    tyres ! tyres! tyres! I've seen normal cars(front two wheel drive) with snow (winter tyres ) OR four season tyres outperform 4x4 suvs with normal (non winter Tyres sometimes referred to as summer tyres although that description is inaccuarate ) on many occasions and it's hilarious to see them go by expensive 4x4s in little fiats or fords etc on icey snow covered inclined roads .

    I used to own Range Rover Sport which almost identical to the Disco. I must say it is very capable off roader. I climbed steeper slopes with much more snow with just normal winter tyres. The thing is that most LR owners make a mistake by switching to "grass gravel and snow" mode. This mode is when driving with certain speed on a slippery road. In this case when it is deep snow they should do with "sand" mode. The result is greater performance in the deep snow. Even more that this car got low range gear

    The Duster was not designed to beat any reputable off roader but from the price it costs, it's a very decent car.
    And if we consider the costs of maintenance I think it's a good option in that price range. If you can't afford a premium of course.

    Very gooood little Duster. The Landrover performed also good, but all its modes seems rubbish and did not significant improved the performences.
    Once again Duster proves that more money dosen't always mean better.
    After seeing how well performed agains Audi and now Landrover, I seriously consider a Duster for offroad expeditions. I don't want to weast money on feancy cars if they are not any better.

      @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 4 года назад +2

      Check out the new Suzuki Jimny if you want excellent off road performance for little money. On an expedition, your big concern will be maintenance and reliability. Yeah, these models of Land Rover are not about pure off road performance, they are a lot more about being a comfortable luxury car. It would do better with better tires, but as said, if you just want off road performance, you get that for a lot less money and with much simpler tech than in the D3.

    • @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20
      @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 4 года назад

      @Razvan J If you need to build speed, you want any car with a 4WD that is not only based on traction control with brakes ( they are too slow reactive systems and will slow the vehicle down, brake based traction control is good on slow action ). It needs either true diff lock, manual or automatic on the driving axles, or a good limited slip differential. Jimny of course as standard doesn't probably have any axle lockers, but I would expect the aftermarket availability for parts to be excellent in the Jimny.

    • @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20
      @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 4 года назад +1

      @Razvan J Torque vectoring diffs are very good, but they are technically complicate, and as a result they have their own type of problems (depending of which type of torque vectoring diff it exactly is). Manual lock is not brutal, it just requires driver to know how to operate it. With incorrect use and stupid driver everything can be destroyed. Automatic simple locks probably are quite brutal, there I agree with you that they probably aren't very good choice.

    Nice video. I've owned a Range Rover Sport HSE V8 for 14 years now (still running great, no issues if properly serviced), and I know from experience that the LR3 would do much better if set up properly. Lots of people who own Land Rovers ( LR3s or Range Rovers) don't know that although they are 4WD full time, under normal setup the differentials are open! That means that the center and rear diff locks who are electronically controlled, will NOT engage under wheel spin even if traction control is OFF. To do that, you must select Terrain Response program suitable for the situation. You can verify that and see it on the navigation screen if you select '4x4 INFO" on the display. It will show the differential locks and indicate when they engage ( Green colour or Red). IF you select "Grass, Gravel, Snow' it will start in second gear though. To avoid that you can go MANUAL ( by shifting the gear selector to the left) or choose Mud or Sand. Also Traction Control should be OFF , otherwise the power will cut out if there is excessive wheel spin. Remember always to turn Hill Descent ON, even if you are going Uphill. That would prevent your brakes from locking up when you want to go backwards (in REVERSE gear) and hold the vehicle under controlled engine brake ( LOW gearing must be used as well). Now, i live in Canada and i know that the best winter tires are Nokian ( i use Hakkapelitta 9 with studs), although in your case you could use a good mudd tire, since ice is not much of an issue in your country. My Rover weighs over 3 tons (3172Kgs) but it would fly over that hill when driven properly. Im sure the Dacia is a nice little truck as well. Land Rovers are still very capable off road vehicles no matter what other people say!

    First issue, the nokian tyres on the Duster are better than pirelli scorpion on Lrd3 in big snow conditions. Anyway, in big snow, tyre profile and pressure make the difference. I am sure that with better tyres both cars can climbe that slope. I got a Lrd3, 2,7 liter factory version( no tunnings for offroad) equiped with General Grabber 2 tyres on the original rims.. On low tyre pressure (1,4- 1,6 ) , no DSC mode, sand mode selected, and with full gas on 2nd gear, low range mode, my LRD3 will climb that slope with no problem. I always have an electric air pump in my Lrd3 for this kind of issues. Any Lrd3 driver will confirm that this car on slippery roads with high tyre pressure will go anywhere else then the road, even on low speed, i don't want to talk about sudden brakes.

    This isn't really a test of vehicles. It depends on the tyres. Did both have the same tyres? Looks like you had fun though. On a recent trip through Morocco with five Land Rovers you could see different tyres preformed differently on different surfaces. My car with four season tyres performs better on snow than my Defender with M&S tyres. My friend's Defender with M&S tyres slid into the ditch in the snow. The postman in his Renault Kangoo with winter tyres pulled him out. My friend had difficulty living that one down.

      Într-adevăr, șoferul de pe land rover nu a forțat mașina că cel de pe duster. În primul rând pentru că în primele încercări de urcare a avut DSC activitat și mașina tăia din accelerație și în al doilea rând, land roverul este mult mai greu decât dusterul și dă impresia că nu este forțat când de fapt, mașina nu apucă să prindă viteză la fel ca dusterul tocmai din cauza greutății proprii și a denivelărilor din teren.

    • @aurelianpopescu6408

      la duster are garantie la motor, la land rover - nu are. Daca sar pistoanele la duster, il duce la reprezentanta ca e proasta masina, la land rover ce sa mai fortezi motorul cand deja gafaie - scria cineva mai sus in comentarii ca acel sunet inseamna o defectiune a ansamblului motor. Si.....la orice masina de import piesele si reparatiile te usca de bani. Asa ca.... da, consider si eu irelevant testul. Au zapacit masinile degeaba (mai ales ca elementul esential din ecuatie lipseste - anvelopele allterain; nu poti cere unei masini sa urce un deal cu zapada nemiscata pe el, avand anvelope de strada), aratand un amatorism de mare clasa.
      Insa, adevarul este ca duster este o masina corecta din toate punctele de vedere: sasiu, motor (cred ca e 1,5 dci masina in test) iconic (atat de bun incat echipeaza si unele modele mercedes), echipare, pret. Bravo Dacia pentru ca ofera o alternativa cat-de-cat calitativa celor care doresc 4x4. Nu am vreo legatura cu dacia, nu le fac reclama. Masina personala este o Mazda 6 2.0 cd/2007 de care sunt foarte mandru.

      yea no, sorry to break it to ya bud and spoil your fun, but a few things wrong with this vid here. the tires being the number one problem, and you can see it in the video when the wheels spin and the amount of snow the tires kick up. also... weight. that discovery weighs nearly 3 tones and when its being driven by a driver who doesn’t know how to properly offroad, you get the results you get demonstrated by this video. had the driver turned that DSC off from the start and had better throttle control, the disco would’ve still struggled because of the tires, but it would’ve made it up a lot sooner. it would’ve also helped if this was the Jag 4.4 V8 Discovery because the difference in power to weight ratio in the Dacia and Land Rover are immense, both have relatively the same power but one is a tank and the other a wheelbarrow

    Dacia Duster does not need to prove anything else, in this video just opening the snow trail for the Land Rover "shame". He has faced great off-road stars like Suzuki Jimny, Rav 4, X-Trail, Shogun, Tiguan, Suzuki Vitara, Audi Q5, Audi Avant, Q7, Nissan Qashqai. Dacia Duster was designed to be an urban vehicle with "LIGHT" off road characteristics. But the desperation of brands that cost three times the model, lead to these absurd comparisons, but the model ends up surprising and doing very well. Good, cheap, robust vehicle that has no chronic problems like the VW and Audi line.

    I owned a D3 - the same as in the video. The car was a piece of sh... but the 4wd system wasnt that bad. However I also have experience with pirelli and nokian tires - pirelli scorpion are the worst winter tires I ever had. Toyo, Nokian are OK and michelin are the best. The problem here: heavy car, weak tires and you should have tried the "sand"-program in these conditions. Besides the Dacia doesnt have a 4wd "lock" - what it does in "lock" mode is, that the 4wd clutch is locking more agressively (but not all the time=100%) then in standard mode but it is not really locked permanently and the more you move the steering wheel the faster the lock opens in order to prevent damage to the drive train.
