and when the gunshot is heard, chris, jill and wesker turn to face towards the dining room, i'm guessing what may have happened kenneth likely shot at the zombie in the dining room, resulting in the pool of blood, but the zombie got back up and managed to sneak up on kenneth in the hallway because kenneth was holding handgun ammo, which suggests he tried to reload.
Yeah but you can also argued that when the zombie eating you he would be biting some tendons and nerves that can make your body twitch still even after being dead...

There is no chance it's Rebecca because she's on the east side of the mansion. The devs screwed up and it's Kenneth that fired the shot. There is no one else that could do it from that direction. Weather Wesker thinking it's Chris is because he's missing. Fun little video either way.
I always just assumed it was Kenneth, but the video tape paradox always bothered the hell out of me, even as a child. I'd wager it's entirely possible that either Richard or Enrico fired that shot, seeing as they were both currently alive at the time and carried some form of handgun. (Okay, Enrico's is a revolver, but it's still technically a handgun.) EDIT: Hell, it could've even been Rebecca.
Does anyone else find it weird how Kenneth, an experienced police officer, missed every shot on that zombie, meanwhile Leon, a rookie, actually makes multiple hits with a subpar handgun.
Police are trained to subdue, civilians typical go for a kill. This might be the reasoning why Leon (originally in the concept art was straight thuggin) would kill someone with ease because he’s not following the orders he’s yet to be taught. Kenneth probably was afraid of getting kicked off the force so he did everything he could that would be right in front a judge.

A lot of people say it was for an Easter egg (which was confirmed) and other people say that "according to Capcom" , he actually stalked her and had a crush on her. There're a lot of theories on it and I thought it was a small but interesting thing to look into! Plus I love how you go into detail and great lengths to research all this stuff and give your opinion and possible theories on this stuff!
Given the direction Chris whips around, I'd say it was from Kenneth, firing that last shot as he died. Rebecca would be upstairs to the left with Richard, not downstairs towards the right dining hall, where Kenneth is. But you did highlight a design flaw, regarding the multiple shots Kenneth made on his video.👏👏👏👏
Kenneth could've been wounded and stopped to rest there, leaving a bit of blood on the floor before moving into the hallway and being attacked (which may be why he fired off five rounds and missed, because I'm unsure that zombie would've still gotten him if he got five hits in while running away) or the zombie that attacked originally died and turned in that spot, and followed Kenneth into the hallway, and the blood is leftover from its corpse resting there.
My primary argument against Rebecca as given is that Yarn is located in the East Wing upstairs, not the West Wing of the mansion. Everyone in STARS would be experienced enough to know which direction a shot originated from, yet *everyone* turns to the West, not the East. In the original release you could argue Rebecca, since she was located in the West Wing Medical Room on the 1st floor, which would be in the correct direction. It's also possible (if you take the events of Umbrella Chronicles as being mostly factual even though they are now non-cannon for various reasons) the shot heard was during the initial Rebecca/Richard battle with Yarn, which was a running battle that did partially take place in the West Wing of the Mansion.
The real question is, what was Chris' plan going to investigate the gunshot alone? All he had on him was a knife and for all they knew the shooter could very well be hostile. Also, how did Rebecca and Richard get in the room where you find them? It is a dead end behind a locked door. Also an observation, it is a big house but just one bathroom. The people sleeping in Deer Room bedrooms would need to go down the stairs and down two hallways to use the bathroom at night and the poor dog keeper is on the other side of the house.
Kenneth looked like he was still alive(barely of course) during the cutscene, also too fresh for it to have been 2 hours after the tape. Most likely it’s just a continuity error or the shot could’ve come from Rebecca and his tape could’ve been shortly before Alpha team entered the mansion
There is the matter of one minor detail. Yawn, Rebecca, and Richard are located on the second floor library. The STARS members face directly toward Kenneth's location on the first floor and not upwards. There is also the matter of the length of the dialog between the STARS members once they entered the mansion. According to your theory, they would have heard the other two gun shots upon arrival. The gun shot is undoubtedly a development error. Mystery solved.
I believe the developers meant the first shot to lure you into the room beyond the dining room. HOWEVER!! this was a great topic and a ton of fun to watch. I mean Rebecca makes perfect sense too... Its just a question of if the writers were good enough to place her there. Thanks nacho!
I'll also go for your Rebecca gunshot theory. Sure, Rebecca shot Yawn 3 times, but what if her first 2 shot was covered by the sound of lightning and everyone heard her third shot? And plus, Kenneth's gunshot sound does not match what we heard in the main hall when we saw his VHS before his death. You are right about that rebecca thing because richard was still alive when stars go in the mansion, he dies a little after that so he got bite just recently. That still that, the shot was coming from diner way. That wii game snake is in the library but in orginal and remake re1 its in the attic first and so is richard.
I'm going with Chris/Barry. We see in the opening scene that they can run out of bullets, with Jills handgun running out. Chris does have a gun outside. So maybe in Jill's scenario Chris doesn't make it in, one shots a dog with his last bullet and that's what we hear. We "check it out" Weaker runs outside to kidnap Chris. Chris' scenario will be in the comments.
In Chris's scenario, Barry is the gun shot we hear. Barry's family is held hostage, so Barry must do everything Wesker says. So maybe Barry's job is to help separate Chris from Jill and Wesker. Wesker "kidnaps" Jill, leaving her gun (on purpose or by accident) in the room.
I could be wrong but I could have sworn there was a theory that Kenneth was given blank rounds for his handgun, making it look like he couldn’t handle one zombie. But that wouldn’t make sense because they wanted to record data on STARS Members against BOW’s. So this had to be maybe a surprise attack and fear combined for him, he was probably also the oldest member there and more of a chemist worker than a fighter, so it did say he was confused or something on why Wesker recruited him in the first place. God I love the lore. Imagine if Bravo team actually survived with Alpha team.
It’s Kenneth. The video tape was not in the original RE, which explains the difference between number of shots. There is no shortage of continuity errors in this game. It could be Chris if you want it to be, but we all know it’s Kenneth But in my headcanon, Chris makes it into the house before Jill and explores the west side while Jill unlocks and explores the doors on the east side. They more or less share the major puzzles without ever running into each other until one of them is captured. In my headcanon, Chris gets captured when he bumps into Wesker after his Plant 42 boss fight, probably along with Rebecca. This makes it where you can play both campaigns and, while they still conflict, it maintains most of the cutscenes with Chris and Rebecca and Jill and Barry. Rebecca and Barry should both survive canonically, so I like to think all the things they do to help the player (Rebecca healing Chris’ wounds, Jill gets more/better weapons because her sidekick Barry is the “weapons expert”) is canon. This works with Chris exploring west side first and Jill east side because Jill runs into Barry who saves her from the trap on the east side and Chris and Rebecca play the piano/heal Chris’ wounds on the west side
i think you may have over looked the distance between both areas in the mansion and how the shot would sound coming from upstairs , and coming from the same floor , but it sounds spot on when ur rolling the umbrella chronicles story to RE1 remake.
I still think it's Kenneth, but for his cutscene he should have just shouted for the zombie to stop, then shot the one round, then sort of freeze in disbelief when the zombie doesn't go down, leaving the zombie to do his work.
An easy way to tell who fired the shot is the sound effects of firing a weapon in game as the Wii could have reused sound bits from the remake and they both run on the same engine
Since Kenneth likely died before alpha team arrived, it couldn't have been him. If it was Kenneth, they would have heard the number of other shots he was able to get off and the screams as seen in his recording. At this point it could be Enrico or Rebecca firing at something.
Enrico Marini ! He is still alive at this time. Nobody knows where he is because he is injured in the cave but much later when Wesker shoots him. In theory, it could very well be around ....
Well right around that time he was supposedly down in NEST/Umbrella's secret lab under the city, at least that's what it shows towards the end of Resident Evil 0...
Indeed at one point he crosses paths with Rebecca in this place and we never see him again in RE0. But we find rebbeca in the mansion has a few rooms of the heroes, so why not him? All we know is that he gets shot later.
I honestly think it was Kenneth, at least in the remake, because he was still twitching while being eaten. Yeah sure, we only heard one shot in the beginning and this was just a goof by the developers, who forgot they only put one shot in the first part of the game, and Forrest was way too far away for the shot to have been that loud, but I'm happy to watch and hear your thoughts on it! Texas Gent totally agree, if the remake scene is accurate then Kenneth was still twitching while being eaten by that first zombie so to me this meant he was alive but being pursued as we entered the mansion ... also if they were chased into the mansion by the Cerberus like Chris and co were then why the ever-loving *squee* would they think it was a good idea to split up? Oh well. Also nearly 2 decades of RE and I’m still waiting for the Zombie Chihuahua ... c’mon we‘ve had zombified Sharks, Leeches, Spiders, Lions, even an Elephant and a (dead) Whale! Unless the little critters are somehow immune I want my Zombie Chihuahua dammit! ... Well that or a Zombie Parrot screaming it’s owner’s last words (or obscenities) while it attacks! Probably the channel I love most for this type of stuff. Been following ya since RE7. Wish you had more of a following. Might be a good thing, less pressure, can interact with community more but a bigger following also means more money which you also deserve.
It makes sense it was Rebecca because by the time you get to Richard he is still alive. You would die very quickly if that happened to you, basically the same amount of time it takes to get to him.
I think Rebecca is a good guess. Considering she is the only one not present in both intro cutscenes for Jill and Chris. Another theory I would add is maybe Barry shot Kenneth to aid in his demise.
The game was made before the book sd perrys umbrella conspiracys and the creators have said the book is lore . In the book Jill's run is cannon and its chris redfield shooting a zombie hes in the room the shield door is open he goes in and meets a zombie the door closes behind him the shield door i think its the same corridor were you find Kenneth and he shoots the zombie and can't open the door to get back in the corridor thats when jill and Barry go and investigate love those books and love the games I was 5 years old playing those games im 32 now and still loving them cant wait till September to see how the reboot resident evil film is
To be fair, it's very likely that it's supposed to be Kenneth shooting and they just screwed up with the cutscene in the remake. I mean... after the shot is fired the characters even turn into the direction where Kenneth is.
During the scene where Kenneth is being eaten, his blood is dripping off of the zombie's mouth. That means his death had to be pretty recent. Blood pools to the lowest part of the body within a few hrs after death and becomes a big ol block of jell-o.
Barry can't be the one who shot because he's using a colt python/high caliber revolver which is that freaking loud that you should hear it from miles away and it would've sounded different. Rebecca dragging Richard from the library to the corridor to the attic, which is on the other side of the house doesn't make sense. You don't move an injured and poisoned person from a to b without good reason. Especially if you don't know were or if you can find an antidot or other medical equipment. That's unnecessary stress which weakens the patient and causes additional damage. Bandages are useless against poison and someone who's trained in emergency medicine like Rebecca would never do something like that, which means her part in Umbrella Chronicles can't be canon. I have a very simple theory: Kenneth firing 5 shots looks more realistic than simply shooting one time and waiting for the zombie to kill him. Capcom just forgot that you can hear only one shot from the main hall. It's a mistake made by Capcom. Kenneth encountering a zombie for the first time is also unlikely because he, Forest and Richard managed to reach the mansion and according to Edward the forest is full of zombies and monsters. Which means that Kenneth must have fought at least one zombie or cerberus in order to arrive at the mansion. Since there's blood on the floor in the dining room, Kenneth must've been injured when he entered. Since Barry didn't find any other signs of a fight (bullet casings, bullet holes etc.), Kenneth must've been supprised by the zombie shortly after entering the corridor and since he was allready injured and maybe almost out of ammo he paniced, missed the zombie and died. Fear, especially the fear of certain death, makes you think irrationally and that's were you make exactly those mistakes you want to avoid. Since Kenneth's body still twitches and looks like it's still warm when you encounter the zombie, Kenneth died only a few minutes ago. Hearing Rebecca's shot doesn't seem to be very likely if you play Jill's story because Rebecca doesn't show up in that case. Richard can't be the one who shot, because he encountered the snake in the attic, which is on the opposite site on the second floor and why should he use a pistol if he had his shotgun and still some ammo left? Forest is allready dead at this point and his body looks like he died a while ago because he's turning into a zombie, which makes a body decompose pretty fast and if you go further Forest while rise and attack you as a zombie which basicly proves my point. For me it's pretty clear: Kenneth's tape showing him firing 5 shots was done to make it look more realistic and plausible and Capcom simply forgot that you can hear only one shot. Kenneth was allready injured, when he entered the dining room, which is hinted by the blood on the floor, the zombie supprised him in the corridor, Kenneth paniced, missed his last shot, the fear of imminent death made him fail to realice that there's a door behind him (in the remake. In the original he stood with his back against a wall), was basicly paraliced by fear and the zombie did the rest.
but the way they turn towards the Dining Room door... well i dunno, the Library as in that wing too, but two stories up. that shot had to come from around the dining room.
If it was Rebecca then when the gunshot was fired they would have faced the opposite side of the main hall. They specifically all turned to face in the direction of the dining room, showing that it came from that direction

Best crackpot theory you’ll ever read: It wasn’t actually a gunshot but instead it was Ashley screaming “Leon! Help!” We only assume it was a gunshot because it was super fucking loud.
Perhaps Billy Coen arrived at the mansion after Resident Evil 0 and the shot is of his making maybe to himself after getting bitten and that is why we do not see him in other games.

Well I've always thought it was Kenneth due to the first thing you do is "investigate" the gunshot, which leads you to your first encounter with a zombie. As Jill, Wesker tells you to investigate suggesting it could be Chris, which would make sense as they team has been split up, with the team "unsure" what's happened to him, they'd assume any signs of life would be him as they have no idea Bravo team is also in the mansion (Obviously Wesker and Barry were a bit more clued up, but i'm not sure at this moment in time they knew where Chris was themselves?, they literally just ran to the door, then when you split up then they crack on with their evil deeds?, I can't actually remember it's been a while). Then as you play as Chris, when they hear the Gunshot , he mentioned that he will go check.....which leads him directly to Kenneth as well. Both of these are in the original Resi 1 BTW. Also if my memory is correct the attic which Yawn is in, is on the right side of the mansion whereas your character literally looks to the left when they hear the gunshot. Although I do like the Rebecca Theory !
It's a shot from Kenneth though. They got confused with the progression of the events (especially with the remake and that video recording from Kenneth), but both the blood and the shot were supposed to be from Kenneth's encounter with that zombie.
Maybe he pressed play on the recorder while still running away and previously got bitten in the dining room before going to the room he gets killed off in?
My theory is that depending what character you choose is the one giving the shoot (if you choose Chris Jill shooted, if you choose Jill then Chris shooted)
It could have been an oversight of the developers. But, in order to make sense out of everything, perhaps Enrico and Kenneth were together initially. That Zombie could have initially attacked Enrico first...After all, he did have that wound when running into him later in the game. He was probably behind Kenneth, shouted something to the effect of “heads up” but Enrico himself ducked into the dining room. Therefore the blood found in the dining room. According to Kenneths video, it can easily be assumed that the zombie is teeter tottering around the door that leads to the dining room, but then focuses his attention on Kenneth. Kenneth fires at Zombie, meanwhile Enrico is probably listening to all the commotion from dining room, hoping that Kenneth neutralized the situation because maybe Enrico only has about 1 or 2 shots left in his weapon for all we know. Enrico goes back out into hallway to investigate. Unfortunately Kenneth didn’t win. Enrico fires into the darkness where the zombie is eating Kenneth, maybe hoping that Kenneth still has a chance at survival, but soon realizes it’s too late, so he then proceeds down the hall without looking back, and tries to find another location in the mansion to lay low for the time being. Idk, just kind of going by the seat of my pants here.

in regards to Kenneth, couldn't the shots on the tape have happened just seconds prior to the Alpha team entering the mansion? Then the single shot could have still been Kenneth, but in death spasms as the zombie munched on his nerves. Although with your evidence from Umbrella Chronicles, Rebecca seems more likely.
So here is a theory.. still think it is Kenneth but he shot the zombie 3 times prior to the team entering the hallway. He survived this long by hiding and was surprised by the zombie in the hallway. His final shot was because the gun was in his hand an dhis body was twitching when you find it so he was already getting munched and he constricted and shot as he was being eaten when they came in and his camera broje
I def dig an in-depth investigation into anything involving the lore and mystery of the first few RE titles, but I do believe that kenneth was most likely killed just as Alpha had arrived to the mansion, most notably due to the fact that when you encounter the zombie munching on him, Kenneths face can be seen still twitching and spasming, signaling the early signs of his brain shutting down due to the illicit trauma and blood loss suffered from being eaten. Also just to point out, I seriously doubt those spasms could indicate that him reanimating (in case anyone wanted to counteract with that). Now had they stuck with the og ps1 kenneth death where it was eating his decapitated head, then I'd buy into the notion that he might have died before alpha arrived. As far as that gunshot tho I'm still willing to consider the notion it was some other bravo...

It was Rebbeca. Instead of grabbing the first aid in her pouch she accidentally pulls the trigger on her hand gun. She is still pumped up from her side mission from RE Zero

Most people would think it was kenneth, but we have no proof it was him, it also could have been Rebecca or Enrico but we have no proof of them as well, it's a great mystery to keep us thinking 🤔
I love these videos so much. I played rev 2 and i have a theory. (I also play REsistance a lot on ps4 using alex wesker.) I think she has to be in RE8. She was toying with immortality and probably figured out some sort of sacrifice in order to stay young. Think of her Yate Veyo research and think of Natalia in Revelations 2. Kenneth could've been wounded and stopped to rest there, leaving a bit of blood on the floor before moving into the hallway and being attacked (which may be why he fired off five rounds and missed, because I'm unsure that zombie would've still gotten him if he got five hits in while running away) or the zombie that attacked originally died and turned in that spot, and followed Kenneth into the hallway, and the blood is leftover from its corpse resting there.
My primary argument against Rebecca as given is that Yarn is located in the East Wing upstairs, not the West Wing of the mansion. Everyone in STARS would be experienced enough to know which direction a shot originated from, yet *everyone* turns to the West, not the East.
In the original release you could argue Rebecca, since she was located in the West Wing Medical Room on the 1st floor, which would be in the correct direction. It's also possible (if you take the events of Umbrella Chronicles as being mostly factual even though they are now non-cannon for various reasons) the shot heard was during the initial Rebecca/Richard battle with Yarn, which was a running battle that did partially take place in the West Wing of the Mansion.
The real question is, what was Chris' plan going to investigate the gunshot alone? All he had on him was a knife and for all they knew the shooter could very well be hostile. Also, how did Rebecca and Richard get in the room where you find them? It is a dead end behind a locked door. Also an observation, it is a big house but just one bathroom. The people sleeping in Deer Room bedrooms would need to go down the stairs and down two hallways to use the bathroom at night and the poor dog keeper is on the other side of the house.
Most likely Kenneth because the shot was a few minutes before chris or jill find out that Kenneth was eaten by a zombie.
Kenneth looked like he was still alive(barely of course) during the cutscene, also too fresh for it to have been 2 hours after the tape. Most likely it’s just a continuity error or the shot could’ve come from Rebecca and his tape could’ve been shortly before Alpha team entered the mansion

There is the matter of one minor detail. Yawn, Rebecca, and Richard are located on the second floor library. The STARS members face directly toward Kenneth's location on the first floor and not upwards. There is also the matter of the length of the dialog between the STARS members once they entered the mansion. According to your theory, they would have heard the other two gun shots upon arrival. The gun shot is undoubtedly a development error. Mystery solved.
I prefer your theory for rebecca, it sounds better than just an oversight by the develepor's part.
I believe the developers meant the first shot to lure you into the room beyond the dining room. HOWEVER!! this was a great topic and a ton of fun to watch. I mean Rebecca makes perfect sense too... Its just a question of if the writers were good enough to place her there. Thanks nacho!
I'll also go for your Rebecca gunshot theory. Sure, Rebecca shot Yawn 3 times, but what if her first 2 shot was covered by the sound of lightning and everyone heard her third shot? And plus, Kenneth's gunshot sound does not match what we heard in the main hall when we saw his VHS before his death.

You are right about that rebecca thing because richard was still alive when stars go in the mansion, he dies a little after that so he got bite just recently. That still that, the shot was coming from diner way. That wii game snake is in the library but in orginal and remake re1 its in the attic first and so is richard.

We see in the opening scene that they can run out of bullets, with Jills handgun running out. Chris does have a gun outside.
So maybe in Jill's scenario Chris doesn't make it in, one shots a dog with his last bullet and that's what we hear. We "check it out" Weaker runs outside to kidnap Chris. Chris' scenario will be in the comments.
In Chris's scenario, Barry is the gun shot we hear. Barry's family is held hostage, so Barry must do everything Wesker says. So maybe Barry's job is to help separate Chris from Jill and Wesker. Wesker "kidnaps" Jill, leaving her gun (on purpose or by accident) in the room.
I could be wrong but I could have sworn there was a theory that Kenneth was given blank rounds for his handgun, making it look like he couldn’t handle one zombie. But that wouldn’t make sense because they wanted to record data on STARS Members against BOW’s. So this had to be maybe a surprise attack and fear combined for him, he was probably also the oldest member there and more of a chemist worker than a fighter, so it did say he was confused or something on why Wesker recruited him in the first place. God I love the lore. Imagine if Bravo team actually survived with Alpha team.
It’s Kenneth. The video tape was not in the original RE, which explains the difference between number of shots. There is no shortage of continuity errors in this game. It could be Chris if you want it to be, but we all know it’s Kenneth
But in my headcanon, Chris makes it into the house before Jill and explores the west side while Jill unlocks and explores the doors on the east side. They more or less share the major puzzles without ever running into each other until one of them is captured. In my headcanon, Chris gets captured when he bumps into Wesker after his Plant 42 boss fight, probably along with Rebecca. This makes it where you can play both campaigns and, while they still conflict, it maintains most of the cutscenes with Chris and Rebecca and Jill and Barry. Rebecca and Barry should both survive canonically, so I like to think all the things they do to help the player (Rebecca healing Chris’ wounds, Jill gets more/better weapons because her sidekick Barry is the “weapons expert”) is canon. This works with Chris exploring west side first and Jill east side because Jill runs into Barry who saves her from the trap on the east side and Chris and Rebecca play the piano/heal Chris’ wounds on the west side
i think you may have over looked the distance between both areas in the mansion and how the shot would sound coming from upstairs , and coming from the same floor , but it sounds spot on when ur rolling the umbrella chronicles story to RE1 remake.
I still think it's Kenneth, but for his cutscene he should have just shouted for the zombie to stop, then shot the one round, then sort of freeze in disbelief when the zombie doesn't go down, leaving the zombie to do his work.

An easy way to tell who fired the shot is the sound effects of firing a weapon in game as the Wii could have reused sound bits from the remake and they both run on the same engine
Since Kenneth likely died before alpha team arrived, it couldn't have been him. If it was Kenneth, they would have heard the number of other shots he was able to get off and the screams as seen in his recording. At this point it could be Enrico or Rebecca firing at something.
Becca was on the opposite side of the mansion that the gun shot came from. It wouldn't have been heard as clearly as they heard it. Had to be Kenneth
Enrico Marini ! He is still alive at this time. Nobody knows where he is because he is injured in the cave but much later when Wesker shoots him. In theory, it could very well be around ....
Well right around that time he was supposedly down in NEST/Umbrella's secret lab under the city, at least that's what it shows towards the end of Resident Evil 0...
Indeed at one point he crosses paths with Rebecca in this place and we never see him again in RE0. But we find rebbeca in the mansion has a few rooms of the heroes, so why not him? All we know is that he gets shot later.
I honestly think it was Kenneth, at least in the remake, because he was still twitching while being eaten. Yeah sure, we only heard one shot in the beginning and this was just a goof by the developers, who forgot they only put one shot in the first part of the game, and Forrest was way too far away for the shot to have been that loud, but I'm happy to watch and hear your thoughts on it!

Texas Gent totally agree, if the remake scene is accurate then Kenneth was still twitching while being eaten by that first zombie so to me this meant he was alive but being pursued as we entered the mansion ... also if they were chased into the mansion by the Cerberus like Chris and co were then why the ever-loving *squee* would they think it was a good idea to split up? Oh well.
Also nearly 2 decades of RE and I’m still waiting for the Zombie Chihuahua ... c’mon we‘ve had zombified Sharks, Leeches, Spiders, Lions, even an Elephant and a (dead) Whale! It makes sense it was Rebecca because by the time you get to Richard he is still alive. You would die very quickly if that happened to you, basically the same amount of time it takes to get to him.
I think Rebecca is a good guess. Considering she is the only one not present in both intro cutscenes for Jill and Chris. Another theory I would add is maybe Barry shot Kenneth to aid in his demise.

In the book Jill's run is cannon and its chris redfield shooting a zombie hes in the room the shield door is open he goes in and meets a zombie the door closes behind him the shield door i think its the same corridor were you find Kenneth and he shoots the zombie and can't open the door to get back in the corridor thats when jill and Barry go and investigate love those books and love the games I was 5 years old playing those games im 32 now and still loving them cant wait till September to see how the reboot resident evil film is

To be fair, it's very likely that it's supposed to be Kenneth shooting and they just screwed up with the cutscene in the remake. I mean... after the shot is fired the characters even turn into the direction where Kenneth is.

During the scene where Kenneth is being eaten, his blood is dripping off of the zombie's mouth. That means his death had to be pretty recent. Blood pools to the lowest part of the body within a few hrs after death and becomes a big ol block of jell-o.
Barry can't be the one who shot because he's using a colt python/high caliber revolver which is that freaking loud that you should hear it from miles away and it would've sounded different.
Rebecca dragging Richard from the library to the corridor to the attic, which is on the other side of the house doesn't make sense.
You don't move an injured and poisoned person from a to b without good reason.
Especially if you don't know were or if you can find an antidot or other medical equipment. That's unnecessary stress which weakens the patient and causes additional damage.
Bandages are useless against poison and someone who's trained in emergency medicine like Rebecca would never do something like that, which means her part in Umbrella Chronicles can't be canon.
I have a very simple theory: Kenneth firing 5 shots looks more realistic than simply shooting one time and waiting for the zombie to kill him. Capcom just forgot that you can hear only one shot from the main hall. It's a mistake made by Capcom.
Kenneth encountering a zombie for the first time is also unlikely because he, Forest and Richard managed to reach the mansion and according to Edward the forest is full of zombies and monsters.
Which means that Kenneth must have fought at least one zombie or cerberus in order to arrive at the mansion.
Since there's blood on the floor in the dining room, Kenneth must've been injured when he entered.
Since Barry didn't find any other signs of a fight (bullet casings, bullet holes etc.),
Kenneth must've been supprised by the zombie shortly after entering the corridor and since he was allready injured and maybe almost out of ammo he paniced, missed the zombie and died.
Fear, especially the fear of certain death, makes you think irrationally and that's were you make exactly those mistakes you want to avoid. Since Kenneth's body still twitches and looks like it's still warm when you encounter the zombie, Kenneth died only a few minutes ago.
Hearing Rebecca's shot doesn't seem to be very likely if you play Jill's story because Rebecca doesn't show up in that case.
Richard can't be the one who shot, because he encountered the snake in the attic, which is on the opposite site on the second floor and why should he use a pistol if he had his shotgun and still some ammo left?
Forest is allready dead at this point and his body looks like he died a while ago because he's turning into a zombie, which makes a body decompose pretty fast and if you go further Forest while rise and attack you as a zombie which basicly proves my point.
For me it's pretty clear: Kenneth's tape showing him firing 5 shots was done to make it look more realistic and plausible and Capcom simply forgot that you can hear only one shot.
Kenneth was allready injured, when he entered the dining room, which is hinted by the blood on the floor, the zombie supprised him in the corridor, Kenneth paniced, missed his last shot, the fear of imminent death made him fail to realice that there's a door behind him (in the remake. In the original he stood with his back against a wall), was basicly paraliced by fear and the zombie did the rest.

Perhaps Billy Coen arrived at the mansion after Resident Evil 0 and the shot is of his making maybe to himself after getting bitten and that is why we do not see him in other games.
I love theories and mysteries like this and this video was really neat. I don’t think it would be Forest due to him being found dead in the east wing, and the shot is heard from the west wing of the mansion. Kenneth is more likely, and the Rebecca theory is interesting!
Well I've always thought it was Kenneth due to the first thing you do is "investigate" the gunshot, which leads you to your first encounter with a zombie. As Jill, Wesker tells you to investigate suggesting it could be Chris, which would make sense as they team has been split up, with the team "unsure" what's happened to him, they'd assume any signs of life would be him as they have no idea Bravo team is also in the mansion (Obviously Wesker and Barry were a bit more clued up, but i'm not sure at this moment in time they knew where Chris was themselves?, they literally just ran to the door, then when you split up then they crack on with their evil deeds?, I can't actually remember it's been a while).
Then as you play as Chris, when they hear the Gunshot , he mentioned that he will go check.....which leads him directly to Kenneth as well.
Both of these are in the original Resi 1 BTW.
Also if my memory is correct the attic which Yawn is in, is on the right side of the mansion whereas your character literally looks to the left when they hear the gunshot.

My theory is that depending what character you choose is the one giving the shoot (if you choose Chris Jill shooted, if you choose Jill then Chris shooted)
It could have been an oversight of the developers. But, in order to make sense out of everything, perhaps Enrico and Kenneth were together initially. That Zombie could have initially attacked Enrico first...After all, he did have that wound when running into him later in the game. He was probably behind Kenneth, shouted something to the effect of “heads up” but Enrico himself ducked into the dining room. Therefore the blood found in the dining room. According to Kenneths video, it can easily be assumed that the zombie is teeter tottering around the door that leads to the dining room, but then focuses his attention on Kenneth. Kenneth fires at Zombie, meanwhile Enrico is probably listening to all the commotion from dining room, hoping that Kenneth neutralized the situation because maybe Enrico only has about 1 or 2 shots left in his weapon for all we know. Enrico goes back out into hallway to investigate. Unfortunately Kenneth didn’t win. Enrico fires into the darkness where the zombie is eating Kenneth, maybe hoping that Kenneth still has a chance at survival, but soon realizes it’s too late, so he then proceeds down the hall without looking back, and tries to find another location in the mansion to lay low for the time being. Idk, just kind of going by the seat of my pants here.
According to Kenneths video, You can almost see the zombie trying to get into the dining room first like he was following his initial target, but then diverts his focus towards Kenneth.

in regards to Kenneth, couldn't the shots on the tape have happened just seconds prior to the Alpha team entering the mansion? Then the single shot could have still been Kenneth, but in death spasms as the zombie munched on his nerves.

So here is a theory.. still think it is Kenneth but he shot the zombie 3 times prior to the team entering the hallway. He survived this long by hiding and was surprised by the zombie in the hallway. His final shot was because the gun was in his hand an dhis body was twitching when you find it so he was already getting munched and he constricted and shot as he was being eaten when they came in and his camera broje
I def dig an in-depth investigation into anything involving the lore and mystery of the first few RE titles, but I do believe that kenneth was most likely killed just as Alpha had arrived to the mansion, most notably due to the fact that when you encounter the zombie munching on him, Kenneths face can be seen still twitching and spasming, signaling the early signs of his brain shutting down due to the illicit trauma and blood loss suffered from being eaten. Also just to point out, I seriously doubt those spasms could indicate that him reanimating (in case anyone wanted to counteract with that). Now had they stuck with the og ps1 kenneth death where it was eating his decapitated head, then I'd buy into the notion that he might have died before alpha arrived. As far as that gunshot tho I'm still willing to consider the notion it was some other bravo...
