This docuseries explores surprising predictions about augmented reality, wearable tech and other innovations that will impact our lives in the future.
Advancements need to clean waters, fix dead soils, counter the effects of mining, clean the air, fix the ozone, make it simple and easy to grow vegetables and root crops and fruits, fight disinformation, promote equality, and afford everyone the kind of education that will allow them to entertain ideas that they dont necessarily have to accept and follow.
Nah, we get blockchain in video games and phone glasses .... great
yes!!
I like the way you think. Let's be friends.
Disinformation is a point of view. Equality is a ridiculous fantasy. Sounds like you're promoting a dystopian nightmare. All the best intentions...
Who gets to decide what the disinformation is? Nothing is really true or newsworthy if it involves political ideologies and governments.... Even so called 'Fact Checkers' organisations have been found to be leaning one way or the other politically and somewhat misleading...It's a minefield out there when it comes to 'truths' especially if it is not deemed by governments to be in the national interest for their citizens to know 😔 However, everything else you mentioned for future changing societies is of course, fundamental. I like the way you think 😍
It won't make much of a difference if these advancements do not lift the majority of the human population out of poverty and are only available to the wealthy in wealthy nations extracting the raw materials from countries mired in suffering. All it will do is create an even wider gap between the haves and have-nots. We need technology that will liberate the world from the clutches of being wage slaves and being oppressed by tyrannical regimes and ideologies that limit their human rights and happiness.
We are great at innovating. Now if only we could innovate a way so most of humanity had access to these advancements we would do great!
Well that would require people to want to be socialists.
As far as I remember most Americans are against being socialist.
@@archforge Most people are conformists! They like to think they're not but they are. The most diehard capitalist in America could have been an Islamist or a communist if they had been raised in a different location and been spoonfed a different ideology! Their thoughts are not their own and it's a shame! Nobody who stops to think about things clearly would consider it ok that one person can own so much that they won't ever live long enough to spend it and those who sell their labour to him should sell it so cheaply that they end up needing foodstamps! It is beyond ridiculous that billionaires can depend on people who produce the goods they sell before going outside the factories to basically beg for their dinner! It's repulsive! And you have to be conditioned and indoctrinated throughout your life before you conform to such ways of thinking!
In fact humanity managed to lift an ever increasing part out of poverty over the last decades; this was achieved i.a. via technological progress. I highly recommend the book "Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About The World - And Why Things Are Better Than You Think" from Hans Rosling, in which he describes how most people wrongly assume the world is getting worse all the time.
@@archforge We neither need socialism nor pure capitalism but a functioning market economy with a sufficient social security net, such as in northern europe
"What if your data was stored in a house plant?!"
Well, plants die, so... that's... probably not ideal...

i imagine there would be a backup solution. maybe when plants die they omit some sort of a chemical which then triggers the data to be stored in an online cloud. but i really dont know what she even means by 'store your data in a plant' so...
so do hard drives and USB sticks lol
if the house plant got pollinated... does it mean you have a child? a twin or doppelgänger?

I used to get so excited for shows like this. But I learned tech is a seduction and a false promise. We're swimming in technology, and everybody's miserable. You want to "make a better world?" Resist the whiz-bang and focus on what's real.

Very well said. Technology has its uses, but no tech can make happiness.
Speak for yourself. You’re only miserable if you don’t use it the right way. Don’t take it for granted.
I'm reminded of an episode or episodes of Black Mirror. This has the potential of taking "survival of the fittest" to a whole new level
We rely less and less on our natural intuition and senses the more we give over to big technology, but it’s so seducing it’s incredibly hard to resist as we all become more tired to do it on our own. It’s a double edge sword. What seems more convenient makes us weaker and more reliant on artificial things in the end.
Facts it look we advancing but we really going backwards
Almost definitely. Perhaps the only real advantage to the evolution of technology lies in the possibility of revealing our true nature through technology. Like a mirror image into ourselves.
The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
They are the snake in the Garden of Eden, and these man-made horrors are the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Funny how they try so hard to show what an ideal future might look like or be, when half of this stuff might not be accessible to anybody because it's super expensive.
Keep on dreaming.
@grace yeah but like. Do you really think that if you could easily live in a pure air space building, with a lot of plant and stuff..? That'd be only for very rich people that want "Fresh air".. Even if it'd be better to live in mountains.
As for Mars? If there is ever something to that.. Pressure sure we'd be the last on the list.
@@Ico_ Humanity (or more specifically the scientific community) could unite to create a large machine, so large that it is bigger than the Eiffel tower and wider than a volcano, to "filter" the air so the world would have a huge extremely effective filter. Yeah, at the upcoming age of 65, if I was offered an upgrade I think I would take it. Be healthier, be smarter, live longer… sure why not. But there has to be the balance of quality to quantity.
I would too. I’m 33 and even at 17 I was interested in the prospect of prolonging life expectancy. Of course, with that would cause people to ponder how that would also impact the population as it increases. Still, I feel by that time…several other issues surrounding people living longer would be addressed before hand.
I’m 15 and I think the world has been hell I can’t imagine living 200 years💀
@MaynesWorld & @NicknameJunior15 I kinda feel bad for you, living is for me a gift. In 2006 I died, at the ripe old age of 48 I survived a inoperable brain aneurysm, which caused two heart attacks, and seven strokes. I am very lucky to be alive today so, my perspective may be a little different than yours. I have lived to see both of my beautiful daughters married, and the birth of three grandchildren. I want to keep living to see each of my grandchildren married and become a great grandfather too.
Interesting? Intriguing? Thought provoking? YES!
Do I want any of this mess? NOPE!!!!!
Did you know that there are a lot of scientists working on storing data on DNA?
Imagine a small hardrive the size of a thumb in your laptop with a storage capacity of 5000 TB and you could probably access the data as quickly as how your synapses in your brain react with each other (
@@LordCoeCoe Impressive indeed. I get it that the way we perceive 'evolution' is to constantly up the ante but do you think it's feasible? It's advancement but at what cost? Why do we need everything instantly? I'm from the year after 1985 and have seen quite a lot in the years I've had this far and I'm just crankier, more impatient, and annoyed tbh than how I was in the simpler times. We used to get work done earlier as well so is speed required everywhere? Just ramblings... Cheers!
If there's no WW3 or big bio wars. How the year 2100 would look like and how tech would have been developed, we have no idea though we think we know. A teenager in the 70s living today wouldn't think everything we have today would be possible if he was told in the 70s. This is amazing. Love from London.
So much of my work as a Death Doula is to help people think about their future in their death, so thinking about what our collective future holds was so fun! Thanks for having me as a part of this series!!
What’s a death doula? Sounds so cool!
about to turn into one of those “i was born in the wrong generation kids” and going to start using technology and consuming media explicitly from the 80s or 90s or something, as far as my ability
I agree. I feel like we reached a stable peak of technological advancements in the 2010s (smartphones), and everything else after that is just overkill aimed at increasing benefits for a few while ever augmenting the planet's exploitation. We don't actually need more technology to live happier, we don't need more gadgets, we as humankind have already produced everything we could ever wish for.
In terms of entertainment and media: retro all way.
We don't need this series. We already have Black Mirror.
yuppp
I’m honestly a big fan of Netflix’s documentaries. They’re definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. They’re all mind-bending, fascinating, eye-opening, and most importantly, they emphasize or highlight issues that need to be further addressed and analyzed. This is entirely different from all the other documentaries I’ve encountered before. Its main focus is on future technological advancements, which I find highly intriguing. I’m not totally familiar with certain aspects of technology and all things science, so technically, this is a must watch for me.
100% but this trailer depressing
Though it's not entirely unique. Discovery Channel, National Geographic, The BBC, and even the History Channel (ironic), have in the past produced series that have focused on future technologies. This concept has been a thing since the 70's.
I remember in the early 2000's tuning in every week to watch some tech documentary on Discovery and being intrigued about ideas that seemed far fetched yet are reality today and we take them for granted. Such as Google maps, personal Portable hardrives with over 1terabyte storage, self driving electric cars, robots similar to the ones of Boston dynamics , pills we could take that would diagnose illnesses (haven't seen this one yet), anyway plenty of stuff.
As a fan of future things who has watched a lot of these documentaries, I'll tell you this, more than half of the stuff they tend to show truly become reality to the extent of being daily features in our lives.
Looking forward to this series.
Predictive Programming.
Which documentaries do you recommend? Thank you
In the UK we had a great show on BBC called 'Tomorrow's World' which teased us with all kinds of amazing future stuff. Some of it has even come to fruition. But assholes still exist, sadly.
This looks terrifying over hopeful. Nowhere do I see this helping the people that are most in need of help we're going to see more homelessness and possibly more illnesses in the coming years
"What if your data was stored in a house plant?"
Please no.
Why not? Someone could rip a leaf and you lose like 50 TB of p*rn? lol. I mean it is a good concept but there is a way better way to store data that you probably didn't see.
Storing data in DNA. we could put DNA in a small tube or whatever and put it in a laptop and have like 500 TB of a super speedy hard drive.
They are working on that too. DNA is really amazing.
ch, no way
how did we go from the absolute beauty of the 70s-2000s nostalgic color grading (using film references, like imagine the vibe of scooby doo, ferris beullers day off, the notebook, mean girls, clueless, now and then, mama mia, the parent trap, scream, forrest gump etc) to 4K super clean, almost unreal and too good to the point of deception dystopian utopia, like the step ford wives, hunger games, maze runner, black mirror, in time etc.)
I absolutely loved that Color grading . Made everything so much more real yet magical and movies felt like home idk. Now all the shows are soooo like artificial like cartoons. I completely agree w u it’s hard to watch

I hope shows like this can turn the narrative away from the impending dread of The Future Of Survival / The Future Of War and focus our collective imaginations to The Future Of Progress. Not that we turn ignorant to our very serious challenges in the real world that we need to resolve, but that we know there is a better future for us if we can strive to achieve it.
Yeah right or this will happen like that movie Elysium where rich live in space with really good facilities. While the poor live on earth with bad air and employe those Poor's to work for their company give them minimum wage but earn profit themselves.
@@Shamballaa Living in space will amazing for the adventurers and pioneers that manage to go discover and colonize another equivalent planet but living in space itself will never be the luxury that Earth provides, even if we continue to make it less habitable for us.

@@lawtraf8008 I agree future will have dire challenges and we have long crossed the precipice point before which much disaster could have been avoided, but we have not crossed the precipice of assured mass extinction or having no hope for better future. Hard lessons and struggles are ahead, but without optimism and innovation, it would be futile to struggle to survive.
The future never turns out the way people think. Look at the first Blade Runner film (this was the vision of what 2019 would look like) Flying cars everywhere but not even a hint of something like the internet.

If you are reading this then think about this,
Of all the technology advancement and feats we have achieved can we really say our generation is having absolutely beautiful and amazing experiences of life that we could have had on this planet. If let say someone from 150 years ago saw this it could have looked as some fancy world but we know the reality with famines and wars around the globe.
I don't know whether future will be fantastic or not but we can definitely make this time we have now really ecstatic
Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable. In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it. - Deus Ex Human Revolution
The Dating episode was pretty interesting. How an AI could change the course of your day to magically sit you next to your date. Tweaking your body chemistry along the way so you're in the perfect mood.
