    I feel as if the Grayl is overlooked by all these gram counters. A 10 oz water bottle and filter that is the fraction of the price of the Gaurdian and is lighter. This with a chemical back up like the PURE and/or Chlorine Dioxide tablets will cover ever scenario one could encounter.

      ...While this is by enlarge true,and the grayle is known for being the best portable water filtration system in the World! I believe the goal of this gentleman here is to promote and sale the filters that will allow him to achieve maximum available profits for his reviews.✌🤓

      Grayl v2 is out if you haven't already, check it out. Feel like it's a good do it all solution. When I'm camping, I don't want to waste time with tubes, bags and pipes or showing others how to use that stuff. Pour, press, drink.

    Awesome vid Ben !! I use the swayer mini and it took me 45 min to fill up 6 liters of and a 32oz bottle!! It will get the job done but just time consuming!! Then I bough the katadyn hiker pro, with In 5 min I have 6 liters of water and a 32oz filled !!! I love the katadyn hikerpro!! I don’t leave home with out it!!!

    SUPER helpful. Funny I don't see more about that GRAYL unit online-- it seems so simple and straightforward and just right for a traveler.
    I do wish that UV, drops, and tablets were included in this video along with cleaning/purging methods, or more on the lifespan of each unit. Still, great vid, thanks.

    I have the Katadyn BeFree and its awesome. Where I live there is plenty of clean looking water so you don't need a huge filter to filter out lots of muck. In a about a minute I can fill a Brita bottle that has a carbon filter built in and carry the BeFree with more water stored in it. It has an impressive flow rate once its primed (wet for a while). It's super light and compact which is what you want for hiking instead of a cumbersome hard to prime pump bags and hoses. There's a lot to be said for simplicity.

    I use the grayl and pre-filter with a clothe...lasts longer with a pre-filter method and I can get around a gallon in 2 minutes which will last me and another person almost a whole day. I've brought it on many trips from day trips to week long trips and must've put at least 10 gallons through it...but you definitely want to pre-filter and look for a good water source to extend the longevity

  • @almostontimehero5415

    I got the Grayl water filter. I felt it would have a good mix of ease of use, quickness to filter and capacity. Also doubles as a water bottle for juice and other things. The bags were too small, or too big and complicated. Adding an additional filter in the future, either a pump or large platypus bags. Feel like I would need a way to filter out large volumes of water for multiple people and cleaning.

      No problem to insert a active coal extension to the outlet-hose of the filter.
      Viruses are almost impossible to filter (too small) but they can easily be killed in UV Light. Fill the filtered water in a clear bottle or bag (I use Platypus 4pt waterbags) and expose them a few hours to sunlight.
      OR use Chemicals.

    • @gugan_1678
      @gugan_1678 5 лет назад +1

      Viruses can be as small as 0.004 micrometers in diameter. Since most of these filters can only filter up to 0.1 micron (micrometer), it can not filter out viruses. I don't think we will see the technology to be able to filter that selectively for a while, its best to just boil at that point.

      M. Akber Hussain the liberty filter must remain wet at all times, it’s a UN Mil-Spec for third world countries so refugees and soldiers can have clean water. It uses reverse osmosis from what I understand. Once you expose the filter and start using it, it must always remain wet and the filter has a timeline expiration. From everything I’ve found it’s absolutely great, in warmer temps, due to water freezing and the filter cannot dry out.

    This was a look at a lot of filters at one time, brother! I think probably too much at one time for many people... especially some who are first starting out. What is carbon for, and why would I need it? Do I need virus filtering? How many gallons or liters can I get from one filter? Do I need to change elements out every so often? Which elements and how often? I know you covered some of this during the presentation... good for some of us already in the know about water filters... but wondering about what some others are thinking about now... "do I have to spend $100 - $300 on a water filter that fits my needs"? Again... thanks for a great look at some of the products that are available to us, Ben. Just concerned about the perhaps... more concerned.

      Like everything else on my channel I show what I personally like and use. Only so much I can do in a ten minute video which is about the length of most peoples' attention span unfortunately.

      Carbon is to remove chlorine, bad taste and odor. Yes they can typically be replaced (depends on filter).Virus filtering is really not necessary for the rivers, lakes and streams in a developed country. Elements have different lifespans depending on quality and size of filter. They vary.

    • @justbanter8727
      @justbanter8727 5 лет назад +2

      nope - there are such filters aboard many yachts and other sailing vessels but they require very high pressure pumps to force the water through their filtration systems, hand pumps and gravity feeds simply can't hack it due to the impedance associated with these filters.
      P.S. There is a hack people have used in desperate situations which involves boiling the sea water and collecting the condensation given off (which is time consuming and very labor intensive), there are RUclips vlogs out there showing/detailing this method.

    What about the MUV ADAPTABLE WATER FILTER ?

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  6 лет назад

      The MUV is a very versatile filter but honestly I wouldn't probably take it camping, hiking or backpacking. It would be good for a kit or home use though in an emergency. Just didn't make the list.

    Sawyer mini “not the easiest to use”??? Am I missing something? You simply drink through it....there are no moving parts or special setup. How much easier does it get?

      As a straw yes but not if you want to use their bag.

    Does water need to be boiled also before consuming or do the filtration systems in these devices cover this? thanks

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  5 лет назад

      No boiling required.

      Really.. What kind of question is that? If you boil the water you don’t need a filter.
