    Quite-Note: Substance Comes with LOTS of normal maps shipped out of the box that you can use to make all sorts of cool normal detail - Everything demonstrated in this series is "default" Substance Painter assets. You can download external assets like textures, alphas, normals, materials, etc, but from the defaults most things you would need are included :)

    A neat trick: After finishing your decal/normal details, export your normal map (this normal map should be with the decals you have painted inside SP), then import it back into SP and replace it with your mesh's old normal map(inside texture set settings), now generators and such in SP can pick up these normals details.

    For me at 1:24 when you disable all materials accept NRM there is nothing below the those disable material tabs. No buttons appear or options its just a blank space. If I drag a material into the layer it creates a fill layer and those options do appear but it acts as a fill and any thing you click on (the cross for example) becomes tiling and overs the entire model. I'm not able to replicate what you are doing in the video.

      restart program its a bug, mine did same thing, restarted and it fixed itself. If that doesn't work try resetting default settings perhaps

    Do you produce music as well? I went back and listened to the soundtrack to Vanguard Knights and I love the PSX vibes from the songs. I've seen the little FL logo on your task bar so I started to wonder if you were the maestro.

      Thank you! And, yes I was a sound guy before I was a 3D guy, though I don't really make much music anymore, the VG soundtrack was the last time I composed -

    How do you set it up so you can see exactly where the normal will be before clicking to apply it? On mine all I see is a transparent circle and can't see the normal detail unless I click, which makes alignment kind of a pain..

      Sure man, On the left side of the top menu where you can change the "size" of your brush, just select "Full Preview Cursor" -

    How do I paint it? Like If I put a hard surface normal rectangle, how do I paint the insides? Tried using fill layer and normal anchor points but it pick up alpha and since I’m painting normals without alpha result is strange

    How to use reverse normal in substance.

  • @polygrind
    @polygrind Год назад +1

    right, the reason why some normals don't have a matching alpha is because they are procedural?

    • @TheRoyalSkies
      @TheRoyalSkies  Год назад +1

      Usually if the shape is cut off, yes, it's probably because you need to remove the alpha, or pick one that fits the shape better -

    If you have a problem with your normals looking funny, sometimes the lighting you are using has a big part in that.
