  • A six-minute video exploring what the Canadian 'Buyback' of so-called 'Military-Style Assault Rifles' actually is, and how it works. As of 2024/06/09 the Canadian Federal government has spent $42,000,000 without taking possession of a single firearm.

    It's never enough for those in power wanting to disarm you.

      This is especially true amongst competitive shooting. 3-gun is gone, most pistol leagues are either gone or in their way out, cowboy action is disappearing. It's pretty hard to compete when all the sporting goods are prohibited or sales are frozen.

      We aren’t disarmed. Also this video has misinformation from the get-go.
      There’s been plenty of homicides with AR-15 platform rifles in Canada…From the two Islamic Extremists who shot a police officer a few years back, to the Nova Scotia shooter.
      It’s tragic what’s happening here but what’s even more tragic is the gun community here that’s willing to embellish and lie, thinking that won’t get more guns taken from us.

      not really true. In Canada's history, guns have always been a work tool, for ranchers, farmers, hunters and trappers. After a while, some guns were used for hunting purposes for city folks. In the 1930s, the government of the day looked to the criminality happening in USA, did not want what was happening there, and went about constructing much of the gun laws we see today. Basically, guns were meant to be work tools, not pleasure tools.
      Nowhere in Canada's history were guns treated as joy pieces, until very recently.

    • @SMac86
      @SMac86 18 дней назад +4

      @rb239rtr That's a ridiculous statement.
      First of all, a lot of Canadian towns and cities have always been a little rural, especially out west. Could not necessarily count on a quick law enforcement response. For you to claim that town folk did not have a need to own pistols and shotguns and rifles is just false.
      Also you're making quite an assumption that no rancher or farmer ever bought, or owned guns in their collection, for pure enjoyment or pleasure/sport use.
      But I think the biggest objection I have to your comment is that city folk don't have a long-standing culture of taking hunting trips and using fire arms as tools. And like any tool, if you want to be proficient in use you must practice. Hence, gun clubs and shooting ranges. This culture belongs to every Canadian.

    Pretty good video, well supported and argued. That being said there is one key flaw in it. You use the term Assault Rifle, in the context of these recents bans, but all Assault Rifles were banned in the 1970s (I believe 1977).
    The illegal and highly unconstitutional May 2020 OIC is targeting so called “assault weapons” or “assault-style” firearms, not the already banned Assault Rifles. Those 2 terms in quotations & not capitalized are written that way because they are invented terms not recognized internationally. However, Assault Rifle is capitalized & lacks quotations because that term is internationally recognized with a very specific definition/criteria, thus is a noun.

    • @TATVCanada
      @TATVCanada  18 дней назад +1

      That's a really good question! There are a few different issues here that make it hard to answer, not the least of which being that Canada has never done anything like this before, so there's not a lot of history or precedent. Ordinarily, Canadian law recognizes the receiver as the actual 'firearm' as it contains the action and usually the serial number. Assuming they proceed accordingly, theoretically you could retain accessories or parts. The reality of the situation is the liberals have been pretty clear that anything related to these guns will also be prohibited, including magazines. One of the challenges for those of us affected by it is that even in the event the government allowed us to retain 'non-firearm' parts, most of them will be useless as you no longer have the gun they fit and/or anyone to sell them to since they're in the same boat. In my case I have several very expensive gun gases with custom cut foam, an ar specific optic, and spare/performance parts that can't be used for anything else. I also have a full set of reloading equipment, bullets and brass for 223-- but my AR's are the only 223 caliber firearms I own. The resale value of anything 223 here has been cut to ribbons due to the massive reduction in demand. It's like having your gasoline powered car seized, but being told you can keep the gasoline and cans when the only cars left on the road are electric. I've got over 20k pieces of brass that I'd be lucky to get anything for at this stage.

      I've definitely heard that many times before. I firmly believe they intend(ed) to make things as miserable and cumbersome as possible to try and smother gun ownership while pretending its a "declining level of interest". Everything from the long gun registry and ATT's for restricted class firearms to the absurd waiting times on hold with the CFP and inexcusable processing delays is designed to just grate on you until you give up and say it's not worth it.

    A buyback? With what money? Taxpayer? So they can give me back a little bit of what I already pay? A scam is what this is. 😂

      After they give you back a piece of your own money they'll probably still expect you to treat it as income and pay tax on it again.

      @@TATVCanada they most certainly do not want that. it's why enforcement in smaller towns and gangland doesn't happen, because it will cost. our nation is very dependent on the use of media to project a narrative of almost omniscient state power, and any scenario that pops up like say Oka, reveals the true nature of their handle on things, or rather lack of it. obedience is not the way forward

    This is an absolutely terrible argument for this.
    That said, nothing about the "byback" is, in any way, useful to make people more safe.

      Last I heard the Liberals are pushing hard to try get *something* started during the election so they can point and say "Look how we're toughening up gun control', knowing full well it's not sustainable or logical. Then when they lose they can just dump it on the Conservatives on their way out the door.
