When I listen to Aphex Twin I hear patterns, structures, melodies that are structured and organized . They are complex, but not random.

I think the absolute best way to create interesting, unique, evolving drums is to do everything shown in this video but use resampling to record every parameter change and effect, then chop up and arrange the resulting audio. That way you never get the same sounds twice and your track is full of organic variation

when you high pass all the sounds in the drum rack, you can right click a parameter in a grouped instrument, and 'copy value to siblings' and it'll copy that parameter to all the other instruments in the same group. really useful for working with drum racks

I can hear the rdj inspiration here but to be fair I also think you got your own sound coming out of it. In my experience I notice that things really start sounding like aphex when you begin to incorporate the micro tunings. I like how you used randomization methods to capture ideas but I still like to imagine that he’s sitting there dialing in every little detail. Nice video.

True to Aphex, its quite difficult to find a consistent groove in the final arrangement. Just as you smile and start to nod your head. Some absolute chaos slaps you in the face, and forces your brain to suddenly switch, and start seeking a different groove within the mayhem. I love it. Very Richard.
Its not got that instantly recognisable sonic magic that Aphexs material has got. But I suppose that's the kind of magic that nobody has managed to replicate successfully. As if its gaurded by the techno gods, because its Aphexs unique sonic signature tag.
But in terms of complexity and multi layered macros and LFOs, its right up there. Very diverse. Full respect for your comprehensive teachings.
As a suggestion, you could do a tutorial explaining how to re-create his glitch beats, utilising 16th, 32nd and 64th notes. Many of his tunes are peppered with that technique. I've seen people trying to do it using an appregator, not very well though.
I can recreate them by manual programming, its rather time consuming and meticulous, so I always wondered if Richard found a way to create glitch beats using a combo of automation, with a way to manually fine tune, and re-sequence where appropriate.
I'm talking specifically about the drum programming found in "Come to Daddy" and "Collapse T69", but also there are so many more examples. I know for sure those beats are not randomly generated, they are pain stakingly placed perfectly. But the up and down scale from 16th to 64th notes and back, are what give them such a unique rhythm within the rhythm style. It takes like literally forever to manually programme all that. There must be a secret arcane technique.
Just wondered if anyone has sussed it out yet. Its probably not that difficult. Its just my knowledge base of electronic music production hadn't transcended the secrets yet.
Any here, got any pointers or suggestions

    • @DigitalBard1
      @DigitalBard1 11 месяцев назад

P.S Square pusher "Come on my selector" is also another classic example of the sort of drum programming, I'm referring to.

I came across your channel about 3 months ago and I want to say that you have relatively high-quality and at the same time atmospheric content with all your inserts and transitions. You definitely have a good idea of what you're showing and listening to. Unlike modern pseudo-musical RUclipsrs, you do not engage in unnecessary ostentation and it is always interesting for me to look at some extraordinary musical techniques, despite the fact that I myself have imitated them many times for fun.
I wish you to continue in the same spirit and wish you creative success.

I have ableton live lite so I cannot really do all of this. What I have done instead is compress a lot of these sort of crazy sampling and random techniques into one track. It ended up sounding alright. Migth buy the full suite version but it is a huge investment for me. Thanks for these ideas though! Lots of cool stuff in ableton that i do not know how to do yet.
I also have a problem w my computer being a bit old, so it will process the audio badly at times. Getting a new one is also a huge investment. I could use advice on what a computer needs to process audio really well. I am used to Windows but I might use Mac if it is better.
I used the technique of slicing a longer sample of sound effects except with my own sample I made from a broken Korg DS-8 synth. It has corrupted memory so it makes weird sounds that are different every time I turn it on. Might make a video showing this bc it is really cool. I decided to record this into Abelton and I was gonna make it into a weird noise album just for the experiment, but then I clicked the slice option. Modulated those slices with a couple arpergiattors and it created a really cool beat. Did the same with a sample of me playing strings using SpitFire Audio, and a bunch of amen breaks. I have a song released called "Sampled Strings" (by Kaiser724) if anyone wants to check out what the sampling sounds like.
If I get around to it I will release recordings of the corrupted DS-8 on bandcamp so everyone can play around w the cool noises. It is really funny bc when it breaks sometimes it makes a whole beat and all the lights start blinking in time w the beat (going to show this on video at some point bc it is interesting, makes the same sort of random sounding beat every time)

Really cool video, glad the algorithm put you in my direction. Easy sub.
These are all really strong techniques, and about the only personal touch I'd add is that you're giving yourself some plug-in time there's a lovely stutter effect called Chris Glitch which I often enjoy bringing in to these kinds of arrangement.
I'm not ever really sure about IDM as a genre label, but I accept the one I tend to use myself - melodic ambient glitch - isn't necessarily any better or even less pretentious.
Occurs to me there is a greater-than-zero chance you might like some of the stuff on my Channel too, feel free to have a gander if you like. Keep up the good work boss.
