I destroyed two LCDs and monitor adjustment control board in the process. I purchased the wrong LED strip lighting which will be fixed in Version 2.0. This project took me three weeks to complete, but its much cheaper than buying a Snowblind PC.

I see your projects are "dynamite." So whatcha gonna do, TNT?
@@ImmodderNation Might have to do it to em'
and by "it" i mean follow the directions of your tutorial
and by "em" i mean iBuyPower
I have that exact monitor too😂 not kidding
Solid monitor. Some of them use LG panels, bestt in the business!
Thanks for all the help, I just finished mine and I put a video up as to how I put it together!
You're very welcome. I'll be making a v2.0 that I hope will working much better. Thanks again for the shoutout!
I just commented to say props to this channel creator for nearly responding to every comment on this comment section. Awesome work man.
Mark this day in history. When I become a bigger channel, I won't have the time.
I cant wait. Watching this and 2.0 and getting a plan for spring break. Awesome job. Thanks man!
Good luck Andrew! Make sure you have extra LCDs, just in case.
8:20 - "You peel off that nasty brown paper and reveal the goddess inside you.." Following you forever ROFL
Sometimes I say whatever comes to mind when I record the voiceover. Most of it stays in the video. Thanks for the follow.
Thank you for making this video, I was always looking for a transparent side panel with not whit but a black PC case, and your video shows that even it's a black case after adding some white led strip its still look DOPE.
Thank you!
Thanks, this is GREAT! I'm doing a similar mod with my Thermaltake Tower 900. This will help out a ton! Also, GREAT writing and editing! I got a good laugh at that bit where you introduced the monitor.
Thank you hazonku!
Awesome work, just finished mine a month ago, should have found this guide before...
That's fantastic! How did it turn out?
What tutorial did you use?
Great tutorial! Very thorough.. I also want to build this mod but couldn't find a tutorial explaining it in such detail..

Thanks for subscribing! Check back next week, you may be surprised at the new video that's posted.
Awesome dude. I built two with the expense of just one lcd. I wish your video was around then. I already owned a 90% white case on the second one so just a little bit of airbrushing here and there helped. I also implemented the cfl bulbs from the monitor for extra light. Didnt mess with my thermals too much. Love your work.
I loved the way that yours turned out. I need to get another LCD for the second version. How did you implement the CFL bulbs, did you keep the power inverter board from the monitor mounted in the case? I'm curious to see how you did it. Thank you for the compliment!
Yeah, the case had a compartment for a rad at the top that i just repurposed to hold the lcd hardware. A Sony SDM-HS95P (GLOSSY) monitor i got for 20 bucks off craigslist is what i used. I can put up a video of the inside to better show you the layout.
Please do, I love to see what other people are making and how they did it!
I know I’m 5 years late to finding your channel but thank you. You made me laugh so many times and this is such a sick project. You’ve re-ignited my artsy and nerd side again. Hope you’re doing good man

Sick mod build bro, thanks for sharing. I have a couple of those old monitors around, I guess I should give it a shot. I just saw one of them at best buy for the first time. They do use all white parts inside to reflect the light better. Thanks for sharing!

It's coming along. Still working on it. Running into many problems. :-/
Making and problems go together like bees and honey. I only broke 5 monitors until I got a full perfect LCD. Now I am excited for the 'Snowblind mod: Problems Behind The Build' video, you are always thorough!
Hey @ImmodderNation , I wanted to thank you for your videos. I just finished my LCD panel (it cost me like 12 buck) and result is pretty neat :D
I still have to find better led to put behind tho.
Congratulations. Remember to check out my Discord too. Link in video description
Epic video man definitely earned a sub. I just picked up the Snowblind, and am about to review it on my channel. I had no idea that this was previously done before Nvidia.
Thanks man! Let me know when the review goes live on your channel. Lot of people haven't heard of Modsquito or the ModZoo, but they've heard of iBuyPower, its a shame they didn't give him credit. I had never heard of cell phone farming before, i'll have to check your videos out.
There's some pretty serious money to be made from phone farming, and it is pretty easy if you have some time on your hands dude. But yea I meant Intel as well not Nvidia I ordered a couple of Titan xps for the snowblind so Nvidia has been stuck in my head lol. After watching this I looked back at a short video showcasing the snowblind and some woman from Intel was like "Technology we developed" lol So basically she meant stole not developed.
going to try do this mod with mine, though I will have to get creative with painting my motherboard, it has loads of LEDs.
Tape off the parts with LEDs or if you only paint two or three light coats the light may still shine through. Good luck!
AWESOME video, thank you for sharing this with us.
You're very welcome amilkar!
Definitely will be recommending you to my fans. Great channel. New subscriber

ImmodderNation lol understood
I checked out your channel. Love the Machinima style videos! You're quite talented.
Very good job man . Much better than buying an overpriced pc to get the side panel.
The PC isn't priced too badly, but I still find it hard to believe they won't sell the case mod without a pc inside of it. Thanks for the compliment, John.
"If you're wondering which wire is which, your guess is as good as mine!" Best line uttered during an instructional demonstration _ever._ *10/10*
When it comes to cheap monitors, no two are made exactly alike. This is why schematics are so hard to find.
@@ImmodderNation Yes, I agree and knew why you said that. It just came out so nonchalantly, that it made me laugh pretty hard. Ultimately, your case mod looks brilliant.
Unfortunately my rig's window measures 22" diagonally. Most monitors that size and shape were CRTs, which are useless for this application. I still learned a ton, though. Thanks.
Thank you for the compliment. You could get a monitor big enough but unfortunately it would probably be 16x9 aspect ratio and you'd have to create borders around it.
@@ImmodderNation I'll figure something out, whether on this or a future case: that mod is _way too cool_ to pass up! Thanks for taking the time to respond, it reminded me to subscribe to your channel.
Thank you for subscribing. Every little bit helps!

I wanted this case too because it was really cool looking and different but did not want the PC
Thermaltake doesn't make this case anymore. It's a Core V31.

ImmodderNation hi again! Sadly not for a good thing, after I installed my new control board after painting my case I plug it all in and it buzzes, while also not showing anything
Thermaltake Core V31
Shadowbeast, I think something is not properly grounded.
ImmodderNation i figured it out, I burnt a capacitor
@@chalk_jr hopefully you can see picture now
This is pretty cool idea, how ever when on PC i really dont see point of having extra things moving in your peripheral vision, power it takes to run this setup considering how much you actually look at it, heat it will generate inside your your case with and clutter it will fill pc with, depending on monitor used.
Personally this is not for me as only reason for the window and light inside is to keep eye on dust build up.
It's for aesthetic value, not function. Consider that the computer inside is drawing much more current than the lighting or display. I find myself distracted by it a lot, especially while editing videos. These LEDs don't produce much heat and it hasn't affected any of my overclocks. I mean if the only reason you have a window on your computer is to monitor dust, I imagine a lot of my channels projects are not for you.
I have the same monitor as yours and now figuring out which power cable goes to which, except for the 5v wire there is one extra wire that requires 3 volts. how could I wire that to the molex cable?
You would need to wire the 5v to the 12v and use a resistor to bring down the voltage. Google "Resistor Calculator" to find the value that you need. If you really have the same monitor just wire it like I have.
Great video, thanks. Can this mod be done with an LED screen? I apologize if this has already been asked.
No need to apologize. The mod can be performed with both. Be aware that LED monitor could mean a display where individual pixels have their own backlight, like an OLED display, so this mod would be constructed differently. Some "LED monitors" are LCD displays with LED backlights. Make sure you know which one you're working with.
iam gonna try this mod ,good video
You should. Thank you!
This is a very funny video! I'll try this soon. (This was posted at April 1st maybe I shouldn't try)
You're the first to mention April Fools. It's real, I tell ya!
AWESOME!!! first time i seen this done
It is awe inspiring! Thank you
I should not be having as much trouble as I am trying to find a case with a window that works, can you suggest some cases that have pre cut poly windows that will fit. I have the exact same monitor.
The Lian Li o11 dynamic is really popular right now. No window but a full sheet of glass. NZXT H500i or similar shouldn't be too bad but cases with windows are disappearing thanks to tempered glass cases
I have removed the anti glare film, after this should the monitor be transparent or should it still be opaque do to the black sheet on the back?
Antiglare film should be clear. Do not remove black film. That is polarization and would ruin your display if you remove it. The lcd will still be black without power.
Hey Chris, like the channel and scoffish humor. Sub'd from Oaklandish.
Thank you databang from a fellow Californian!
This is bloody amazing
Thank you Agent Lord.
Could I do this with a modern monitor? I have a few samsung syncmasters that id love to try this with but dont know if its possible with a tn panel?
Possible yes as they're both TFT LCD. Just beware that TN panels typically have bad viewing angles and lack the color gamut of other panels like IPS. Hopefully modern monitors have fixed that.
2:13 the face of a man who thought he was home alone. lol
In a studio apartment you can hear a spoon hit a dish in the sink from across the room. The microphone I use for voiceovers can hear a a toilet flush.
Hey man so I bought the snow blind back in 2018 but as of about two years ago the side screen has gone completely blank, any pointers or ideas on getting it replaced or re-building it?
You could try finding a replacement LCD. Check for loose wires before you go replacing everything.
I'm gunna start this mod at some point this week. 👌
Good luck. Watch v2.0 as well
@@ImmodderNation watching it now thankyou 👌
If you have any questions, check Science of Snowblind or LCD Side Panel Q&A videos first. I might have already answered them.
Hello, I would like to ask how you managed to pull off the anti-reflective film (layer) so nicely, because when I tried to tear it off, the polarizing layer also came off. I did it by putting some paper tissues on it and soaking it and leaving it there for 24 hours and watering every once in a while, but it didn't work. Do you know any other method or advice please?
Don't do what JayzTwoCents did. I would use another type of absorbant cloth. Everything else in your method seems fine. 24 hours may be too long. 6 hours should be long enough. Make sure your monitor has anti glare on it first as you may be pulling off the polarizer instead. Don't tear anything it should come off easily.
Im confused. I peeled the front and back layers of my lcd and it doesnt show any display when i turned it on. What shouldnt i have done? And how can i fix this?
The back layer of the LCD is the polarizer. This is needed to display images. Otherwise you'd have to use polarizer film glasses to see the display. Luke from Linus Tech Tips made a RUclips video about this. You can't fix it, you'll need a new LCD. Sorry.
Awesome build, question for the monitor choice, why didn't you go with a usb one seems like it would be simpler.
+Gavin Walsh USB monitors only come in 16:9 aspect ratio. I needed a 4:3. Otherwise you have to fill in more of the window on the case. If I were using a case that has 16:9 dimensions that would probably be the route I would have gone.
Only one thing..i know is obviously but i need to ask it for be sure, the display for show the image did you connected it to the mobo with the vga port?
Connected to the graphics cards DVI port.
Wow good job, never saw this before ever!!! 🔰😊
Thank you. Say hi to Pinkie Pie for me.
ImmodderNation Sure, will do! 😀
Nice video man!
+Sabeet Spongiin Chowdhury Thank you so much. Update coming soon!
What size lcd should i use if i have a micro.atx case?
The right size. How big is the window on your case?
Watching this video again, when you are placing the monitor on the side panel, it looks like the monitor is on backwards or is it supposed to be like that?
Image would be flipped if that were true, no? Check the bend on the ribbon cable, it should bend inward.
Hello,
Is it possible to power the monitor with a step up USD cord 5 to 12V?
Thank you
USB doesn't have enough current to power the monitor at 12V. If it's just the LCD, only needs 5V. If you need 12V get it from the PSU. More current on the rail.
Nice Shirt! Funhaus!
Thanks Shane. Hoping to meet the guys (and Elyse) at VidCon this year.
Did you see the "new" display of Sun Vision "Featuring RLCD Technology" ?? Are you able to replace the backlight with a mirror or any other reflective material to convert/make own RLCD ? some kind of DIY.
I watched the video. The backlight is replaced with a reflective material. I don't know if its mirror or metallic, but I imagine you would lose some transparency because of it. Also it requires an external light source, meaning the light outside the case would have to be brighter than inside. I don't know how I would adapt this for a PC case.
@@ImmodderNation I think a mirror wouldn't work. I believe it's an ultra white sheet. I googled for "the whitest white", the "best" product we can buy is the paint "white 2.0". But I live in Argentina, we have some issues with the custom to import that kind of things ... But my point is to use as a simple display like an e-reader, not to make a mod for a pc-case.
immoddernation I did it man, thanks alot for your input , with my first ever build, as requested IV uploaded on my channel for you to check it out, thanks again !
Looks great, Si M!
I completed this mod but I can't see clear at all through the display. It's just a blurry outline of what's behind it. Any idea as to what I did wrong? The display is an LCD
Maybe your lights are not bright enough. I recommend these lights or brighter: geni.us/hidenled
Also, you might have an antiglare layer on the outside of the LCD. DO NOT remove the polarizer, remove the antiglare portion.
There will be some blurriness. That is normal.
I have a question, found the diagram for my board, have 3 ground cables and two 5V, can I use any of them to wire it or is any spscific?
You'll have to cut the wires and see if your display still works.
@@ImmodderNation got a mulltimeter 2 ground cables can work alone or togheter with the other 5v cable, should I wire just one ground or the two? Display seems to work put the flash from my cellphone behind and seems there is signal
3:25 ahhahahhaah I can't with this guy, a very informative video, thanks
I forgot about the calculator gag. Ahh, that was a good one.
Good video, would love to try this. On a side note, the million jump cuts make watching so distracting.
Thanks Doc. I cut out much of my rambling to keep the video shorter. Sometimes I think I just like to hear the sound of my own voice. 😜
Yay something new for me to try thanks.....
Definitely! Good luck and let me know if you complete it!
hello that is awsome just done mine with help from your video just wondering where you got what you displayed on the keep up the good work thanx
search RUclips for ink in water, American flag animation, and the last one is Grid [Psychedelic Animation]
How do i know which wires on the power board are needed? I have the same monitor and didn't want to ruin my psu or other components
You don't! I kept the original power board and cut wires one at a time, checking to make sure it didn't turn off the monitor. If it does, reconnect the wires. Then I disconnect the wires from the power board of the monitor and connected it to the PSU with a molex connector. If you switch the positive and negative wires you'll trip the power supply. Good luck!
ImmodderNation will tripping the power supply ruin it?
Probably not. Hard to say because I have a Corsair RM power supply. It shuts off to protect itself from damage. Your power supply might not have such a feature, but I imagine most modern PSUs do. If you have a 5V power supply that would also work.
I would recommend a Automotive Tack Cloth to gather dust, etc.
I have tack cloth. It leaves a sticky residue on plastic for some reason.
I have like 3 or 4 old monitors... planning an infinity/smart mirror, and now probably one of these.
Infinity mirrors look pretty slick and I've seen them everywhere on cases. I wonder if people want to see a guide on how to make their own for the PC.
@@ImmodderNation I bet people would love to see that video! Got mine figured out but I'd still like to watch it. My case is a V71 TG Snow with 4 TG panels, I'm basically going to make the whole interior into the mirror. The "snowblind" window makes me rethink things, but my case isn't really suited for that so well.
Also prototyped a "smart" infinity mirror with an android tablet in the center... actually worked pretty well. No touch, so maybe hook it up with usb and control through the pc.
Also working on a plan for a combo PSU shroud/GPU bracket. I bought a Deepcool GH-01 because it was cheap, going to take the light out and use it for the shroud. Etch an electronic circuit pattern for the light, originating from the PSU.
The _other_ crazy idea I had the other day was a desk pc with a double monitor lift, (you may notice I have a thing for combos...) 8020 aluminum frames. If I want to go really crazy, a separate lift for a standing desk surface, and an arduino flex sensor to control the lifts with the force. Extra ATX PSU inside the desk for powering lifts, etc., and a conveniently placed panel with switches and binding posts for testing electronics.
Before I get to any of that, need to finish the acrylic bender...
@@TheDrewker Been thinking about making an acrylic bender after watching Dietec's video. You have a lot of amazing ideas, I look forward to seeing all of them. Good luck to you, Drew! That GPU/PSU shroud sounds incredible if you can pull it off.
can someone help me with the wiring... i have a power cable that is colored from left to right: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, brown, and black. i am trying to connect just as he did to a 4 pin molex and fan connector. what cables would i need to attach to each other. pls help
Don't think we can help you without knowing what monitor you have. I would test the wires individually the way that I did it. If you have a modern power supply, you don't have much to worry about concerning reverse polarity.
Hey man i think I got the same monitor as you, the Dell 1905fp but I have some trouble with disconnecting the powerboard as it literally has a billion wires .
I have a molex but it's all black, how do I know which wire to connect to which wire on the board
Use Google to find a pinout of your molex. Molex connectors are unidirectional meaning they only connect one way. Find your 5V and ground. LCD only needs 5V.
I plan on doing this mod to my NZXT h440 and it looks like my old Hp 16:9 monitor with no anti-glare coating would work best, should I go about it?
+whiteboi Assuming that your monitors LCD will fit the case window, absolutely you should try it. You should also let me know how it goes.
Is it possible to do this on a screen which isn't flat? Is the part of the monitor that you used flexible at all? I know this sounds dumb and it's probably solid and not bendy but what if I use like a curved monitor or something? Any ideas appreciated. I want to put it inside a gas mask helmet thing to project on the glass
Curved monitor? Sure, all you need is a curved computer case. LCDs are not flexible, they're rigid plastic. If you find a flexible display that might be cool to try.
yeah I found some flexible displays just having trouble finding any for sale :(
That would be amazing. If you end up finding a flexible display and build it, let me know. I might feature you!
@immoddernation , do you know how much clearence is needed to make this mod? I was kinda tempted to make this on my cable management panel side to do more of a Cyber punk design or effect. But I'm not sure if it'll be as effective as of hope it to be
Depending on the case it'll be a little tight but its doable. You'll need a white background for it to work best.
I knew you could do it thank you
Thanks for believing in me John!
It must be love to have the eplastic store in driving distance from you, because I always order from them...
When it comes to specialty items I can't get from Amazon quickly, it's the best place to go. 👍
Excellent work! (and you look amazing in sunglasses woof)..ps I delidded my 7700K from your video - I took your advice and got the liquid metal- It runs 4.9Ghz on stock and is now 62C on full on x264 stress testing - (where before it would get over 80 on stock volatge with aio cooler)...Great work!
That sounds incredible! Great work, i'm glad it worked out for you.
Why did you remove the anti glare?
Antiglare makes the screen darker, requiring more light to shine through. Good question, maybe I didn't address that in the video.
Subscribed already... well done
Thank you Carlos.
why does it have to be square with a 1:1ar would it not work with a rectangle
It will work with a rectangular lcd, but most case windows i've seen are square. Have you ever tried to watch analog tv channels on a widescreen tv? It stretches out the picture.
Yea, like they said in the Linus review of that side panel, the inside has to be stupid bright to make this effect really work.
+Mark Woodworth We'll find out when V2.0 comes out, but I already concur.
you deserve more subscribers
Thank you Voldsum. Spread the word! 👍
I was thinking of doing this, with some "Minor"(concept)/Major(engineering) modifications, that would, of course, blow the $100 dollar budget out of the water, but I wanted to be sure of a two things before I started on a major project.
How thick/thin was the actual LCD after you got it stripped down?
About how much of a "dead edge" did the bare LCD have?
When I measured it, the LCD display was 1/16" (1.58 mm) thick. The edges are 1/8" (3.175 mm) except for the top which is 5/16" (7.93 mm). I'd love to see pictures or a video when you're done. Good luck!
How cool would it be to run wallpaper engine on that screen as well.
Very cool. See my V2.0 with Wallpaper Engine
Hey I am attempting this mod and was wondering what type of glue you recommend in order to bind the panel to the acrylic sheet, I don't want to use tape as that seems like an inefficient method that will eventually loose its hold all together.
I don't have V2.0 posted yet, but I ended up gluing a shelf made of acrylic to hold up the LCD panel. You can see it in the Science of Snowblind video here: ruclips.net/video/WagINqONeMM/видео.html
@@ImmodderNation Cheers! Keep up the great work! I can't wait for version 2.
What if i try it on a tinted tempered glass ? My case is an in win 303
It should work. iBuyPower performed the mod on an NZXT case with tempered glass. Make sure the lights are bright enough to illuminate the LCD.
i this guy damn funny as hell xD. sub for you dude, keep it real!
+pan haha Thank you dude! I keep it real real. Haha or I try.
Is it possible to purchase cases like this anywhere? I would just buy the snowblind but I dont need an entire computer. I am considering DIY but I don't want to mess anything up and its just easier to purchase it if the options available.

LCD needs 5V. Use only 5V on the Molex. 12V is for led lighting. Ampere does matter, LCD doesn't draw much.
@@ImmodderNation Thanks you.
You're welcome and good luck.
@@ImmodderNation Thanks a lot.
Hey, when i took out my lcd it wasnt see through.
Its not going to be. Theres a polarizing film on it that helps it work. It can only be transparent when powered on.
Is it possible to get a large 16:9 monitor and cut it into a square shape without ruining it???
+Austin Reed No, cutting the LCD will damage the display. There are square shaped monitors but they are rare. I haven't found a 19" one that I've liked.
where you get the screen saver that your running
RUclips
For some reason i cannot get my lcd to work. Windows recognizes it and i can even drag windows off my main monitor but i cant get it to show anything.
LCD is likely damaged, but the video board is still working. Try another LCD. Hope that helps.
where do you get the animations from i cant find them
These are from v2.0 and should help you get started

are there anti glare layers on both sides of de lcd
+Kasper van Lierop Should only be on the outside layer. The other is the polarizer and should not be removed.
What is the PSU that you're using? I have a 1000w gold. I have a ryzen system with an RX 580. do you think that will be enough?
Enough for what? To power your computer and lights? If it already works for your system, the lights won't add much of a power draw.
I actually have two of those monitors, I didnt know they would actually be important to something one day.
You can reuse a lot of old electronics for other projects. Get mod crazy!
Hi. I want to know the video with dragon and smoke which show on your side panel. Can you give me a link. thanks you :D

This is funny because I actually do have one of these monitors in my garage xD
+Kit Cait Hard to find sometimes but I found someone on Craigslist willing to part with 2 for a cheap price.
Has anyone figured out how to get rid of the smokiness of the LCDs or is that the actual matrix?
Does anyone know where to source clear LCD screens?
The "smokiness" you're describing comes from the polarizer. Don't remove that! Compensate with brighter white lighting and a white background or else its going to look yellow like mine did. You could always ask iBuyPower where they get their LCDs, but I remember reading that they're custom made for Snowblind.
dumb question, but I can't seem to find where the power is coming from. I understand on one end of the molex, you have the LED's and Monitor, but what about the other end? where are you connecting the molex to/where is the power coming from
Molex is connected to the power supply (PSU) of the computer. There are no dumb questions, maybe I didn't do a good job of explaining it in the video.
Thanks!
What if I have a glass side panel (H510i) I want a snow blind look I have a 19 inch laying around.
You can do it but you'll need to create a black surround on the glass.
@@ImmodderNation you mean electrical tape the sides :>
Can i use any kind of monitor?thx
You can try. Some monitors have a cross ribbon on one of the corners that render them useless for the mod. I recommend a TFT LCD because of cost and availability.
Would love to attempt this for our stream programQ
I highly recommend it 👍
