Here, another step in your journey, and you have already noticed the diversity of the musical directions approached by the band. The fact that each of their songs sounds different, but at the same time is so distinctly Nightwish, is a testimony to the talent of the composer Tuomas Holopainen, considered by many to be one of the great composers of our time.
Many surprises await you, ladies, and I'm glad to see them through the sparkle in your eyes.

When i was at Wacken 2013 i was totally shocked, stunned, mezmorized and transfixed not only by Floors voice, but the tightness of the band, the crowd interaction, the lighting and sound. Remember this is a live concert and sound was better than on alot of cds.
I thought Live Aid with Queen was amazing but Nightwish outdo Queen by miles. This whole concert was euphoric, orgasmic theres not enough words to say how exceptional Nightwish are.

To show Tuomas' talent is that Gen Gap Ladies need to react his solo song called Adventure of a Lifetime. Tuomas is a fan of Disney especially Scrooge McDuck. He wrote this song. Tuomas became friends with the artist who is second person to continue to draw Scrooge McDuck after original, Carl Banks artist died. Second Artist's name is Don Rosa. Adventure of a lifetime is a song by Coldplay.
Anyway, the song A LIFETIME OF ADVENTURE (official video) from his 2014 solo project/album 'Music Inspired by THE LIFE and TIMES of SCROOGE, the graphic novel by the illustrator/ storyteller Don Rosa, is one of Tuomas' best songs, compositions. It was recorded with an orchestra in London. Beautiful vocals by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. She is a perfect choise to sing this song. I love heavy Nightwish songs, but this one is such a beautiful song.

Floor is an empath, and feeds off the reactions of the crowd...and you have seen the crowd! This was a mutual appreciation concert, Nightwish and the audience. The back and forth was a feeding frenzy for emotions. Oh, Floor is Dutch i.e. Windmilling, which makes sense, huh. Background from wiki:
Composer and lyricist of the song, Tuomas Holopainen has said that "Storytime" is inspired by the 1982 movie The Snowman, the theme of which was previously covered by Nightwish for their Oceanborn album. The idea for the music of "Storytime" was born when Holopainen wondered why no-one had made a remake of the film, and pondered on what his version of the score to the scene in which "Walking in the Air" plays would sound like.
In a teaser text released prior to the release, Holopainen summarized the song:
"How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity."
The lyrics references several classical pieces of fiction concerning imagination, including the character of Peter Pan and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The lyrics also mention the mythical Gaia, the Greek primordial Earth goddess.

You nailed it with the more ‘pop’ vibe with this one vs the classical style of GLS. This song was written for their second singer Who brought a more pop element to the vocals vs Tarja who was far more classical/opera.
She still has more in her toolkit you’ll see as you both continue to go down the rabbit hole…
    Love it!

    • @don-o-seven1437

This was more pop because it was written for Annette, their second singer. When they moved on after Tarja to Annett they specifically tried to try to be more mainstream. Albums were great, but Annette just did not have the stage presence and did not handle the older style as well. Important to understand that this Wacken set list was Annette’s second album tour and technically Floor is just covering
their songs. Their last two albums were written for and recorded by Floor. You will get to those songs in the last and discover yet another side of them (a touch more Celtic in places).

she got the call at her sister's wedding asking if she wanted to fill in because their current singer quit during the tour.
she knew Nightwish but due to her burn-out Floor had not heard ANYTHING about the new album yet.
she then took a plane from the Netherlands to America in 48 hours AND also learned 15 songs with the lyrics well enough to be able to sing them.

Floor was in a band called After Forever, which she joined as a teenager. They played symphonic metal, similar to Nightwish, and shared a lot of the same fans as Nightwish. They even toured Europe opening for Nightwish. So, the band knew her, and the fans knew her, as well, so she was a natural choice. You’ll find that every song you react to becomes your new favorite, and no two of them are alike. Tuomas, the keyboardist, writes most of the music and lyrics, and Marco…the bass player…you’ll find is also a great singer. Two things, the previous song that you listened to was Phantom of the Opera with the first singer, Tarja, who was operatic and Ghost Love Score was also written for her. This song was written for the second singer, Anette, who was more poppy. And Floor gives it more of an edge plus she sings the operatic middle section which Anette couldn't and relied on a recording. As you progress through more of the performances with Floor you will get to appreciate the versatility of her vocals and story telling. By the way I'm 70 years old and discovered them 3 years ago with Ghost Love Score and Floor. She is the best I've ever heard. My dear ladies, I’m 63 now and just found out about NW Januari 2020. Last week I went to their gigs in Amsterdam (2x), and Düsseldorf, you can say I’m a crazy fan by now! Like your mother, I had all the “metal” prejudices you can think of. Now I consider myself a metal head, I even got to like the heavier stuff, as long as it’s melodic I’m fine with it. Please enjoy your Nightwish journey, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with all the great music that’s awaiting you.

WINDMILLING. Floor said that in her early days she was getting pain from headbanging and realised she could have problems, so she consulted a physiotherapist. They worked out that the way to headbang with least damage was with the windmill BUT you should brace your hands on your thighs and use your shoulders to help you. Before trying the windmill check how Floor does it. Romanticide next followed by Song of Myself please.

Mum / Mom, do not be deterred by your age! The army is full of mature people who have discovered that metal is not exclusively what they thought! The last Nightwish concert I went to had such a range of ages with everything from a child of 12 (technically too young to attend!!) all the way through to some in the 70s and they were just ages I noticed and had interacted with! Another reactor said that Jukka looks like he is riding a Harley which is so true 🤣 You ladies have been discovering so much music and it pleases me greatly that Nightwish can potentially draw you into metal as well. In some ways metal and rock are the last bastion of "real" music and "real" singers as current pop has shifted the emphasis away from any actual ability to sing to simply having a memorable hook.

GLS is always the beginning, because new reactors don't have any idea about Symphonic Metal. And the song has a lot of elements of this genre. The diversity of NW is huge. Every song is different. So yes. You still have no idea how deep this rabbit hole is going to be. Next one should be "Ever Dream" or "Romanticide" - both Wacken. And if you like to discover the 2nd unbelievable Symphonic Metal Band next to Nightwish - please react to Epica. Best one to start is "Unchain Utopia" Omega Alive. Trust me. 😊

From my friend AL :Nightwish is undeniably cool on multiple fromlevels. This Finnish symphonic metal band has earned its coolness factor through a combination of exceptional musical talent, a unique fusion of genres, and captivating live performances.
First and foremost, Nightwish's music is a blend of symphonic, operatic, and power metal, creating a sound that's both epic and enchanting. The band's melodies are marked by powerful orchestration, operatic vocals, and metal guitar riffs, resulting in a distinct and dynamic sound that appeals to a wide range of music lovers.
The band's founding members, Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen, are renowned for their songwriting skills. Tuomas' compositions often draw from mythology, fantasy, and literature, adding depth and storytelling to their music. This combination of musical prowess and lyrical depth is undeniably cool for fans who appreciate intricate and emotive music.
Nightwish's live performances take their coolness to the next level. Their shows are known for their grandeur and theatricality. A Nightwish concert is not just a musical performance; it's an immersive experience that combines stunning visuals, elaborate stage setups, and charismatic frontwomen like Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon, and Floor Jansen, who all brought their unique presence to the stage.
Furthermore, Nightwish's international success has made them a prominent figure in the symphonic metal scene, helping to popularize the genre worldwide. Their influence on subsequent generations of metal and rock bands only adds to their coolness.
In summary, Nightwish's combination of musical virtuosity, lyrical depth, theatrical live performances, and their role in popularizing symphonic metal make them an undeniably cool band in the eyes of many fans and a significant presence in the global music scene.

    It was the night before
    When all through the world
    No words, no dreams
    Then one day
    A writer by a fire
    Imagined all of Gaia
    Took a journey into a child-man's heart...
    A painter on the shore
    Imagined all the world
Within a snowflake on his palm
    Unframed by poetry
    A canvas of awe
Planet Earth falling back into the stars
I am the voice of Never, Never Land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan
A silent kite against the blue, blue sky
    Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real
Every memory that you hold dear
    I am the journey
    I am the destination
    I am the home
    The tale that reads you
A way to taste the night
    The elusive high
    Follow the madness
    Alice you know once did
    Imaginarium, a dream emporium!
    Caress the tales
And they will dream you real
    A storyteller's game
    Lips that intoxicate
    The core of all life
Is a limitless chest of tales...
I am the voice of Never, Never Land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan
A silent kite against the blue, blue sky
    Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real
Every memory that you hold dear
I am the voice of Never, Never Land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
    Searching heavens for another earth...
Neverland, innocence, dreams of every man. A-ah-a!
Neverland, innocence, every man, Peter Pan

But... when I showed her Nightwish and other bands a few years ago... she fell in love right away... people think metal is not music but when you listen to it and appreciate the artists... it's something wonderful.... my mum fell in love with Nightwish and Floor right away, in December I took her to her first Nightwish concert as a gift, and she was delighted and happy. Metal music brings people together and gives them joy, you must not delete this music after stereotypes, as everyone usually does. Thanks for your reaction and welcome to the world of metal and Nightwish, cheers :)

Every song at this Wacken show was written for one of the first 2 lead singers, Floor added to the originals and made them her own. She had only been with them about 10 months here, having taken over mid tour. Ghost Love Score was written for Tarja. This was written for 2nd lead singer ,Anette Olzon, who is more of a pop/rock style. Anette didn't do operatic vocals, that part was done with a choir originally, the London Metro Voices choir.. Floor can do it, so she took over those parts herself.
Correct, Tuomas on keys is the primary songwriter. He likes themes of stories and childhood innocence, and he is a fan of composer Hans Zimmer and Disney.

Nightwish found Floor because they already knew each other since 2002.
Floor is a trained musical musician and yet she remains the humble, friendly and authentic character on stage. She enjoys every concert again and again. In doing so, she approaches each song again and again as a new challenge like a professional actress should. She takes it as a challenge to tell each song as a unique story and does it like a musical artist.
I like to advertise you to watch her performances at Fort Lauderdale 2012 singing “Slow, Love, Slow” when she was less than 2weeks with Nightwish.
At the age of 16 Floor started her career in the Netherlands (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart.
Tuomas knew Floor since August 20th, 2002 when Nightwish played in a sold-out and swelteringly hot “Hof Ter Lo” in Antwerp (Belgium) with her band “After Forever” as support act.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini.
From October 1, 2012 (while she was still within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Tuomas gave her a call and asked her to come over to the USA IOT replace Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour.
Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label.

You-kah! We all love him and miss his on stage flamboyance and attitude. He is still helping Nightwish in a management position. He was forced to step away due to a severe case of insomnia and migraines.
We do love you mom. I am almost your age and I know what you are going thru trying to find the right adjectives and words to describe this amazing band.
Wait until you see Floor in her 2015 performances. Since 2013 she has been adding ink to her arms very much like yours. Tuomas (keyboards) writes most of the music and lyrics for Nightwish. He likes to use children's choirs in some of their songs. He is also very poetic in his lyrical style.

    Love your reactions :)
To your thoughts how did they get Floor:
Actually they didn´t search very long when Floor joined the band because it was in the middle of an US tour where they´re second singer got sick and they needed a back up singer and Floor stepped right in. At that time they already knew each other from somewhere in the music biz. Floor had her own bands before Nightwish so she wasn´t new to the people in the scene.
There is a documentary about her entering Nightwish that´s called "48 hours to learn the setlist" I think. In this documentary or perhaps in an interview sometime later Toumas (the Keyboarder who also writes and composes almost all their songs) speaks about his thoughts when they needed a back up and if my memory works correct he said something like he thought only Floor could do it so they called her... while she was in the middle of her sisters wedding. Anyways Floor stayed and the second singer Annette Olzon did go or was kicked out. Not 100% sure how exacty they handled that.
At that Wacken Festival (big Metal Festival in Germany at a place where usually cows are grazing, that´s the reason for the big bulls head at the stage) she was with the band for less then a year and still "only back up". I think at the end of the show they announced her as her new front singer, but again not sure about that.
All the best from Germany :)
That´s all I have to say about that. (love Forrest Gump too ^^)

I just love love love your reactions, and I eagerly look forward to your next ones
You had me really worried! On your last reaction you said that you would be reacting to this on Thursday. When that day came and went I was worried that somebody had said something bad in the comments and put you off doing any more reactions. I looked and looked but couldn't see anything 🤣
I am so happy that you have found another favourite 🙂 I wonder how many mainstream pop singers could sing this song to the same standard as Floor?
Mom, you may find the next song 'Romanticide' challenging because it is real metal (Baby will love it!), but the song after that 'Ever Dream' is much less so and shows you just how powerful Floor's vocals are, so please bear with us!
'Romnticide' is about a romance which has broken down. When you react to it, listen out for 'The Banshee Wail' of Marko and Floor towards the end of the song. You will recognise it when you see/hear it! 😁

What a nice reaction. And mom don't worry about this, you're doing just fine. There are many pre judices about metal heads, but in reality we appreciate everyone who enjoys this type of music, no matter what color, age or gender. The army welcomes everyone. You will see literally see everyone in the crowd if you ever decide to go to a concert, young, old and every color & gender of the rainbow. All there to enjoy this amazing band. You can feel the energy through the video, but seeing them live, the energy is electrifying. I am wired for days after a concert. 🤘🏽

Oh, you have to do Romanticide next. You will get to hear Marco (bass player) sing and harmonize with Floor. Love your reactions, ladies. No two songs of theirs will sound the same. Wait till you two check out Floor solo and with her previous bands. She will continue to blow you away.

Being Symphonic Metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the longer, grand, epic style songs, but they also have several of the more traditional Metal style songs as well... and like this one, just about everything in between. They even have songs with a bit of Celtic Rock kind of vibe. But no matter what basic style of song they are going for, their songs will all have those signature symphonic elements that give the music that distinct full, rich sound.

This music is considered Symponic Metal. Almost all their songs are completly written and composed by the Metal Mozart Tuomas (the one on the Keyboard) Floor can sing in almost every style you can imagine from legit Opera to screams and growls. This would probably be closest to a pop sound. Ghost Love score was definitely a Classical set up.

I like that Drummer as much as you:). He was the reason, to playing drums as well, many years ago. I think it was in the year 2000. He's still such an idol for me.
