Can you do popular aesthetic names like dark academia, cottagecore and gamer?
Oh yes I love that idea! Xx
Is there one of these yet? Loving all these vids!!
Being a nurse rules some names out. Senna? That's a laxative. Penrose? That's a type of drain used for wounds and surgeries. 😂
Yah 😂 what's the stupidest name you've come across?
@@Cassxowary Dear
my fav is when i see people named melena 😅
ugh I know... Senna is actually a beautiful Arabic name meaning "brightness", from Sana meaning "splendor". But unfortunately it's associated with the laxative from the plant that in english is called senna :'( Wanted to name my future daughter that until I heard of the association, though it wouldn't work anyway, since in spanish, which my extended family speaks, Senna sounds like "cena", meaning dinner 😂 rip
I named my daughter Tigerlily June. It fits her so well. She’s 13 months now and I absolutely love it. My little Tigerlily. Like the flower and like the princess 🥰
I love it!
Reminds me of a celeb who named their kid Heavenly Harani Tiger lily
Such a beautiful name, I am trying to convince my husband to let us pick this 😍
Imagine that on a resume.
@@MsBianca78 😂😂
I taught a 12yo TigerLily last year who went by Tiger. She was a super articulate and confident girl with a fiery personality. I absolutely loved having her in the classroom!
I just came across a student named "Maple" at school today. I really liked it. Has anyone else ever heard it?
Kowhai is actually pronounced "ko" is core "wh" is f and "ai" is eye. Its a Maori name for a tree with yellow flowers. Kowhai is the name for the colour yellow in the Te reo (Maori language) just for info purposes. Love your vids SJ! From NZ.❤
5:37 oh my god I cannot lol 😂 got me crying she said that so causally. "Reminds me of um divorce" hahaha
I’m an early years teacher and in my class this year I have a little girl called Elvis and her parents call her Vi and I can’t help but find it so cute ❤️ She is the sweetest soul which helps too 😂
How cute! I love it for a girl xx
that is really cute haha
Welcome Back To a 'quick fire' name list - thanks everyone who took part on Baby Name Envy instagram! Don't forget there's a NEW PODCAST EPISODE! Whoop! We're back for series 3 - leave us a rating and review on Apple to be in with a chance of winning a private name consultancy with me, Link is in the description xxxxxxx
Pierre-Louis Parenteau
Pearl and Darcy Parenteau
Mildred(Minnie)Opal Parenteau
Dorcas Kindred Cleaver
Dorchester Keats
Bernardo Kenneth Edward Landry
Hunter
Harriet Ruth and Claire Alice Parenteau
Ellery
Warren
Thomas Arthur Perry
Can’t wait for part 2! I love Truly, Lovie and Dove or girls and Holland and Bondi for boys. ❤️
“Prosper” is one of my guilty pleasure names for sure… my favorite character from a book from my childhood! - “The Thief Lord”
Oh yes, memories!
Someone else!
I love that you put Hendrix and Genesis together on the list… they make such a cool first name/middle name pairing!
Yes super nice together xx
Loved this. Waiting for part II!!
Really validated that I named my March 2021 baby boy a "guilty pleasure" name that's on this list - Rumi (yes, after the Persian poet and not Beyonce's daughter). It's SO sweet. Most people love his name. Everyone else asks me to repeat it then take a long pause. hahaha
Sunny has been my guilty pleasure baby name for years ! Pregnant with my third baby girl and we are going for it 😍 what about spelling Sunnie ?
Loved this list! I don’t think my spouse would go for it, but Tigerlily could be another way to use Lily without being too ordinary.
All I think of with Waylon is a random character in Twilight that gets brutally attacked by vampires 😂
There's a country singer named Waylon Jennings
I had the exact same thought!
I think of Waylon Smithers from the Simpsons.
My guilty pleasure names are Gravity, Cloud, and Bloom all for girls
I didn’t realise there were so many! I loved reading them and it’s still there so will do another x
In my friends and family we have a Pyper, Senna and Adeline all under 5 years old. It's nice that the names are getting so much more love.
Ah that's amazing! xx
Hi SJ, Kowhai is pronounced Core-fye (second syllable rhymes with pie). Really beautiful native tree that grows yellow flowers, kowhai is also the word for yellow in Te Reo Māori (the indigenous language of NZ). Thanks for including a name from our country!
Glad someone else noticed this too. I'd just come to the comments to say this but was struggling with how to phonetically type it. I was thinking second syllable sounds like the start of the word fire, and there's emphasis on the 'core/kaw' part because there's a macron on the kōwhai ☺️
I’d love a part two of this!😍
Was playing this in the background and totally perked up when I heard Witt! That’s my last name and I always thought it would make a great first name for a boy or maybe just a nickname for Whitney to keep the name in the family
Wow, what a list ! Many really usuable ones but some definitely not. I like Ursula, Athena & Conrad.
Love seeing Aloysius! It was my grandfather's name and I've always heard my family say it "aloe-wish-iss".
So I plan on using Juniper Leigh for a girl and for a boy Augustus, but I love the name Willoughby! I’d use it for a girl! I’ve never heard that one before used as a name! So pretty!
Rhapsody is one of my guilty pleasure names. We still may use it as a middle name paired with Nova as a first name if we have another girl. 🤞
Waylon Jennings was a very popular country singer here in the US. He was born in 1937 and passed in 2002. A couple of my favorite songs of his are "Lucille" and "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys." He's a legend as far as I'm concerned.
My Dad took us to see Waylon Jennings & Jessi Colter perform many years ago while we were on vacation! It was either in Lake Tahoe or Vegas. (was too young to remember exact location cause we were traveling for 3 weeks)
@@cavlizzy, that is so cool! I really wish I could've been alive to see Conway Twitty and wish I could see Loretta Lynn or Willie Nelson before they die. Honestly, they're the 2 remaining that I actually love! All the rest Nashville is too historically good for!
Oh wow that must be why it's getting popular xx
@@SJ_Strum, I think so for sure. At least in the USA.
@@mandymorrow5473 I'm a native Texan so getting to see the one's that are from here has been pretty easy. Willie Nelson is always great! I found out I saw Waylon at Harrah's Casino in Lake Tahoe! :)
Tigerlily gives me deep baby name envyyyy. Also love Kit, Everdeen, Goldie, Willoughby, Daphne and Wren, Wednesday, Fox, Freddie, Elvis, Keats, Lavender, Hyacinth, Casper, Wilder are all on actual lists ive written for #2. My first is a boy named Ezra. Tell me your faves.
I have a Griffin!
Penn, Yale, and Arrow are some of my favs that I couldn't get hubs on board.
Other guilty pleasure names
Selah (pronounced say-lah), Prudence (Pru), Shepherd (Shep), Callahan
Shepherd is one for me too x
I am finally able to watch these videos again without having baby name regret. Not that I don't love the name we chose (Monty), but there are always so many good ones. Now that our son is 7 weeks I feel settled enough to come back.
I love Monty ♥️
@@beckbeck5110 Thank you! We love it too. We also liked Everett and Reed, but Monty Dean just fit him.
So glad you have the spelling next to you! Loved the quick fire but would have been hard without the names next to you. Loved the edit!
Thanks Betty! The captions took me so long 😂😂😂🤣🥰🥰🥰
I’m from Ireland and I love seeing the Irish names! Fionnuala, Aoife and Caoimhe are so common here it’s funny to think people think they’re too ‘out there’ (but I do understand the pronunciations are not intuitive if you don’t speak Irish!)
My partner vitoed aifric and síofra from my list even though we're both Irish and live in Ireland 😂 some people have ptsd about Irish names I think 🤦🏻♀️
I love Irish names but for the spelling. A woman I knew was named Sinaid [ hopefully spelt right ] & called her children
Anna & Peter.
@@marty9011 I know about 20 people called Sinéad 😂 if you're in Ireland you don't get too much confusion. Her kids are probably Áine and Peadar on the role call in school 😂
I adore the name Aoife but my husband vetoed it because he said he didn’t want to struggle spelling his own child’s name 🙈😂
@@anithabombita She didn't live in Ireland hence the difficulty with her name.
Our 18month old is Memphis-Ray loved the name for so long and our eldest is Austin-George and our Angel girl we called Daenerys ✨
I always comment on your videos when my baby girls name shows up. ☺️ My husband and I named our first child, a girl, Winnifred Darling last year. We call her Winnie. Many people tried to dissuade me but four months into my pregnancy I couldn’t imagine her as anyone else. She was and most definitely is a Winnifred Darling, my darling Winnifred. 💗
Love your videos AND podcast SJ!
I’m obsessed with her name as you know!!! So gorgeous xxx
she’s gonna get bullied
@@johnnyschranz4005 Why? Winnifred Darling is a cute name in my opinion! She is not named something like Dick Long (which is unfortunately a real life name, this person actually existed and I feel sorry for him) or stuff like that.
@@LucyQ-ew6zp sure it’s “cute” maybe for the 1960s
Love Dolly, Freddie, Jude, Ernest:) The last three I'm a little biased because I considered them for myself! - Chris
I was so surprised how many times Juniper came up. I have a four month old daughter named Juniper who is nicknamed Juni for short and everyone who hears her name tell me they love it! I say if you love an "out-there" name go for it. Honestly you won't regret it
So cute!
It’s so gorgeous! Yes it was on there loads x
I don't know if you live in America, but here Juniper or June are surprisingly more common than my daughter's name, Jane! (Which you'd think as a plain name would be more common). She's 8 months.
@@GraceHopeBlessing that's so interesting. Juniper is so uncommon in Australia which is where I'm from. Jane is a gorgeous name ❤️❤️❤️
Juniper is particularly great because it can evolve with her! Juniper then Junie, Then June!(:
I'm ready for part 2. great names! Lupin reminds me of Anime and wolves.
Daphne is my first name! So neat to hear it on a name list.
I can verify Gemma is nearly unheard of in the US. We had it on our list if we had a girl and my parents thought we were just making it up.
Ooh, and I think Lupin is also the name of those beautiful tall flowers a bit like foxgloves.. but I may be wrong xxx Lupin the character is fabulous as name inspo xxx
Great video! Thank you for sharing!
My one is definitely Ashildr, its the name of Maisie Williams character in Doctor Who and I just adore it. I've actually just recently rewatched her episodes.
Soda reminds me of Sodapop Curtis, the character from S.E Hinton’s the Outsiders, which is an amazing book and would not be a bad namesake! 😄
I love Lemon hahah I felt attacked by SJ's reaction
Last week at work there was a customer and she had a toddler named Opal and it was the first time I'd heard it used for a name and it was just perfect for that little girl
Love these names could you do a video with baby names that end with -inn, I love the name Quinn with the sound at the end but I haven’t really heard any others
I have an Elswyth! She’s Elsie on a daily basis but I’ve only ever received compliments for her name. Next baby will be Hermione or Foxleigh
My youngest daughter’s name is Clover Pearl. My older daughters thought her name was quite normal compared to theirs. I have a Westen Liberty and Berlin Shynae.
My guilty pleasures for a girl are Quenby/Quinby, Trilby (like the book, not the hat,) Viveka, Ariadne, and Deirdre. For boys; Whitaker, Stosh, Malcolm, Hollis, and Alaric.
In the US, I've always heard Schuyler pronounce "Skylar," at least in the southeast.
Northeast USA too!
And in Hamilton!!!
Oh yes!!! I read it so differently! x
Sissy Spacek's daughter is Schuyler pronounced Skylar. She was in the original Babysitters Club movie.
This was fun! I really had to focus! Clover is my favorite name, but I am also contemplating if I'm brave enough to use it. Minerva also stood out to me on this list.
I had to focus too!! 😂🥰🥰🥰
I like that one too i didn't even catch Minerva
Oh yay my name was mentioned a couple of times! It always exciting when people mention my name
Loved this different style of video! My guilty pleasure name schuyler was on there haha although I think I prefer the spelling Skylar. Could never use it though, my mum has ridiculed me for liking that name for years haha
I did not get it was skyler! I love it x
@@SJ_Strum haha I only know that from Hamilton
I feel like a lot of these names are very wearable now a days specially, some are even common so I’m confused haha. I have some of these on my list and I encourage anyone to use these if they are on your list!
Hey! Love your videos! Just wanted to let you know that when pronouncing Kowhai the "ai" is said like "eye". I mean you can say it however you would like.. but that's how it's said to be more accurate :))
Ah brill thanks for adding that :-) x
My current guilty pleasure name is maple! But as a Canadian id be afraid it was too much. 🍁
Awe that's so lovely tho. I hope you end up using it even if it's a middle name ❤
All of my favorite LOTR names would be my “guilty pleasures”. LOVE Arwen, Eowyn, Meriadoc & Peregrin. A character only in the Hobbit movie trilogy whose name I would love to use is Tauriel. My only concern is the automatic refference status of the female names. I feel I would be better able to hide the refference in the male names with the help of their nicknames being Merry & Pippin (or Pip). Another literary name I love I Huckleberry with the nickname being Huck. Also love the name Ziggy, but feel like I would be braver using it for a future pet cat instead of my child. 😅
I really like the name Elowyn because it sounds very similar, like it could be a LOTR name, but isn’t.
I have a Théoden which I fell in love with thanks to LOTR
@@kirstynschererable such a great name! I have baby name envy. 😄
Absolutely true! Peregrin is my favorite
I watch this one alllll the time. Would you do another one with everyone’s updated guilty pleasure names? Might bring some levity to your day! Xox big hug, Danica
Yes great idea - was so fun! x
My guilty pleasure is November (for a girl) ✨ could nickname her Noa or Ember. I like that if she’d grow up to not like something so different, Noa is a “safer” name for her to go by😅
Yes that’s such a good idea x
Do it!!💕
@@SJ_Strum Thank you! I am trying to build up the courage to use it (one day, am currently here mainly as one of the writers lurking for character names 😂), and this helps a lot x
You would want to get pregnant around February to have her birth month match her name.
@@SaraSmed As much as I like the idea of you naming your daughter after my birthday month, I personally wouldn't do that, because she could be teased because of it.
My girlfriend and I played it safe when we named our baby girl (who is now in Heaven). Her name is Emily Lucy (her middle name is after me, and Emily after my girlfriend's grandma).
Loved so many of these, a few of mine were in here!
Love this list! I have a separate list for my guilty pleasures on my phone! Love but never would have the guts to use: Magenta, Rogue, Yvaine, Roxy and Berlin for girls. Roscoe, Rufus (both my other half have said no way). Hoxton, Hyde, Koda, Taika and Damiano for boys!
First time I have seen my own name on one of your list! About the name Waylon, it is well known in the Netherlands (where I come from) ♥️ Love from Senna
More than half of the names on my list are on this list lol Tigerlily has always been my guilty pleasure name but Im seriously considering Bambi. My husband…. 🤪
I love your pinky makeup 😍💗
Ah thanks so much Chloe xx
There used to be a little girl called velvet in my sons class at school, I loved it
Lilith is actually one of my very favorite name meanings. Jewish folklore says that she was Adam’s first wife, but she refused to be subservient to him so she left him and coupled with an archangel. Of course, scholars often depicted her as a demon, sexually impure, and even sometimes stealing babies??
The insecurity of man knows no bounds 🤣
I’m living for this comment!!
I love Lillith! But my niece is called Lillian-we call her Lilly and Lillith would be too close and called Lily too. So we have come up with Lilah instead...as she'll be nicknamed Nyxy!
I’d love for you to do a “cottagecore” name list!
My 10 year old daughters middle name is Amberle. It’s becoming more popular since the Shannara books (where we loved the name), became a tv series.
I love how the first two are Ursula and the Eartha (my name now (sometimes) is Herta (meaning the same thing) and my older daughter in a past life is Ursula (she's still alive and well) :p
I love the name Peach! And Raven, Persephone, Cecilia.
Can you get some more Arabic names up in here? Haha
I heard Leila, which is Arab, but it's a super common one for Arabs.
Some names I love in Arabic are Lujain (meaning silver), Sanabel (meaning wheat), and Ghazala (meaning deer)..I will never use these myself but they're gorgeous names!
I'm American and I've met a few Gemma's. Not too out there at all. My guilty pleasure name is Cassiopeia, but I think I'm more likely to go with Cassandra. Cassandra Scout.
Stiles is a character on teen wolf!
Would love to see you do a video on Hawaiian names/ cultural names.
Yes I love Hawaiian names x
My guilty pleasure name is Cyanite with the nickname Cyan for a girl. There’s a character in a book with that name and I love it. I wouldn’t be brave enough to name a baby after a mineral though 😅
Our black lab is Tallulah and it’s actually so easy to say all day and everyone loves it. We agreed on it so easily we are like we should have saved it for a human. So many nicknames. Tula, Lula, Tully, Lulie
Ahhh Stiles! Have literally had that name on my list since I was ten because of Teen Wolf. Harry Styles has just added to it lol
Such cool names! I love Prairie but hubby would never let me 😆 I also love the name Wednesday but tbh Addams family would never let the poor child get a break 🥲
Love Beckett, Arrow, Samson and Haven! My top names were Oakley and Henley for girl and Orlando and Harley for boy. We ended up calling our daughter Avaley and our son Myles 🥰
I’ve got a sweet little Beckett! I was considering naming him Myles but my husband wasn’t into that name!
Its crazy how different a lot of those names are from the names my friends and I like here in Canada.
Would you please do a list of baby names for Cinema lovers?
I remember literature names and Netflix names lists. Maybe Golden Age of Hollywood? Or simply by Cinema classics?
Kowhai is pronounced almost like core-fi(think wi-fi). It's beautiful it almost means yellow in Te Reo Maori like the yellow flowers on the kowhai tree
Just had a little boy and named him forest and we love it 😁
I love Eartha, Kindred, and Prairie! I feel like theres definitely a theme here haha
You’ve mentioned Solveig a few times now, and that is DEFINITELY a guilty pleasure name for me. It sounds lovely, "Solvie" is such a cute nickname, but on paper it makes me think of a heavy duty cleaning agent 😭
Another guilty pleasure for me is Jane. So simple and sweet, but the idea of the "plain Jane" has outlasted the name's popularity. Plus it's the name of a family member we don't get on with. So definitely never gonna be a baby Jane in my family unfortunately!
I think my top fav but prob won't be using is Ocean.
I really love & would probably use : Ursula, Esme, Gwilym, Willoughby, Persephone, Winifred, Fox, Hyacinth, Antigone, Bronwyn, Ambrose, Theodosia, Jeanne, Alfred, Erasmus, Andromeda, Aramis, Ebenezer,
* I believe Aloysius is pronounced: Aloe -ish- es. and Schuyler is pronounced Sky-Ler.
Some gems in there!
Love that someone said jean, Liam ghallager has a son called gene I think it’s spelt? And I’ve always thought it’s so cool
Yeah, it's spelled Gene
Not sure about Lemon but I've always liked 'LIMONE' -pronounced Li-moan-ee, for a girl. I think Pelagia' s daughter in 'Captain Correli's Mandolin 'was called Limone? Another favourite is 'FINELLA'-she's my friends daughter so would be tricky to copy it.
I know a TIGER ,a teen boy.
I can’t believe how many of these were on our list. I wouldn’t call them guilty pleasures either 😂 we were 100% serious! We had a Clementine Florence in the end! She’s one in the morning 🥺
Made me laugh how you said Atticus Valentine together as that would have been her full name if she was a boy 😂
Also my “guilty pleasure” is Rudolph but I’m serious about that too, if I had twin boys they would be Atticus Valentine and Rudolph Nathaniel 🥺🥰
I really love the name Elvira with Elvie as a nickname. It means “trustworthy” and I just love the way it sounds, the gothic history and how unusual it is, but is I’m afraid it will always have the “mistress of the dark” connotation, even though that movie was before my time.
Even though I am german, I would never thought of „Ess mich“ or eat me in english when hearing the name Esmee. So I think you can definetly use it 🧡
Ah thanks for adding that!! X
Also, wouldn't it be pronounced as Es-may? That's the way we say it in the Netherlands. I imagine in Germany the same pronunciation is used?
@@marjoleinfokkens6338 I would say it‘s pronounced like SJ said it at 3:07 but with a stronger german e sound at the end, than the i sound she used. But it is hard to describe, because for me it sounds like it is spelled 😅 So I don‘t think it‘s pronounced the same in the netherlands and in germany.
My name (but I pronounce it differently) as well as my sister's name were on this list. My sister's name is Gemma, we live in the US (we have lived in Northern, Southern, and Northwest America), and no one seems to have a problem with it.
I have been in LOVE with the name Matilda since I was 19 and met my husband around the same time. I want to name a girl Matilda Lake (lake is my husbands name) but every time I share it with others they laugh at Matilda. I know what I want is more important than what others think but I don’t want her to get laughed at and get the “like the movie” response every time she introduces herself. It’s still my number one name even though we haven’t been successful with conception yet.
I love it! Reminds me of Gordon Ramsay daughter who goes by Tilly for short x
I love Matilda! Such a gorgeous name. I also really like Tilda, might be a good alternative?
Alaska, Esmae and Cecil are such adorable names😍
0:57 By the way I think it is pronounced like Core Five but without the ve.
😊😊
Hope you have a wonderful day! ✨
I forgot about commenting mine until last night, boo! Mine are magnolia, Clementine, and safari.
As a New Zealander, I just want to let you know that Kowhai is not pronounced "Ko-fee" 😂. It's Kaw-Fi. It's Māori, a native tree and is also the Māori name for yellow ❤
Looked for this comment lol
So good to promote the correct pronunciation ❤️ If I may add, it is more like kaw-fie, rhymes with tie (which you very well may have meant, I just want to make it obvious to the non-kiwis) 😊
@@hannahwright6995 Totally my meaning hahaha but, sure the E adds to it, makes it obvious
Ah - she had it pronounced out so I followed that but should have looked it up! X
Was looking for this comment haha
Also quick fire are my favorite
I love so many of these names! Just wanted to point out though that Kowhai is pronounced "core-fye". It's a Maori word so the 'wh' adopts a 'f' sound (in the majority of dialects anyway). It translates to yellow (the tree is named after its beautiful yellow flowers!) :)
mine would probably be Lennon. love that name, hard to say though where i come from and i am not in love with have the same initials as my kids
I'm so surprised the names I love made the list! Memphis and Phoenix! I'm expecting my first next month, so hard to choose his name! My last name is Wolf so I feel it makes it a bit tricker. 💙🤰⛄
