I don't know how many reviews for these products I've seen but I've enjoyed yours the most. Truly an underrated channel, hope to see you succeed in the RUclips world.
I've watched multiple reviews of the items in your video & learned more from this one than all the rest. You do the best reports IMHO & I thank you for your efforts.
My camera and editing skills are much better (I hope) as compared to earlier videos; it's a continuous learning process. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Since you have the blue sawyer squeeze thread coupling, you have the perfect back flush system. Unscrew the cap from the Smart Water bottle, connect the coupling to the bottle and then connect it to the outflow of the Squeeze. Now back flush clean water in much greater quantity
I like your style. One note about the CNOC bags. I use them with my Sawyers. Saw an ad that said they were strong enough to stand on, so I did. 170 lbs of me on a water-filled bag. One foot. Didn’t break. Keep these vids coming. This was an especially good one.
I saw where you could step on one, but I was afraid to try. CNOC is a quality bag. I could tell just by the amount of pressure I was applying compared to the squeeze bladder that CNOC was going to be much stronger. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video. Sawyer squeeze + CNOC bag is the system that I see endorsed most often by backpackers. But, at $55 for the system, I just dropped another $10 and went with the Hiker Pro (commonly found for $65 in 2023). It's bulkier and heavier, but I like the versatility, speed, and the direct connection to Nalgene bottles (not shown here).
Ah, John, your video is so informative and helpful! Thank you for making it and posting it to help all us folks out who are researching and comparing these water purification systems! Liked and subscribed! Have a great weekend!
You can find them on Amazon that fit a sawyer filter. For a befree filter you may have to purchase off their website (cnocoutdoors.com). The bags are fantastic. Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel and i must say its one of the best iv found. Im in Fayette County not to far from you dont know if you ever take anyone hiking with you but id been very interested in going if possible. Its hard to find someone who is close who is interested in backpack camping now days.
Liked your video but you need to add a millbank bag to pre filter your water. This helps prolong your filters life and makes better tasting water also.
Thanks for stopping by and watching. These are the Dirty Girl Gaiters that I bought from their web site (dirtygirlgaiters.com/). They appear to be popular with the thru-hikers. I recommend them.
I believe you are right. The BeFree is a very good product and easy to maintain. The CNOC bladder is much better than the Squeeze bags. Thank you for the recommendation. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
Just came across your video and I am wondering how they may perform in AZ from standing and possibly fermenting stock tanks and such? Will be doing an archery hunt there in Sept. and worry about water due to all of the years that they've been in drought conditions.
The Grayl Geopress could possibly be a good one. I haven't been in the conditions you just described, but the Geopress is currently my favorite water filter. Below is a link to one of my videos about the Grayl. Thanks for watching and commenting! ruclips.net/video/qmX1_vapr0Q/видео.html
Take along some chlorine or iodine water purification tablets just in case after filtering your still unsure. Maybe some electrolyte mix as well to help cover any lingering chem taste
Yes, I am currently testing the Grayl Greopress. I actually have a video on the Geopress which was made after this one. You can check it out here. ruclips.net/video/qmX1_vapr0Q/видео.html Thanks for watching and commenting!
CNOC makes one that fits the Katadyn BeFree filter as shown in this video. You may have to go to their web site to purchase one as I don't see them on Amazon. The CNOC bags in the video will not fit the BeFree filter. So you cannot buy one bag to work with both Sawyer and BeFree. Thanks for watching and posting a question. cnocoutdoors.com/
Hye, since you review all the types of water filtered bottle. Can u suggest what can i innovate the water bottle so that it could improve the quality for hikers? Because im a student and we have a innovation project. Really looking forward for ur reply please☺️
I'm not sure what you are asking, but I'll give it a try. For day hikers, if they carry a Smartwater bottle, the Sawyer filter has the same threads and will fit the water bottle. So if you run out of water, you can fill the bottle at the nearest water source and attach the filter and drink from the filter. The BeFree is also a great option for day hikers to supplement your water bottle. All these options are lightweight. For camping or survival situations, I recommend a stainless steel or titanium container that has a large mouth plus a water filter like the Grayl Geopress or Sawyer. So if your filter gets clogged, you have a backup option by boiling water. You need to have some fire making skills to pull this off. If you are wanting to cut down on weight and bulk, the BeFee is good as well as the Smartwater bottle with the Sawyer Mini. Keep in mind that the Sawyer filters require you to backflush. You will need that syringe that comes with the filter, or you can use a Smartwater bottle. Remember to always backflush with clean filtered water. Also, if you contaminate your water bottle with dirty water, you will have to drink through the filter or boil your water. Boiling water in a stainless/titanium container will also disinfect the container. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching and posting a question.
I believe the Sawyer is going to replace the Hiker Pro when I have to hike distances to get water and haul back to camp. I like the flow rate. Thanks for commenting.
would the sawyer mini fit on an ordinary plastic coke bottle? i'm looking at buying a filter for camping and it's a toss up between the sawyer mini and the befree. cheers from scotland.
I'm not sure about a coke bottle, but it will screw onto a smartwater bottle. I believe though all these bottles follow the same standard on top size. Great question. Thank you for posting and watching! I hope this helps.
Cheers for the reply. My thoughts on this went along the lines of what you said about the pouch being kinda flimsy and fairly easy to burst, you roll over in your tent squash it and you've lost your water collector. Plastic coke or soda bottles are usually available as people leave trash everywhere and in an emergency situation you utilize what you can find. I also think that plastic coke bottles are cheap to buy, weigh next to nothing and have several uses other than holding liquid.
For me, it depends upon how much water I need to filter. For example, if I'm two miles from my water source and need to haul clean water back to camp. Thanks for posting the question.
Thanks for the info. I read where you can soak/backflush the saywer in vinegar if help restore the flow rate, although I have never tried this method. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JohnMillwoodOutdoors i am no expert, i just heard that from one of the MSR video about their microfiber filters. all microfiber filter are alike: lifestraw, MSR, sawyer, katadyn... its all the same just the shape and quantity of fibers that count.
let it FLOW, don't squeeze the bladder and they last forever... I run a quart of water in 5 minutes or less by gravity... if you don't have minutes to get a QUART of water you probably don't need water just more COKE....

You make some great videos. And YES the CNOC bladder is a game changer. I used it on my 2018 thru on the AT and absolutely loved it.
The CNOC is very good. I can put a lot of pressure on it and not worry about it blowing out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for a great straight to the point video. Am going to purchase sawyer mini. Thanks from Uk 👍🇬🇧
I like the mini; very lightweight and compact. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for this. I've two Sawyer mini's, coz, ya know, two is one.
You got that right! Thanks for watching.
Would like to see one of these comparison water filter demos using dirty/silty water.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm writing this down to include in one of my future videos. I like suggestions. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks for this video. 👍 I'm currently using the Sawyer Squeeze with the CNOC water bag.
I believe it will be replacing my Hiker Pro. I'm liking it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I 3D printed an adapter for the katadyn so it fits on a regular water bottle. If you need one yell.
Thanks for the info and for watching.
Nice review of filters so I was wondering where you got the bags for the Sawyer squeeze
You can find them on Amazon that fit a sawyer filter. For a befree filter you may have to purchase off their website (cnocoutdoors.com). The bags are fantastic. Thanks for watching!
I'm glad he mentions that if the Sawyer Mini Squeeze bladder bursts on you won't be able to use it any more.
Thanks for watching and commenting on my video.
The bladder. You can still use the filter on other water bottles. In fact, most people don't even use the bladders anyway.
Another excellent video by John.

Is it possible to use CNOC bag with Catadyn filter the same you do with Sawyer?
CNOC makes one that fits the Katadyn BeFree filter as shown in this video. You may have to go to their web site to purchase one as I don't see them on Amazon. The CNOC bags in the video will not fit the BeFree filter. So you cannot buy one bag to work with both Sawyer and BeFree. Thanks for watching and posting a question.
