Thank you Dr. Taylor. I am 60 and was on HRT last fall for five months, slept better, and vaginal dryness disappeared, no UTIs. My GP wasn’t comfortable with me being on HRT longer term, believed in a high risk of breast cancer and convinced me to come off it. I’ve not felt not myself since , sleep problematic and dryness and UTIs returned. I’m going back to my GP and insist on returning to HRT.

Menopause is THE most neglected topic on Planet Earth, despite the fact that half of the world's population spend half of their lives in the menopause. Worst of all, it's even neglected by the very women who endure it!
There is no education on menopause in medical school. And it is not an area of much focus in Ob/Gyn training programs.

Dr. Tailor, you are doing a great job with this channel; all the information is very well structured, great explained, easy to understand and very very helpful. I particularly looked for information related to the relationship between the hormones and brain functionality, as later in my life I have clearly noticed the pattern during the monthly cycle. However, once I reached the peri-menopause and menopause face, I felt my brain thinking more clearly than ever. Also the moods almost vanished, so I could do the job in an organized and efficient manner. Once I reached menopause I had issues with sleep, sagging skin, loss of skin firmness, vaginal dryness, chronic constipation (I do not know if it is related or not to menopause as no doctor is willing to admit this); I did not have hot flashes..at least yet. For the reasons presented above, mainly for the skin, sleep and intestinal transit, I decided to try HRT. I have just ended the first month of HRT, during this month I felt arrhythmia, pains in my left hand, I had water retention (I think I had never ever had so much), even developed hemorrhoids that I never had before, I feel panic / overwhelmed with I have to do at job, and at the end of the menstrual cycle very emotional, I could say actually depressive state. On the pros part I can see a slight improvement in my sleep and I guess the body skin has recover a bit. This was my fist month experience on HRT. I do not know if you Dr. Taylor are reading these comments, but for sure your advice would help me. I definitely do not want to go back to all the brain stages in the monthly cycle (even at an upper rate now as I felt during this month). From what I saw in some of your videos that I listened to, perhaps external estrogen intake (maybe lower concentration) and progesterone in the IUD form would be a better solution for me...anyway now I will start again one month on tables with estradiol and norgestrel (2mg/0.5mg) and see how it goes. Thank you for all the information you share,

I had endometrial ablation ( due to extremely heavy long periods) a year ago ( which completely stopped my periods) and noticed back around February that I wasn’t going bald but my hair was extremely dry as was the rest of my body. I was also starting to gain weight in midsection and becoming more and more forgetful. I asked my doc recently ( a month ago) if he would place me on hormones since my lab results showed I have little progesterone and little estrogen and my testosterone free was 3.1 & test.total 22.6 FSH was 58 and estrogen was low -can’t temper the number off the top of my head. So Doc recommended Bioidentical Compounded hormones. I couldn’t do the suggested 4 clicks per night, a mixture of estrogen, testosterone and progesterone; as it made me nauseous and gave me horrible heartburn so I am now doing only 2 clicks but have noticed a 7 pound weight gain in 1 month due to an insane appetite!! I stopped taking it cold Turkey and now I’m back to feeling lethargic again and like crap. I don’t know what to do because I’m already over weight and don’t want to gain anymore weight. Any suggestions on how to calm the appetite and with the onset of fluid retention??? Surely there is something I can do. I have already asked doc and they just told me to come in and weigh each week and to keep track of symptoms for the next month as well as just doing 2 clicks instead and work my way up to 4 of the 1mL mix.

Happier on steady estrogen, but I can safely say I didn't experience the problems because of PCOS and wonky cycles. Happier now since hysterectomy took everything and the pathology found what ultrasound didn't, polyp with cancer, stage 1. Might ask gyno at cancer check if progesterone would help

You are amazing Dr. Taylor! What you’re saying in this video rings true for me as I was on medication to block progesterone (Fibristol) until they took it off the market because of its potential to cause liver damage. My mood was so much better and I treated my family nicer while on it which might have to do with not having to deal with the extremely heavy periods from fibroids, a polyp, endometriosis etc. I followed directions and never doubled up and the way it worked for me - I was three months on, two months off. My mom had breast cancer at 35 and my dad, prostate cancer in his 60s and tons of other cancers on both sides of the family make me a poor candidate for hormone therapy I suppose. Blah!

My brain and body throughout a cycle:
During period: feels like my brain is going through self reflection. I accept and forgive everything and everyone.
Perhaps my body is accepting and forgiving the fact that I didn't have a pregnancy in the previous cycle.
After period, on esteogen, my brain is sharp, clear, optimistic, productive, amazing, super functioning and on top of all games. The clarity and presenceof my brain is unmatched. I can achieve anything and do everything. I see myself and everyone as good, I'm easygoing and it's easy to let go of people's mistakes.
Perhaps my body is doing all it can to find a good mate.
Then the ovulation hits and I get brain fog and get totally blank, confused, and absolutely out of focus. It feels like I can't do anything, and I don't know anything. I get worried about my life choices and where I am in life.
Perhaps my body is questioning did we manage to get pregnant? Perhaps my body is confused too.
After Ovulation , I am more judgemental, critical, pessimist or perhaps that's realistic, and I was way too optimistic before ovulation. I see what can go wrong in a project and people's mistakes bother me.
Perhaps my body is kinda sensing and speculating that we are not pregnant is starting to get critical and pessimistic.
3 days before period, I am angry. My body knows that we are not pregnant and whose fault is this? My partner! During these days, I don't tolerate people's slightest misconduct around me, and I make sure I get back to those who have mistreated me when I was happy and optimistic early on my cycle! I break friendships and stand up to people. It's hard to manage the anger but I actually like that I get assertive and defend my boundaries.
Then I get period and here we go all over again.

    Hi Taylor
I am about to turn 49 and feel that I've been peri menopause for how long I'm not sure but a cpl years at least.
I asked my current Dr to test hormones about a year and half ago and she pushed back and didn't want to do it because she said until I'm in actual menopause the hormones will be up down and all over the place so I backed off.Now my periods are starting the skipping phase since January have one then skip a month then have one so it seems menopause is starting show herself ...no hot flashes yet but feeling the moodiness ( not depression) and crazy anxiety 😊.
I'm going to go see my Doctor again and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist and see what I shouldn't do.
Finding someone to hear me and work with me and not want to do the old here take some antidepressants might be a challenge but I know it's what I need to do....I need to find one that will let me know all of my options.
When and if I decide to consider hrt which I'm absolutely open to if it's right for me.
Now regarding if there is breast cancer history in my family ...no history thankfully but what about other cancers ? If there has been other types of cancers does that been I should avoid hrt ?
Lung cancer ( mom and grandfather),liver cancer (Moms brother ).and lymph node cancer ( Moms brother ) are the ones that relatives have had a couple are possibly from lifestyle choices ...the lung and liver cancer.
Thank you for all that you do 🙏🏻😊.

I'm not sure how these hormones effect my brain but for me they certainly do something. Chastberry 2 weeks at a time helped me with brain fog for several months. Then it didn't and needed some help so I have been using red clover the other 2 weeks for 3 months now and have an amazing brain all the time and not much joint pain, cool. What I have also noticed is the few days when I go from one herb to the other I deal with some irritability. It's like.pms twice each month. Maybe that's my trade off for not ever having much pms back when it made sense. I appreciate knowing that this is a symptom for me and when I can expect it and I appreciate that it's only a few days at a time. Thankfully.I recognize it as a symptom and have been able to keep it to myself and that's not always easy with humans.
Puppy being the one exception. She's always a sweet angel.

Yes I know what hormones these herbs support that's why I use them the way I do. I didn't know progesterone causes brain fog in most women. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I will try to remember to watch for it if the brain fog itself doesn't get in the way. Maybe it's the phytoestrogens that I have dominating my diet that make my brain happy even when using chastberry. I feel quite good overall but I do have some weird symptoms that are all over the place but that's to be expected. I'm also very thankful to not have that annoying joint pain for now anyway.

Great video also agree it would be great to isolate the 2 hormones to determine the exact roles they play in mental health and the symptoms during the fluctuations of the levels each hormone. So in relation to that when a woman has hysterectomy with uterus & ovaries removal, and recieves hrt; estrogen only, as you say she therefore no longer requires progesterone for protection of the uterus, and the only need for progesterone is to protect the uterus. Has there ever been a situation in your experience where a woman who has had her ovaries & uterus removed also required progesterone for her mental well being and symptom relief that were not relieved from estrogen only?

Also when one gets a hysterctomy post menopause, and was on estrogen/progesterone prior a hysterectomy and then stops oral progesterone because it's not needed anymore, curious if there would be any withdrawal side effects as one's body would be used to the oral progesterone and if so, how long would that last for the progesterone to leave the system?

@@MenopauseTaylorThank you for your reply, I had an ablation done years ago for heavy periods due to fibroids. At that time younger and naive I had presumed they also removed the fibroids, my dr never explained this, besides telling me It would lessen or stop my painful heavy periods. I recently had an ultrasound and have multiple bigger scale fibroids. I am on .50 estrogen/100 mg oral micronized progesterone but have a severe intolerance to progestins of which I think is negating the estrogen benefits and if I go higher I start to bleed (don't know if this is too much dosage or the fibroids causing the bleeding). So now my only option is to get a hysterectomy as so to continue the estrogen alone and at a dosage that will relieve me of my symptoms without the progesterone hindrance. I would really like to have a consultation with you but money is tight, I have not been able to work since entering post menopause because of the progestigen intolerance and with that many severe side effects that I have had to take becuase of still intact uterus. Dear Dr. Taylor, should HRT be avoided by women with extremely dense BI-RADS d breast/breasts (prior to any HRT use)? HRT use will further increase breast density, which lowers the sensitivity of mammography. If so, what are the most effective HRT alternatives? Is there a video on the subject? Thank you.

I will discuss all of this in the unit on breast cancer. If you wish to address it on a personal level now, please schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

I am on HRT. I’m trying to phase it in a little at a time. My bp was running a little high. I feel like it’s raising my bp and my heart is working harder. I’m afraid to take it. Should I message you for a consult?

First, thank you for being wonderful and amazing! Your education is life saving. However, I'm one of those confused women. I just started HRT and my Dr. wants to give me progesterone although I've had a partial hysterectomy. I remember from your video E+P increases risk of heart attack. What do we do when there's so much changing info?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 года назад

It is not changing information. It is misinformation on the part of your doctor.
PLEASE, schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME and then you will know all the facts and avoid falling prey to professionals who know nothing about menopause.

Don't hesitate to schedule a consultation with me, my dear.
This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

Hi Dr Barbara thank you so much for your very informative videos. I had a full hysterectomy 2 years ago. Still struggling on how to balance the hormones. Should I take progesterone and estrogen together? I was on the patch this last week I started on one estradiol pill a day I was wondering if I should also take a hundred mg progesterone a day? Or estradiol alone. Please help 🙏 thanks again!
