The Descenders of Teyvat: The Unchanging Historians of Genshin Impact [3.2 SPOILERS]

  • SPOILER ALERT! At the end of the Archon Quest, Chapter III, Act V: “Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises,” Nahida spills the tea and leaks us some intel. We learn a lot of lore, including information about Descenders, or beings not from or of this world. There are four, and the first (she assumes) is the Heavenly Principles, and Traveller is the fourth. The second and third are unknown.
    Here I postulate that the Heavenly Principles are the Second Throne, not the Primordial One or Phanes, and why that's important to the Fatui's goals. I speculate on who the other two might be, including the outlander who fell in love with a seelie, Imunlaukr, Alice, Hexenzirkel and Rhinedottir??, and the author of Vera’s Melancholy. I still can’t answer why the Abyss Sibling isn’t a Descender. But I have a feeling about why the Fatui are taking note of Descenders, and why it’s important to the false sky and the truth hidden by Irminsul. Spoiler: Celestia wants to erase history and the Descenders are the few who can be like “nah," and the "false sky" is a code term / double entendre to avoid the attention of the gods.
    I also somehow managed to avoid alien jokes, and I think this is my first video in ages that doesn’t mention Pierro (don’t worry, he still makes an appearance). So, so much Genshin Lore and Speculation.

    My theory is that the Abyss sibling is a puppet kind of like Dunyarzad was in later repeats of the Sabzeruz samsara. And the real other sibling got their own copy of Teyvat and are experiencing pretty much the same story as the sibling we chose at the start of the game.

      While i thought the whole teyvet is in some kind of samsara and the abyss sibling is from the previous samsara cycle, maybe that's why they were cold to traveller when they met again bcz traveller wasn't the "actual" sibling of theirs

    Someone once mentioned that the Descenders is a parallel version of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse, the messegers of the end of everything.
    For example;
    The Heavenly Principles and their Sustainer represents is the 1th Horseman, with a crown that represent conquest.
    Next is the Current Celestia, they overthrow the Primordial One and took the throne. Their current managent over of the world of Teyvat represent war, conflic and strife.
    Third is Alice. If she is aware of the Teyvat's border, it means that her race is from another world too.
    And there's the Fourth, the Traveller, on which represent the final hour and Death. On which is what the Fatui wants, the ashes of the Old World. On which the number four also represent bad omen and death as well.
    When it was mentioned that there's obfuscating the Abyss Sibling's fate and getting all fuzzy. My mind went to Dainsleif, the Boughkeeper, and maybe he caught about this, what a better way to cover her/their tracks by using his power to see and block the world's memory.

      oh neat! I've personally been avoiding most Descender theories up until now so it's cool to finally allow myself to see other theories. I certainly wouldn't be surprised by a connection like this, especially since I did a fairly surficial review of candidates, and there are still a LOT of questions I have that I didn't even begin to address. there's a conspiracy floating around that the fictional story books in universe in genshin are actually memories from different time lines that were erased.
    so for example during the earlier mondstadt quests the abyss order attempts to steal one of klee's books believing it to hold secret ancient powers, could this be a reference to a forgotten time?
    it's believed to be the case because for some unknown reason the reference to rukka is still there in the Viridescent Venerer artifact set, it's also still archived in the fruit of fulfillment description, potentially an oversight?

    • @roozeveltfox
      @roozeveltfox  Год назад +7

      yeah! I TOTALLY forgot to mention that perhaps metaphors and fables are a way of subverting the memory wipes, but I think some other lore CCs have mentioned this. Surely The Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies has to mean something given the abyss order's interest.
      As for missed references, I've seen people point out some things which at this point may just be oversight, OR could be relevant. E.g. apparently Ararycan will still reference Rukkha in a line. I imagine, though, these will be patched out soon enough if they're mistakes, and then we can really go ham with those crumbs...

    Even if Alice remembers Scara, it could just be due to the fact she was off world when the memories were erased, I still think the same as I used to, that Zhongli is hiding something, his dialogue shown at the end of the video points to the fact he knows things can be erased and changed, and even with his latest "correction" in his dialogue he still only mentions himself and Venti as the original 2 archons despite supposedly Nahida being now placed in everyone's mind as being the Dendro Archon that was in the war until now.

    I believe the history of Tevat has been recorded as fictional books because someone figured out they don’t get rewritten every time there’s a soft reset.
    I also have a theory that Vera’s Melancholy is the outline of the Genshin Impact story. You simply need to place the correct character names into the text
    I also believe the Descenders are based off a poem called Paradise Lost. In that poem the fourth “fallen” was the one who wiped out fate and gave everyone free will
    If I recall correctly their names were, in order of descending, Lucifer, Adam, Eve and Jesus

    • @seni_oo

      thats wild cuz in genshin these names are turned on their heads and with paimon being our loyal companion its implied that the traveller would be 'lucifer'. but we are the last descender/jesus. i wonder who adam and eve could be in this theory, lumine and aether would have been the most likely candidates but we would be the fourth descender/jesus

      @@seni_oo I have no idea. I just instantly thought of Paradise Lost when they mentioned the four descenders because it’s weirdly similar to the four fallen from the poem. It wouldn’t surprise me if the four shades are the descenders/fallen
      Unfortunately I don’t have enough info to say who is exactly who but the MC would represent Jesus. And they would need to be sacrificed to cleanse Tevat. Much like the theme we’ve been seeing play out.
      But if the MC is Jesus then the sibling is Lucifer. Which makes perfect sense because they joined the abyss.

    Alice was literally my VERY FIRST option that came to mind when Nahida mentined the Descenders! Reading other ppl's comments and opinions, I think she is such a good, mysterious character that makes her a good candidate, or just someone from Teyvat who happened to find out about dimension traveling - which per se.... is already sus AF and raises so many questions since we found out about her, like how she is able to travel through worlds w/o provoking massive war worlds in Teyvat with the Heavenly Principles? Then there's the fact that the HP isnt active ever since the cataclysm, so is the Sustainer and/or the entire HP organization even alive still???? Ahhhh so many questions! I really like the others in the list as well.
    Someone below mentioned how weird Monsdtadt's entire history is in the first place, and how Immulaukr is suspicious, and then.... we also have Venti, who pretty much hides a lot underneath his "te-he", drunkard bard demeanor. Zhongli knows SOMETHING about the Abyss Sib but he's bound to contract, Raiden was a jock focused on war and fights back then (she's my fave, but... yeah.), and Nahida's info can be false not bc she's lying, but bc of altered History and memories like you said - also, Fatui intel is still "intel from and discovered by humans" anyway, so it's still susceptible to lies or honest mistakes. IMO, Venti is the one who knows THE MOST. 2 years into the game, we still havent got the Venti Quest 2 and I think its bc it's gonna be another lore bomb to come.

    Maybe one of the descenders is close to the Cryo archon... Maybe one of the Fatui even.
    The abyssal twin is already part of Tyevat history probably because she (i play Aether) woke up first and ventured throughout the world and took part on a major event (the cataclysm) and then Celestia did something altering her nature or simply bounding her to that world so she would now, as everyone else, be bound to those so called "heavenly principles" and finally recording everything , like a backup, on Irminsul.

  • @huismands
    @huismands Год назад +10

    Wasn't there a theory that the whole of Teyvat is a simulation made by a computer shot into space by characters from Honkai or something? That one still holds the most ground for me.
    There are so many references to the world being digital, from Zhongli's mention of a "backup" to Nahida's charged attack animation being a selection tool, to ghosts appearing like holograms, etc. Irminsul being the harddrive (memory) of the world. Which could also explain how an outside force (basically a virus) could "hack" reality and create.. oh I don't know, a false sky for example.

    • @huismands
      @huismands Год назад +2

      Ley lines would be the circuitry of course. Also with Genshin's developers obviously being fans of NieR, it could be that they "borrowed" the idea of Sleeping Beauty from that game (a giant Tree that's secretly a computer).

      @@northstar67So matrix style virtual realities are very real in both honkai star rail and honkai import 3rd. The later the main plot spends a good few chapters in, and eventually an AI herrscher tries to escape that realm.
      It's very similar to how the dream worked in act 2 of sumeru, so while I don't think we'll get a direct a connection from GI to HI3 explicitly stated as HSR to HI3 has, it's
      *very* food for thought.
      And yeah in hi3 one of the solutions a group came up with for the alien invasion of the honkai was to just have some people leave Earth so some of humanity would survive. That option is Project Ark, which the ship for that did leave but they lost contact with it. With Teyvat meaning ark, it's had people suspicious since day one.

    FINALLY someone else who points out that alice is very likely a descender

  • @obseed3041
    @obseed3041 Год назад +6

    Alice can't be a descender. When Nahida talked about the descenders, she said "I still need to verify their EXISTENCE" when referring to the 2nd and 3rd.
    It's most likely that she already has the names of the descenders the fatui has recorded. She already knows that the first and fourth actually exist so what's left to do is look for the other two.
    If Alice is one of those two, then wouldn't Nahida already say that? She knows Alice exists.
    The only way that I could think of that would disprove my theory is if Alice was known by a different name when the fatui recorded her as a descender. Nahida states that she "hypothesizes" that the first descender is who WE know as the heavenly principles.
    TL;DR:
    My hypothesis is:
    Nahida's dialogue implies that she already knows who the descenders are, she just needs to know if they still exist in Teyvat. Alice can't be a descender because Nahida knows she exists already.
    The null hypothesis is:
    Nahida theorizes that the first descender is the heavenly principles. this implies that she knows the names of the descenders when they first descended but not the current names they use in the peresent. Alice could go by a different name when she first descended.

    • @roozeveltfox
      @roozeveltfox  Год назад +1

      The only thing about that: does Nahida actually know about Alice? (Did I miss a line about that?) I might usually extrapolate that based on the fact the other archons (so far) know her, and she's just generally widely known, buuuut Nahida has also been very sheltered. At the same time other people have also pointed out that she MAY be from this world in the first place and just travelled a lot (and that may be alluded to by other elvish people like Pulcinella and now Layla). I can go either way on this, given the dearth of info. 😅 I'm personally interested in seeing if Vera's Melancholy has any bigger implications!!!

    • @obseed3041
      @obseed3041 Год назад +1

      @@roozeveltfox Yeah lmao, I don't think Nahida knows her personally but even with her sheltered upbringing, it's hard to believe she hasn't heard of Alice. Not to mention, Alice is the author of many guides right?
      Also Nahida has interacted with Alice's technology before. I think Nahida would most likely look for information about the person who could make such things too.
      Alice's existence is widely known which makes me think that Nahida couldn't miss her if she was recorded as a descender. Unless, as I said, Alice went by a different name long ago. That could explain why Nahida is still having trouble confirming the information about the 2nd and 3rd descenders.
