The last time I watched Castaway, maybe a year ago, that scene didn’t make me cry so much as FULL-ON-HEAVING-BARKING-SOB.
I swear it gets more brutal every time.
(Not until I typed those words just now did it hit me - uhhh the movie didn’t change…so I guess that means *I* did… 🤔)

I worked at Paramount Studios when Bosom Buddies was being shot. On my lunch hours I liked watching the rehearsals of the sitcoms. I had a lot of shows to choose from, but ultimately I always chose watching Bosom Buddies because of the great cast. Tom gave me a nickname one day, Eddie Rabbit, after the country music star. Peter Scolari was just as talented as Hanks and their rapport with each other was genuine.

May I ask, what was Hanks referring to when he called Stage 25 "cursed" (I forget if that's the actual word he used). Are you aware of stories there?

Bosom buddies was a good show check it out
Big was one of my favorite movies. Watching it as a kid, and wishing I could be an adult. Now as an adult, wishing I could be that kid again.
OMG….I so relate to that statement. Tom Hanks is my entire adult life….I love him. Not in a creepy stalker way, but he’s like my favorite uncle. The one guy that tells you dirty jokes, and also gives you a hug when you’ve been hurt. 😃
Anyone here after the *CATCHY TV* marathon? I was born in 86 so I just discovered this show. Shame it only got 2 seasons. It was very touching seeing Tom get choked up remembering his Friend and fellow *BOSOM BUDDY.*

I loved Bosom Buddies when I was a kid, and I loved Peter Scolari on Newhart, too. Watching Tom Hanks well up at the end made me lose it. Cancer truly does suck.
the emperor of all maladies pierced my heart. too many fine people have been lost to the willful dis-ease of cancer.
it didn’t use to be this way - I swear. When I was a kid, my parents friends didn’t all start dropping from Cancer the minute they hit fifty
F*ck cancer. Seriously.
It took my superhero & just truly epic human being Neil Peart recently as well. It still hurts.
F*ck cancer....
That is an excellent book and a superb PBS Ken Burns documentary on the history of cancer.
I'm one not who's quick to emotion, but when he referred to cancer as that I reached for a tissue.

When Tom choked up at the end I choked up too. Damn man, hitting me with the real feelings out of nowhere.

“That Thing You Do” as his intro song was greatest thing to me
I thought Hanks paid a great tribute to Peter Scolari. I loved how he became choked up at the end.
I was lucky enough see a live taping of "Bosom Buddies" at Paramount Studios on Gower St. in Hollywood with a scene with Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari & Holland Taylor with my friends Boy Scout field trip. I must have been 8 or 9 years old. And as young as I was, I knew there was something special about Hanks. RIP Peter
Tom Hanks is a national treasure! He's always interesting, kind, funny, and entertaining. I would love to have him as a friend or neighbor.
I got to go to a taping of the Newhart show AFTER the one at the Inn. Newhart played a cartoonist. My buddy was a cast member. Peter Scolari came to see it and walked with us after the show, telling stories about working with Tom on Bosom Buddies on the backlot of Paramount.
I'm jealous.

I just adore Tom Hanks! Also his wife Rita Wilson, they’re an awesome couple.
And, more importantly, Peace be with his family. Peter is at peace. Having had many of my family pass, it's his family that needs it at this point.
If he is such a good actor, how do we know that he is being sincere?.. maybe he is just just acting in Kimmel’s studio?
Tom Hanks is the best storyteller. Thats what makes him stand out from all other actors, and puts him in a league of his own.
Awwww watching Hanx tear up and his voice break at the end over Peter Scolari made me cry. 🥺

His description of space journey was very correct. He should have added that he has 'been' to space, too, according to Apollo.
He almost seemed manic - something was a bit off, but perhaps it was due to the loss of his friend. Trying too hard to stay upbeat??
He's a professional storyteller and there are some skills he's really good at. He was very professional the whole time, not natural. If you know those skills you will immediately notice and will not get charmed but if you don't know, you might be in awe.
Just for an example, he does full energy intro story lines so as to drown Jimmy, who was trying to cut him the first second. He succeeds, based on how the camera remains fixated on him which usually does not happen as they would like to get the show host in the camera but not in this case. You can rewind and see for how many seconds he gets the camera time and Jimmy remains off the camera.
I agree, following his lead really does feel like space must!
