    Great video. Answer : Panasonic

Well, Panasonic doesn't have an answer to the a7s3 or FX3 yet aye. No 4K 120fps and no 4K 60fps without crop. AF not reliable so far. Terrible rolling shutter.
We can trash Sony as we want but people have waited 5 years for Panasonic to ditch their bad DFD autofocus. Don't get me wrong I own a gh5 and I love the menu system, ergonomic, video assist etc.
There's no perfect camera brand around 😢

@@laurenthenry I’m a Sony A7SIII shooter, I don’t own a Panasonic yet , but I can see they are listening more than other companies. These are cinema features are and have been available by on Panasonic, I wish Sony had .
      Lumix S5ii Key Features
      - Shutter Angle
      - User LUTs
      - Anamorphic Desqueeze
      - 17:9
      - Open-Gate
      - 6K, 5.7K
      - Waveforms
      - Vectorscopes
      - 2 Zebras Simultaneous
      - Audio Menu
      - True 24 fps
      - More HFR/VFR options
I shoot primarily anamorphic so cropping 17% of my image sucks. And it would be great to have open gate for my customers that want 9x16 . Rolling shutter is overblown. I had the a7iii and own the a7siii , it was never a distraction . I give you the 4k 60fps crop though. I Don’t care for 120fps

Digging through the firmware 3.0 update, I was pleasantly surprised that, while they didn't add shutter angle, they did add 1/24, 1/48, and 1/96 shutter speeds in 23.98 fps, so at the VERY LEAST we now finally have true 90, 180, and 270 degree equivalent shutter speed now. Seems like a compromise for now until they figure their stuff out (I can't imagine that codebase is anything but a spaghetti code horror mess)

That’d be great if they bring those ones. And yeah, was very surprised of the amount of people that thought the DCI 4K was offering wider field of view. But there’s no fix to DCI4K from what they have now, that’s how it works, it crops top and bottom and increases the horizontal resolution.

it's still the best all around small size video focused camera in the market, I guess that's why sony can do such things without worry about their reputation, because to be honest, it's already good enough. If you do not need auto focus and super performance in the dark environment, then panasinoc is the best option. Otherwise, there it nothing can get even closer to fx3 in its price, size and performance, not even arri or red since they dont aiming at this market group anyways.

Sony is fully aware of all that nonsense and will always cripple their cameras in one or the other way. If they didn't they wouldn't be able to sell newer models which will have new features to make us upgrade (we all suffer from GAS) but also frustrate as as feature A, B or C is missing although it could be fixed with an easy firmware update. Also worth mentioning is that in the 3.0 update, you cannot record DCI 4K 48fps in S&Q mode (to be played back at true 24fps) with V90 SD cards. V90 is apparently not fast enough, despite the fact you can record H264-I 4k 60fps without a problem. Really irritating.

Honestly, I don't know many folks active in the feature film production scene that use the term 'cinema camera'. Its really just become marketing bloat for campaigns and youtube now. Cameras are generally identified by their function rather than where the work is supposed to be distributed- either crewed, solo op, pov, crash etc.
The reality is that many folk have been steered to think that buying certain cameras mean they are suddenly making 'films', but few have ever done the work needed to create one for theatrical release. Theres a lot of arbitration of significance that just ends up being a distraction from the real craft.

Well explained Sherif.Thank for this another valuable video. Sony cameras are good based on different situations but the point is why they include basic cinema features afterwards. Why didn't basic features available from day one of camera purchase. If it's a cinema camera Sony must understand that it should behave like cinema cameras from day one to give value of purchase. If they took another few months or a year to include shutter angle or other cinema features and another company releases a new cinema body till that time .Then Sony will be releasing another body and will be in competition mode but will not include another firmware. Chances are less as seen with A7SIII totally ignored.

If in 24p w/ 1/48 shutter, shutter speed will automatically set to 1/125 in 120fps S&Q. When switching back to 24p, the shutter speed remains at 1/125. Pretty silly oversight. While I appreciate the Sony updates, it really seems like they're not putting it in the hands of actual users before release.

Very informative video, thanks for the effort!
I use the timecode adapter and have only noticed big differences so far when the timecode generator is no longer connected and the internal clock continues to run - but I will keep an eye on this. You talked about a video that is exactly about the timecode running apart... can you link it to me?
And one thing I would like to briefly note: in RAW the imagearea is not larger. It only looks like it if you have the distortion compensation active, because then it is slightly cropped on the internal recording to compensate for the distortion, which logically does not happen in the RAW feed. If the function is deactivated, then the image section is identical. The internal UHD recording is always downsampled down from the 4.2K.

Even during a continuous recording exceeding 8 hours with the adapter, all Sony cameras performed impeccably, remaining OnPoint.

    Jippi, a new DPJ video!
    1st off,
adding shutter angle are more complex than you think, as I have been told ,
-Its “baked” into driving of the firmware where have the ability to adjust/force hardware to right mode.
If you can’t get the hardware to sync with one fps mode, as 23,98 its never going work
It cant’t be easy added afterwards as I understand it.

Hey Troy, thanks again for watching, it's all the reasons I mentioned in the first episode, mainly the AF that really helps a lot, how small it is, having all those screws that help rig it, 120 Fps is also helpful. but when it comes to cinema features, it's pretty bad, Panasonic is a perfect example of what camera features and customizability should be like.

lens breathing compensation? Really? The ARRI Alexa, RED, and all cinema cameras up until now haven't had lens breathing compensation. How is that necessary for it to be considered a "cinema camera"? The ARRI Alexa shot 2880 x 1620 only until recently, are all of the films shot with it not cinema because it wasn't DCI 4K?
Just say they are features that you would like to have, don't go spouting nonsense about it not being a pretend cinema camera for not having them.

Lets not ignore that "The Creator" (a full Hollywood production) used FX3 to shoot the entire film, say what you will about the slow rollout cinema of features that Sony is making available with firmware updates, the camera's image is still beautiful and much better than almost all Blackmagic's offerings.
