For anyone wondering, no Piers didn't invest in the end and the company's net assets at November 2021 was 234k, so no they're not doing brilliantly since it was on the show 8 years ago
Thanks for info, problem is Google and Amazon do similar products but without the energy saving, which only you accumulates to about 17 pence a day. Which doesn't exactly fill people with excitement

I love the dragons and I respect them a lot, however sometimes they are acting like egoistic kids. Why should an entrepreneur take the loss of a dragon if another dragon has interrupted the dragon that's already talking? I don't understand your rationale sometimes guys, just be less impulsive. This has happened a few times on a show, where an entrepreneur is taking the loss because the dragons fight between themselves for banal things.
Think it’s done for entertainment and keep things juicy ha .I can understand Deborah getting ruffled with Pearce interrupting but then to abandon her interest because of that is just puerile and empty headed i thought she was a environmentalist !!!
Piers is really one of the most underrated dragons. He has no issues walking into investments with complicated share structures and finding a solution that will allow him to invest while all the other dragons run.
@@MrDrumm268 The inventor backed out because the other investors didn't agree with the terms, Piers wanted to complete it. He did something similar with the company Lost My Name (now wonderbly) and that deal went through and made him a large amount of money.
50,000 for 30% is ridiculous, why did he agree to such robbery? 15-20% is the most he should have gone for. Deborah basically left because she was offended. Ludicrous. Peter verbally assaulted the guy for not showing every single detail in his opening pitch, when all he could do was asked about it in the questions, like he did but with less hostility. Duncan seems to me always the clued up one with no arrogance.
It's a good idea to have an occupancy sensor shut everything off but to retrofit a room like that is a lot of devices and money and you'd have to do it for every single room in your house so at the end of the day it just doesn't make sense
According to google, S11E5 was 2013 and so this was shot some time before that and considering Phillips Hue (a lighting only solution) launched late 2012 sparking the smart home revolution; then with the right backing and funding this could have been huge and frankly given that motion sensor based smart home stuff is still limited it’s a shame his share holding was such a mess - he did need the kind of money that Peter was talking about and there just wasn’t enough share holding there for it.
A movement sensor that needs to be programmed to every appliance/switch in the room.....just get used to turning things off when you are not using them. I don't need an egg and an app to run my life.
Stuff like this exists for offices etc. But is usually quite expensive. But it Does work, if you limit the use on lights and stuff that can handle being turned off on a whim. With led lights and smart lights this has become nearly redundant. Or combine it with the detector etc.
I can see how it would know that you entered a room, maybe motion sensors or whatever but how would it know that you are still in the room or that you have left? Is there ;like a tripwire type thing at a doorway or something? What if someone else comes in or leaves the roolm? I have no idea how this is supposed to actually work?
yeah I have no idea how they neglected the most important part which has so many potential pitfalls. I can only assume that the solution was mundane and they it cut out from the episode (these pitches normally last an hour or something, we get a very condensed version of them).
It's a motion sensor connected to a timer (say 5 minutes). If a motion is detected a 5 minute timer is activated. If no motion is detected within the next 5 minutes, the power switches off, if a motion is detected the timer is reset and starts counting down 5 minutes again. This way the unit assumes the room is empty. The unit could still switch off if you were to sit still on the sofa watching a movie or falling asleep without moving. All depending on the sensitivity of the movement sensor, the height at which the sensor is placed and the lens that is used in front of the sensor.
@@sebd6651 I don't want to have to sit and wave at a sensor every once in awhile to make sure my tv doesn't shut off. This thing just sounds like a pain.
@@MarvelX42 Yeah, LED and energy saving appliances reduce the amount of electricity used much more for little hassle. Sometimes, they are even better than the previous items.
I experimented with a motion sensor to keep on a light in one room - it was just annoying and didn't work. It's fine in areas where you typically just move through, but anywhere where people sit down and are fairly non-moving, you'd have to occasionally wave to keep stuff on.
@@Joesharpp 2:15 he says you walk into a room the appliances will switch on. You walk out the appliances will switch off. Just thought it would be funny if your pet could set this off.
The kinds of devices he's talking about don't use a significant amount of electricity. A 9W energy saving lightbulb left on all day costs 7p at current prices - it would have been much cheaper when this went out. And if you have the heating on, that energy just reduces the amount of heating you need. These kind of energy saving things are pointless. You need to focus on insulation and energy efficient heating - that's where the potential savings are.

Lot of problems with this concept. You wouldn't want your tv to shut off when you're in the middle of streaming something, or your console to shut off if you haven't saved (if you even can save). You wouldn't want lights coming on in the middle of the day needlessly, and switching plugs from manual to automatic and back twice per day is too much hassle. Larger rooms tend to have multiple lights, and you hardly ever need all of them on at once. Are you going to be constantly fiddling with plugs to account for situational uses, or just operate them manually like a sensible person?
