- In this episode of the audionerds podcast the guys talk about A.I and what they feel the technology is focusing on primarily. Is the culture of mastering the first attack of A.I? Will A.I ever live up to the level of a professional mastering engineer? Will A.I work better as as an assistant tool or completely takeover the engineering jobs? Lets find out

GIVE EM SOME MO
I love this podcast this really something our community needed
Facts
100% a threat.
When a former Chief A.I. engineer, MO Gawdat and one of the founding fathers of A.I, Geoffrey Hinton say things like "They learn better than the human mind" or "We find ourselves in troubling times" and "They're alive" has a lot of weight.
They'll take over everything, including the music production, human feel or not they will succeed.
The human feel was the argument in defense of visual arts not losing it's appeal in their early infiltration stages of A.I in the visual market.
Look at what A.I did to the human feel of visual art.
Devvon is definitely right about people liking AI artists and not caring about the human element in the future, cuz people are really out here "dating" AI chatbots in 2024 lol
Devvon is right i feel all it takes is an ai child show to become popular and all those 5 yr olds are going to grow into adults who like ai art in all forms of entertainment. Movies, shows, music, games, etc. It doesn't have to be a show but something ai will come out and younger people are going to accept it
If you think about it most kids shows aren’t even human characters, like it’s all animated. We’re halfway there throw in AI voices on the characters it’s a wrap.
15:12 XVOX Pro is actually solid. It's not going to "replace" your vocal chain like they claim, but it's definitely decent 👌🏼
Nah it def replaces a vocal chain for sure
Nectar, neutron an Ozone. They will change what ur doing. Ai is fire with human element.
💯💯💯@@ghostwilliams1866
@@DiligentVisionaryif it does for u that's great man!! Frfr 💪🏼💪🏼👊🏼👊🏼
I think the thing with AI is, it will demand that people think in an even more creative way
The generation thats born into ai technology are not going to know life without it. So they will embrace it automatically. I think the human experience might not be the artist itself but the fan community and the culture around it.
in case of a common musician, A.I can really mix and master his song to a point that is good enough and easy enough just to show a noob certain things that he can adjust to taste and balance alone. BUT the really professional artist that really want that big record that has a lot of instruments and and stuff, for sure A.I won't be enough. But imagine those new rappers that just have 1 flow and 1 beat and they just need to sit their vocal on the mix or those new post punk/rock LoFi singers that also buy instrumentals and just need their vocals to sit in the mix.
the thing with AI is that it can improve extremely rapidly... only thing needed is increased compute power in these models. We aren't far from the right prompt creating a grammy nominated instrumental.
Most artists and producers don't wanna admit that. AI is evolving at lightning speed 😅
2 issues with AI: 1 is that AI can't innovate. It can only do what it's been trained on, which means that if AI becomes the standard, over time, it'll be trained on itself, and it will level out and stagnate. That is to say, if we solely rely on AI for mixing and mastering, music progress will grind to a halt. Issue 2, AI is gonna be used and abused by high profile people to cut as much personnel as possible across all industries. Engineers are gonna start off using AI for creative solutions regularly, that's no problem. What happens when AI develops far enough that your clientele could say "why do I need engineers then? Especially because at some point AI could be training in the background of your computer without you knowing cus maybe you clicked a Terms of Service without reading and agreed for AI to learn your habits and sell that data to 3rd party companies. Again, AI can't innovate, but it can steal our heat enough to put us out of work.
Not gonna lie I know that producers and engineers have to make money and selling their course would be good idea, but I feel like the better thing to do if at least have one free video where someone who doesn’t have any funds could just watch that and be able to come out of a place and then be able to spend money on some thing else I just always have to pay for course sucks Let me buy a plug-in and get a free course.
The A.I. is over just because You cannot copyright the thing that AI has done. So that's where the conversation ends for me.
Bruh.... AI is the new Internet. To think that AI has no place in the future is just caveman thinking
I also agree about the Dolby atmos thing. Most people done have a set up to truly appreciate it and I personally find those songs to always sound super thin on headphones or in the car. Certain parts I feel like just get lost because most stereos didn’t have all those panning options
Tell someone who’s not interested in engineering not to use AI to compete the way I told a kid to learn to play drums instead of pushing buttons.
Not typically a fan of AI mastering, maybe this episode will change my mind 🤷♂️ LETS GO AUDIONERDS
In the professional engineering world, no, but in the home studio world, absolutely, AI is a massive threat to engineers. It will naturally work itself out where us engineers will get more work from people who truly care about the craft instead of hobbyists.
Side note, I hate when vocals are too harsh and the high-end or people push slate digital fresh air too far, then when they do punch recording you can hear the are going in and out of the punch. Hate that lol...we also need George T Music on the show please 😂 dude has so much knowledge
its so awesome listening to these conversations, as an artist who produces and engineers for myself and others, i appreciate and love the fact that you all create this platform // not only is this extremely helpful and very entertaining, but its also awesome to see and hear the difference in perspectives from DAW to DAW, such a powerful tool for learning 🙌🏾 thanks fam!!! im tapped in!
interesting conversation. But really I don't even think anyone under 30 is music lover anymore...
I totally agree with AI gaining on mixing and mastering more than producers
27:56 Yall WILD CD Jakes😂😂😂😂😂
This the first episode I was as wide eyed as devvon thinking "dont let lj cook!"
He is absolutely correct! AI will replace a lot of audio engineering functions. But, for now, they will not replace to soul of the music that humans bring to the nuance of creativity.
american people less and less care about their "soul" if you havent noticed.
this was a great episode, L jean be having me in stiches
I can see a bunch of A.I. artists Spotify highlights right now. Not even going hold ya…
It’s not accepted in our generation, but probably in the next.
DT is right lol.
just found out the other day LJ is Sweata😅😅💣💣💣
“If Domer coulda went to Target” is the most wild and realest funniest thing I’ve heard in a minute!!!!
😂🤣
Never mind.
“CD JAKES” takes the cake 😂
@HelpMeDevvon Not sure if you guys are aware of Phil Speiser's plugins, but AI mixing is already here. THE_STRIP plugin does just that. Put it on all your tracks and it levels, compresses, OTT, EQ, and mixing all tracts at once (and keeps them that way while you work), and his THE_LIQUD 2 plugin does that same for reverb. The AI built in has a typing prompt section also in case you wanna ask it something about the mix, its crazy to even see.
I was with you for every second up until that “George Washington was a top 5 shooter in American history.” Wwhhhaaattt? Where did that come from? What Google did you read bro? Lol 😂
If Dahmer coulda went to target?! LMAO 🤣 A.I. is definitely in a space highly underestimated.
gotta love this pay wall 😭😭
Auto knock 💀
@trollmaggedon A.I. needs to be able to just automatically eliminate resonant frequencies and that’s it.
Y’all needa get Mr. Troy Taylor on the pod #TTU
This is a very important take about AI. It's not always like Bitcoin or NFT where it's there but have a lot of rollercoaster. But something as generalized as AI, it has a lot of legs
6:42 Sidenote and Ill reinterate this again, there's an Anime called Carol and Tuesday that discusses whats going to happen in the future with music, artists and AI. Its crazy.
Yall Trippin It is already superseding Google. It has over 100,00,00 Users.
Bro LJ confused about the next gen and AI whilst using fruity to separate stems for mixes and mixing from mp3’s 😂 this is how far we’ve come
Devvon sorry I didn’t get back to you. I don’t do a lot of social media and I got a bit busy, and forgetful.
I Devon is right. We are just seeing the very very EARLY beginnings of AI. I think it’s going to be a lot more influential or impactful than we think but in ways we probably aren’t even thinking of.
Glad they are allowing "Abelton Guy" more time to chime in. I like the podcast a lot but they are always, I mean always, cutting him off! Every time he begins to speak Protools chops him off. Stop doing that and yall will be crispy. No hate intended just constructive criticism to maintain balance 👍👍👍
“I like my women, with real… HUMAN elements.” 😂
LJ ain’t doing nothing but saying what everyone else hesitated to say and if the algorithm flags it, they’re programmed by a hater.
I don't think AI will ever take over in creation and songs. Consumers are more attached to the person (artists) than the actual music.
IT DEFINITELY IS LIKE LEBRON COMING INTO THE LEAGUE! GAME CHANGER. NOT JUST FOR MIXING, MASTERING OR MAKING MUSIC BUT ALSO FOR OPTIMIZING ALL OTHER PARTS OF THE PROCESS.
"You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take"
-- George Washington
Dope show once again. Great job guys.
It SORTA doesn't matter if AI ever becomes "as good" as a human mixer/producer. Most listeners can't tell the difference between a "perfect" mix and a mix that's 85% there.
AI will train listeners to be 'good' with their style of mixing/production.
It's speed will result in absolutely saturating the market with AI songs and its inexpensiveness will convince all but a few major labels to use it (almost exclusively).
BUT, all of this is moot because the future of music is consumers making +their own+ (AI) songs (with prompts) and sharing them with their small circle of friends. The days of a million people all listening to and knowing +the same song+ are gonna be done within my lifetime. (Music +distribution+ is on its way outta here.) Your "radio" is going to +create+ the songs you listen to.
Shit is honestly sad and scary
definitely agree, that’s exactly what the lower barrier of entry for music nowadays has done; made it a more casual and common thing for people to share music they’ve made. Once AI gives non musically inclined people the ability to make music without so much investment (besides maybe a subscription), AI music will be a common and accepted thing.
@@OPENNOTES24 I guess there's a few different ways to look at it... If your aim is to sell music you made, then yes - be scared, because you're f'ed.
ANOTHER way is that music wasn't "made" to be recorded and sold. It was "designed" for communion. To be played together and appreciated in a live setting. So, anything that is not that is a bit of a corruption. And there aren't many industries, built on a fundamental corruption, that last forever.
Music is forever. Recorded music.. maybe not so much.
@@KeiiVice +I'm NOT saying this is you+ but there's a bit of "pulling the ladder up after us" in the "AI music debate".
We, ppl who use DAWs and work in the box, hated on the people before us who said that in order to be a "real musician" you needed to record in a studio and you had to know how to mic a drum kit and know the circle of 5ths etc.
Now, that DAWs are basically the norm we're NOW saying that people who are only using AI prompts to make music aren't "real musicians" because they don't know how to sequence a drum pattern or use Scaler, etc.
It's been a 'slippery slope' since 9th Wonder won a Grammy. And at the bottom of that slope is just flat land where everybody is a musician and there's absolutely nothing you need to learn to make a 'professional' song.
"If Dahmer coulda went to Target..." is crazy
I remember when every thing started going to subscriptions same like when people started financing phones, I can’t Fathom that everyone would fall for it. I say that to say, I’m sure there will be a famous AI “digital singer” with a scripted background and personality.
We're not too far off from a completely A.I. driven digital singer, since Hatsune Miku and Miquela has existed for a while now
New age artist, producers, and engineers are teaching AI to take the job. “Training your replacement”. Big money buys catalogs, feed the music to AI artist/ producer train AI via wanting to short cut. Soon no need for artist producers or engineers Big machine has learned
Agreed
After 22:46....I lost it...I am floored 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
studio one is here
I liked Devvons new idea on streaming platforms making people value music more that would be dope to see, but it will probably go the other way
Top 3 shooters in American history 😅🤦 I'm dead.
Shoutout George Washington Man Logic Gang
This podcast has been replaced by A.I.
Right now, the entire world is becoming accustomed to AI in every field. In a few years, people are going to depend on it entirely. At that point, Companies will
Have a paywall, it will come down to who has access and who doesn't. So regardless of how good AI gets, it's important to have the skills doing it yourself. You never want to lose control of your destiny.
Yeah and no from an artist perspective who is old-school like Tupac you wanna just focus on creating music not mixing and mastering and if your upcoming music not making any money to spend on engineering so ai will be the future for mixing and mastering. So many say invest in your music from a business part investing in music without the total amount to break in guarantee it would be considered as a bad investment as of right now the amount to make it in music cost roughly on min 150,000 or go viral through content creation which is hit or miss otherwise everyone would be hitting it big off it. smart investments plans are the ones you can judge the outcome 70 percent of the time.
Harrison Drum Flow does the same thing as subloom imo
ai is a threat to everyone in the music industry
A.I. only a threat to "mastering engineers" that just throw ozone on the mixbus and call it a day
😂😂😂
Welcome to "my pleasure bots nerds" podcast"
Logic's Mastering is crazy! 🤖🤖🤖 great episode!
subloom is 50 bucks now :(
Just saw that 😢😢 still gna try the demo tho to see if its worth it
Bro so dramatic 😂 like be fr an ai is crazy this ain’t it robot 😂
Love the condos heavy. All the episodes give so much knowledge and insight and just pure thought. I be thinkin.
I think AI will be useful as a tool but human element, class, discretion are all things to be discovered with it.
It WILL get better. The responsibility of the Ai is the thing that's questionable. Will it improve the industry of well seasoned producers and music lovers experience? It's def up to the consumer. It's the responsibility factor what's will love your ear, back? Will it keep the love of the experiences totality is my question and I'm excited for the ride.
This is the realest episode hands down, very lively.
devonn is right about AI, like it or not.
23:09 I thought LJ was going to say Jeffery Epstein LMFAOOOO 😂😂🤣🤣
Devvon is spot on!
the substance has def fell out of hip-hop
George Washington on a horse fixing his hat
Okay!!! The conversation just went random and to the left...got to roll out. But keep up the good work nerding out to music technology
Courtney is wrong ai fs lowers the entry to music. There are SO many talented artist out now that wouldn't have made it without the bar being lowered and ai lowered the bar even more. The average person can't even notice a considerable difference in audio quality from song to song that's not apparent loudness. What Courtney is talking about is more for us audio nerds not the consumer. As an up and coming artist I can have ai turn my recordings into something the consumer will play and that could get me a deal that's all that matters
Si will make the younger generations lazy but the younger listeners I think will accept it. When the young accept the older follow
I love when I forget that this is Wednesday and I’m surprised the My Audio Podcast!!
Interesting 🤔 I think as far as AI goes there’s truth in each point of view. I remember having this conversation when drum machines & hardware seq’s came onto the scene. Some amazing things have come from that. At the same time one of the reoccurring sentiments I hear is how dumbed down some of the accepted music is now . Kinda the same thing.
Auto Knock would be insane 😂😂😂😂 Studio One Gang WE HERE 🔥🙌🏿
Y'all know damn well we need that "Myhistorynerds" podcast because I was here for that shooter discussion 😂😂
Daaaaaang 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ the YT ads already, we not even 5 minutes in
Look forward to this every Wednesday!!!🎧🗣️
wait courtney didnt even get to introduce himself since my guy lj was talkin bout george washington nd the opps 😭
AI has potential to be a great tool but for it to completely take over may take some more time. In my experience, AI mastering has been horrible.
22:01 penjamin
These guys talk too loud and way too fast.
LMFAOOO
Yo, this convo is fire
i wonder what apple vision pro play will be in this especially with music apps
Sublune? Sublume? Sub Moon?
What was the plugin called? i tried to find it but i cant find itttt
Subloom!!
i just love this PODCAST and people
yo yall got me crying wit this episode lmao #CRAAAZY #AYO 💀
AI is finally here. We are all gonna feel it. Whether we like it or not... It's called change! 😅
G Dubb bust'n the musket lol
@helpmedevvon I just added you on telegram.
Ai can never replicate the raw and true spirit of a human writing a song out of emotions. Thats just my opinion, i just dont believe it. Mixing and stuff like that could be replaced to some extent because its alot of technicality behind it, not as much of creative process and personal aspects in that sense
I agree with you on this. Art is intertwined with our emotions whether a song is a translation of your emotions, trying to connect with others, telling a story, or pulpit from within a revolution. Emotion is tight interwoven into the fabric of what makes art important
Not to be that guy but a few years ago there was a wild craze for a AI artist called hatsune miku. I can only imagine what people can do now.
She’s performing coachella this year.
Hahahah Legend Episode 😂😂
The consumer...doesnt know if it was Ai or not! & really dnt care...if they dnt like the song, it doesnt matter if it was done in " Heaven ...lol
y'all it's barrier to entry 😭
This one was hysterical 😂😂😂
0:53 baby shark is a campfire song so anyone can use it. You’ll just have to change the music around it lol
yeah i was gonna say, i was singing that song as a kid and im 30 lol
@@KidGhost23 yeah I have a daughter and I’ve heard 75 different versions of it. Had to do some research lmao
Love the podcast peace
23:15 that was nuts 😂😂😂
