Unfortunately one of the most difficult parts about showing love to lgbtq community, or their supporters, is that far too often they equate affirmation with love. So if you are not affirming them then you do not love them and they will close the door to relationship with you. I have loved ones who are lgbtq and I have seen them do this often. I'm sure it's not the case for everyone, but it does happen a lot.

God‘s ways are perfect, people are healed from that lifestyle all the time, but they don’t wanna hear that, they say it’s hate if you have a testimony of how you went from thinking you were in the wrong body or never going to have a husband and wife balance in the home and biological children, but then your testimony is how Jesus set you free. How do you submitted it to God, renounced what Romans one says is not his perfect way, and Jesus healed.

We are only hearing one side of these stories and we should be cautious about that. None of the people in the videos struck me as willing to listen to opposing views. The first lady says she tried to be a Progressive Christian in an Evangelical space, that is her problem right there. Progressive Christianity is not Christianity. I have found in my own experience that people equate affirmation with love and to disagree is not love at all. Which is a lie and that is whole discussion in itself. A lot of people want the perks of Christianity without the obedience or guilt of sin. We are to pick up our cross daily and follow Christ. It isn't always going to be easy no matter what issues we face. We have to learn to speak the truth, plainly, as kindly as possible and if it isn't accepted, that is not on us.

It is possible for passionate Jesus-Followers to love, and be in relationship with, those who differ theologically, those who are questioning their faith, those who outright do not believe in Jehovah God, or anything in between. We don’t always do that well. Our society has lost the ability to love and converse with those of differing opinions. My prayer is that you do not judge God by those who have not represented Him well. I hope you know He loves you with His perfect love and invites you to wrestle with your faith. A friend that I grew up with in youth group recently posted about his deconstruction process and mentioned what the girl said about "feeling God" in church versus the feeling you get from a concert/live music. It is devastating to me that so many contemporary churches have created this concert atmosphere and it is leading people to this conclusion. They have blurred the line between Christianity and secularism so much that it is practically invisible and those who grow up in these theatrical churches are entering the world and seeing that they can have these same emotional "god" experiences in the world! This is such an important discussion to be having.

I wonder if the people around that first lady *did* show love in the ways you suggested, but since they most likely weren’t “affirming” of the daughter’s choices perhaps she took it as ultimately unloving. She said they knew her daughter since she was a child and “knew her heart”, which makes me think she expected them to support her choices.

Thank you for tackling this subject. Something that I get confused about is when people blame others for their change of faith. Why would anyone want to allow someone to get in their way of redemption, their relationship with God? When did the action and words of human become more important than the Word of God? I am genuinely curious as to whether these people were in a weak part of their life, and instead of calling on God, they called on their fellow humans and were failed. Humans can fail you. God WILL NOT. ❤

As someone who is recovering from profound church hurt (as Faith calls it), I will say that it is EXTREMELY difficult to worship the same God as the people who hurt you/the people you love and misused scripture to justify doing it. You want so badly to separate yourself from those people that you can’t even be part of the same religion, especially when those people believe you’re doing the wrong and sinful thing by not doing how they do. I guess yeah someone like me counted on people and were disappointed. But for me, I counted on people who claim to be followers of Jesus to live out his message and they didn’t. They were more concerned about legalism and feeling better than everyone else than loving humans in their brokenness. And I’m not talking about something trivial like “the church didn’t accept me because I got tattoos and a nose piercing.” I’m talking about “the church banned my schizophrenic cousin from taking medicine and shunned him because he started acting like the mentally ill person he was, thereby cutting him off from his support system, to the point where he unalived himself.” AND THEY SEE NO PART OF THEIR OWN RESPONSIBILITY IN THAT TRAGEDY. So yeah, in my own brokenness, I couldn’t even handle being in the same spiritual plane with those people for about a decade. I’m just NOW starting to come out of that hurt. Should I have turned to God? Probably. But I’m not perfect either and I acknowledge that. I’m still wrestling with this tug that I’m feeling to get back into the word and the church. It scares me because I want to protect my heart and I don’t want to go through that kind of hurt again. But I’m trying to just trust and let what happens happen. So yeah, I hope that helped you understand church hurt and how those feelings can impact a person’s humanity at least a little bit. Also, the wound from this situation was so fresh and raw that I didn’t even consider what Faith mentions at the end of this video….that we’re all broken in the church and that we’re all going to mess it up and we need to give grace to other Christians. Which is a good point. It’s just REALLY hard to live out when the other party ENJOYS telling other believers that they Christian better than anyone else on earth and that all other churches are going to burn in hell.

I am a born again, supernaturally circumcized in heart, believer that felt led to leave the church because it has become a place to "practice religion" rather than a place to meet with the Lord and actually be the church as active participants in mutual building up of one another. It's become a place that is so far from the original early church the we couldn't hit it with a stone if we tried. It's the Luke warm church that Jesus said He would spew from His mouth. It stifles the move of the Spirit because it forces the majority to sit as spectators rather than all exercising their spiritual gifts. The church is an organic organism, not an institution with its own manmade laws and by-laws, memberships, pastor appreciation days, etc; it was originally where believers came together in a participatory way, where everyone had something to share from the Lord (and I don't mean serving the building) rather than everyone being preached at as they look at the back of others heads rather than each other's faces. The institutionalized church today, for the most part, weighs ones devotion to God by their attendance and service to the building instead of what's done to serve the Lord by ministering to the lost outside of the building. There is so much more but I'll just leave this here and humbly ask everyone reading this to pray and seek the Lord on the matter. I believe the Lord will tear down and rebuild if we don't fix it.

We have to remember that these people are lost, unsaved. Therefore, they are NOT going to believe. All of these people are merely smugly looking for reasons to justify their hostility and hatred of God. Period. The lady with the daughter who "came out" is a mother who is super sore and tender. No matter what a Christian says to her, she's going to butt heads with them like an angry goat. She's got a daughter-sized chip on her shoulder and she's looking for a fight because she is having her own problem with it. She knows it's wrong and no parent is easy with their child going in the wrong direction with serious consequences ahead. So denial, justification and rejection is seen as easier than to face it, pray it, give it to God and taking your hands off the problem to let Him work. She's living in la-la-land because she doesn't want to face the heartache. Her daughter is living in her own la-la-land. It's escapism, it's unreal, it's going to have serious consequences but it seems easier right now to follow the yellow brick road. To be honest, she may simply be interpreting everything through this chip-on-the-shoulder attitude. So no matter who may have approached her and offered to pray with her or talk to her, she's seeing it as judgmental and offensive. She's going through a grieving process and anger is part of it. We all get angry at nothing and everything when we are hurting. We want the hurt to stop and we don't understand why God isn't doing something to stop it therefore it's anger at God and taken out on everyone around us. So I would take anything she says with a grain of salt. No matter what her fellow Christians have done, or said, she's going to take it wrong. Right now, there is nothing anyone can say or do that will change the situation and resolve the problem, therefore her interpretation is colored and skewed. I remember when someone in the family died. Relatives were complaining that not enough people came from the church to see them before they died and they were offended when they came to the Receiving of Friends. On the other hand I also remember them telling people at church to stop coming to visit because it was too tiring for the patient and they needed quiet. But then they were offended when they stopped coming to visit. When you are in pain, nothing comes across as right and everything is flame to dry tinder. I really doubt if nobody from her church reached out to her unless she goes to a big church and they deliberately didn't form relationships and tried to blend into the curtains (some people like to go to church and remain invisible). The others are just plain justifications because they don't want God. Someone has given them a sound bite they like to throw out to justify their rejection of Jesus. It's always a shallow, not well researched reason. It's a one-line jab. I don't take any of those seriously. And I really disliked the smug little girl who tried to blame her grandfather for making her read the Bible. Ain't nobody going to lock you in your room and make you read the whole Bible in one sitting. That was a lie because it's impossible to do. I mean, even the worst child abuser knows someone can't read the whole Bible in one sitting. They may tell you they are going to lock you in until you read the whole Bible. They may lock you in a closet with the Bible. But they can't make you read it and read it in one sitting. It's an impossibility. And she "took notes on every contradiction" she could find. ROFL. That's just sad. She's made up a story and she promotes it. But reality is she just hates God. Now, all of this may sound snarky of me but we are everyone of us the same way so I'm not being snarky. We all hate God until He opens our eyes and ears and shows us a revelation of who Jesus Christ is. We all would justify our rejection and hatred of God if we get old enough to do so. We all can come up with one-line jabs that we like to think are nails in Jesus' hands. We all get defensive, mean, and will deny Christ all day long. We especially get mean when it comes to our kids. Right or wrong, we get protective. But none of it does any of us any good and the consequences could lead to eternity in hell. BUT FOR GOD, we would all be there. So, no I'm not being snarky, just realistic. Now that I am saved, I want to go forward. I want to learn about the Word, about God, grow in my relationship with Him. I don't care about learning what unsaved people think because they are NOT saved and NOT a new creature and NOT renewing their mind. It's pointless to try and argue them out of their justifications, hate and pain. All we can do is tell them the truth and then leave it up to the Holy Spirit to open them up to understand the truth. It's what He did to me and it's what is necessary for each person to really get saved. We must be Christlike, showing love and compassion but the work is the Holy Spirit's to do. Otherwise, they aren't saved. We can't persuade, argue, reason with those who have no natural ability to comprehend what we are talking about. I was not able to understand spiritual things until I became saved, born again. We are called to testify. We are called to disciple new believers. But the work is the Holy Spirit's. He, alone, can breath life into the seed of faith in their heart and bring forth new life. He can give life to something that was dead. Not me and not you. Giving the unsaved a platform to spew their justifications for rejecting Christ is not a good idea. I appreciate you and am not criticizing you, but I, personally, am not interested in more of these. But you do what you feel God calls you to do and obey Him.

Very good video. I am struggling to address some of these topics with my daughter and this is very helpful. I dearly wish I could talk to the lady about the issue of slavery. Our ladies group at church has been reading the Bible chronologically and had a discussion about slavery as addressed in Deut and Leviticus. God's plan for the Israelites was that servitude was only out of dire financial need, it was to be treated as an issue between brothers, and all debts were to be cancelled and servants/slaves freed after 7 years. God's heart to these people was totally of compassion. And ONLY if the servants themselves chose they would be a servant for life. There was to be no abuse or oppression in God's kingdom at all.

Read also Harriet Tubman the Moses of her people, A very short book, the good and the beautiful is where you can get it. It is the closest to a primary source as it was written while Harriet Tubman was alive and it’s approved by her. She was a prophetess of the Lord, first Corinthians three says we should eagerly desire the gift of prophecy, prophecy is not being a psychic, even Jesus says my sheep hear my voice, and Scripture says the gift of prophecy is to build up the church. Harriet Tubman heard the voice of the Lord clearly. The one thing about the book is it talks about how she would sleep for days, as a prayer warrior, I believe she was actually praying for days, choosing to fast for days, choosing not to move until God had the solution for her. Yes, God is a very merciful God, the Israelites were not meant to get comfortable in Egypt, he had given them the promised land and they were only to go to Egypt for provision during the foretold famine that Prophet Joseph foretold and was given provision for, but his Israelite brothers came and they stayed there too long and became enslaved. then they went into the wilderness for 40 years for what should’ve been an eight day trip, because they enslaved them selves yet again to idolatry and lies. Because they did not understand there’s Sunship in Christ. Have your daughter also read the book of Galatians. And the other person commenting really needs to read the book of Galatians. To this day there are many black people that have enslaved themselves, so much so that they hate, and I mean hate, those who have taken their Sunship in Christ and set themselves free from the bondage of government dependency and rage. If what I just said there upsets you, it proves the real issue, Government is not Church, the president is not looked at by Republicans as a God, there are manipulative people who take the good desires of your heart and they manipulate your fears in order to keep you enslaved so you miss out on the promised land, the good that God has, as he has set the captives free. The history of slavery is very lied about. The truth is black people sold black people into slavery, the worlds largest slave trade was the Muslim slave trade, there are still slaves today, far more slaves today than they were before the Civil War. But in hurt and pride there are people who refuse to let Jesus heal the wounds of ancestral pain and they blame people who are less likely to have slaveowner blood in them than they are. At the peak of slavery in the Slave fewer than 2% owned a slave. The bulk of Americans have not even lived here more than 120 years yet they are racially being accused based on the color of their skin, this is spiritual, people need to forgive and repent. Especially if you’re part of the new wave that denies Scripture completely and acts as if God did not make us all family, equals, through salvation in Jesus Christ.

If someone came out and said “I identify as a thief, please just let me do my thing” it would not be love to just let that person carry on in that. We do not love sinners by accepting them, but by telling them they are made in God’s image, and though enslaved to sin, He has made a way for us to have our sins forgiven, to have grace to fight the sins we all struggle with. We are no different from one another before Him! (I appreciate your zeal for God’s Word, from one pastor’s wife to another!☺️)

Faith it has taken me months to get up the courage to comment here. But I wanted to thank you because 20 years ago i walked away from teh church and the bible, but tried as much as I could to stay in contact with him. A combination of a church full of preachers who care more about coin and scaring people and the way I was treated as a trans woman kept me away. But your videos helped me get back into the bible and how I have missed connecting with the lord in this way. I know you and many of your followers might not affirm my life, or who I am, but You have reminded me God loves me no matter what. Thank you.

This is the epitome of how believers who may not agree all their theological convictions can still love each other like Jesus (and should!) thank you for loving ME with Jesus's love! It would be easy to be like, "Faith doesn't agree with me... I'm out and now I hate her!" Praising the Lord for this community of believers all encouraging each other in the Lord to pursue Him and His Word of truth!!!

I think in today's society the term "love" has been warped to mean "accepting of". To love someone, truly love them, we want the best for them. This may mean that we say things they don't want to hear. Like a child touching a hot stove. They want to touch it. They don't know it will hurt them. We point out not to touch it and do everything to keep them from hurting themselves. The kid will be upset, angry, possibly even cry. But this is TRUE. Saying things to direct people to God even if it is hard to hear.

I find it odd, that she said she went into the room (when her gpa made her read the Bible) “wanting to be a pastor”. It just seems like maybe this was first time she had read it. Maybe not, but still… if she WANTED to be a pastor? Why did her gpa feel the need to force her to read the Bible? And why was her goal, once reading it, to find all the “contradictions” and anything that made her feel boxed in (or however she said it)? Sounds like she wanted to be an atheist, she just needed to convince herself.

I agree with the genuineness of the woman in the first clip. The silence says a lot. Church, we have to respond with wisdom and love or the world will respond for us (in our place) and we will continue to lose more influential ground in public square.
For the young woman in the clip talking experiences, I would add that in maaaaany churches of certain denoms, not outwardly expressing the "proof" that Holy Spirit has "been in the room" or has "touched" them is a huge flag to everyone else there that "you haven't been baptized in the Spirit" or "you have unconfessed sin" OR even across other denominations, there is this hype going on, a need to entertain and there's a legit concert/show vibe where emotions are deeply affected. I'm very cautious of both settings. They both lend to this kind of thing, exactly-someone finding the same impact that incredible, live music can trigger in the body and thinking "this is the same effect but better, so...church is out!"
About the slavery argument...it's such a terrible point of shame in the Church's *American* past, but Bible came long before America existed, and the beauty of the message of the Gospel of Christ is detached from that abuse of God's words.
Have you done a video where you point out how to know when/where to read the Bible literally and when to read it literarily?
    Great vid. Thank you.

My pastor said this one time and it’s always stuck with me/ kind of woke me out of the deconstructing I was going through and it was something along the lines of people have a tendency to bring God to the expectations we have of people. (He doesn’t belong with the expectations of people) And I’ve found when people do get offended by a group or individual in the church most would put God into the same box that others have been hurt by. A) consider the offense B) God should never be in the same box as Christians per say bc God is far more holier than we are. I feel for these ex Christians because there are some believers who are quick to examine everyone’s heart but their own but God should never be blamed for that. Pray and bless those who persecute you.

Because while you would consider biblical truth plus I love you and will always be there for you as positive and loving, she might not. There are those who only consider confirmation as loving, so confirming that it doesn't matter in any way. With that mindset it's impossible for a non-conforming Christian to react 'correctly' even if you don't point fingers etc.

The culture has declared that if you do not affirm someone, it’s automatically unloving. Regarding the first woman, the fellow church members may have been loving, but not performing to the standard she expected, so it gave her a justification & deflection from the problem. I say this because she felt it was necessary for them to do so “publicly and privately”. That is a rule of culture in affirmation. You mentioned not affirming but doing so biblically in love....what does that look like in your interpretation? Our culture sees it as black and and white. Affirm = love, not affirm = hate. I believe her experience may have been more loving than her feelings were willing to accept. Just my thoughts. ❤️

I see a lot of supposedly Christian content that is theologically sound, but is judgmental and condemning in nature and that is certainly not how to bring people home to Jesus. We must emulate God's love to the best of our ability and love people so much so that it shines in comparison to the love of other communities that they long for acceptance in (lgbtq and etc.) so that they may know the love of God is true and very real. Thank you for being a light in the darkness and setting a great example. Keep on shining!!!

So, the lady that said that her granddad forced her to read the whole Bible, I feel like that's a horrible approach because 1, reading the entire Bible takes a very long time to complete, and 2, if you're going to have her read the entire Bible, walk her through it. Tell her about the "contradictions" she's pointed out. Or anything that may be misrepresented by a lot of people. I believe this man did a poor job in witnessing to his grandchild.

Faith, I wholeheartedly agree that we should love people who are living sinfully whether they’re gay or straight and having sex outside marriage. However, I would have to think the people who affirm homosexuality (and other sins) are willfully making an idol out of a god in their image. Having that mindset shows the heart that they know better and God doesn’t. The logical gymnastics you have to do to try to justify things the Bible condemns as sin is madness. I grew up in a progressive church and I affirmed homosexuality and I had absolutely no desire to obey God. It was all about me. It wasn’t until 3 years ago that I started to see the truth.

Great video. Thank You for sharing.
I think people, particularly those that are calling themselves Christians/following the Christian faith (or proclaiming to), need to remember a few things... 1. God sat with sinners [all day long]; He just didn't condone or take part in their sin ... this is to say God love people right where they are sin and all, but He loves you so much He won't leave you there. Yet, He doesn't condemn or shame you, He leads and transforms by example and when necessary rebuke/correction which leads into the 2nd and 3rd points... 2. No different than it is not the healthy who need a doctor, Jesus didn't come to save the righteous, He came to save the sinners (for the righteous do not need saving) and 3. We may be the only Bible someone ever reads so live your life and conduct yourself accordingly
So for those feeling slighted or judged or unacceptable, etc- those of us that believe in The Truth/His Word/The Bible love you though we may not agree with your choices; however we love you enough to not leave you in your sinful ways so we will never accept your sin ... we love and accept the sinner but we do not love or accept the sin.
To those being all righteous and condemning- I will again remind you you may be the only Bible someone ever reads ...are you accurately representing His word? Also, you do not have to condone the sin. In fact, you should not accept the sin itself but you are called to accept (love) the sinners because that is what He (Jesus) did for each and everyone of us [that have been saved].
Just some food for thought...for both sides of the argument.
Thanks again for this content. Blessings to you and your family.

You made very good points. People get hurt in church and they use that as an excuse not to go back. It sad. It sad that that people leave church over some very minor things.
I was always taught to love the person and hate the sin. Some times that is hard to separate from each other. As in the first case that was shown of the mother that quit church because of no support for her daughter who came out, you don't have to support her daughter's choices but you can give that momma a hug. Give her a call. Be there for her. You may not know what she's going through but you can be a shoulder for her to cry on if she needs it. This is her daughter and she is madly in love with that child that God gave her years earlier. A momma's love is forever and it hurt her that no one could even pray with her I'm thinking. Just bash her daughter. Not good.

    Fill in the blank.
Saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ "alone" for salvation.

onesimus was thrown in jail? I don't recall that - I thought he was helping Paul while Paul was in jail... I hate that so many have been hurt by church people. forcing someone to read the entire Bible or they can't leave is horrible - I've readd through the Bible in a year since 2017 and I'm just now reconciling some of the 'contradictions' and understanding better- the first time through I was mostly enraged at the injustice I saw! couldn't even focus for being so upset. I can't imagine being forced to read it alone out of community with other believers I knew and trusted

I mean this in the most loving way but I miss your bible study videos. I'm inspired by you attending seminary. I'm turned off by your social commentary about judging other people. I love your bible study instructions. Please don't lose sight of your calling.

Debates are rhetoric. Call sin sin. God expects us to love ppl, he doesn't expect us to be fine with sin overtaking the church and the country because ppl want to waste time begging for money and entertaining the congregants. All skin colors and ethnicities have been enslaved at some point and time throughout history.

I'm walking away due to the hatred of the LGBTQ+ and the constant debate. I think Jesus would love them no matter what. I'm not losing anything. I still love Jesus and that's all that matters.

Hi Faith. I saw an irreverent meme the other day on Facebook that said "just love everyone. I'll sort them out." --God. In spite of its irreverence, I thought that was a pretty good paraphrase.

Irreverent. Not irrelevant. 2 different words. Check your dictionary.

When you have a problem with a church, just leave quietly. No one will care.

    Loved your discussion
Churches have become to big ,and people are lost .
Preachers can't possibly get to know their church members and their needs , if you have a congregation of more than 200 people how can you possibly get to know them.
I do not like the mega-churches they are not focused on teaching the Bible .
Their focus is just how loud the concert is and how much money they get !!
There are no more Adult Sunday School anymore where people actually studied the BIBLE ,
THEY HAVE 3 WORSHIP SERVICES EVERY Sunday but your not studying the Bible
    I don't do tic tok
    Toxicity levels are very high

Im not sure I believe these people. And I truly feel most were looking for an exit so they grabbed at anything. Churches, people arent perfect. The road is narrow and not everyone can walk it.
