Early ABA-blocks had stout bottom ends, slick piston-squirters and they pair-up nicely with the 1.8 16v high-flow heads. I did an identical build, but tossed in a bunch of BBM and Techtonics parts in case I ever wanted to go forced-induction in the future. My only remaining challenge, is continue to fight my modified/convoluted Digifant.II wiring or just throw in a standalone Speeduino ECU and boost...

This is just what I need to give me the juice to resurrect my 16v scirocco. Can you tell me how much that 2.0 and 2y drivetrain combo weighs? How much more than a PL 1.8 and 4K combo?

@@MysteryGarage Thanks! I know it sounds silly but I am really picky about adding weight in the front of the car. Really trying to make this car handle this time around. Its very valuable to find someone in north america putting out relevant mk1 vw content these days.
Great video and engine! Kinda didn't like the way you unbolted the cams / caps but should be okay.
Hahaha Thanks John, Don't worry that was filming/editing that butchered the cam removal... lol, i actually thought the same thing when editing but thought that was so late in the episode nobody would notice/comment. I did remove them by sequentially loosening the cam bearings in sequence to evenly reduce pressure but again the high speed and editing cuts made me look like i just popped them off willy nilly! But seriously good eye my man!! Thanks for watching and especially "Thanks for watching till the end", lol much appreciated!!
@@MysteryGarage Helpful as heck - I'm rebuilding a 9A that will go into my 89 MK2 Jetta Coupe track / race car. And this will be the 2nd motor I've rebuilt so these episodes are helpful and encouraging! Have a 8v ABA frankien motor right now.

Yes I believe so
Mystery Garage yes it is 19mm, the crankshaft turns, but the camshafts are locked!😭 looks like bend valves!!

Ok it's a good engine but I'll prefer the 1.8 20v/2.0 20v over this any day, whether it be turbo or atmospheric

Hey, well thanks for watching!! Quite a few choices really... o2o's are the most common. You can get picky with gearing if you'd like by sourcing out specific ratios but if your just hunting for something there are a ton of choices out there. mk1/mk2/mk3 as long as its non vr, anything 4cyl. (different bell housings) hope that helps! Cheers!!
