I remember tony hawk saying how yelling "do a kickflip" at skaters was a meme because kickflips are actually really hard and it was meant to be more of a tease than a request, but after a while with skating becoming so popular suddenly everyone could do one and sometimes people would actually be able to do it.
This is to say people wildly underestimate the difficulty of a kickflip, it may seem like a common move but thats only among experienced skaters, not newbies

Having to teach someone when you aren’t sure of it yourself is so vulnerable! Bad twitch chat, bad
And even still, I helped my friend ollie and ollie up obstacles first than I ever did because I had the theory down and sometimes an outside perspective really helps in figuring out what you're doing wrong.
Yeah, i thought that flip was very encouraging and having a friend that can suggest ideas makes the struggle more bearable, its a shame that ppl are overly opinionated 🫠

I was so invested in this! The idea was great and she made fantastic progress. The start from where she ended is incredible! Would've been so cool if she kept at it, or maybe pick something else, do a little every day and show the eventual progress! Like guitar or something

Success isn't determined by how many times you fall over but how many times you get back up. I wouldn't mind seeing you try again when the weather warms up because your ollies are looking pretty good for this being your only skating experience! Ultimately you do you and I support that. Also props to hanging in there when the chat was being toxic AS FUCK!!!!

As someone who sucks at tricks, I can recommend it still. You don't need to be able to kickflip nor even ollie to have a good time, just riding it well on its own can already be so much fun!

It takes time but it’s rewarding. My advice, don’t listen to dweebs who try to shame you for helmets or elbow/knee pads. Head damage is especially very serious and your health is more important than whether they think you’re cool or not.
@@Bee-ei5my i got made fun of for skating in knee pads and a helmet when i was young and still skating big parks. a loft of those dudes have had full knee replacements and split their domes wide open. meanwhile here i am at 37 and still skating.
a kickflip is really difficult theres people who have been skating for years and never kickflipped
She was a sk8r girl, he did ballet, couldn't be any more different.
It took me 6 months to learn how to kickflip, and a year to be able to do a really clean one. Trying to learn a kickflip in a day sounds impossible lol. Riding the board around and getting used to balancing on it for like a month or two before learning any tricks would be the way to go.
Edit: The dude Maya watched with the kickflip tutorial was Aaron Kyro. He's a pro who owns Braille Skateboarding. They put out "Skating Made Simple" videos starting from riding a board all the way up to tre flips. For anyone who wants to learn how to skate but have never stepped foot on a board before, that's the best channel out there.
Edit 2: Ricky works with Braille, so that's actually awesome that he helped Maya out.
Alveus has this skateboard as an Ambassador to teach people about the Maple tree lumber industry. Tune in next week to watch Maya chug syrup.

Flip hasn’t skated in a while but he knows what he’s talking about. You don’t lose the understanding and method after doing it. I’ve skated for 33 years and still do. She was making progress from Flip’s advice.

Justice for Flip, homie just wanted to help his friend kickflip. Hopefully you keep trying. I'm not a skater myself, purely because I'm a bigger man and I'd prefer to lose weight before I try to learn how to skate, but from what I've heard, being able to finally land the trick your trying to do is so exhilarating.
i hope youll try again in the future after a break, it was super inspiring and kinda made me wanna learn and not worry about failing

Skating is hard. haha but it's worth it once you get over the massive beginner learning curve. I think if you really wanted to learn kickflips you could relatively quickly if you learned more basic tricks/rolling around comfortably first. either way it was a fun video to watch. If you do keep at it make sure to get your first kick flip on camera. the joy that comes from landing your first one is insane.

I LIKE YOUR TENACITY AND PERSERVERANCE! I watched every minute of all 3 streams. I'm really sad that you gave up. I still think you could have done it, but it was definitely going to take a lot more practice so I understand. You never set out to get good at skating and you essentially would have HAD to dedicate yourself to it in order to attain the kickflip, but that just wasn't your goal. Oh well, GREAT effort. Great improvement honestly. Even those little wins are so warranted to feel good about.

I skated my whole childhood and it took me 2 summers before I was comfortable doing kickflips, skating is SUCH a specialised form of conditioning & muscle memory I think you did amazingly well to be able to ollie on your second session!

dude! you're a badass skater! we all had friends in our little skate groups that couldn't do things the skaters we looked up to could do. you went through the steps like a pro and stopped at the same point most people do. just like with anything you have to be a little bit crazy to keep going. the fact that you stepped into this with so much already on your plate and started landing ollies back to back shows your natural drive and heart lol. the first step to skating is just getting on a board and having fun, step two is getting used to hurting and having nothing to show for it, step three is being okay with constantly hurting and not being scared to stand over the board, four is playing with the shape of the board and feeling obsessed, maybe it's kinda weird to walk into a room or stand somewhere without your board, step five is landing an ollie and being able to do that over and over. you became a skater and you did it like everyone else does, most of us land our first kickflip accidentally, lol.
the first time you do something with your board and you get to stand tall after is a massive breakthrough. EVEN ACCIDENTALLY! those accidental tricks are what you build on and it never gets easier lol.
skateboarding freakin hurts and you're always gonna have those beginner bruises, but you're so close to a kickflip and i'm invested in this journey.
i believe you're one or two whole days away from your first land, and i really really want to see you do it!

You did really amazing!! :) It took me a month to even ollie & a year to kickflip. Skateboarding is a lot harder than it looks and it can be really frustrating to not land the trick. But it's really fun when there is no pressure/time constraint and it's wonderful for exercise and transportation! Hope you'll pick it up again at some point
