- At Broadway Backwards 2018, Telly Leung (Aladdin) and Taylor Trensch (Dear Evan Hansen) transformed Side Show's anthem “Who Will Love Me As I Am?” from a song between sisters to a lovers’ duet. The couple wondered who will love them despite their flaws and insecurities, ultimately finding that love in each other.
"Who Will Love Me as I Am?" by Bill Russell and Henry Krieger
Orchestrated by Conor Keelan
Conducted by Laura Bergquist
Fundraising records and gender norms alike were smashed by stars of stage, screen and pop music on April 2, 2018, at the inclusive, dynamic and loving Broadway Backwards.
The 13th annual edition of the show, which celebrated the LGBTQ community through gender-reversed renditions of beloved showtunes, raised an incredible $680,273 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The show was produced by Broadway Cares.
The evening included performances by Tituss Burgess, Len Cariou, Bryan Terrell Clark, Noah Galvin, Gaelen Gilliland, John Glover, Julie Halston, Shawna Hamic, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Telly Leung, Andrea Martin, Andrea McArdle, Michael McElroy, Joey McIntyre, Hayley Mills, Alex Newell, Eric Petersen, Ethan Slater, Q. Smith, Will Swenson, Nico Tortorella, Taylor Trensch, Anneliese van der Pol, Astrid Van Wieren, Sharon Wheatley, Christian Dante White, Betsy Wolfe and Tony Yazbeck.
Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley wrote and directed this year’s show. Adam Roberts was associate director. The show featured choreography by Bartley, Roberts, Mimi Quillin and Chaz Wolcott. Mary-Mitchell Campbell served as music supervisor; Laura Bergquist was music director and Christopher D. Littlefield was associate music director. The creative team included lighting designer Jake DeGroot, costume designers Jess Gersz and Vanessa Leuck and sound designer Matt Berman. The production stage manager was Jeff Brancato.

Creators: it's unrealistic to have so many gay couples in a community
My entire school:
This is the most accurate comment I've ever seen.
These two are proof that Broadway will never die.
I so hope you're right
You can really hear Taylor's voice is developed since Dear Evan Hansen oo;
That was cute... Honestly, I loved Leung's small rifts during the long harmonized notes. It added just that little bit of variation that I, personally, absolutely adore in songs with extended harmonies. Just a simple two-note harmony for such a long time often makes me want to yawn, so when singers do that, it makes me very happy.
I came as soon as I heard
sarina noelle All the way from London ??
Damn
Angelicaaaa
Surayyah Muhammad omg 😂😂
WHAAAAAAAT
I really often heard versions where the harmonies in the end weren't on point. But these two NAILED it! Wonderful version! Bravo
I've never heard this song before but I've just listened to this 6 times, I love it.
I done the same while sobbing. Xx
Check out the whole musical, the song is from Side Show.
Same as me
To see it done by Jeremy Jordan and Cheyenne Jackson, and learn the history of the song, just type in their names and ‘music’ and you will be blown away!
Oh my gosh this is the cutest thing I've witnessed all week
How I wish I could watch something like this live..
Telly sounds like a Disney prince.
Samantha White lmao he’s kinda aladdin but no biggie

I don't know but my mouth can not stop smile wide.
My eyes are leaking with the thrill of this song.
First, huge thanks to these two brilliant singers, and all other artists that helped in making this performance possible. This is just so pure and real my heart couldn't stop fluttering 💕💕

Me the whole video: wow. Look at Telly’s jaw line. Wow.
Lovely job!
AND, to every young person who hears or sings this song, no matter what you’re told, what you may NOT be told, with the best of intentions, you ARE NOT BENDING THE LAWS OF NATURE, you’re perfect exactly as you are! I adore this song, but I wonder if you boys know this was originally about a set of conjoined twin girls? MCC theater tapped Cheyenne Jackson and Jeremy Jordan (not gay) to perform this because their voices are brilliant! As are yours😎 Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner have been the faces behind this song. Anyway, I just know you both have great satisfaction and success in your futures, and have faith🌹
This is really beautiful😊
OMG !! thatwas gorgeous !!

OK.......the very fist time I heard this you could say was also a #broadwaybackwards it was in the movie/documentary that Rosie ODonnell (i know spelling is bad) made "Our Family Cruise" It was Jose Llana (and someone else....but I couldn't keep my eyes off Jose). After that, my karaoke kick kicked in and I had to find a cd of it.

Am I the only one who sees the warbler here? Wes? Oh my god!
taylor had to just go ⬆️⬆️⬆️ at the end
I literally thought it was Noah and Taylor based on just a quick glance at the thumbnail omg
My mind is slowly drifting to Taylor and Ben Levi Ross's Only Us 😂
*clicks instantly*
I need to stop screeching my family’s asleep
everything about me is crying
holy shit
Yay! Sideshow gets some representation. I hope they do Waitress soon
This is great! You you all should check out the version by Cheyenne Jackson & Jeremy Jordan.
I’m a simple girl, i see taylor trensch’s name and i click 😂
Aren’t they supposed to be conjoined twin brothers?
WES!!!????
ive never clicked so fast
You will hear from my lawyer.
Can Telly love me? My husband wont' mind a bit
i did this song once with my sister but i can assure you it was a very different thing
Alice Ripley & Emily Skinner.....the only two who should sing this
Note to Taylor .... always wear a belt it finishes off the look
Pitchy
This will never match Jeremy Jordan and Cheyenne Jackson.
I respectfully disagree. I felt way more from Taylor and Telly than Jeremy and Cheyenne.
I agree. Taylor - especially - was mailing it in.
This song has been done time and time again.....but ewww....nice try guys....very poor performers...facial expression?????.....and weak voices.... Maybe it will be better when you mature as performers.
Tihg Ger “very poor performers”, you call these broadway stars. leung i believe started in aladdin on broadway, and trensch stars in dear evan hansen on broadway. i’m sure they wouldn’t be cast as leads if they were poor performers. and i’m sure thousands of people wouldn’t be paying hundreds to thousands of dollars to see them preform.
capture the meow This dude's a troll, I've seen them commenting rude stuff on other theater videos as well. Some people just can't let nice things be nice things...
