This is really cool. That said, a better option than using VMC Viewer and needing to remote in to shut off the LCD Screen or change wallpapers would be to make a pseudo-driver of sorts. Maybe something simple in Python or C# that could connect into the terminal of the Raspberry Pi and execute a command such as switching the Display to be off when Windows is turning off and switching it back on when Windows turns back on. Or something that would sit in your Right Click Menu on Windows that when selected would transfer the file over the network and then play it on the Raspberry Pi.
Great video, more videos on the LCD side panel please! Subbed. Also interested in wallpaper engine Would be good to get a tutorial on getting it working on your raspberry pi, and maybe a list of wallpapers you like.
Great idea, probably wouldn't want to connect the raspberry via lan, a wifi Hotspot on the pc should do. I wonder how you got it bright enough in the case, my side panel is very dark - even after I removed glare filter and with 2 stock led strips. Thinking about extending the side panel with WS2801 strips since I could control them with the raspberry gpio (maybe to not be white but do ambilight) hopefully that fixes it.
Well and I destroyed my first screen, the second one (a Samsung syncmaster) seems to have 2 foil boards attached (top and left) that are connected with a 24 pin ffc. I bought an extension now to be able to wrap the foil boards to the side - hope that works... We should start a list of compatible devices for this somewhere :D
RocketMod The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B has built in Wi-Fi capability, I access it wirelessly through the same router my pc is connected to. So no wires needed. As to how I got my case so bright, it's three things, the LEDs I'm using, the amount of LEDs and the white interior of the case, it allows for light to reflect better. And as to controlling the light source, if you look at my first LCD Side Panel Project video, my LEDs are receiving power from an old NZXT LED Kit that I modified, so I can control the brightness from the back ofnthe case easily if you wanted to give that a try.
RocketMod And regarding your other panel project, as I mentioned in the video, I'm working on reworking my current panel with tempered glass. That being said, I'm looking to use a slightly larger screen, I currently have one in mind, but I have yet to test it to see if it's the one I want to keep, it's going to take a while, but I'll keep you and everyone else posted about the progress of that project. I'm guessing it going to be a good month before I see any results.
Cyberistic In the tutorial I made for this process, I explain the line of code I'm running. The part that says "loop" is what causes the video to loop when it's done.
Hmm, can't say for sure, but off the top of my head I needed the used screen, LEDs, tape, plastidip, wires and a vga to hmdi converter, some molex adapters, and a few other small details, so around $100, probably a bit more but not too much more. That is if you don't factor in the case with white internals I specifically purchased for this project and the additional details added as well to give it the needed contrast, it would add at least another $90.
Bryan Morgan Tried this when I first started this project, but when I couldn't get it to work, I went with plan b which worked as expected. Maybe someone with more know how can, but the issues with wallpaper engine on a RaspPi is as it is, it uses too much ram, meaning it might run slow, relies on drivers/features that Windows has that may or may not be able to be installed on a RaspPi. Those were the main issues that I didn't see possible to resolve.
Thanks, I've just been busy with a good number of projects and life in general. I do plan on putting out a video soon, but I tend to run into issues with the project that require fixing or improving. Every time I do, going back and fixing those hiccups tale time, something I haven't had much time of. When I do release the next video, it will show a full working project that performs reasonably well and will be a much larger step up from what I showed before. You won't be disappointed.
I did look into this a while back, from what I recall, the windows 10 Is for raspberry pi is a barebones version of Windows 10 that can't compare to the regular version. If I were to install it, I wouldn't be able to run Wallpaper Engine as it doesn't have all the needed drivers or support from this version of Windows 10 to work. Something like that.
That's the final plan, but I'm still trying to get a working version that works better than my first build, once that's done, I'll move on to tempered glass to start finalizing the project.

Your channel is the only that I have found that actually does a walkthrough of the whole LCD side panel process, props to you
"There's only room to improvement" It liked that
One of those things you don't know you need until you see it. I am going to have to dig through the channel and see what else I suddenly need.
I stumbled across your videos and am now a fan. Thanks for all the info!

Love all the videos on this. Very much appreciate the amount of detail you've gone into. I really want to try this for my girlfriends computer.
This look like a great project. I have been looking to try something like this myself. Maybe in the new year. Keep up the great work.
Yes to Wallpaper Engine Key, Thanks for your insight on making your lcd side panel.
How do you connect the pi to the display once you have taken apart the display? Also what display did you use?
Really enjoying your videos! And WE would go perfect with my new build, which should be done tomorrow if the RAM arrives on time...
Been waiting for this.. Would love a W.E. Key! Thanks for the shot at one! Going to give this a shot with a Phanteks Eclipse P400 Tempered Glass case.
Awesomely done Bro very nice. By the way i like your cable management 😁😁😁
Carlos Lithos Ugh, don't remind me
ahhah,,, Sorry i saw nothing :) by the way i like what u did on your side panel.
i subscribed already to you
Great video, more videos on the LCD side panel please! Subbed. Also interested in wallpaper engine
Would be good to get a tutorial on getting it working on your raspberry pi, and maybe a list of wallpapers you like.
I just put up a video today with a full walkthrough of setting up the raspberry pi.
Great job, very nice videos!
software? for the wallpaper and animations? please
For your PC's wallpaper, Wallpaper Engine.
Nice update. Keep it up!

How are you looping the videos in the Raspberry pi 3?

I need a 5:4 21" monitor for a good fit. Unfortunately those don't exist :/
Yeah, that's a tough one, the closest I saw to that size is 19".
what's the total cost for making the lcd side panel??
Hmm, can't say for sure, but off the top of my head I needed the used screen, LEDs, tape, plastidip, wires and a vga to hmdi converter, some molex adapters, and a few other small details, so around $100, probably a bit more but not too much more. BOI, YOU'VE GOT TASTE!
lmao we got "cancer"
You could try installing wine and see if that would run the program.

Why did you stop putting up such content?
Just keep it up! we love that shiazz!

you could use the "hiccups" for an additional vid ;)
however, take your time. good to know you are still around! @@OnePixelataTime
Yo Pixel.
There's a windows build for Raspberry, not sure if it support wallpaper engine/steam tho.

What case is that?
NZXT H440
Cool, cool,Hentai on my side panel I love it baby. On a real tip those LOL riot games Login Videos fit well with this.
love this video make more maybe on tempered glass
