Hello, I'm a 57 yr old Rad 5 ebiker. I had adjusted my speed from 20 to 25 mpr using the display functions. I absolutely love the bike. I use it on abd off road. Thx for all the videos.
I have the 2018 Radrover and am looking forward to this for more power uphill! Currently have to time the stop lights to try and outpace the cars going uphill to Devils Slide on Hwy 1. And I have to pedal like my life depends on it! This upgrade Kit could possibly save my life! Thank you for providing this kit for all of us that need it!
I have a Rad Rover and I couldn't be happier with the display and the controller the loss of the tail light was worth all the gains. I also upgraded my battery. Thank you Kyle!
I have the upgrade (without tail light function) installed on my RadRover 5 that I bought in Feb 2020. It works fine and is 100% compatible. Obviously I have lost the taillight which for me is acceptable. The controller adds a significant amount of power to the bike 👍
Just installed mine on my radrunner and it feels like a different bike (in the best ways possible). I weigh around 260lbs and hills were my biggest complaint; not any more. This thing hauls! Almost popped a wheel the first time out.
Ya thanks for saving me 7 minutes of babbling I was looking for the information about up grades before I go nuts on my gotrax here in Canada only allowed 500 watt power I'm gonna see about that LOL
just got a pair of 2020 RadRover5 in and ive been loving every min of it.. thanks so much for making these upgrades for the Rads.. i know once i get to know the bike alittle more through working on it.. ill want to upgrade the controller and hopefully the motor if i can get some help .. keep up the great work !!
Hi Kyle, it's great that you continue to work on these upgrades for Rad Power Bikes owners. It is awesome for everyone to have the ability to buy replacement parts elsewhere if they so choose. Really excited for the potential of a 1500 watt motor for the RadWagon/RadCity. With the extra wattage being pushed to the motor if a user so chooses, do you have any idea of what to expect longevity wise from the stock motors? Is this a concern?
Great information on the upgrades. I have a Rad Runner and for me an older retired military overweight guy it works great. However more umpf for getting around doesn't hurt. I like tinkering with things, (sometimes too much) I don't mind doing upgrades. I enjoy your honesty and clarity in all your videos. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
My New 2019 Rad Rover just arrived and is ready to go! Thanks for the great video! I always like your honesty and reviews on your site, not many online ebike reviewers go in as much depth as yours- I will for sure be looking at the kit - thanks for the demo of the controller-
I have already ordered the red rover upgrade 35 amp. But I can always use another one for my other bike for my wife. Looking forward to the increase power
Robert Klement , Great video! I have a 2017 radrover I’d love to get a new controller for fast take off and faster uphills. Does the kit come with the actual tail light or do I need to get one. Thanks! Geoff from Tennessee
I have a 2020 Rad Rover 5 and just love it for all the riding I enjoy. Living just west of the Sierra Valley I have a few hills where the Controller upgrade would be useful. After enjoying your videos and podcasts I'm planning on visiting your shop in Gas’s Valley soon. I've really learned a lot from you in just my first month with my Rad Rover 5.
I made my Rad purchase June 2019 before learning about Bolton. At first the bike was nice as it was my first e-bike. After a month I got a little bored and started looking for upgrades. I have a pre-order for this kit hoping that it will wake it up a little. Ultimately, this bike will be what I will use when I ride with my friends on the easy trails. But to keep me from getting bored, I am going to buy the bike that I really wanted later this spring when the better bikes come back in stock. I really like the videos. My local bike shop is biased to only the name brand bikes they sell. I still spend money there and support them, but they havent figured out how to be part of the bigger market yet.
The last podcast was awesome, I hope more to come as good as they have all beeb so far> I plan to visit Houshmand's shop in Denver in May As I will be visiting there at that time. I have planned as you may recall to visit your shop as well but it has not panned out as of yet but you probably know we all support you and what you are doing for all of us greatly. I do indeed own a 2019 Radrover and would love the upgrade but this praise was not to accomplish that in any manner. Good Luck with everything you do and we will continue watching and really enjoy your newest staff addition also. She's a doll.
I just ordered a Rad Rover step thru and deffently will be to your shop to get the upgraded controller and color screen. Great video series and information. Keep it up! Ride Rad!
I have a Rad City (2019). I love what this upgrade can do and the nifty display. Thanks for another informative video. BTW, you sound great on the podcast!
I have a radwagon I got to commute to work, and I'm loving it everywhere but the hills. Glad to see there's some upgrades available. Going to your website to see if the larger motor ever became a thing too.
I installed the upgraded controller/screen on my old 2016 RadRover this weekend, And also the hydraulic calipers. 100% plug and play! Way more low end power. I seen 1400 watts on the screen on the stock 48v battery. I have a 52v 20ah triangle battery on the way, As well as a true 750watt motor. Can't wait!
Thank you for your clear videos on ebike. I own a Rad Rhino 2017 750 w . My son has a brand new 2019 Rad Rhino 250 w and my girlfriend rides a Rad Wagon 750 w.
I got a Radrunner for my wife and Radmini for my Dad. They love their bikes but I am sure a controller upgrade would benefit Dad. Great videos. Thanks for the tech detail.
I have a 2019 Rover with the no-tail light upgrade works great! Just got my new Rover Stepthru and ordered this one. Rad told me there are NO changes to the electronics between the 2019 to 2020. I'll report back once I get the new one installed. Hey Mr Bolton ship mine first! ;-)
Thank you for the informative video. Proud owner of a 2016 Rad Rover with about 600 mountain miles on it. Was waiting for components to die before I upgrade. Noticed its getting a little less power up major inclines while my wife flies by me on her newer model. I might have to upgrade this summer and not wait. Excited about finding this video and knowing these kinds of upgrades exist. Cheer!
I pre-ordered the controller/screen and I have a 2020 Radrover 5, I'll take the chance, from everything I've seen I'm 90% sure they're the same controller
My 2019 Rad city struggles on the monster hill (aka mountain next to the mouth of the canyon) at the end of my commute. This would be an awesome upgrade. Can't wait to get one. Thanks!
I just took my Rad Rover 6 Plus out for 2 hours today. I live in an area with mostly hills, some steep. During a ride through a local golf course I came upon a medium in length, steep incline. I had it on easy pedaling (level 2-3) with pedal assist adjusted to 5, and nothing. I had to stop and walk the bike up the rest of the incline. I am not a strong rider - so this could just be me. This bike is a beast in weight. I decided to leave the course and go up other steep hills in my neighborhood. When I was in pedal assist 2-3, I still had throttle, but once I went to assist 5, I had nothing. I tried all different things with easy pedaling + assist 2, 3, 4....but once the hill became more steep, there was no assist on 5, OR no throttle with lower levels assist - nothing. I live over a very steep long hill, so now I am wondering if I just shouldn't have converted my mtn. bike to an e-bike since the RAD seems to be a dog.
Took me nearly a month to get my Civi Cheetah, should be hear at the end of the week. Next up is a pelican case full of tool batteries I can hang from the pannier rack and figuring out how to wire them and the stock battery into a selector switch (I've been told that wiring batteries of different voltages can cause problems).
Received this controller upgrade today. Works 100% on 2020 RadRover 5 with no issues whatsoever. Massive torque increase with stock motor for hills. I am so happy with this purchase. It's exactly what this bike needed. Might need to upgrade the battery at some point though. This extra power is kind of addictive.
@@georgehemsworth2919 Definitely more power. Much quicker, too. Top speed more or less the same (28-30 all day long), but I got it for the torque because I ride where there are lots of hills. Be prepared for a reduced range if you're on it a lot.
Fantastic news!! I own a 2019 RadRhino and was thinking about building my own more powerful bike for commuting and leisure. It's a wee bit hilly here in the North East of England so this sounds perfect, you've just made my day - Thank you
I am so glad I found your page!! This is great, I have a 2018 rad rover and would love to do this upgrade. Loads of hills to ride on and having the increased power would be awesome. Getting this bike has made a huge difference in my life, I have arthritis and am on oxygen. So being able to get out more is so wonderful. I'm heading to your website now!! 👍😁
Had my 2019 Rad Rover since August 2019 have over 1100 miles on it. You are right on stock controller being weak. Nice to see you may have remedied this. Now, can we get someone to build 20+ amp hour batteries for this bike.
I’ve always wanted red rover just never had the money for one I have back problems now so I’ve been looking into it more but they’re pretty cool and seem like they’re really popular love to have one but love your shows thanks for all the info
In addition to the brakes lights your tail light DOES have a flash AND a solid mode on the 2019 Rover, access is at the base of the light where you'll find a little rubber button. Maybe after I get my biz opened back up and the dollars flow again, I'll get this upgrade!
Looking at buying RadWagon 4 with incentive check (if we finally get another one), and am definitely interested in the power controller upgrade. Thanks for taking the time to explain things so anyone can understand about e-Bikes.
Great info. I ordered one of these controllers a few minutes ago for my 2019 Rad City. Currently, performance climbing hills is nowhere close to what I need. I expect this upgrade will put an end to 'get off and walk it up' solution.
Great video Kyle, I’ve got a 2019 Rad Rover and I love it. I’ve used it for commuting, I’ve used it for motorpacing with my wife piloting it, and my son has used it to go to college. Over 1000 miles now with zero problems. I’ve been thinking about the controller and display upgrade just haven’t pulled the trigger maybe you can help me out.
I have the 2020 rad rover step through. I am hoping the new controller works on it. I also have the 2019 rad City step through. I will be interested in the 1500 watt hub motor for it.
Very cool and informative video! I have a 2020 Rad5 and I was looking at performance upgrades. Looks like you have the best products out there and would love to test out the new control module soon!
I bought two 2019 Rad Rovers last year for my Dad and I. He is 75 and I'm 50, love the bikes. Would like some upgrades, and looking for extra battery for both to get longer range. Also looking for storage ideas. I appreciate any help. Great videos, Dad and I enjoy them.
Pretty cool. I was happy to see it is for the 2019 Radrover. My wife gave me one as a Christmas gift. Only about 18 miles on it as of today.....Ohio. Gonna have flurries tomorrow but 56° the next lol. Looking forward to riding with her.
I've been looking at this upgrade. Nice to see a video on it. I'm hoping that shipping delays from the factory will be cleared up soon. And if you happend to want to send one my way I will definately make you a video of it riding around the dunes of Holland.
Dang, I got me a radrunner 2019. Thinking about getting the throttle to work all the way to 25km/h, now it just works to 6km/h because of laws in my country.
Great video explaining some questions regarding the Rad upgrade. I am the happy owner of a 2018 RadCity, but would love to have more power going uphill. Keep up the good work!
I live in Del Mar, CA I own 4 different Rad power Bikes. Both Mini Folds/A Wagon and a City Step thru. Thanks for taking the time to explain the upgrades available. I would like to soop up my Mini standard fold! (I need something to keep up with my new Sondors Bikes..Orig Fatty and an XS) You gotta love our toys today! Thanks Keep up the great videos! StevO
Im doing something a bit different to somewhat upgrade. Im making a different bike battery using A123 LiFePo batteries. Im mostly doing so for quicker (bulk) charging when on the road. Of course it also allows more discharge amps as well, but i prefer a bit higher voltage.
Nice Video. I have a 2019 Radrover and a 2016 radwagon with all wheel drive. Put me on the list for the 1500W rear motor when you find out more about them. I plan to use the upgrade on the Radrover.
Would be an awesome upgrade for my Radrunner! Having a display vs the "bare bones" controls is nice, but the extra oomf to get up hills would be clutch in an single geared model like this (especially when the kiddo is riding on the passenger seat in the back).
Thanks for your informative videos. I really enjoy your youtube channel. I have a Radmini 2019 and would love to get my hands on the upgrade controller.

I know what you mean, I live in Western Pennsylvania. Very hilly. Ordered the upgrade,

Thanks for the offer! Come visit Grass Valley, CA!

Thanks for doing this video , I was one of those not fully understanding this upgrade. Now I do !

I have twoRadCity Step Through 2019. Thanks for creating upgrades. I’ll be up in Grass VALLEY 5/28-30.

2020
RadRover 5
The upgrade sounds nice since I live up a 3 mile mountain and I must peddle hard to make it up at full power presently.
I have a 2018 Rover.
I love your channel, thanks for the info. I will be purchasing from you from now on.
RadMini 4 on its way. First ebike so I’m super stoked. Will definitely upgrade to this controller when I save up some more cash
Would love to upgrade my 2019 Rad Rover - lots of hills in my area. Thanks
I've got a 2019 RadRover. This would be very useful (and fun) when exploring the local foothills.
Im doing something a bit different to somewhat upgrade. Im making a different bike battery using A123 LiFePo batteries. Im mostly doing so for quicker (bulk) charging when on the road. Of course it also allows more discharge amps as well, but i prefer a bit higher voltage.
Interesting! You sound like you like tinkering with things.
Nice Video. I have a 2019 Radrover and a 2016 radwagon with all wheel drive. Put me on the list for the 1500W rear motor when you find out more about them. I plan to use the upgrade on the Radrover.
Going to be tearing up the streets in Glasgow (Scotland) when I get my Radrunner next week! And this is on my shopping list next.
We have a RadCity 2019. It is working well but the uphill speed is a bit low compared to my DIY ebikes.
Had my Rover for a couple months and definitely a little sluggish going up steep hills, wouldn't mind a little more power
I have a 2020 5 Rad Rover I would definitely let you experiment on with the controller upgrade...love your posts ..I am local in bay area ,pinole ca.
Would be an awesome upgrade for my Radrunner! Having a display vs the "bare bones" controls is nice, but the extra oomf to get up hills would be clutch in an single geared model like this (especially when the kiddo is riding on the passenger seat in the back).
I'd love to try this upgrade on the 2020 step thru I just ordered for my wife.
We are testing the 2020 Rads soon.
Love your videos,2018 Radrover here in NY,would love to upgrade to your non taillight controller as I have rear lighting...keep up the great videos!
How high can I turn up the C5 setting for max controller output? Is 10 safe? Everything else is stock on my Rad Rover.
Thanks for your informative videos. I really enjoy your youtube channel. I have a Radmini 2019 and would love to get my hands on the upgrade controller.
