I think a lot of people write these off because other primes are better, but the beauty of these is that you can get a 2-3 maybe even 4 of these lenses at 1.2 for the price of a single higher end prime straight from Sony. These offer awesome value for the price, given the range you can get.
Great review again Christoph, thank you very much! Are you going to test the other lenses in this line as well? I'd be especially interested in the 24mm version.
Should I decide to stay in Nikon DX by the end of the year (depends on weather Nikon will release a semi-pro grade DX body) this will be my next lens! Great review!
I wonder how this lens compares with the much-vaunted Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary? It would be a tough comparison between the two for sure. As always, great video Chris. 👍👍 Keep up the great work.
This will be like 21mm f1.2 on full frame (of course with 1.3 crop). But still, even with a crop halfway, if shot stills or videos in 21:9 or with stabilization, it should be quite usable. Cheap 21mm 1.2 with slight crop.
Remember that you need to adjust the aperture for FF equivalency as well, at least as far as DOF goes. And as far as ISO you might as well too, since FF sensors have less noise at the same MP and ISO.
@@TheMetalButcher there is always a difference when using a full sensor, but max aperture and iso stays the same. You could try to make an equivalent, but it just create a confusion, sinceyou want to compare the same field of view, while it's not, since it's a crop. Also, since it's a small crop, a difference is smaller than going to 1.5 crop from FF. 1 thing to remember tho, I forgot to count stabilization movement in, but it shouldn't be so bad.
I'd go with the much wider 13mm, nice metalic build with aperture ring, faster AF, much better close up image quality. Btw a new Viltrox f/1.2 Pro WR lens is coming but we still don't know the focal lenght, a new ultra wide or a short telephoto ?

It is crazy how they managed to make 5 AF 1.2 lenses from 16mm to 75mm that look identical in size and shape.
Super handy for gimbals and cinema-setups. Saves time on adjusting balance or follow focus setups 👌🏻
It’s super easy just make the housing as big as the biggest one

thank you. I am really surprised, as other tests I saw on RUclips were disastrous.
I would love to see your test of the 23mm and the 33mm versions.
That lack of distortion or vignetting is extremely impressive to me, considering it's an ultrafast ultrawide lens.
If you consider it's made from the pseudo cinema lenses, then it makes sense. I wonder if the nightwalker version has focus breathing as well
I agree

That's actually a really great price for a 24mm equiv.
Hello Chris, please do review on fuji 8-16 f2.8
Great review as always... :)
When can we expect review of Nikkor Z 35mm f1.4? :)
impressive lens for so little money, will there be a review of the 75mm f1.2?
Is there a plan for review of new tamron 50-300?
If this lens was £100 more than Yongnuo 16mm 1.8. Which would you get? Is this worth the extra price for low light recording (RUclips videos)

Thanks ❤
Does this lens compatible with the focus breathing setting of sony cameras?
Can you compare them with the Sigma 16,35,56mm
I wonder will this work on a Nikon Z5 full frame?? If so how much would it affect the quality?

out of curiosity can I use this on a mirrorless canon R50?

The whole 1.2 line is softer and the af is slower - tho it makes sense since this is more of a cinema glass with af
According to SonyAlphaBlog it's very close to the Sigma in sharpness, has better bokeh and handles CAs and flare better.
@drchtct after trying both the Sigma is sharper wide open, but the 1.2 needs to be stopped down to even compare
@@drchtct its worse in sharpness and af
This lens would be a great choice for Canon RF Apsc cameras too, if only Canon would open the mount for everyone. 😭
