    I got to paddle it just before you picked it up, and basically totally agree with what you had to say about it. It does feel like it can definitely kind of mush doing real sharp crisp eddy turns. But with all that rocker it’s not much of a surprise. Pretty cool boat and really just a new category. Nice review.

    Yeah Wade! Another banger vid man. I've been eyeing this one. For me I'm thinking of trying out some racing - maybe start with the Ocoee race. Anyway, long boats just aren't as nimble as I would like so this boat appeals to me as I could also use it for other runs besides just racing.

    Awesome review, Wade! I already have a Scorch Medium but now I'm thinking I want this one, too. I use a Machno for creeking (stuff with rocks) and the Scorch M when rocks aren't a big deal, but if I got this one, would I need the medium any more? Christmas came early. The X finally arrived in New Zealand last Friday, so I got it out for the first away trip of our season. Like you said, it is different from anything I have paddled. (It is nothing like the Stinger). I am still getting my head around it, and body position is critical for ferrying, which I am still not getting right all the time. I spun out a few times which caused me to go a few places I would rather not have gone. Fortunately, it is super stable in big water and I managed to miraculously stay upright despite hitting some very large stuff sideways.
    One question: how did you find the seat position? I am 6'1" and around 195 lbs. After one run I moved the seat forward which improved things drastically. But despite having it as far forward as possible and the backband as far up as it will go, I still feel like I am too far back in the boat. A boater friend observing me had the same thought. I feel I need to lean forward just to achieve a neutral position.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  Год назад +1

      Good day buddy and that’s great that you are finally seeing them drop down your way
      I bet it would be awesome on the whitewater there. And as far as the seat I never felt the need to move it. I’m 5’10” 180lb and the middle was always perfect. I did do the backband hack so that it stays high on my back which felt like it gave me more control.
      Yeah paddling position changes the way that thing handles.

    Awesome video Wade, you make that boat look amazing. Was hoping you had ideas for paddlers at the top end of the weight range for the medium (+/-185 pounds), and lower end of the range for the large. I have a Machno for creeking and low water runs, so looking for a big water boat for charging down the river, dodging the big holes and punching through the smaller ones. Not much chance of getting any demo's in where I live, so not sure if X, or large or medium would perform better, for those pushy big water runs?

    • @WadeHarrison

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 года назад +2

      The code is more of a all round type boat with more wider range of kayakers in mind and the scorch has a lower tail and is aggressive in the edges both have really good modern rocker and can blast through about anything but the code is more versatile steep tight creeks to big water the scorch really craves that big water and steep lower volume creeks those edges will hang up more but really both boats are really good so my advice is try to demo each on the same run if you can

    Planning hull boats known to be painful off bigger drops, Kayakers try to nose the bow in after their boof off bigger drop. With the big big bow rocker how does the X hit the water on a big drop. Seems like it would be hard to dive the bow straight in and unpleasant sudden resurface of bow might occur. Just thinking, there must be some draw back to big bow rocker.

    How do you think this boat will behave for us 250lb plus guys? I know its designed off of the medium and top of the weight range is 250lbs. I'm kinda digging it...the sportscar meets steamroller nature of the boat sounds pretty sweet. Would I be better off lookin at the Large instead of the X? Doesn't sound like there are any plans to bring out the X in any other sizes. I'd probably be using it to have a cruising day on Class IV rather then trying to be pushing limits.
    Thanks for getting out there...I'm sure we'll hear more of your thoughts about this boat and see you take it down some bigger harder whitewater.

    just curious
    i know this boat has been made for big water, and that is where it excels, no doubt about it, with length, rocker and aggressive rails
    but how good would you say is it for low water tight steep technical creeking, a lot of rock contact
    such as more bathtub boats as machno and nomad were made for 10 years ago
    (obviously there are people that can do it in a ripper, but for us real slow folks with slow reflexes)
    i know it wasnt really made to do it all, but having a do it all X creek boat seems hella nice ❤
    or was it meant to take such challenges?
    cheers 🐜
