JAMES!! I wasn't expecting a James video until the Pass It On on Christmas Eve. This is a very nice surprise. (I imagine we'll have to wait until Christmas Eve for something else though...)
The simultaneous celebration by Ben and exasperation by the rest of the boys when Ben got the cranberry/orange combo had me in stitches. This was a super fun video!
Normally I don't care for the Pokerface challenges, seems kind of mean. But in this format, a game where everyone is equal contenders in, it is much more lighthearted and fun. This format feels like Sorted Foods own variety panel show. Seeing them all together experiencing, laughing, and poking fun together seems much nicer than one person doing something and two commenting from the side.
@@zeophen the pokerface 2.0 has no one on the side they are they can all in the game. The one form last weekend was brilliant with Barry bluffing them all for letting them believe that he had the bad version but was just bluffing.
Yay. Thanks for the Christmas present guys. Mr James Currie back with the Sorted Family for a taste test. This was so much fun to watch. We just played backyard cricket Christmas day 🎉😁
The Return Of James: marvellous! And Mike is becoming my favourite food presenter on any food channel - enthusiastic, incredibly descriptive, nicely arch but always got a grin on his face. He may not have won the Sous Chef Apron but Mike's an absolute winner in my book.
I know everyone is extra excited about James, but for me? The highlights are: 1) Ben not forcing himself to play token adult and just having fun And 2) Mike seriously declaring that they were making up the scoring as they went along 🤣
The way they are discussing the end of each round reminds me of discussing the answers of a final afterwards and no one knows what’s right! I love it! Thanks for the daily videos they kept me sane during finals week!!
I was waiting for them to put all the flavors in one plate and tried it out as a full Christmas 'dinner'. This was a fun video, and the people behind Granny Gothards are geniuses!
Candied carrots were a lolly replacement during rationing. They were pretty good when I made some for a village V.E. anniversary party a few years back. So carrot or parsnip ice-cream should be good. 🥕
Loved seeing James back and seeing how competitive the guys get. The whole video was hilarious but what really sent me was James at 17:36 saying "I could have said it was apple sauce and it's half right cuz it's sauce." He makes a good point there, but he says it with so much ferocity (for James) that I almost spat my drink out laughing.
A video a day is so amazing and i already feel the the withdrawals coming for when this is over. Thank you so much for all the extra work you have done to pull this off. Cheers!
About 15 years ago or so here in the U.S., a soda company called Jones produced a line of sodas, for Thanksgiving, with all the traditional flavors we usually have. Believe I would much prefer these ice creams!
Been binging old episodes I missed and have to comment the BEST ice cream I ever made. Oven roasted sweet potatoes [pumkin spice type seasoning[WITH pan sauteed apples[cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, salt] and candied bacon in a vanilla custard base, not horrible with a drizzle of balsamic reduction.....I think I'd like the cran - orange sorbet.
Hi James! It's always great to have you back on the show! This episode was hilarious and so much fun! Thanks so much for giving me something to look forward to every day! It's hilarious that Mike liked several if them so much, it reminded me of the time he enjoyed the weird flavored cheeses so much, remember the mint chocolate!?
5:57 Maybe it's a french thing but we sometimes take butter with oysters. So, dairy and iodine isn't unheard of. Maybe it works in ice cream. Still a challenge, though
The ice cream tasting videos are always so fun! Having them doing it all at the same time made it so casual and a joy to watch. 🥰 Also loved watching James experience the odd ice cream flavors and guess with the boys. 😄😊
Love it, this is the format I like, I get to guess while watching, opposite of the poker face 2.0 video where you told us. And better intro, no spoilers.
There used to be a small ice cream store in New York State that did an annual April Fool's Day ice cream. Some that I remember were: mustard; bologna; beef stew;
My Mum used to make a lovely family sized minced pie that you cut slices of, which instead of being topped with pastry had meringue on top. It makes the mincemeat just a little sweeter and more balanced for those who feel it’s just a little too sour/bitter but doesn’t sweeten it too much for those who like the sour/bitter tones. It was always served hot from the oven with either cream or ice-cream too…sorry for the tangent but Ben talking about leftover mincemeat brought it to mind.
Hmmm.... So how does that old familiar Christmas tune go? 🎶Rudolph the carrot-nosed reindeer has a big pointed orange veggie nose... And if you ever saw it, you'd even say "let's put it in a salad for lunch.".. 🎵 Love you guys....😁 It's Frosty the Snowman who has the carrot nose...
Will say minted peas are common in Australia for xmas - at least it was for me growing up, but we are of course in Summer. Although it is accompanied by roasted meats, they're just usually cold and sliced.
I've only been watching you for almost 4 years now. In my opinion, Mike has made the most progress of the Normals. I do adore all of you, though I crushed on Ben first 😂.
Loved this! So wonderful having James back to join in the fun, and the game itself was great - squabbling over point scoring, comparing tasting notes, and some wild ice cream flavours (makes me wish I was in the UK to try some haha) - lots of fun!
In India we make a sweet called gajar ka halwa or carrot halwa. We use red juicy carrots that only grow in winters. To me a cold winter's evening and a bowl of steaming hot halwa is heaven.
My family every year make Christmas pudding ice cream with the leftover Christmas pudding and brandy cream!! It’s gotten to the point now where we have to buy a separate Christmas pudding for the ice cream!!!
LOVE experimental ice cream flavors but i will always fall back to classics! Whats yout favorite normal ice cream guys? Mine are pistacho, vanilla and oreo.
I got the mint peas one just from the first look at it... I think I only ever had mint peas once or twice and both of those where around Christmas... but then I grew up in Australia so some refreshing mint was welcome during the summer heat.
I was thinking the orange one was sweet potato, but I spose that more a North America flavor. Mushy peas for the green one. And the last one looked like a giant frozen raspberry.
Cauliflower and Brussel sprouts are both cabbages. If they are cooked a lot they both release the same stinky compounds, the ones people associate with cooked cabbage. It can be very hard to tell almost any of the cruciferous vegetables apart when they are cooked that far. I'm not at all surprised that things like peas, carrots and onions which are naturally sweet work better in ice cream than things like turkey.
I’d definitely try the carrot ice cream. When I was in Greece a restaurant they gave us a dessert at the end of the meal. It was a carrot compote on top of Greek yogurt and it was delicious! My friend and spent at least 10 minutes trying to figure out what the compote was before the waiter told us it was carrot. I bet the ice cream would have a similar taste.
Goodness me, James is back and immediately you are arguing thirds of a point, hilarious!
All families argue over games at Christmas... Our Sorted one included. Haha
@@SortedFoodA classic holiday activity!
Of course he is, he’s a Scot. Ignoring a third of a point would be as unthinkable as ignoring a third of a penny when splitting a bill.
Normals: carrot.
Chef Ben : honey roasted carrots grown in Leeds on a West facing hill, during July 2023.
The advent calendar just got a LOT more sarcástic and ginger with James here! And i love it😊😊😊😊
James brings the love... And sarcasm for sure!
@@SortedFood That he does
“You can not deny it tasted of turkey” is a big dig at James, what a welcome back
The "Who even cares what points we get" nature of this video is the best
When James starts "yelling," it's so hilarious because his voice is usually just above a whisper. 😂😂
JAMES!! I wasn't expecting a James video until the Pass It On on Christmas Eve. This is a very nice surprise. (I imagine we'll have to wait until Christmas Eve for something else though...)
Christmas is full of surprises
would that be the one where the chefs are handcuffed?
The simultaneous celebration by Ben and exasperation by the rest of the boys when Ben got the cranberry/orange combo had me in stitches. This was a super fun video!
Love these formats. Just friends hanging out and having a good time. I know this sounds mushy, but I think that's what Christmas is about ^^
... And competitive games! Haha
I totally agree!

Great idea

JAMES IS BACK! THANKS FOR THIS! 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yesss we love James!!
I react the same way. We love our snarky boy
This is my favorite advent calendar EVER. :D
This one video series is responsible for providing most of my holiday spirit this year!
We got through most of the spirits during December too! Haha
Is Cranberry Gin your Christmas spirit?
@@gabrielstrong2186 Must be! 😁
17:14 oooohh James we have missed you. He's outrage at Barry getting points over him. Lovely to see your face and lovely energy again.
James' "No!" at the end with the points is one of my favourite moments in any Sorted video.
I like these longer videos. It’s like hanging out with friends
The way they were playfully arguing over scoring made me smile throughout the entire video. 😄

The pea and mint sorbet sounds like it would be such a lovely palate cleanser between courses!
This was such a fun video. James desperation by the end was adorable. 😄 Well done, fellas!
everything was soooooo worth it for "HONEY GLAZED carrots" with that disbelieving look at ebbers. god what a video. loving this!!!

Yes, James! Thank you! Early Christmas present.
Miss you James, great seeing you clowning around with the guys again.
Again the best advent ever is 24 days of you boys! Thank you🤗❤️✌️🙏✝️🎄
James........it's all 2 flavours
Turkey and cranberry
Pea and mint
Cranberry and orange
Sage and onion
Brussel sprout and bacon
Honey and carrot
salt and straw in oregon made a turkey brittle icecream in 2018. it was AMAAAZING
JAMES!!!! He just always brings something special the video! Missed him!
5:57 Maybe it's a french thing but we sometimes take butter with oysters. So, dairy and iodine isn't unheard of. Maybe it works in ice cream. Still a challenge, though
oyster + dairy = oyster stew. my stepdad used to make this over the holidays. delicious.
I had to check if I was watching a recent video or an old one. Nice to see James again! 🤩
He came back for Snow Way Out... And hasn't escaped yet! Haha
Don't let him escape at any cost
I chopped up my leftover pecan pie from Thanksgiving, smushed it into softened vanilla ice cream and repacked it for the freezer.
The ice cream tasting videos are always so fun! Having them doing it all at the same time made it so casual and a joy to watch. 🥰 Also loved watching James experience the odd ice cream flavors and guess with the boys. 😄😊
I’ve rewatched some videos recently, and this just comes out proving Mike is good at identifying ice cream flavors 😂

I love the guys, I love the food team and the special guests but man I do get a little extra excited when James is back for a video!!! Woo let’s go

So nice to see James back! I hope the no longer quite so new gig is working out. All the best, chef James.
Brussel sprouts roasted in bacon fat with a light toss of soy sauce is my favorite side dish anytime of year
I love all these videos with James and them this is great
The arguments over a half vs third of a point were hilarious, it's my family playing games 1000%
I love these around the table episodes. You boys are not competitive in the slightest, not one little bit 🤣
The best part was watching Mike enjoy a surprise while trying to keep down the vomit. Barry looked like he was struggling to keep it down too :)
This was huge fun!
Having James back for Christmas really makes it feel like "family"...

Love this episode with refreshing ideas of ice-cream and James in it! What joy!
Using a sorbet to keep your gazspacho cool and have the taste evolve over the ~ 5 minutes you're eating, is a good tip. I've had tomato and aubergine.
Being in Australia, and thus a warm summer from Christmas, this is a way to have a traditional Chrissy lunch without the stodge in hot weather :)
