Truth! So many new apartment complexes are being built around here but barely a soul can afford to rent even a studio apartment beginning at $1400 every month. It is just not doable with the average income of the people already here. These apartments also do NOT include utilities. Your water bill is figured by dividing the water use by the total consumed by the number of occupants in the building, not yours specifically. That, plus your vehicle, insurance to insure every single thing including, your necessities, and food. There are lots of retired people, whose money they saved during their working years is nowhere enough to get by today. Most peoples' savings are severely decimated by things beyond their control, like recessions, inflation, and politics. No one seems to care.

Most of the bums enjoy their lifstyle and their own choices got them there. Most of them are bums who make it hard for people/city to help the actual homesless who want to change their situations. Lots of people have been homeless at one point in their life, living in cars and such and changed their life around but their story is just not mainstream.
The bums hurt the homeless more than the rich. The rich can get their charity money back so they dont even mind spendin to help

Maybe this why the federation in star trek outlawed most money,so society worked to grow not be rich, except for the ferengi, and they loved our earth cities like Las Vegas, and they felt it was their version of heaven, but as later versions of star trek ferengi society was as heavenly as they showed our descendants, with 24 times the wealth of the USA,ferengi could have solved alot of their, and our problems without batting a eyelash, but most ferengi in star trek seemed even greedier than some of us humans, even greedy con man trump would be seriously jealous, since in one episode of ds9 a ferengi bragged he had 500 + billion dollars with all business he had all over the galaxy, and quark almost sold his bar on ds9 to be part of the greedy ferengi's empire, then quark found out the rich ferengi was a fraud, and decided to stay on ds9,cause at least quark had a honest job, learned Armin shimmeran was a bar tender before he got cast in star trek, and he felt he had come home when he was cast as the bartender in ds9,even Rene aubejonis said Armin taught him how to mix drinks for his birthday party, when Avery, and the others came over, and when Avery tasted the drink he was impressed, learned this from a behind the scenes of ds9 especially after it got popular, and now I think Armin is author now,not just a actor, and is well set financially.

Meanwhile no ultra rich want to share their space with anyone, and need quarters for the servants, maintenance staff etc that these dreams never consider.
Look at any of these plans and ask one question: what would be the cost per unit, and what demographic could pay that amount. Yeah, paradise or prisons for the ultra rich, like the ultimate Gated Community of the future. If they did build it, the rich would buy units as investment properties but never actually live there.

People do not get drunk people do not use drugs. Schools are clean children play. Women all ware the same color. It is standard uniform. It is dress. Men likewise but their colors are different. People eat good food But it is healthy. Nobody goes hungry. Everybody has a reason and a purpose. People do not get abused There is no such thing within the cities. Everyone is good. People will live outside the walls they say that they choose freedom and that the people within the walls have given up their freedom and exchange for better life. They claim they will never give up their freedom which is why they do not live within the City. The city would not accept them anyway unless they won the lottery. They suffer outside the walls. They are also very dangerous. They would hurt you for just a morsel of food

Some amazing design ideas here - aesthetic living spaces are certainly good for the soul. However, in so far as many of these buildings will accommodate insurance companies, banks, mega business offices and other soul destroying boxes for people to exist in and be depleted by, they are sadly lacking in vision and appreciation of what it means to be human. We need to move into a future where intelligence, creativity, respect for all living beings and compassion underpin all aspects of life, culture and society. i think new cities could revitalize much of the world, but most of these are billionaire projects who honestly are in it for the money and arent really connected with the communities they are building for and have little sense of practicality and still seem to fall short on a lot efficiency potential. all their focus is trendy artsy design, colors and aesthetic rather then anything actually meaningful. the city of the future is out there already. humanity has had the potential to make something great for decades already but we're still coming up way short and in fact these cities might be more like prisons in the end..

The one that I liked the most was the Maldives Floating City. It's that rainbow-ish looking one. The narrator said that there's supposed to be carol growing underneath it for fish. But like probably all of them, they will for certain cost a few dozen of your most shiniest of pennies. And somebody else brought up a good point that "resources are being torn out of the planet". We should be recycling, and not taking so many things from Earth. Without Earth, everything could die... 'Cept for those little Water Bear things, even sturdier than a cockroach.

I believe "The Line" to be the most worthwhile of those projects, depending on where it gets build and which functions it combines. Because not only does such structure allow very high energy and water use efficiency, but can also combine needed functions such as a transport system in between cities, highway, water processing and delivery, (internet) data cables, vertical plantation, massive solar and wind energy generation and an oil pipeline. Also, most materials such as stone and quarzt already are present aplenty and therefore don't even need transporting, so creating bricks, bitumen and glas would be cost effective - even 3D printing walls and buildings out of desert sludge could be considered.
The biggest problem would be the question as to whom is to live there, and what businesses might make themselves a home if "production facilities" would likely prove a challenge since those require space and materials - can't be a "service provider" only city, can it ? The project also seems a bit immature since it probably needs e.g. special facility areas, entry ways and pass-through tunnels, and solutions against weather or simply natural conditions such as moving dunes and sandstorms.
