    I use this exact method in Scotland. One thing to add to this system is after the waters potable in the blue cnoc before you detach the sawyer turn it upside down and squeeze the blue bag to back flush instantly. Saves carrying that syringe mate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🏻

    Love the CNOC bags. Tip: You don't need the plunger. Just connect your smart water bottle (or clean bag) to the coupler and back flush. I also just hang the bag by sliding the hole over a tiny branch.

    Philmont has MicroPure at the food drop sites, and they send you out of base camp with them. Strong stuff. Leaves a little taste. But it's just their way.
    I think I only used my filter once or twice the last time I went to Philmont.
    Weird, Northern Tier used Polar Pure instead.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors

      They still do that as the standard. Micropur (chlorine dioxide) tablets are still handed out at resupply locations. But filtering is quicker and also reliable. It isn't necessary to bring a filter to Philmont but it can be a convenience...

  • @up2top
    @up2top 4 года назад +3

    If you're using the Sawyer cleaning coupling, SP150, you won't need to carry the back-flushing syringe. Just attach a Smart Water bottle or your clean water bag filled with clean water to the exit port, then squeeze to back-flush. You get a lot more pressure then you would using the syringe and you drop a few grams by leaving it behind.

    • @r.w.7232
      @r.w.7232 4 года назад

      You can also use the smart water bottle Sports cap nozzle to connect to the back flush end for that purpose.

    When hiking, do you use your CNOC Vecto to carry water inside your pack? I thought this being a container that water goes in, meant for the backpacking crowd, that it's a no-brainer to say "yes" to this question... yet CNOC themselves, on their 2022 FAQ specifically say they "don’t recommend putting your full Vecto inside your pack if you’re concerned about leaking"!!! So what the heck? I don't get it. A water bladder for hiking that you CAN'T put in your pack if there's water in it???

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  2 года назад

      I always carry it on the outside of my pack for easy access to refill my SmartWater bottles on the trail.

      @@AndyParrishOutdoors The heaviest items (i.e. almost ALWAYS water) is supposed to be carried as close to your back as possible, and centered (helps with everything from balance to muscle strain). GREAT if it works for you, but still against pretty well set backpacking mantra (kinda like a manufacturer saying you shouldn't store your water container inside your pack lol ;)

  • @davidclark6694
    @davidclark6694 2 года назад +1

    My only concern is the strength of large opening of the clean bag supporting the weight of the water during the filter process. The design of the cnoc bag is for the large open end to remain upright. This side of the bag is the weakest because well...it's open. Even the connector is just pinching the ends closed. It concerns me that over a short amount of time the weight of the water will cause a leak in the clean bag.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  2 года назад

      In all the time I've spent with it... I've never had it leak from the wide end. Often I fill the bag up and strap it to my pack and it does great. That's just my experience though...

    Cnoc bags are the best.
    But two things... get rid of the Nalgene bottles and switch to smart water bottles. Nalgene bottles are too bulky and heavy for backpacking. Also throw away that syringe. Just use the smart water bottle Sports cap nozzle to connect with the back flush end of the filter.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  4 года назад +1

      Since this posted, I've changed a few items. I typically use smartwater bottles. If I have a drink mix (like at Philmont), I take a Gatorade bottle. I don't carry the plunger either. I also use evernew bottles occasionally when I need extra storage with lighter weight.

      @@AndyParrishOutdoors the connection where the dirty water attached to my sawyer squeeze. Dunno maybe I could try plumbers tape or something. Probably would of worked better if they had a gasket or something. I don't see that issue with the sawyer bags so I think its just the bags aren't a perfect match for the filter threads. Or of course sawyer could of tweaked the threads to encourage people to buy their bags instead as a possibility.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors

      Cnoc says that the measurement of the threads exactly fits the Sawyer squeeze... Per their website: "The Vecto is designed to have a perfect fit with the Sawyer filters, be it the Sawyer Squeeze , Sawyer Mini, or Saywer Micro. You should just make sure your filters have fully functional rubber washers to prevent leaks.
