OY3AH!
timeless music. when people hear me playing aphex twin they either think its proper classical or from a week ago
Yes!
A guy who genuinely lives and breathes music. It's his whole existence, and it shines through in his output. You know he'd still be doing it without a record deal. Without the fame. That's why he's always so perplexed by it in interviews. The fame is a minor distraction for him.
Makes great use of the footage from all 2 Aphex Twin interviews
Hahahaha sad but true

ABSOLUTE GOAT
Mark greatest of all time bud
Feed the goat! 7\
They look like serial killers
the tuss, indeed
right
literally one of the greatest artists of all time. the fact this guy is even real is insane since hes so cryptic and secretive most of the time
He's definitely succeeded at making music and sounds that haven't been done before. This is also a nice collection of his very rare interviews.
I thank David Firth for introducing me to this absolute legend (and Boards of Canada too of course)
SAME.
Dude same! It was in that Huha interview
For me it was Darren Aronofsky's Pi that intruded me to this genre, and then I discovered AT through wanting to find more. And love me some David Firth too.
Locust Toybox (David Firth's go at electronic) is pretty darned legit..
Same here, the first song I ever heard from him was Milkman from his vid. Funny enough I didn't start listening to Rich until a few years later.
My dad first introduced me to Aphex Twin When I was a kid back in the 90s, I've been listening to him daily ever since my favorite IDM producer of all time. Absolute brilliant.
The greatest electronic music producer that ever lived. Yeah, I said it. Fight me.
And... you are right.
cloudyam Of course he is. I don’t know how anyone could listen to his body of work and not come to that conclusion. Who the hell is better lol? There just isn’t anyone even close.
True. I can't think of any other innovator as good as him. His grasp of melody and rhythm. His sound design and technical ability. His mastery of so many styles.
My favorite electronic producer is Flying Lotus. From AT stuff Im only really familiar with Selected Ambient Works. Which project would you say is Aphex at his best?
pgwwa2 his best project from start to finish is probably Selected ambient works or Richard D James album, however his individual masterpieces are just as important. Here are a few songs that are considered his best/most varied. Alberto Balsalm, Girl boy song (probably his most impressive, but make sure to listen to a high quality version, not the David Firth video version), fingerbib, Flim, Iz-Us, Rhubarb, Acrid Avid Jam shred, Avril 14th. I’d say that if you listened to all those, you’d get a good idea of his talent and varying styles, although he has even more styles because he has released music under so many different names, with literally thousands of tracks. All of those songs excluding Avril 14th were made in the 90s, which is kind of unbelievable.
He’s literally the fucking best living composer on the planet. He’s like a modern Beethoven...or Mozart. The fact that we get to roam the planet during the same era that he’s alive in is a total gift. I mean...seriously. You can have all your favorites all you want, but nobody is better than this man.
Richard couldn't hold a candle to Mozart, Beethoven or Liszt. Not even close Lol.
They don't make the same style of music, but he is their equivalent in electronic music. @@deckofcards87
@@deckofcards87you might think otherwise if you realized the amount of time involved creating, writing, and programming involved. But I get where you’re coming from because there’s never been another Michelangelo. There’s always an exception to the rule.
What a rare genius this guy is. Britain really does produce some talent.
Love Aphex Twin and other various UK electronica based acts like
Burial, FourTet, Squarepusher, Autechre, Massive Attack, The Bug, Allflaws
Untrue is such a crazy album!!!
Absolutely
@@ContraIV so is electric ladyland so cool pfp
Boards of canada too
Chris Cunningham + Aphex Twin = Transcendence
it undermines it when you start talking about it really
Drugs once did Aphex Twin. It was on a comedown for 2 weeks
Are you sure you ever came down, are you still up there?
No drugs in my life, always deeply enjoing Aphex Twin with a clear head, such good vibrations!
Richard David James is bigger than Elvis Presley.
in your head perhaps
ye his face
King of rock vs king of electronic music
Comparing apples to oranges again, aren't we?
And Socrates is bigger than Scott Peterson. Literally not the same at all. Meaningless.
When i was 18 i used to see Skrillex as the greatest electronic music producer, now i'm 25 and i think Aphex Twin has been always the best.
Skrillex's favourite track ever is Flim
Skrillex is nothing
USED TO THINK TIESTO OR ARMIN VAN BURREN OR PAUL VAN DYK BUT YEAH NOW IM 27 AND KNOW ITS AFX!
that’s what i’m learning as well. i actually found aphex twin through skrillex. but both are my idols and i feel are meant to be enjoyed in their own way
Never heard Aphex and Skrillex compared before … I’m from the UK (maybe it’s different elsewhere) but here aphex is a religion, skrillex is a joke … wether u worship him or aren’t a fan (like me really) everyone respects Twin as a key part of history… meanwhile skrillex is genuinely (with no exaggeration) commonly regarded as the worst thing to happen to music… I don’t mean to be harsh but I’ve genuinely never met a skrillex fan before let alone someone who knows about other non ‘bro-steppy’ music … let alone music like aphex… but now I see a ton of comments mentioning him… maybe I had him wrong?
What makes him different from other electronic artist is that his music stands out. You can go back to his debut album listen to it and you wouldn't think it came out in 85 or 92. It's timeless. Even after listening to the newest album, he hasn't lost his touch.
I recently watched an interview with him and learned that he only sleeps 30 minutes a night, he comes up with his music subconsciously through lucid dreams. That explains why he's been my favorite music artist for the last 25 years and why he calls it Braindance and also why that is my favourite genre of all time. heliosphan is my #1 fave track. it gives me purpose to share this with all the planet aphex children 🌏👽🦋💚
Haha funny how people take everything he say serious. He is obviously (partly) trolling when he talked about sleeping. He doesn't like doing interviews at all end, and that's probably one of the reasons he's lying and messing around. It might be partly true, about that he thinks sleep is a waste of time and that's why he sleeps less now and then... But Just half An hour Every night?! No way any human is capable of functioning normally in the long run with Just half a hour of sleep Every single night! Haha
I am well aware of his Tomfoolery in interviews, my hardcore aphex fan friends and I believe this specific statement to be true
he was joking this entire interview dude lol
Finally someone appreciates heliosphan. The world not deserves this song. Also polynomial-c.
felt inspired thankyou
It's been 23 years since I started listening to Aphex, and his tracks have never grown old.
"I only make music for myself" thank you for this nice chunk of wisdom
Every one of the excerpts from his own music went very well with the dialogue.
Well edited, cheerz.
What an incredibly dense three minute video
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
They Say Every 236 Years Aphex Twin Re-Appears And then... plans his return
The greatest, I love how humble he is
Love the edit!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY🤗
This clip makes me fucking cry. As already mentioned by someone in the comments - we all fucking love you, Richard and I mean it in the most sincere way. Wiping my fucking tears here...look what you did to me, Mixmag)
Great video, great guy ~
4 days and I will see a genius, waited 14 years for this day
It's about time to make a Warp Records documentary, it would be HUGE.
Thanks you for this.
Great video.
Aphex Twin is so good
Exactly. Most musical geniuses do make music for themselves... RDJ is a legend
the fact that this is him live mind-blowing
I like how he said that when you start talking about electronic music it starts to undermine it
Words just don’t work when expressing how amazing this is... nothing that can be typed will compare with a reflection of this video.
His works were some of the greatest moments in electronic music since its inception
Richard, you're genius. ❤️
I’m from Cornwall and I make electronic music he is one of my key influences
Me too (though I escaped Cornwall in 1993). RDJ has been a huge influence. Was lucky enough to see him play the Bowgie, back in the day. :)
Aphex twin wannabe much?
It's totally natural to be inspired by artists we admire, without wanting to become them.
Flynn Hanbury Tenison What's your soundcloud
you're a liar and nobody cares where you're from.
One of the most talented artists to ever live. We are lucky to be alive at the same time as him.
One of the most interesting dudes out there
‘So it doesn’t become a headache to listen to’ IIIIIIII WANTTT YOURRR SOUULLLL
One of the better composers, period

brilliant!
I literally cry to him.
Chief of Cornwall. Absolute legend.
chef of cornwall
What a bloody legend!
I love his point of view!
Fair play to the lad for not letting it take over his identity
Aww it opened with my favorite song I'm so happy
Richard goat in many ways, make so many great tracks in 80/90, most artists can't even copy his way now with any gear,
madness, looking for his gig in Berlin soon.
The fact all of hits were made in the 90s, but fit so well in this century and many to come
I think the clip at the end sums it perfectly. It's possible, although not necessarily easy, to describe RDJ's music in words but without experiencing it for yourself you could never understand what makes it so unique. I think film critic, Mark Kermode was quoting another reviewer when he used the phrase 'it is a film that is a film', in describing a film that operates on the level of audio-visual experience and defies explanation in words. I'd extend the same description to the music of Aphex Twin, "it is music that is music".
his new music is freaking aweosme, the videocliptoo. T69 collapse.
I like your music and sound .
most coherent docu yet
Awsome best music in 21 century
Great interviewer. They seem to really connect.
Aphex Twin is a fucking GOD. True inspiration. TRUE ARTIST. Boundary pusher. Makes for HIMSELF. Absolute creative role model. Not to follow in his footsteps but to seek what he was seeking. A GREAT ARTIST for our time
One the greatest musicians ever.
William Montgomery ain't ever gonna stop listenin to Aphex Twin
God, I love this video.
Nice edit
Excited for that new EP, Collapse has be reliving some Druqks complexity. You can always tell who is and isn't a fan when someone goes "Oh yeah Aphex Twin they are awesome."
I think this is the first time ive heard him speak in the 20 odd years of listening, he sounds like Richard Ayoade from the IT crowd
Genius, hands down!
Thanks John Frusciante for introducing me to AFX
Man his time on this earth and music will live forever😊
This just makes his music more interesting
no soundbytes on solitaire? it's a quintessential aspect of the aphex twin live experience!
Does anyone know what interview the audio at 0:55 is from? Would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻
Super
Man after my own heart. Music for him that others happen to like.
legend
What is the piano tune the second Cornwall flashes on the screen?
Sneaky Fish Aphex Twin - avril 14th
Electronic music - 'I think it undermines it when you start talking about it'
absolutely.
@RA
a very unique individual, I doff my hat
He is fav music, I have all his albums, I need to get one more and the new one out in September.
Very Euphoric
He was born in Limerick in Ireland and lived there in his youth.
aphex twin should definitely be on the head stage for the next glastonbury
Nice one 🙂🙃😊
Where is my .215061hour long uncut DVD with AFX?
Song that plays before Flim?
Excellent video, I love Aphex Twin. Please let me translate the subtitles.
Hope you can translate the video. I must understand what's saying so I can understand a little more his music
"Rubber Jhonny" and "Come To Daddy" are the best Aphex, to me...
I want to cry...
But if we don’t talk about electronic music, how does it get shared and heard? I like telling my friends about instrumentals I find a cool and why they stick out to me. If there’s texture in a song or some unique instrument in there or the mixing of the song is next level or the bassline makes me feel something spiritual, I want to tell someone about it somehow. Maybe not go into full blog-post detail since i don’t know every musical term, but express my feelings about it to maybe get someone else to hear it. I think there’s a conversation there for electronic music but I can how it can turn sour pretty quick.
Timeless genius
Been a huge influence on my music👁️
I love their songs,
