  • I first heard Tom Englund's voice in Silent Skies and instantly knew I needed to delve more into his catalogue on this channel. This performance is flush with dark overtones and burly rhythms, with this ray of optimism that's constantly trying to break through. I was truly so taken back by this performance.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Evergrey for the first time, performing "Save Us”.

Simply… Thank you, Elizabeth for taking the time and sharing your musical insight into Evergrey and specifically Tom Englund. Jonas, Rikard, Henrik and Johan are all extraordinary musicians that amplify his vocals in each of there own ways. Rikard with those keys and electronics in the pauses, stitching the raw elements together. Johan does his part in laying down the best progressive groves for all the power and energy to dwell. Henrik co-leads with the voices of the guitars to match the harmonies/melodies with the octaves and can quickly go back and forth from the raw to the soaring heights of Tom’s vocals and Rikard’s prophetically timed keys (much like Vikram in Silent Skies). And then Jonas… the musical talent he has in his soul is beyond words. He conducts from the drum kit and powers out the directions for all the band members to take place in a very intentional way. And like you pointed out… Tom creates these amazing lyrics that lead, but also invite Us to be a part of in a full and vulnerable way. He really accepts all of Us as who we are in this space and encourages Us to be part of the bigger story. Again… thank you for highlighting Evergrey and Tom. All of them have been creating amazing albums for decades now and they deserve to be recognized so much more for what they bring to all of Us. This episode of your channel meant a lot to me personally. I’m sincerely grateful, Elizabeth.

Evergrey is one of my favorite bands, i will recomend you guys to see the dvd concert "A night to remember" from them, saddly it's a little old dvd and image quality is kinda bad, but its totally a night to remember.
In 2019 i was at Wacken open air super hyped to watch them live for first time, but their concert got suspended due to thunderstorm.
I was lucky the same year they came to Chile, production was less than half of WOA and the place was so tiny that the sound bounced a lot on the walls, but it was still great.

Everything Tom has done in his career is outstanding.

I discovered Evergrey about the same time. I think it was the video to "A Touch of Blessing" that was my first exposure to them. They haven't really released a bad album, and they've done a great job of remastering some of the old ones. They are in, I suppose you'd call, a "golden era" at the moment. They've pretty much hit it out of the park with every release since Hymns. Criminally underrated considering just how good their music is.

I'm so glad you got around to Evergrey. Easily one of my favorite bands, and one that doesn't get as much love as it should. Evergrey, and especially Tom, are incredibly evocative and emotional in their music, and I hope that you take some time to explore them. I only have one song to be aware of, and maybe to avoid entirely, because it's from the perspective of a man who loses his daughter in (presumably) an accident. As an expecting mother yourself, it could hit pretty close to home. The song is called "The Dark I Walk You Through," from the album Monday Morning Apocalypse.
Again, thanks for checking them out. 🧡
