    My hot take is playing through bl2 is more of a chore than bl3. While the story is much better having to do it 3 times per VH when you’ve already done it so many times vs just one run on bl3 story

    • @nathanhendrickson790
      @nathanhendrickson790 4 месяца назад +2

      I look at bl2s story like I look at a joker. Sure it makes you laugh at first but tell it enough times and it’ll ultimately not be funny at all. And god help you if you’re on console and can’t take advantage of save editing.

    My hot take is that Borderlands 2 has the best progression system to date as a game design student.
    It handles how the player goes white, to green to, blue, to purple the best. Getting a legendary feel like good in that game, especially when you don't grind for it.
    However, something most players and RUclipsrs miss is how the games handles weapon manufactures and element. They are given to the player to an extent bit by bit instead of all at once.
    Before you reach sanctuary, the player is learning what makes Jacob, Bandit and Dahl weapons unique through playing the game, they are naturally learning how effective fire weapons are against flesh enemies. Then after they reach sanctuary and I believe after the Firehawk chapter. The player start to have the ability to get Electric and Maliwan weapon. Same goes for Acid and Eridum.
    Both start having the chance to drop after a certain point in the story. Acid specsifically, it right at the point where they start throwing robots properly at the player after the willhelm fight.
    While the game does teach the player what each element does. The progression of the game is much better at teaching the player all of the need information about what each element and manufactures does through not throwing everything at the player all at once. It is paced expertly and I love it.

    Pre-sequel is the best game in the franchise. Best skills, best Vault hunters, some of the greatest boss fights in the franchise and the main thing above all the rest... the Best movement. Tell me TPS isn't the best after being in a Acrobat Oz kit flow state, you can't.

      I just completed the main story yesterday for the first time, and started Claptrap dlc. I loved the game. The world lore building was great, and I loved playing as Claptrap. I also loved the Australian influence as that's not something I typically see in videogames. Unfortunately it felt too short, but that's about it. Just left me wanting more.
      Finished claptastic voyage. I heard about the ending, but didn't know specifics. Damn...

    One of my biggest frustrations was with the drop rate for cosmetic items in BL2. I can understand needing to farm bosses etc for ideal build items but I don't get why cosmetics need(ed) to have a similarly low drop rate.

    you asked for more hottakes so here's mine, uh,
    the lategame of Borderlands 3 is better than in any other BL game.
    Yes the weapon rarity stuff legendary shower stuff sucks but hear me out. Before BL3 I never played TVHM or UVHM, I was perfectly fine playing Normal mode again and again for years. BL wasnt about getting better and better loot but instead just the gameplay and story. I'm not a fan of challenging myself either so I just never bothered with TVHM. Didn't even know UVHM exists until after I started watching BL content on YT.
    But with the introduction of Mayhem Modes in BL3 I felt compelled to progress through the different Tiers (this was after the 2.0 update, i heard mayhem mode was awful before that). One day I watched a video discussing mayhem modes and the way it works is basically equivalent of TVHM but with modifiers, and when I heard that I was practically playing TVHM the whole time and with that had more fun than with normal mode, i began playing TVHM in BL2 too.
    So what I'm saying is that without BL3s Mayhem Mode I would've never gotten hooked on the Borderlands lategame and the whole lootchase part of the game lol

    My hot take is that Atlas was a batter villain organization than Hyperion. This is a case of organization vs organization, cause villain wise Jack is still the best villain with Knoxx being the second best. However, Atlas was just more imposing on top of being harder to deal in both in story and in gameplay. The Crimson Lance Soldiers were far more challenging than any of Hyperion's soldiers and their loarder bots or constructors bots. Even the look and design of the Crimson Lance is better. Also Bl1 had the best approach to difficulty, cause it wasn't afraid to put the screws to the player on their first playthrough even early into that first playthrough.

  • @nether3428
    @nether3428 4 месяца назад +5

    I think the difficulty comparison between BL2 and BL3 gets a bit overblown, cause after getting multiple friends into both, i have some friends who cant do raids/takedowns in BL3 to save their life, and some who cant do BL2 raids to save their lives. BL2 feels a lot more about "I farmed for these 3 specific items and now hopefully i can put them together to take down the boss" where as BL3 feels more about "Ive gathered this arsenal of interesting and unique loot, lets see what I can figure out and put together to kill this boss with". Different playstyles and people will find different things difficult about both.
    Both games are incredibly broken, and if you know what you're doing, every boss in this franchise can be killed in 10-20 seconds

  • @mikemidwood9661

    I think the first comment was referring more to the tone than visual design. Like, going back to very grim/dry comedy rather than over the top ironic/meme humor.

    • @emrickazor2610
      @emrickazor2610 4 месяца назад

      Borderlands 1, 2, and TPS had better visual design overall IMO. The handdrawn style reallly was unbeatable. 3 and WL look glossy as fuck compared to them, and it really ruins the appeal of a gritty wasteland.
      We also need to rely less on memes. Like I'm sorry, the meme references are outdated in 3 already, because memes make no sense and evolve at a ridiculous rate. Meanwhile pop culture references are timeless. Example, BL1's "You're on a boat" trophy. description is "Bet you never thought you'd be there.". That reference still holds up because The Lonely Islands "I'm On A Boat" is a timeless masterpiece of a song.

    The mayhem system was done much better than the OP system. Although it is nice to work towards the higher difficulty of OP levels, it feels like artificially extending the game without adding much actual content as opposed to the Mayhem system which added tons of new mayhem exclusive gear, much of which is some of the best in the game. If action skills didn’t scale as ridiculously as they do, the game would likely be as hard as BL2 high OP levels and it would be perfect. It is the insane mayhem scaling of the action skills that makes BL3 easy at endgame.

    I love that the video opens with a take about how we need to go back to BL1, followed by another take about BL1 being superior.
    My super spicy take: Tiny Tina was never a good character. Pickle was a shit character, Ava was a shit character. So, what I am getting at is that Borderlands needs to stop focusing on annoying children characters. Tina had potential as a kid growing up alone and traumatized in the Borderlands world. Buuut because Borderlands 2 is focused too much on being "XD Random loud=funny", Tina was wasted potential, and now the franchise relies way too heavily on her and that "humor" sense.
    I have a second one. Jack wasn't a good character. He was funny and well done on the first run. I hate him after the first playthrough, and now the franchise relies too heavily on him. Every step of the way in 3 there's references to him.
    THIRD take, Butt Stallion is a stupid joke. Unfunny and overdone. If you laugh at the combination of words Butt + Stallion, you're what is wrong with the community.
    At the end of the day, Borderlands 1 is the best game in the franchise because it's dark, gritty, depressing, and you can tell everyone is just trying to survive, most of them failing.

    Hot take part 2: the story of bl3 is bad but let’s not pretend the story of 2 is anything new either. It’s the run of the mill here’s your bad guy here’s a gun go kill him and when you play that story 5 or 6 more times it starts to get annoying.
    Hot take 3: if I’m level 80 playing on uvhm I should not under any circumstances be seeing anything below blue rarity when it comes to loot.

      I agree partially with take 1, I didn't feel like that Joker belongs in that spot, he's a fucking well done villain, don't get me wrong.
      Take 2, I entirely agree. 2's story isn't impressive at all, and towards the middle it feels like they just keep adding twists to prolong the runtime of the game. We could love Sawtooth, we could lose Bloodwing getting kidnapped, those parts wouldn't change the game at all.
      Take 3, I never bothered with UVHM, so I can't really speak for it, but I would say yeah, greens and whites shouldn't be appearing in the hardest difficulty in the game.
