    I really dig your on water review and guide videos. You make it look so easy! I was going to put this kayak on the short list for my first WW kayak until I saw how much trouble you had with the skirt!

      @WadeHarrison  3 года назад +1

      Oh dam the cockpit rims on all Pyranha boats are difficult but with the right skirt it would be easier

    Great video Wade. I tried the med 9R II at 195lbs and found I was getting spun out in middle of class IV-V. I’ve read the med is good up to about 180lbs or so so I’m gonna give the Lg 9R II a shot. Man the Tellico looks like a blast! Gotta get down there soon. Thanks for the review!

      David S yeah I’m 175lb and those edges do seem to catch but once you get a feel for them I really really liked the boat

    Hello Wade, loving your content at always. Quick question or two - would you recommend a medium 9R II to a reasonably short dude who currently weighs around 155 lbs? For reference, my paddling style is heavily slalom-based. The runs I see myself using a creek boat for in the near future would be stuff like the Upper and Top Yough, the Class IV-Vs in northern West Virginia, and the steep creeks of the Delaware Water Gap. Would I be better off looking into a slightly smaller creeker like, for example, a Zet Five?

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 года назад

      Your at that sweet spot for kayaking weight you would be good in a 9r2 and I think from what you told me will really know how to use that edge on that tails also I think you will really like the Five both these boats with fit you really good honestly you can’t go wrong with either more on availability and price ZET plastic is some the beat I seen and the weight and outfitting is amazing I did reviews on both of those

    Get the Immersion skirt with the red grip loop it’s sized for the Pyranha, the yellow grip is for the smaller Dagger cockpit

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 года назад +1

      Yeah I know problem I paddle a lot of different boats and mostly dagger this boat was just for the review when time to buy a new I might get the other one

    Now that you had time in the alpha and the 9r2; what did you like better? I too am worried about the lack of stern rocker on steeper creeks, considering the 9r2 large is even longer than the medium. The bow looks great on both boats. Did you feel anything that would persuade you over one boat or the other? nirvana's, phantoms, and OG's aren't my cup of tea; so really looking into these two boats. Thanks for the videos and your input!

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  4 года назад +3

      If you are mostly creeking on mid to lower flows I would say go alpha if bigger water pushy stuff I would go 9RII the alpha was very predictable and feels like it would take care of you more. The 9R felt like a rocket and the edges once you get use to them were awesome to engage and take off both are really good. So really comes down to the type water your doing..

  • @DFSchappell
    @DFSchappell Год назад +1

    You mentioned how the 9r2 & the phantom both tend to stern tap.. did you experience the same thing in the original 9r? Also, do you think one is faster than the other?

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Год назад

      Not as much because how narrow and rounded the stern was on the OG 9r

    I'm entertaining the idea of getting a Machno or 9rII as a river runner/creeker. Have you had much time in the Machno? If so, what were your thoughts on it?

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  4 года назад +1

      Chalbert421 I liked the 9r2 over the machno I paddle a Machno few times and it’s a good all round boat but if I had to chose I would go 9r2

    • @Christgoldberg
      @Christgoldberg 4 года назад

      @@WadeHarrison what did you like better about the 9r2? I'm certainly not an advanced paddler and am looking for something to help build confidence, while at the same time being higher performance with harder edges than say a Mamba or Remix.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  4 года назад +1

      Chalbert421 oh In that case yes I would look at the machno and new nomad they paddle very similar except the machno has little bit of a slight edge on it the bow of the machno seems to go over things better but the sizes are small like the medium felt small And the large felt like it was slightly to big I felt at 175 lb I was in this weird in between but the sizing on the nomads are spot on both of these boats will be good choices

    • @Christgoldberg
      @Christgoldberg 4 года назад +2

      @@WadeHarrison sounds good! Thank you for your suggestion. Think the Large Machno is the boat. I'm a good bit heavier than 175 at 230. Haven't paddled the large Newmad, but i like that the Machno has a bit more edge. Thanks again!

      @elliottackroyd7475 4 года назад +2

      Ryan Cullen he described it as a “true medium” so I’m guessing he’s in the medium which is for 65-100kg or 143-220lbs.

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8 4 года назад

      Wade Harrison, I’m a lightweight (135lbs), so I’m concerned about being too light for this boat. Any thoughts? I’m leaning towards Alpha 75 since it’s apparently more of a “small-medium,” but I may demo both. I also like what you had to say about Alpha vs 9RII in a different reply here. Currently paddling S Machno, S Ripper, and M Ozone. Thx!
