As someone who didn't buy any advent calendar for herself, to find out we're getting a Sorted one is THE BEST NEWS 🤩
Omg agree but as someone who didn't get ever advent calendar (they are not so poplar)
@@moonbook12 same, it's not a thing in my country, but they do look fun!
Absolutely agree!
Yeah, brought one on amazon about tea for my sister
This was the 1st comment I saw (and before I saw the video) so I was like "I wonder what would be inside a Sorted Advent Calender? Some sort of spices or whatever?" A nee video each day =Best Advent calender ever!
Really appreciate the effort it must have taken to release so many videos in one month, especially with a live show coming up. It's great to have Sorted back on a Friday as well.
Our pleasure!
Brilliant idea thank you thank you thank you. And seasons greetings to you and all your colleagues and your families. Enjoy yourselves and most of all take care all of you bye for now and keep them coming. We appreciate it. The community loves this.
Mike being a good dad to Baz made my day
It makes me so happy that all of the normals are dads now. They just seem like such genuine, compassionate men on top of being hilarious. And it shows that they're dads in the way that they interact with each other now too.
“Hold still please. Thank you.” Lol!!! I too enjoyed that part.
Barry needs a new shirt/sweater text, 'snortedFood'😂😉❤ love this❤❤
omg, yes. maybe on a tea towel? snicker
🤣😆🤣😆
😤🤧
🥰
I thought you were going to say that he needed a new shirt/sweater with the text, "I'm Sashimi Grade". 😆
Point of order, balsamic vinegar skips the wine step and is turned directly into vinegar from the must after being concentrated. Whereas red wine vinegar is red wine that is turned into vinegar, which completely changes the flavor profile regardless of how premium the product is. You take an 8 year old cabernet, no matter how high quality, and turn it into a vinegar, you will get a product much closer to A than B. That last one was a pure bait and switch.
Thank you, I learned something! Always wondered about that.
I didn’t know the difference in process, but I did have a similar thought that balsamic vs regular was not comparing the same product.
THANK YOU!!! Not a fair comparison, I yelled at my phone, came straight to the comments and now feel validated af!
Indeed, it's a different product. I wouldn't put red wine vinegar on strawberries or ice cream. With balsamic you can totally do that and it's delicious!
Yeah, balsamic is not a red wine vinegar. This wasn't a fair comparison.
You know you've been friends for awhile when you want to warn your friend he's about to eat a fork full of horseradish... but not enough to go above a whisper. That was hilarious.
These budget vs premium episodes are genuinely so helpful!
GOOD! Hope this can help next time you shop ;)
Ocada and M&S are not really budget.
@@SortedFoodquick spinach info, my local famers maket lady recommended to keep the root stem (here on the premium spinach) in the dish, it adds a sweeter flavour and is also less food waste😊 (and is very commonly used in Italy)
Please more especially for PhD students who are moms of wonderful boys lol single mothers
I have to say Barry has come such a long way from the original Pretentious videos. He used to be all about the novelty and the expensive versions but now he’s all about the usefulness and actual applications of the products. It’s been awesome to see his growth.
And yet he's still a spoiled brat who hates to lose.
Nothing quite like having your core values being thoroughly and absolutely destroyed by your own inability to tell which ingredient is premium when put to a blind taste test to make you reconsider just how much premium/pretentious ingredients actually do.
@@KillinTime2792frankly id say its something everyone should go through
Aside from reducing the pretentiousness in the world, itd showcase actually good ingredients and help call out shoddy marketing
Jamie just eating a spoonful of horseradish is hilarious 😂
🤣🤣🤣
He loves his flavor bombs.
And Mike going "Jamie...Jamie....Jamieeeee". 😂
I’m pretty sure as he was shoving bites of the right side dish after taking off the blindfold (left side from Jamie’s POV) is him trying to wash down the horseradish.
@@OneWeekTimebut never really stopping him. It's too funny to watch that train wreck happen. then so magnanimous to let them take off the blindfolds.
For something like Salmon, ensuring that it goes through a sufficient freeze to kill parasites is important if you plan to eat it raw.
ALL Tuna is frozen shortly after being caught, because that's the best way to transport it to shore, so tuna is safe to eat raw by default.
It would be interesting if you did 3 price points. I often find that mid-price stuff is the most worth it, because cheap stuff is boring and expensive stuff is rarely good enough to justify the price. In practically every industry, it's the mid range producers who care most about quality. Too many expensive brands are more concerned with being fancy than being good.
This. It's basically a rule that for expensive products to be selling a name, instead of an actual good product, because for whatever reason, people will pay an extra 1200% upsale for a name or stupid marketing claim, and they will self-justify their purchase by thinking "its 1200% more expensive so it must be 1200% more better"
In many cases a "Cheap" brand can also be one of the better ones. I think the best general rule is skip the "bottom of the barrel" options, but don't go to high up the price tree. There are some products that do not have that option, but it works most of the time.
@@Ishlacorrin That's true, actually. In Canada, our biggest grocer, Loblaws, has a store brand called, No Name.
No Name just sells simple, basic ingredients; Pantry staples like spices, pasta, flour, beans, broth, etc. But because it's a house brand, there's no middle-man, so they can sell decent basic foods at a decent basic price.
@@Ishlacorrini think so too. Cheap brands actually have to work for the customers money so they put lots of effort and opperate on thin margins
Well known brands on the other hand put a lot of stock into cultivating the name and marketing and image but the actual quality is only so so. Not bad usually but nowhere near justifying the price
@@DimT670 The very best products get very little marketing at all. the company that makes them does next to no advertising. besides possibly sponsoring there very local sports club and a small ad in the very local paper. Those are more aimed at doing something back to the area where there employees live.
The real marketing is just in there very premium product and the work going in to it. the effect often that the brand is often only used by those that really search for it. (often high end restaurants)
6:20 It feels like every so often we get a lore moment from the boys, including occasionally being reminded that Mike was a primary school teacher. Which made the picture of you having to blow 30+ year old Barry's nose for him, like a child, hilarious XD
Never seen someone get Parmesan up their nose and sneeze like that. Great job Mike on the dad role to help him out 😂😂😂.
I laughed sooo hard 😂 as a parent you totally get it
Mike was a music teacher before Sorted, you definitely get practice there too.
24 days of sorted content, back to back?! Lads, love it, I'll be here to see the video every single day!
See you tomorrow
Placing a massive dollup of horseradish on the plate in a blind taste test is hilariously cruel - well done Kush! 😆
Tell me about it
Kush is definitely the type of guy who would purposely put that there for someone to blindly shove into their mouth. xD He's such a troll, and we love him for it.
Super appreciate the extra vids and the work y'all are putting into them, y'all are always a comfort channel for me especially around this time of year
Thank you!! Hope you have an incredible December!
That gnocchi dish on sidekick is one of the best simple dishes I've ever made.
Barry saying “I don’t like it” when Mike wiped his nose for him had me laughing🤣🤣🤣
Am going through a really rough time, and have been re-watching your videos on a loop to cheer myself up. The advent videos are a bright spot to my day. Thank you for this lifeline.
Sorry to hear that, we're always hear is you wanna pick me up!! Sending LOVE!!
Sending you hugs, fellow human ❤
May your struggles get better soon. You're not alone ❤
I wish you also all the best and hopefuly the Sorted videos will continue to cheer you up. I am also going through a difficult time, as a very close family member has been diagnosted with a deadly cancer. I try to remain positive about chances to him being okay.
Sending you virtual hugs. I hope things get better for you soon. Know that you are not alone. Thankful that the boys at Sorted are here to help cheer us up when we need it.

Spaf is spot on - and I don't care if no one sees this or that I'm late... the story you tell yourself and others about what and how you cooked certain meals is everything. Its the feeling. The emotion. The experience.
One thing I think need mentioning in regards to the tuna is the cut off the fish your getting, tuna like beef has different cuts of meat depending on which part of the fish it comes from. It's a bit like comparing a sirloin to a ribeye stake. Each cut has a different flavour, texture and price point. I think we often fall into the trap of thinking of fish as just one piece of meat, be it Tuna or Sardine. When was the last time you went to a restaurant and just ordered a beef stake without knowing the cut.
The whole Barry having to sneeze, Mike wiping his nose and then Jamie coming in with my bum is itchy. Is why i love these guys😂
The nose wipe to Baz was singlehandedly the most funny and tender thing I've seen in a long while. Thanks for the video.
I don't know that I would use balsamic vinegar interchangeably with red wine vinegar. Fairer comparison might have been supermarket balsamic vs the forum balsamic. (I know the bottle said cabernet, but it also said balsamic twice.)
Would be interesting with a twist to the format when it involves "prepped" foods, like the gnocchi, to have Budget, Premium and made in-house
I really appreciate you guys using sustainably sourced seafood. Having been to Antarctica recently and seen the impact of fishing, I REALLY appreciate your baseline for fish being line-caught.
A Sorted video advent calendar we didn't ask for.... But definitely appreciate. I love these mates work.
14:03
just seeing Jamie pop in with a "yeaah!" made me laugh so much, i don't know why
One of the best things I’ve ever eaten: gluten free, vegan gnocchi made by a chef in the mountains/desert of New Mexico at an incredible restaurant! I happened upon the place on holiday and was sad to leave because I knew the chef wasn’t returning with me. It was like a mirage. Tears of joy mixed with tears of sadness that I couldn’t have it again unless I made the trip. Guess where I’m going on vacation this winter.
Im continually impressed by Barrys clear commitment to regularly eating nice food, by how often he recognizes things like the gnocchi.
Guys you are great. Thank you for your effort, commitment and humility for this community. A video every day keeps our winter fatigue away!
i was just saying yesterday that i wish i didnt have to wait so long for videos because i like to watch everyday and i finished the backlog.... thank you. y'all are amazing.
You're the best!
@@SortedFood if y'all ever come back to the states, check out the BBQ, chicken fried steaks, and pies in central small town Texas (Strawn, Stephenville, Hico)
Spinach is one of those things that you can grow quite well in winter in a cheap hydroponic system with an LED grow light (or DIY a system). Even outside in a protected space if it doesn't get too cold where you live. It's something to do if growing plants give you some fulfilment.
Yes. I am an incompetent gardener and I grew spinach in a pot in my balcony. I stay in a tropical country so it is easier to grow them
I use a kratky set up under LED lights almost year round for spinach and a few other greens.
I grow out bigger than microgreens but not quite full grown.
Absolutely worth doing. And my husband did the nerdy math. The cost of my LED lights and set up on timers costs about $3 to $3.50 a month. We harvest more than it's worth each month in the winter to make it cost-effective.
And with lettuces, you can harvest just a few leaves here and there all week and have fresh greens on your sandwiches.
@@Emeraldwitch30 yeah, I will generally grow in my living room. So the grow lights are also lighting my living room. I do love that kind of light in the dark months. Whether it's the lights themselves or them reflected on beautiful green leaves, I don't know.
Yay on the daily uploads! you know it’s a good episode when you have to rewatch from the beginning several times to be able to watch without the tears of laughter rolling down your face .
I’d love a compilation video of funny moments. Like this one when they try the vinegar (there’s another one but can’t recall the episode currently) Oh, and when Barry freaks out with the black chicken mystery box and runs away “Get it away! Get it away!”, when starry eyed Jamie asks what is in the fruit roll up (a pickle) - he seemed so sweet and child like in that moment, like a child discovering something and trying to process it. But one of my all time favorites is when Ben sees that meat rabbit loaf that Kush made for the Easter episode! It was so genuine and cute!
This format is so great! Thanks to the whole team for so much content recently. We really appreciate it!
Either I’m dying or I was a very, very good person this year. I feel undeserved to such Christmas gift! Thank you guys so very much for this advent videos. I was under the impression we would receive just short videos, not full length ones.
From my family to yours at SortedFood, happy, happy holidays and may you receive all the joy you provide us, tenfold.
really intrigued with the red wine vinegar comparison. I've been making my own from ancient, undrinkable bottles of wine, or corked bottles, and have three 5L jugs of different ones, different wines for each, and one of them spiced up with herbs, thyme, sage, pink peppercorns and mint. I've not bought any in ages, but I might have to to compare. It's been a lovely pastime to make them(well, mostly being patient), and a joy to use. Without having a premium bottle to compare it to, I'm still confident it's one of the best and easiest things to make yourself, and depending on how much wine you drink in your household, it's more or less no extra cost. Tiny bit of leftover wine, chuck it in if you're not cooking with it. Or again, corked bottle, old bottles with nackered corks that are already well sour etc. I can only recommend it, and maybe you guys can do an episode on this one day! Cheap supermarket wine vs fancy corked bottle vs fancy bottle in perfect condition. Would love to hear Kush's input on how he'd go about this and what the opinion is on "spiced" red wine vinegar
Lol! Yup, Mike's a dad. Him cleaning Barry's nose was perfect
The food team totally set the lads up with that horse radish.
And that's why we love you.
i love you guys so much for this little advent calendar
Yay a Sorted Vlogmas!!!! I could not ask for a better gift. Thank you boys!
You guys must love what you do to give yourselves so much work. Thank you. I appreciate you and everything you do
Yes we do
Wow, what an awesome surprise. Thank you Sorted team for all the hard work.
Our pleasure!
As soon as Jamie picked up the whole forkful of horseradish I was waiting with baited breath for the result, while silently praying no one warned him……….why does watching Sorted Food videos seem to bring out my sadist if side!?
Also: his reaction DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! I cackled far to loudly considering it’s 1am here!😅😂🤣😂🤣🥰
Finding you guys in 2023 has been such a blessing in a challenging year! A video a day is a great Christmas gift - thank you from New Zealand! P.S. fave quote from this one - sophisticated palate my arse!
one video a day and a live event?!?! you boys are spoiling us this christmas😍😍😍
Thank you, guys! I learned much but goodness, those two are funny! May your Advent be blessed... looking forward to each video.
I love this particular series!
I almost spit out my coffee during this!! 😂😂😂 Well done Barry. You're proving you are a sous chef!
SO delighted I stumbled onto this channel; and getting an Advent style upload every day is priceless!!!
I love that they went different so many times, it's the best kind of videos! I mean the ones where they always pick the same are great too but.. the competition! hahaha
my favorite format on this channel, I love seeing how crazy expensive some ingredients can get but also love knowing where to spend my money.
Awww Mike's Daddy skills coming in handy.
That was interesting. Glad I was up at 4am to see it 😊.
I will be in heaven one of these a day.
Have you guys seen the Star Wars toasters and popcorn machines. Would be interested in you test driving them 😁
I can only imagine, and cannot wait to see, the chaos that will ensue over the month as y'all had to come up with more and more ideas to release a video everyday. Much MUCH appreciated!!!!
Thank you so much for the Sorted Advent calendar! I'm looking forward to watching all the videos.
Yay! Thank you!
This is such a great start to the Holiday season. 🎄
After seeing Jamie’s reaction to eating straight horseradish blindfolded, I would love to see a blindfolded poker face episode 😂
One of my favorite series! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic episode, gentlemen. I will enjoy seeing Barry descend into madness and Jamie just smiling into insanity for the next month.
A Sorted video Advent calendar…..my December just became markedly more joyful. Thanks, guys 😊
This is awsome thank you Sortedfood for this brilliant advent calender :)
LOVE that we get a sorted advent calendar! It’s absolutely what I didn’t know I wanted but now I want nothing else!
Re this episode: I’d love to see a “premium vs home made” to see the comparison between high quality premium products and “made from scratch with skill”. Would be really interesting!
As I'm not going to be able to enjoy christmas this year, this is the best gift ever! Thank you Sorted for this!
THANK YOU SORTED TEAM!!!

Every day! What a gift!! Thanks so much!!
The best advent calendar for me ever. Can't be more excited.❤
Was considering buying an advent calendar today, but Sorted has me sorted. 🎉
Loving this idea of a Sorted Advent Calendar.
Love you guys, thanks so much for the bonus videos
I forgot to buy an advent calendar this year, so thanks! Truly, I really appreciate the hard work and dedication this is going to take, and probably already has taken since some of them are probably pre-filmed.
You are so welcome!
If sorted ever made a physical advent calendar with 24 of the guys favorite things I would definitely buy it!
Thank you for the advent calendar! I’m cynical and jaded and have a lot of baggage about Christmas in general, but the idea of the sorted adventure calendar has got me smiling in a way that advent candles and calendars haven’t done for decades 😅
I'm a huge nerd, so I've made a habit of buying a box (30 packs) of magic cards every year and opening a pack a day until Christmas, and then the rest on Christmas Day. But this may be better entertainment value.
Did Kush have people thinking steak was fish at his Michelin star restaurants with that vinegar 😂😂😂😂
We are going to be so spoiled with a video a day! I can't wait you guys are amazing 🎉❤
Thanks for the best advent calendar this year ❤
Santa got my Christmas list!! A Sorted Advent was a long shot ask this year, but Santa came through! ❤
Never been much of a fan of gnocchi, but I LOOOVE potato cakes. They are both basically flour and potatoes though!
I've been in love with latke since I was in my 20s, and a lovely Jewish family invited me for Hanukkah.
The grandmother actually invited me to come to the kitchen to learn to make them.
I've since made them all year round and actually deviated from just potatoes in summer.
Not sure if you like zucchini or yellow summer squash but if you take a small one of each and a medium potato and shred them all together with a bit of shredded onion.
Squeeze out the extra waters/starches and then add the egg/flour/salt and pepper and a touch of baking powder. It's a summer explosion of yum lol.
My husband likes applesauce with his, but I kinda like a little horseradish sour cream with mine.
Sorry middle of the night hungry ramblings 😅❤
This is so lovely🥰Thank y’all so much❣
No problem 😊
so excited for daily videos!! we all appreciate how much effort this must have been. Happy Christmas!!!!
What a Christmas gift from Sorted! I rock my baby girl to sleep every night in her nursery watching Sorted videos. Knowing I'll have a new video every night this month is very exciting!
Thank you for the Sorted Video Advent Calendar! 🥰🥰🥰
Yay for your Advent Calendar! The only thing is - how we will miss it when you go back to 2 or 3 videos per week afterwards!!!
the slide forward method is AMAZING!
The spinach one was so surprising to me!! The average everyday spinach we get at the local green grocer here in Chile is big leaf spinach and I’ve found myself missing the sweet mildness of baby spinach!
A video every day?!?! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Christmas came early. Thanks for the hard work and commitment.
Best Christmas gift I didnt ask for but definitely needed. Thanks guys! 🎄🎁👌
Happy holidays!
