  • Hello! Eh Up! And how ya Diddlin!? In this weeks video, we’re going in search of the the breathtaking engineered remains of an 18th century industrial masterpiece, on the Derbyshire/Cheshire border, not to far from Stockport. This industrial masterpiece known as Mellor Mill, or Oldknows Mill, is a breathtaking example of late 18th century engineering. This site is incredible! It truly is. Me and Steve were like a couple of kids in a toy shop looking at this place!
Anyway, I really hope you enjoy this weeks video, below is a couple of useful links, including a video the Martin Zero made here a couple of years back
I hope you enjoy the video, cheers, Steve ❤️

Cheers Martin. After watching your video back, I was gutted when I realised that wellington wheel was carved into the rock. I’m gonna go back up soon. I really want to find the end of the tail race going beneath the Goyt. That was a feat of engineering in itself.

That were beyond words Steve (and Steve), an amazing place which I'll definitely be having a look at some day, just to take in the immensity of it all. Just imagine if the mill was still standing!
When that was being constructed the whole place must have been absolutely swarming with people, each doing their bit. None of them would have ever believed it would still be there over 200 years later.
Thanks lads as ever. The work that goes into these videos is much appreciated

    Good Video Steve,
What an impressive place!! The mill must have been enormous back in the day. It really makes you wonder how they managed to construct it and bring the necessary materials to the location. The shaft that would have attatched the water wheel is of some great length and the tunnels were amazing. This really was a great explore...😃👍🏻

Thank you Eddie. What I didn’t say in the video is that apparently bricks were made on site, and stone was brought from close by

Fantastic! Love the excitement and enthusiasm - and can absolutley relate to it! And I’m with you on the questioning the history we’re offered sometimes. (Totally not with you with spiders being dropped on my head though - eek!) Those tunnels were quite eerie. These old mills must have seen some things… Great way to enjoy a Sunday evening - thank you both!

Thank you Clair. These places definitely need questioning. Question everything I reckon! As for spiders, they don’t bother me at all, however if we were in Australia I’d probably have a different opinion lol

Bloomin marvellous Steve 👌A great watch for a Sunday evening 👍
It's hard to conceive of the engineering required to turn a natural resource into a powerful production plant such ss this.
Some of those tunnels don't make sense though 🤔
Not keen on spiders, but fortunately my phone's screen is quite small, so I couldn't see em 🙏
