I get why it was cut but their interaction was so genuine just the way they were walking and talking over each other and being just barely awkward. It makes for a total realistic real world interaction imo
I do like what this says about Chuckie and his level of loyalty to Will. He's not going to lay out why Will is the way he is, he won't put Will's business on the streets like that, but he does make an effort to let her know that she isn't just another girl and that Will does care about her in his own way.
Not improbable that Skylar had questions and would turn to Chuckie, but this looks like they were trying to feel it out and didn't think it would add to the story.

Talk about total change in tone... Minnie Driver was fine. Affleck just came across as weird and it's not something you would see either of the characters doing. I can see why it was written, but I'm glad it was cut.
I have this weird fetish that I know it'll never be satisfied: I would actually see a second film of any movie ever made, same characters and stuff, but simply watching them doing "regular and simple" things e.g. Batman dealing with his company in a day of work, Frodo writting a poem while being in his house or Darth Vader reading a book while watching the stars through the ship's window. Maybe I'm the only person in the world that has the need of thinking what would've happened a day before and what'll characters do a day after... of what it's shown in the actual movie.
This scene wasn't really an elegant one, but I don't get why so many say it brought nothing to the table. It makes skyla so much more a great person. She is not only assuming anymore that will lied to her or just giving him the benifit of a doubt because she don't to believe he was lieing... no, she knows and still she want to understand him without judging. She saw his dishonest side but still didn't reject him. It also shows that she is completely fine with his friends and who he really is. Later in the Film when will opens up about the fear she will be gone when she finds something that might not be perfect hits so much harder when we see that she already knew his not so pleasant side but wanted to be with him anyway. She is more than empty words of acceptance in a heated moment, no... she loves hin, not only the idea of him and this is really powerful. Still doesn't make the scene perfect but I can totally see why they filmed it and really hoped, they could have find a way to make this idea work.
Because they are on neutral ground. They are not in either world, neither his, nor hers. It is a decent metaphorical use of an urban "block party" custom based in " common ground".
I know people talk about Robin Williams role in this movie but the whole cast was great Minnie Drivers scene with matt Damon when she asks him to come to California with her.?That was powerful.
I can see why the scene was cut, but I honestly don't think it was all that bad. I wouldn't have minded a little bit of interaction between Skylar and Chuckie than what we see, in this form or another.
They should have included 0:00 - 0:30 somehow in my opinion because it kinda fits to the character... plus it's pretty funny and Ghost in the shell is an awesome movie! :D
I don't think GITS is that great, all style and little substance! but not bad but just too pretentious for my liking. I'll take both Blade Runners, Total Recall (1990), Robocop (1987), the live action version, etc. which i felt did the themes of the movie better. And i'll take Fist of the North Star and Ninja Scroll over GITS
I would not only have liked this scene in the movie, but for it to be even longer. Until we find out that Will was badly abused, his behavior is difficult to understand. But I can see cutting it, because it doesn't go far enough. And maybe Chuckie doesn't know the full truth, or he's unwilling to tell Skylar. And they want to save the big reveal until the end. And it was worth the wait, with Will breaking down and sobbing on Shawn's shoulder.
Watching ghost in the shell then talking outside while wearing a windbreaker with what appears to be a US Army 3rd Corps patch. 3rd Corps also known as the Phantom Corps. The following year Phantoms comes out.
People have said it was probably cut because it dragged down the pacing of the movie. And I can see that, but on the other hand, maybe it depended on when in the movie this happened. It could have been made to work, like as a slow change of pace 'palate cleanser' before transitioning to the next more energetic section? People also said it was too different in tone, and maybe didn't get the 'walking in the middle of the road' metaphor. Again, placement within the movie, bridging to and then away from it -- could'a worked. IMO, any value it has is how it details an alternate path for Will, where she educates herself up enough with Chuckie's help, she overlook's Will's defense mechanism, and possibly heads toward a less satisfying path and life where they never fully open up to each other, because Will's inner scars still limit him. It took the breakup to illustrate for her how troubled Will was, and allow her to answer within herself whether he was indeed worth it. And to help spur Will toward that solution Sean was finally able to make him see.
The middle of the street thing is meeting half way . I've known a few of these relationships and these people they have the wisdom of their environments which are both incomplete. The film should be recut and remastered.
This scene should have been in the movie. Maybe a cut right before the argument they get into about going to CA. It shows a love on Skylar's part, and a desire to get through Will's thick skin. For the 3 minutes it took, it should have made the final cut.
My idea is a little bit different from all the comments below...It is so natural behavior for a girl to take some advice or more info from bbf of her boyfriend. The reason behind that might be the nature of the ones from venüs ☺😅😅..they always wanna know much more about their boyfriends past or their relations with the others close...Therefore, it would be more common not to cut off the scene despite of respecting to directors decision... Anybody around thinking like me?
This is relevant with the US release of the american remake... But its so raw for the story and the film itself draws you away from the actual story...
best example of why editors deserve way more credit in film culture and why the director is often overrated and certainly over celebrated. This should of never even been filmed, a scene like this so awkward and on the nose could of easily ruined the entire picture. Whoever decided to cut it was a real hero to this project.
Incorrect. Its always better to shoot more footage, even if you don't think you'll need it. You can always cut it if it sucks, but you might stumble across a gem while shooting it that you didn't plan for, or you might be able to use something from the scene to improve the final edit without using the whole scene. I agree that this scene was good to be cut and that editors deserve aot of credit, they have a big impact. But I definitely don't agree that it was wrong for the director to wanna shoot this.
You do realize that the editor isn't putting together the film as they how see fit? It's usually director who tells them what to do, some times the producer.
