Legend has it that a limited number of the 3rd generation 250Rs were capable of 110mph due to a mix up over gearing at the assembly plant.
I have a 1985 ATC 250r thats heavily modified and even with significantly higher gear ratio than stock, it goes just over 90, nowhere near 110, its simply doesnt have the power to pull it, especially from the factory
that rumor is 110+% busted
Nobody is gonna talk about how perfect that was when he rolled the ATC past the box and just missed the wheel?
Mine was clocked at 82 in the cane fields by a palm beach police officer
😂😂
😂hands down brother lol
not stock it wasnt dork
No way
Balls of steel you have @Charles Pierce
Your brave on that thing!! I remember those things getting VERY SQUIRRELLY I remember rolling on my first ride lol
Never under estimate the R😂
If you think you’re okay it’ll figure out a way to screw ya.
my stock 86 250r. 3wheeler.was 69..or 70..mph
back in 1994...never been rebuilt. .it would pull real hard against any banshee back in the day....1 or 2 mph faster then a stock banshee with aftermarket pipes.....mike from minnesota
Realistic numbers👊🏻👍🏻
I’m driving down to California to you bring one up to Minnesota, I’m excited
Change your sprockets ...get aftermarket exhaust ...38mm carb and fix the bent rear axle
No
Yes
It doesn’t need that shit to hit factory speed lol. It’s nowhere near as fast as it should be
@@Infidel858 yeah my dad's 350x can hit 70 with an aftermarket exhaust and a 400ex carb
People dont know...the 2 gen 250r is a 5 speed and not built for high speed!!! Note he said it lifts in ever gear...plus its stock..as for gears i think it sounded fine..take it for a ride where its mint to ride thats where it shines..want a fast banshee eater step to the 3 gen 250r...those that know know what im talking about!!!!
As a prior Banshee owner I can attest to this!!
It's usually the CDI which limits your revs. A 2 stroke isn't really designed for long periods of wide open throttle if you plan on doing these I would run it rich for a little more protection.
Always been a fan of the notorious 250R Honda three wheeler.. it's like it's the best of both worlds dirt bike in the front 4 wheeler in the back kind of like a mullet back in the day.. Ha, j/k. Anyway props on the Atc, throw some donuts on that sucker! ✌
Lol I just watched thaat
In High school in 1989-91, buddy had a 1986 R. That went over 85 mph, but it was bored .030 over, and he swapped sprockets out for more top speed. He fled a MN State Trooper by exiting the highway onto a logging road, crossing a river, and shutting the bike down haha. Successful evasion! But yeah, it was FAST and deadly!🤣
It probably needs a top end rebuild. I'd like to walk you guys through that procedure. You are skilled enough and it is as simple as changing a tire. Infest in a compression tester . Super cheap at Harbor frieght. Most of these were governed or geared to 78 mph.
the 250rs have no moving parts in the top end, but yes putting rings in every now and then can keep them in good order
there is no governor anywhere on this ATC, 80mph is pretty much all this machine can pull without adding horse power, but they do stack power on quickly with modification
If you have a torch with rose bud you should pull the expansion chamber off and burn out the carbon. It should be louder than that, even stock.
Only thing I can say about the air coolers like my 84 model is that I wish it had a six speed transmission. It really could use one, but two strokes are not meant to be ridden at high speed for an extended period of time. The fun is in the quickness! that power band! that is the rush about a two stroke. I don't need to sustain 60 miles per hour for a long period of time.
@@davehimlin2374 correct, all 5 speed until 85 liquid cooled.
I've never seen a 250r that weak..smh..that thang don't even sound like it has a power and.. should be standing up all over the place
Brian Jeffries looks fast
gotta keep in mind that its the air cooled model, nice trike
Even air cooled. It should be pulling much harder.
@Five hundred 20s i rode a 350x when i was 11 and weighed about 70lbs this was about 6 years ago
@stop reading looks can be deceiving just saying i own 2 of them and that is a weak one mine are top notch tuned by a man that we shall call the wizard if you know you know so yes regular 250rs they are very quick but there is a difference in them depending
I see that's the earlier air cooled version. They got a little better each year. Thank for posting. Always fun to watch. I wish I could do what you do.
Thanks for being a cool guy that I look forward to watching. The flooding here in Wisconsin sucks but yah know it’s Wisconsin
Ihad an 86 250r and that thing was scary fast
I got mine to 70. they are no joke
I want one
My wife has to give me my balls back before I get on any 250r😂👊🏻
@Blair Joseph I have an 86 for sale way to much to list but comment I will give you my contact info you think the one ob the video is pretty looking and fast you won't believe mine let me know
@@teediggy1785 801-593-1832. I'm interested in your 86 250r
Mine did 143 mph and had a little more but my 150 shot of nitrous ran out and the turbo over boosted at 23 psi and blew the head off .
Some kid legit tried to pull some BS like that with my autobody teacher back in HS. I walk into class, second day of school, and I hear this kid saying he ran low 10s with his stock Jetta. I quote "It overboosted to 35psi and blew up after I went through the finish line". I hit him with the "oh, you mean in the 1/8th mile?". And I didn't give at all, kid wouldn't take it, insisting his otherwise stock Jetta ran 10s in the 1/4 mile. I shut him down so hard on it he transfered out of the class two days later. He was the kind to sit in class, second day of school, with his feet up on a chair. I was daily driving a cammed LS swapped 78 Firebird I had at the time, lmao
@@excalibur3895 😆😆😂
69MPH!! just started watching. Love that Trike..
Wobble is more than likely a bent rear axle. You do pick up good deals. Keep up the videos also.
Wow its immaculate!
You should do a build series on it!!
Awesome. You should really look into getting a bigger carb. Go with a 34mm from a 85-86 ATC/trx. Full dg exhaust and run 32:1. Honda recommendation is 20:1 but the oils today are way more advanced you don’t need to run it that rich.
I heard the thumb throttles are the way to go on the big 2 strokes, they pull and then make you twist the throttle even more.
Anyone who can’t use a twist throttle is a noob
Wish Honda still made 250r and 200x
And 350X
@@schmidfarms1702 I was about to say
Yea!
im 14 and have a 450r quad and a big red 250, im hoping to save up and eventually get a sport trike, my uncle has a 85 350x with a 84 xr500 engine in it, hope he revives it one day.
bryan j Jones And CR60, CR85, CR125, CR250, CR500
The 20 inch rear tires are killing the topend speed.Stock is 13 /42 sprockets with 22x11x8 rear tires.
So I have a 82. Atc250r and stock it would pull the front wheel off the ground through the gears, it most definitely isn’t running like it should, cuz as I said even stock riding mine through the woods and on the pipe you have to steer it with your body cuz the front wheel doesn’t stay on the ground, unless it’s slick out an u are loosin traction but even still. Now she has a bunch of upgrades
He missed that amazon box by 0.00000001 inches
72? I was thinking 58. Probably way off. My old Big Red pulled a little to one side but unless you have something out of alignment or bent it should track pretty strait. Good luck with the build. Awesome bike.
Are you saying that tire pressure has nothing to do with pulling to one side or the other? I hope not because if you are your an idiot
a big red is a significantly different machine to this, there really are worlds apart
Seems like forks might be slightly twisted or bent from a minor wipe out... the handlebars goin back and forth
Probably axel
Now all you have to get is a banshee. But keep the 250r and the quadzilla great 2 stroke machines 👌🏻
@Badass Skeptic I know but he needs to keep it. Be cool if he has a collection
@Badass Skeptic he recently posted a comment, asking viewers if they think he should get another banshee
He should get a 421 banshee, they can make around 100 hp. My brother has one, it is stretched and will stand up in 4th gear
@@dpatt7503 facts. Hopefully he gets one soon. Yeah I saw that comment but he got the 250r now so who knows
Exactly. He needs to have a collection and dont sell them and than sell the other toys he gets. Idk if I had money like him I would make a sick collection lol
You should get a Cannondale and run a top speed test on it... I’ve run over 100mph on them with an HMF and a map so it isn’t too lean or rich
You really said “ put your feet down to stop it” 🤦♂️
Lmao dirtbike rider be like
He really dont ride... well on pavement
It's obvious he doesnt have any experience on a 3wheeler or quad for that matter. If he did he would never put his feet down on the ground. Not even when you stop or to climb off. Your feet just stay on the pegs. Now let's talk about shifting... you suck. I dont know what it will take for you to understand about all of this. You shifting sucks in all your videos. It's cool you have a love for dirt bikes and vintage stuff and I appreciate that you make videos to a certain extent, but you have to expect comments like mine because I know you dont really know....lots of things. Sorry, not sorry
Never put your feet down. Good way to get pulled under the trike especially with that twist throttle.
Only a 5speed , badass love honda
That's a nice looking bike I like that always wanted one of those too nice man
Trikes are sweet looks in awsome shape
i have an 85 250 big red and its hella fun
What else would of helped is the fact your rear axel is bent, I can tell you that from experience I owned on end bent the rear axel it makes a big difference in top speed.
U might be good on dirtbikes but trikes seem like they ain’t your thing man....
Did you ever get that thing to run like it should? It needs reeds are a carb tune (something). Is compression good on it? All of this has probably been mentioned in comments. I did not read them all. Should quickly go down to a nice idle though. Something wrong.
I would keep that one 👍👌
Proper jetting? Definitely get a tester a decent one is $40 and up
Need to find 86 88 with gold wheels rode the all an those 2 years where way more violent acceleration..
Never put your feet down. That's a good way to get pulled under the trike. Especially with that twist throttle.
My dad had a 84 Honda atc 250r and it got clocked by a police at 91
Stock 1983-84 250r atc top speed is 65 mph ///a stock 1985-86 honda 250r 76mph//// stock 1984-85 kawasaki tecate 70mph////stock 1986-87 tecate 250r atc 80mph/////This atc is just about right for a stock 250r but it shakes or wobbles flat spot tires?/bent rim?/bad wheel bearings?/Bent front fork?/
Looks like the rear axle is bent ..when you're about to stop you can see the whole bike wobble alil.
I had the same exact bike, with the same exact problem, no rear brake !
Take from someone who's been there, fix that back brake before riding it.
What about a Honda 250r quad top speed run
Check out @Morgancure he has a video
Not bad for an old 250 👌🏻🔥🇮🇪
I just bought me a 200x and a 250r the 250 needs a new cdi the 200 needs rear shock know any places around south/north carolina that sells parts for them
What year 200x? I gotta shock
you could change the sprockets to get a bit more too end. i’d say that was fast enough for what it is. setting psi on tyres might give you another 2-3 mph
Something is very wrong with that thing. My bone stock 86 would scare you. You gotta use a little common sense buddy. When you pulled out without gloves to do a top speed test, I thought, hmmmm snow on the ground, top speed test, hes gonna freeze his hands lol. Aa long as u didnt forget your helmet. Anyways nice 250R. Once you get her figured out, you'll fall in love with it. Now i gotta find ur quadzilla videos
Ride the 86 250r they have more power alot more. liquid cooled 6speed and higher compression much better
Liquid R or NOT should be doing atleast 70 stock
stock on the air cooled Rs is only about 55 maybe 60. Its all in the gearing.. not the power its making
It's an air cooled old 250r, get a liquid cooled 85 or 86. It will destroy that one. Common sense on tire pressure son.
it should go much faster than 65, the 84s would go around 72 - 75 from the factory
75 mph stock was reported by dirt wheels magazine back in the day
Nope As a matter fact dirt wheels did not do TopSpeed only three wheeling magazine which changed into Atv sports had top speed in the specs. A bone stock 250 R of that vintage off the lot will go no faster than 68 the 85/86 had the top speed of 71
@@ronaldtartaglia4459 wrong but nice try.
Simple Waze you are wrong
depending on weather condition stock maximum speed 71 nominal speed 69 mph. Don’t tell me I’m wrong you’re wrong.
76 dirt wheels
Hey I have a 83 Honda ATC 250r, runs fine in neutral, jumps hard and shuts off when you shift it to first. Is it from a bad clutch or something else?
May not be bad, maybe just adjusted
I have a 1985 honda 70. Great condition maybe I’ll post it up sometime
When I was a kid my uncle had 1985 atc250r and his neighbor had a 1984 and the 1985 was a lot quicker than the 84
i saw you drop your gas cap plastic tubing
You just noticed that about how a road is designed? It’s called a crown in the road. It’s designed like that so the rain will shed off evenly to each side of the road edge and not lay on the road. Who keeps dishing out the cash for you to buy these junkers? Are you going to live at home with mom forever?
75 was all they had in liquid cooled. 81 was top speed for the older air cooled with balloon tires. 45 hp can only do so much. The 350x could barely do 85...your motor was dead...its supposed to wind out to 10 grand. A 250 EX 4 stroke can do 65
modified my Honda 200 and hit 115 top speed, lot of fun
Those go way faster than 60! It’s more likely 80
its probably geared up a tooth to get 60.. stock is only like 55 on the air cooled. Liquid R stock gearing is like 70. Had an 82 and have a 86 now.
My dad went 120 on one with 18 inch rear tires with a a very bad leaky carb
The road has a crown. 2% down on both sides are standard.
Guy has balls of steel…
Give it a little tlc, it's cutting out cause of jetting.
What color is the label on your Klotz bottle, red or green? I want to order some.
Please fix the back breaks on the 250r I don't want u to hurt yourself bro
I'm guessing 64mph depending on gearing
This should be interesting it was rumored to get past 70mph out of the crate...
My GSXR750 has no rear brake. Limits wheelies.
Why is there no back break??
Wonder why he never shows him starting it or any of his bikes cold
Jess Schrock No one wants to watch someone kick a bike
Graham Vandermark it’s great when they start first kick. Doubt any of his bikes do
I think you have a bent rear axle. Could see the whole thing shake while you were riding it. Looks sketchy.
My 86 250r with some work was around 86mph
All roads are built with a crown in the middle for drainage brother.
Where did u get ur number plate ?
Do youn think i can put a gaz tank of an 83-84 on a 81-82 250r trike?
My friend has a Banshee and ate a 250r for breakfast so don't always believe what year about them being Banshee killers.
Not much kills a Bansh
Wrong 250r to kill a banshee.. the liquid cooled 250rs kill banshees
250r vs cr250 or vs cr125
I don't lie my friend.
It is fast, ATC 250r's are pretty fast
I got it spot on
I'll buy it if u decide to sell. I'm visiting a friend in Iowa soon.
71 72 is my guess
You should be hitting 72 miles per hour top speed on a 84 250R top speed on a 86 250R is 78. 84 are as fast as 350X 7072 miles per hour
If it were mine I'd get rid of that twist throttle
It's not yours is it??
Brian Gillespie run that mouth keyboard warrior nobody can stop me from giving my opinion it would make it easier to ride you have probably never even rode a 3-wheeler I've been riding since the 80s and I have rode with both twist and thumb throttle and thumb on a trike is my top choice
@@lukecombs5659 lmao, I've been riding since the 80's too BUD, but it still ain't yours is it? Haha
@@briangillespie5419 Need to learn how to stfu
If rear end Berings ain't the same, and bad it will not go straight
Love ur videos
Looks sweet
My 1986 ran 85 mph stock
Cierto! Los que son del 85 y 86 corren mejor que los anteriores!
I'm 9 months late but the 85's and 86's were bad ass. My uncle used to own an 86 and he hit 92 stock. The liquid cooled engine really made a difference.
Man that thing sounds like a honda civic
What year is it
That's about right bad ass crs from then did about the same it's the gearing any faster is pointless in a race at a track and that's what it's made for
Did anyone else notice he only got up to 4th lol I’m pretty sure there 6 speeds
It was an 86 with a 85 motor
