Making Straight Razor and shaving with it

  • This time I make cyberpunk style razor. I used old circuit boards as handle. It was a challenge to make the edge super thin and sharpen it so it can comfortably shave face hair. The main goal here was to look cool and not so much - high performance and practicality. It came out a bit big and heavy. When I get a proper contact wheel for my grinder I will make another one with more practical proportions.

    K, that was really cool. The razor looks amazing. But I have got to say that the hollow grind and the shaving afterwards took a steadier hand than I've ever had! I'm terrified watching people use a straight razor. I've tried a bit and it isn't for me - WAY too worried about slicing myself!

      Thank you for this comment. Sounds like you are familiar with this stuff. When I just started making knives some years ago I made a few "razors" but they were flat grind and pretty thick behind the edge. I was able to shave my sides with those but when I tried the mustache it just pulled the hairs and it was really painful. With this one I didn't feel any pulling or pain. It still can be made a bit thinner and better polished at the edge but I'll leave this for future project :)

    • @RustLegion
      @RustLegion  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you. I make weird faces when I shave because I had to look in a mirror that reflects the display of my camera so I can keep my face in frame :D It was a bit awkward filming setup. Otherwise I shaved many times with a razor and it is not a big deal for me. The important thing is to keep the blade at the right angle and move it only perpendicular to the direction of the edge , if you move it sideways even a bit - it leaves a mark.

    Question regarding your belt grinder. At 3:30 you spun the belt by hand and the motor ramped up. Did you hit the power switch at the same time, or is it by chance a 3 phase motor?

    • @RustLegion
      @RustLegion  2 месяца назад

      yea It is 3 phased motor on a 1 phase grit with capacitors so It needs a little bit of help on the start. This is not optimal setup and I don't recommend it , but when I was starting this was all I could afford :)
