Just look at how beautiful that car is. Forget about the tough parts of the project. They will dissipate with a little time! And you'll be left with one of the best 308's in the world.
LOU - SUPERB VIDEO !! Nicely done and very entertaining. Your video guy deserves a prize as well ! Best of luck. I'm looking forward to following this project from Italia
Lou! Really wonderful seeing you back at it. Hey, you’ve had so many outside stresses in your life you gotta be easier on yourself. I get it. Anyway, as they say here in America Git’er Done! 😁
I must admit this is first of all your videos that I wasn't sure I wanted to watch 😳. Hang in there man it's going to be an awesome car when finished 👍
Feeling your pain...you just summed up the trades in general.... the guys who CAN are retiring, the ones who haven't retired but STILL CAN are way too busy, and the ones who are supposed to replace them CAN'T!!
Thank you for this video, It's much easier now for me to jump under the car again and replace the generator now, after spending hours trying to repair it while it was still installed.
Lou....I think we all fear this job. Even the pros! Wonder what % broke at the factory!!! Just glad it went in ok. A second break would have been too much to handle.
Went through this hell about a year ago and the short answer is you need to get hold of OEM glass, seals and mouldings to stand any chance of achieving a factory fit condition. Use glass branded St Gobain or Pilkington, all the other stuff you can forget. Front screen top and bottom mouldings are unobtainable, and if the originals were yanked off and bent taking them off as mine were, all that's available now are a different section. Many people give up and fit rubber seals on the front screen which can never look right. Persevere to source OEM and try to use someone whose done it before. It's a 2 man job - one guy on his own will struggle to fit the glass and mouldings correctly before the sealer starts to cure.
The Ferrari used a tradtional butyl rubber sealant that remains flexible - ie. it doesn't cure like urethane sealant that's used on 'today's' vehicles - so 'curing time' is not an issue during installation.
Wow! Talk about the worst case scenario actually happening. But looking at it in a positive light, the car now has a new story of restoration adventure. It's nothing that cannot be overcome. Painful, yes, on many levels, but a fixable issue. And when the glass is all done, it'll be time to move on to the next part of the project. Whenever I wash my Mondial, I make sure to be very gentle when working anywhere near the rear glass, just being super paranoid. Probably also unobtainium. Looking forward to your next installment!
As an ex windscreen technician the glass on Ferrari are not that bad to do. The 1st 2 guys didn't look very professional. Just be happy it's not a Porsche 911 back glass you were doing 😱 Stay positive the car is looking superb and you will reap the rewards of all your hard work Lou.
I have a GT4 which fortunately you can leave the glass in when respraying (odd fitment) but had a similar nightmare here in the Uk with another classic. Big company agreed, then wouldn't fit the original screen so new one bought, then broke the dashboard and centre console fitting the new one which...leaked. Glad you can move on!
I feel you on the glass. I have serious trust issues when it comes to hanging things to other people, and my Spidey senses are usually right. I am following notjustcampers' Mercedes Gullwing replica build and they ended up cutting the rubber around the window and gluing it in. I believe it's their last episode.
Deep exhale and sigh of relief, like an addict after a fix. Sorry about the chimps breaking your rear window man, I hope they paid for the replacement at least...
Well...on the bright side, the video is EPIC❤ You can't stage something like that and my heart sunk when the glass exploded. I'm busting to know what the replacement glass went for...my guess 1,500.00 ish?
I'm with you, just thinking about replacing glass on something I love gives me stomach problems. I really need to replace the glass on my NSX, it's massively pitted from years of use, but man... just don't trust anyone to do it right and I know I can't.
@@LouTrottier Rad! It's a great car, though it kind of lacks the personality that the 308 has. But mechanically it's a Honda and that is a good thing. And it still looks amazing!
Oh damn. I feel your pain, Lou. It’s so hard to find people you can trust and let loose on your wheeled baby these days. There is a deep sense of betrayal when people promise the world and deliver nothing but pain. Hang in there mate
At least it is done. Don't want to be a glass half empty... No. Not the metaphor to use here. Keep on keeping on Lou. Someday soon, all of this will be in the rearview mirror looking through an unbroken rear window.
OMG 😳! When Beavis and Butthead exploded the rear window, I pooped my pants! Glad to see it’s finally in, too bad you had to hunt down this mysterious and moody guy, but it’s always the geniuses that are weird and eccentric ones🤔 I’m curious, I own a 76 GTB, is the situation a little more tricky with a GTS, because of the body flex? Love your channel 🍻
Hey Lou - It seems like with your level of experience, you could have put the glass in yourself by just watching a RUclips video on "How to install rear glass for a Ferrari 308." Cheers!:)
I have installed glass on 1960 and 1970s Alfa Romeos - and the job is always 'painful' because there are long periods where I don't do such work. To become relaxed with such work you need to do it every other day.
Hey I broke my windshield when I went to take the trim off from around it. But in my defense, the guy I hired to come remove it after it was broken, broke it some more after he told me it probably wouldn't have come out in one piece anyway. Then I found a shop to reinstall both that a little independent shop used to use for doing all the local vintage cars. And.....they used the wrong sealer around the windshield after I specifically told them what to use. But it didn't leak and they didn't break the new $1,000 glass so I considered it a win. Oh and I'm going on two years now I've had my GranTurismo apart to redo the F1 pump and motor. I got frustrated and then something keeps coming up like taking cares of my elderly dad who fell a couple weeks ago and broke himself up. So, one of these days we'll both be done!!
@@LouTrottier At the rate I'm going you'll probably beat me. At least you are moving in the right direction. Keep at it and it'll be done before ya know it. You are getting so close.
Only on a car that beautiful would I spend that must time and frustration. Hang in there, Lou! You’ll get it done one day.
Some day. Thanks.

Yikes you’re way calmer given cost than I’d be - job part done now and this car will be pristine. Loving the journey.

Ludicrous cracks, then the glass broke... ; ) Hang in there mate. Glad you got it sorted.
Getting there slowly.

I didn’t want to make the video. lol.
Lou, I'm a glass guy, and I was nervous for you the entire time. Referrals such specialized installs can be a pain, glad it turned out well.
It was a costly mistake. Buts it’s over and done with now.

you nailed it exactly Bill.
Love you too! :)
Realy wish you the best in all the ways possible and to come to enjoy the Ferrari on the road as intended as soon as possible :)
That's the plan! Thank you.
Auugghhh Lou…I can’t unsee that crack…
its burned into my memory too.
The stress was unbelievable I felt it also just watching . The glass is in. the journey is one step closer to the finish
One tiny tiny step closer yes.
That was hard to watch but loving the progress of this build, a true inspiration!
keep the faith
Thank you for watching.

If you spray the rubber with soapy water before fitment it allows the the string and the rubber to move more freely.
