Gotta say, I was really excited to potentially save $1000 and do this myself, since this is a great video and looked like a doable repair. Then I got to the rubber cover over the inside end of the strut and my job came to a halt.
I'd assumed that all W211s had an auto lift gate cause it seems like a fancy Mercedes thing. I only have the E320, so I figured the E500 in the video would have more features than mine.
Well, I assumed wrong: I have the auto lift gate, and that means I can't simply pop off the rubber caps inside the car: there are two cables going through each one, and and the only way to get the covers off is to remove the headliner (at least half way).
Just a warning to anyone else watching this: If you have an automatic lift gate, there isn't really an easy way out - you'll have to drop the headliner. Forums say that's a 2-3 hour job, and probably only if you're good at this sort of thing.

The W211 is the sedan version. For the wagon (as seen in the video or T-Modell in Germany), it's coded the S211.

Can someone help? I can’t just pop the new one back on. He doesn’t show what tool he uses to fit the ends of the new struts and it’s almost impossible to just push down. What are you guys using?

@@YourCarGuyDRSame! Called it my dream dad mobile . I flew to Miami a few weeks ago with my 14 year old son, bought it and drove it home. These struts are the only issue I have to fix thankfully
