    The suicide scene reminds me of the scene where he gives apples to his colleagues, trying to be friendly. Maybe the screenwriter intended to make such subtle connections to emphasize how tragic it was that he died alone with a poisoned apple after being convicted and totally isolated by the society.

      Now personally ( only my opinion ) in my opinion a person shoukdnt be jailed for soemthing they cant even help . He was prayed and was a good man . He did not deserve the weight bearing on his shoulders of the time . He was going to jail for literally no reason and that was the code he couldnt crack. Nobody deserved to be considered a criminal like that . Personally I'm surprised how somebody's life had to come to an end like that .

      In an interview Benedict state while they did film the scene, they didn’t want his death to overshadow what he’s done all throughout his life.
      They wanted the movie to be filled with his greatest achievements and highlights, instead of the tragic fatal end that was inevitable to come.

    I feel disgusted on how society worked and how such a man’s life had been so cruel because of something as simple as his sexuality. It’s something that is frustrating to think about really, if the times were changed how successful he would have been, how much love and appreciation he would have gotten....a nice life...but the world was/is a cruel place and somehow the best people get persecuted..... RIP Alan Turing, you deserved the world, one that is much better than ours....

      I don't support the lgbt community, but it wasn't about choice in the 40's like now. If people were homosexual during Turing's time, it was because they couldn't help it. And Alan was like this since he was a kid, because he loved a boy at boarding school. He was born this way.

    Fun fact: Steve Jobs got the idea of the apple logo because he considered Turing a hero and made the logo an apple with a bite in it since that's how Turing died

    • @The_Daily_Tomato
      @The_Daily_Tomato 8 лет назад +38

      Sadly it has proven to be false. Nobody really knows about the original meaning behind the logo. Some said it had to do with Sir Isaac Newton while others said it had to do with Adam and Eve's Apple but all have proven false.
      Even the designer of the Logo did not draw it with any meaning behind it, the bite was made in the apple to make it clearly visible as an apple at all times and not a cherry.
      It's a wonderful myth though and i wished it was true

    • @The_Daily_Tomato
      @The_Daily_Tomato 8 лет назад +13

      The creator of the logo said as much.
      In a 2009 interview with CreativeBits, Rob Janoff, the man who drew the logo, reflected on the theories about his work. He dismisses Sir Isaac or the Bible as source material and, while he says he is charmed by the links with the Turing story, he says he was unaware of them at the time.
      "I'm afraid it didn't have a thing to do with it," he said. "It's a wonderful urban legend."

    Such a shame Alan was portrayed as an antisocial outcast when according to friends he was anything but - he travelled extensively and worked with many other scientists. Wonder if he'd be annoyed that we all feel 'sorry' for him?

    • @espressoanon3040
      @espressoanon3040 4 года назад +10

      I don't think he'd be annoyed that we feel sorry for him because he went through lots of injustices regarding his sexuality and in the movie I'd say he tries to be sociable and kind but is constantly ridiculed and mistreated

      @saintetienne755 4 года назад +6

      @@espressoanon3040 Well i think you need to watch a documentary on Alan where it says otherwise. He was comfortable amongst his own group of friends and rather sociable. He travelled widely too. I doubt he was constantly mistreated at all. Of course there was much injustice at the time - as there was for all men of his persuasion.

    fun fact in the script:
    - They watch as the papers flutter down into the fire.
    They laugh, and one by one they all join in:
    They FROLIC and PLAY as they throw every document, every slip
    of scratch paper, every bit of evidence they were there into
    the fire.
    TITLE: In 1990, John Cairncross publicly confessed to having
    been a Soviet agent. He was never prosecuted.
    TITLE: In 2013, Turing was granted an official pardon by the
    government. Approximately 49,000 other gay men were convicted
    and punished under the same code between 1885 and 1967.
    TITLE: The logo of Apple Computer - an apple with a bite
    taken out of it - has long been rumored to be a silent
    tribute to Turing. These rumors have never been confirmed.
    ALAN TURING (V.O.)

      When it comes to the logo of the apple Computer, Steve Jobs said in an interview that he did not know the story of Alan Turings death prior to creating the Apple logo, although he said it would have been a brilliant fit. In terms of the logo itself, the bite in the apple was only added for scale so viewers would not confuse it with a cherry.

    My grandfather said the FBI of this era was the most racist, sexist, and homophobic organization he'd ever worked for. He was a cryptographer in WW2 and his hero was Alan Turing. He never forgave the US Government for our part in Turing's misery. He said "The world owes Alan Turing everything, but firstly it owes him an apology." My grandfather passed a few years ago at 94, and spoke of Turing very often.

    Well I've a theory. Alan M. Turing's mother Sara Turing wrote a biography about him after his passing away in his memoir. She never believed that his son could attempt suicide and die like this. As we know he used to do work with Cyanide and also used to eat an apple every night before going to bed, her mom firmly believed that it was an accident due to his carelessness.
    However, at the beginning of the film, there is a significant scene. When his house was burgled, he covered his nose and mouth while cleaning up to protect himself from the undiluted cyanide that had fallen on the ground. He even warned the police officers not to come closer. This clearly indicates that he was acutely aware of the dangers of the exposure of cyanide.
    A son is always a son / child to his mother (who can be careless, immature and, childlike always) but reality is different. He's the greatest brain to design the Turing Bombe, the machine that automated the process of breaking Enigma codes at Bletchley Park.
    So it's certainly a SUICIDE. Not "ACCIDENT".
    RIP ALAN TURING. YOU'RE MY HERO 🪻

    I wish they kept the end scene in the movie where the policeman who convicted Alan seen him in his bed as the guilt in his face when he read about his conviction in the newspaper knowing he was helping to punish alan when he actually saved every single person in the country and then leading to his unfortunate suicide i mean the guilt you can feel it when he looked at him in bed, he basically helped push alan to his death with getting him convicted and the irony he thought he was a spy for the enemy and actually was the bravest man and helped end the world of the greatest fascism threat.
