  • This was the best Nintendo Direct in quite some time for me. Finally seeing a trailer for Metroid Prime 4 was a delightful surprise which caried over to a brand new Mario & Luigi and a brand new top down Legend of Zelda game.
Many third party trailers looked really good as well. There were many wholesome games in this direct and I'm all for it.

Well this is definitely a very different type of video than what I would typically make, so I don't expect it to do well but it is one I wanted to try because I was brought up gaming on console and PC and many of these franchises I have nostalgia for. During the GameCube era I was playing Mario, Metroid and Zelda on console and Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings, Diablo 2 and Star Wars Galaxies online on PC. Variety has always been appealing to me and these days we get a lot of games (indie usually) that blend many different elements from different genres of games to create something special.

I'm so happy they're keeping a classic feel but with updated visuals, they all look amazing.. I always wanted to play the metroid games when I was a kid on Gamecube cause I had Metroid 2 and Zero mission on my gameboys. I'll have a look at my local used market and see if I can pick anything up, people sell everything here and in excellent condition.
Anyways thanks for covering this, I haven't been keeping up with Nintendo news cause I only have my old Gameboy+Gameboy sp consoles so I'm really happy they're still putting quality stuff out there and keeping up with these classics.
Also on another irrelevant note, I hopped in Elden Ring and I decided to give RT another go. Well I don't know what they did at patch 1.12 but at High I'm locked at 60 fps 90% of the time (drops to 50 in certain spots I tested which I know are more intensive). Apparently after looking at forums they shadow patched it in the latest update so it gives more performance. Before I was averaging 30-40 at Low RT (So it was unsuable for me) so that's pretty massive.

I seen a Twitter post by WCFF tech earlier saying that Elden Ring patch brought some pretty good RT performance gains so that checks out. That's nice.
For me the update kind of messed up my widescreen mod setup. I have to redo the disabling of the anti cheat to play offline. I found a free FSR/DLSS/XeSS mod too for ER I wanted to check out and potentially make a video on.

@@TerraWare Why they never added upscaling is beyond me

It was a good direct, but overall I'm not sure how I feel. I was probably the most excited for Mario and Luigi, that looks amazing, but again not sure how it will turn out given the original studio behind those games is dead, so I wonder who is making this one and if it will still have the same charm as the old ones. They had amazing writing, some of the funniest games ever made. Metroid Prime 4 also looked surprisingly great for a switch game, but what they showed looked pretty basic in terms of the gameplay. I think they should have waited for the Switch 2 reveal to show the game there, it would have had more impact, but I guess they want the 100m+ switch owners to have the game on their radar. Not a fan of the recent Zelda games so this does nothing for me. I don't like the Links awakening remake art style either. Romancing Saga and DQ3 looked great.
BTW you should make a video of your physical game collection. I'm guessing it would be over an hour long lol, but it's great to get your thoughts on games and I'm sure it would be nostalgic for you too.

You didn't like all the recent Zelda games or just Links Awakening remake? I though BoTW and ToTK were great. The Mario and Luigi writing was a crucial part of the game so it's something well have to wait and see but everything else looked very faithful to the previous games on that trailer.

@@TerraWare I played the original Links Awakening so I don't think I would have played a remake anyway, but the art style really put me off. I know the game is great though. I played a good amount of BOTW but never ended up finishing the story because it just gets too draining to play that game. All the survival type elements and I'm not a fan of how they put the puzzles in the shrines which have nothing to do with anything, the puzzle solving just doesn't feel intuitive. I started another run on PC this time with an emulator and cheats to remove some of the annoyances for me and that felt a lot better, but I'm just doing the things I already did so it's not the same fun. You spend a lot of time doing nothing in BOTW. I never got TOTK because I didn't enjoy the gameplay loop of BOTW that much.

@XDDX_NZ I can understand that. I played BotW on am emulator too with the cheats that remove durability. It kinda felt too easy.
You should check out TotK though whenever in an emulator. Games good but some games don't appeal to everyone it's all good.
