    I love how he just knocks his queen over and leaves it lying there on its side like it's a proper move. Next move he stands it up straight on an adjacent square. Lol.

    Hi John. Played at the Mechanics Institute in San Francisco. I used to go there in my younger days. Lots of good memories. I really miss it. John Donaldson used to be the director. Before him it was Max Wilkerson. This goes back quite a few years. Good Game. SINCERELY.

      it's a pin

    • @joshualavender
      @joshualavender 3 года назад

      @@RUclips_Globetrotter No, it's a skewer, i.e. the more valuable piece was under direct attack. The queen was in front and moved to let the rook be taken. A pin would be the reverse: the piece in front *can't* be moved or the more valuable piece *behind* it is taken/checked.

    At 7:12 into this thing Greg captures the pawn on f6 with his rook and then because he is moving so fast, he bobbles the rook and puts it on f7 instead of f6 where the pawn was. Or am I missing a move by John?.

    • @SincoolKira
      @SincoolKira 7 лет назад +1

      if you watch carefully, f6 was a check on john's king so he already moved it (the king) while greg was picking the rock up, so he moved f7 as his next move imideatly.

    their first week in chess club and in this video.

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  8 лет назад

      +sinisa5567 In casual blitz it's pretty darn common. I would not do this in an actual blitz tournament, of course.

    • @sinisa5567
      @sinisa5567 8 лет назад +2

      OK then here is a good tip for you,you can also press the clock button with your other non playing hand,
      like just rest it on the clock and as you make a move click the button. Try it its much easier,
      its casual blitz after all.
      Just be sure to make a video of it so i can show it to my chess friends.

      No, en passant could not be played in that position.
      For en passant to be playable, two opposing pawns must be adjacent on the fifth rank.
      If Black had played the move ...g7-g5, then White could have responded with the en passant capture h5xg6.
