  • Hello, and welcome out on another stomp.
The village of Little Eaton sits on the River Derwent, just on the outskirts of the city of Derby, in the East Midlands.
The Derwent Valley was the home of the Industrial Revolution, with the mills sat on the river. now forming a world heritage site.
We start off at the site of a little know railway spur that came off the main Derby to Sheffield line, and into Peckwash Paper Mill.
The mill survives as a private residence, and thankfully, several remains of the short railway line, once the site of a train disaster in 1900, are preserved too.
After looking at the mill and railway. we explore the former workers cottages before heading into the once great quarries of Little Eaton, where we discover the remains of a 250 year old bridge, locally known as 'The Jaws of Hell'.
We then head into the centre of the village to look at the remains of the midland railway through Little Eaton, the 18th century Little Eaton gang road, and the once great Derby Canal basin and Outrams Wharf.
We finish the circular walk, not far from Peckwash Mill, at St Alkmund's Church, and the grave of the greatest football manager in history, Brian Clough.

Fantastic video, lots to uncover in such a small and seemingly unassuming area. Not bad when a mill is turned into a sole private residence 😮 I'm no football fan but I remember Cloughie and his no nonsense approach, I expect I read about it on my paper round , ah the good ole days.
"nettles, my favourite word" made me laugh 😅

Thank you, Gareth, Phil, Andy, and Jake, for giving us a walk to enjoy. Like to see when you guys smile :)
And also, I like the music used in these videos - something I’d like to listen to more. Who writes it? Steven in Dallas

That was a great vid Gareth, those photos of the train crash were, great and the story behind it. Great touch at the end to regarding Brian Clough, I regularly watch interviews he did. I think BIG PHIL was desperately wanting to tell everyone how much Man City FC have dominated and won when you pair were having your banter! Oh and I ain’t a mill expert BIG PHIL lol
