    Wade, as always, great content and super helpful! Im torn between Sccorch Large and code medium. At 180 without gear it seems like my weight fits better in the COde med range but there is only 3 Liters difference between them…Does it make sense to look at the similar volume when trying to decide or are they just to different of boats to compare in that way? Same volume but quite different weight range. Would you size yourself in a med or large? Thanks, Pat

    Hi Wade, thanks for this and all your other extremely informative reviews.
    I have a question re the ferrying ability of the Code. I used to paddle a WS Habitat many years ago and that was the boat with the most rocker I have paddled. I could never get it to hold a ferry angle in pushy cl 3 stuff. Does the Code behave similarly or is this not an issue. Am asking because of the pronounced rocker it has. Also, if I came down and stayed around 205lbs would the medium Code work? I am 210 at the moment.
    Thanks again bud.

    • @WadeHarrison

      you are caught in that in between size so technically i say go L but the medium is actually pretty big but when comes to creekers more volume usually better coloradokayak.com/products/dagger-code-whitewater-kayak?ref=wade&variant=40787682885808
      and it paddles nothing like the habitat I spent some time in one of those while out west and it was terrible.

Tell me in your opinion as I have an Antix 2.0 , for fast flowing rivers is it worth adding to the fleet, I've moved from a machno to the Antix as I thought the machno just skipped over everything and Eddie's were hard to achieve, the Antix rails make it easier to achieve.

    Hi Wade - thanks for your videos on the code and the Scorch. I’m trying to decide between the medium and large code. I’m 185 lbs - normally I would just paddle both - but I’m where I live there is no stock to even try. I’m a class 4 paddler - it’s always nice to have some extra volume for overnights or extra gear but I also don’t really want a bathtub! Any thoughts?

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  2 года назад +2

      I'm 185 also and have paddled both and the LG is not Hugh but it is notable bigger but easy to control
      if your really thinking of loading it down with gear think how much weight you will have in there? you plus all your gear on is what another 15lbs so you now 200+ now if you start adding gear in the boat I think the cut off should be about 200 on the Med so if your really thinking will be carrying a lot I say LG

I'm 167lbs and when I changed the Phantom for the DRX I appreciated the more volume DRX has. I found sometimes the Phantom edgy on some features like steep creeking but perfect on high volume rivers. @@WadeHarrison glad to hear the knees in the Md felt better.
      I don’t have a ton of experience w Dagger boats, but those I’ve known were not very dry. My wife actually just sold her Mamba today (she got a small Antix 2.0 and loves it!). While her Mamba wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t super dry either. And a couple weeks ago I took out a buddy’s medium rewind and it leaked a ton from one of the bolts right in front of the cockpit (the ones that secure the grab handle and step out pillar). I could literally feel water dripping onto my shin whenever the bow had water on it, and even when I leaned to make the water in the pocket of that grab handle flow over the bolt head. 😖 I checked it post-paddle and it was totally snug, so I’m not sure what the deal is.
      Also, I forgot that unlike here in the PNW, you SE boaters don’t have to wear dry tops in the summer, so that explains the water in your boat, haha.

      That’s less volume and lower weight range than both the small Machno and small Code, so definitely a true small. Pretty sure this won’t work for me, especially with those rails. How does it compare to the scorch?

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 года назад +3

      going to a video on that later might do more of a podcast thing o that but short answer the scorch rails are really aggressive and the code is softer

      @@WadeHarrison do you personally like the softer or aggressive ones? And yes do a podcast on it everyone wants to know that answer without hurting anyone’s feelings lol I’m sure there both great but there has to be a king! Great videos!

      I have both in large. In my opinion, the "missions" are different. The Code, with a 27" beam, prioritizes stability. With a 25.5" beam, the Scorch is more about speed. The Scorch is all edge/all day, while the Code feels more like the edge is on-demand. According to the videos I've seen from Pyranha, they tapered down the stern volume to make it easier to get the bow up and over stuff. The Code is full in the butt and doesn't ender on drops. Those are a few things that jump out to me.

    Hi Wade, great video. I’m new to paddling, and the bug has bitten me real hard I am taking my 1st trip to the Taos box next weekend 🤙- group paddle in an 8 man inflatable . I think my 1st boat is going to be a do it all - Sea Eagle 380x because I need some thing that can do flat water, camping and whitewater and have the portability of an inflatable. but I eventually want a dedicated white water boat and I keep coming back to the Dagger Code - I am 6 ft and 170 - in a medium. I think the Code really appeals to me as I boat I can learn in, but won’t get bored with as I get better. Thanks for your awesome ride review. I would like to ask what your thoughts are on a 1st white water paddle that won’t break the bank.

      Awesome the code is exactly that beginner to expert design and as far as a paddle there’s a few options I always say never skimp on a paddle that’s technically your engine no matter what kayak I’m in I always want a good paddle and the one i would suggest is the werner powerhouse in 200cm link below 👇
