      Seasoning stainless steel pans is included with the instructions of every pan sold. People have been doing it for centuries, every fine restaurant that does not use nonstick pans seasons pans by smoking them with a high heat oil.

    It's because of controlled temperature, not because of smoking oil ritual

  • @ButchCassidyAndSundanceKid
    @ButchCassidyAndSundanceKid 3 года назад +2

    That's not a bit of oil, it is alot of oil you put in the pan. You suppose to heat up the pan, put a few drops of water, if the water turns into droplets then the stainless steel pan will become non-stick , it is called Leidenfrost effect !

    • @mahbuddykeith1124
      @mahbuddykeith1124 2 года назад

      That’s not how it works. A hot pan with nothing in it doesn’t become nonstick. It’s just the water providing an air cushion.
      Oil in a hot pan polymerizes to make a sort of glasslike coating that temporarily acts like nonstick.

Well I'm a chef of 40+ years & my crew each and everyday season our pot & pans. I told them all they were ignorant & was interested in what they didn't think. Just wanted to know if the ions of this mess kit was able to be seasoned. Thank the Lord and you for showing me my answer. I'm buying this kit for my grandson. Looking forward to watch your channel that I've subscribed to. Thanks again brother..stay safe.

    I'm callin goofy on the pan-seasoning though. While your seasoning technique is solid, we just watched you swirl 6 oz of oil in the pan and never wiped it out.
    OF COURSE nothing is gonna stick to it!
    Not saying you were trying to deceive us, at all. But surely you left enough oil in that pan to allow ANYTHING to slide out of it, whether or not you heated it up.

    But doesn't taking cooking oil to and past its smoke point oxidize the oil and therefore introducing carcinogenic components into your body? From what I've always read in health circles about oils is to throw it out if that ever happens because of that. I realize that you throw most of it out but there's still some on the surface. Whether or not that's a material amount to do harm I guess is the question. Some oils have higher smoke points but the principle here looks like it dictates you have to make it smoke to get that characteristic so I guess using other oils really doesn't do much. Interesting science demonstration though.

    Edit: a question for you, with such a stick free pan how many times can you cook with it before you have to re-season it like you did? how long will the seasoning last? like can i season at home than take on trip or best to do on the spot?i wonder because i partake in group canoe trips with 15 - 25 people in one go and this would be sweet to show the guys next trip :)

    • @rfarevalo
      @rfarevalo 5 лет назад +6

      It has to be a high heat cooking oil. Don't use olive oil or anything with a "low smoke point". This tip will not surprise anyone who knows how to cook or uses stainless steel, copper, or cast iron cookware (at they all need to be seasoned). This is only a revelation for people who use cheap nonstick pans and people who microwave everything. Humans have been seasoning metal pans for thousands of years (ask your parents). You'll find the seasoning last for years as long as you don't use soap to clean the inside of the pans. Seasoning will last longer if you do it a few times and really get the oil molecules into the metal pan pours. Wipe it clean or scrub with just ware (maybe salt). Heating the pan will kill any organisms that soap would have removed.

    Try not to use any rough materials on your pots and pans. Any scratches will lead to some heavy metal leaking onto your food. Stainless steel pots still leak nickel and chromium form the coating
