      Hi! That is a great question as it would be easier but unfortunately you can not use water because it makes the gold dust all clumpy. You actually want to avoid using anything with water. You may hear some people suggest using lemon juice but I personally do not suggest it because it contains water. Welcome to the world of edible decorating! You should go to my channel and check out my videos as I always keep beginners in mind when making tutorials. Let me know if you have any questions at all and I will be happy to help!

    I’d like to get tips regarding the size and shape of what brushes to use

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  2 года назад +1

      For painting gold I like to use the biggest brush in the Wilton 5 piece decorating brush set because it’s wide and flat so it covers evenly and quickly; for hard to reach places just use your judgment on which brush to use. Another brush I use a lot in this set is the angled brush for splattering edible paint for example when making stars for a galaxy cake. To see how I “splatter” paint check out my fondant mushroom tutorial ruclips.net/video/qki5STjoq1A/видео.html Another brush set that I use a lot is the Wilton 2 piece dusting brush set. I use the big brush that looks like a blush brush for applying gold leaf. If you’d like to see me do this check out my tutorial ruclips.net/video/kUAfVksf-C8/видео.html I use the smaller brush that looks like an eyeshadow brush for dusting Wilton color dust on fondant flowers among other things for more realism. I have a tutorial coming out that shows this next week; I will add the link here soon. I will have to do a video tutorial on brushes and how to use them one of these days but I hope this helps until then. Thank you for the idea! I think that would be a useful tutorial! When I post it I will be sure to let you know. 👍😊

      I have another way you can accomplish this. You write with melted candy melts and paint it after it hardens. Here is a video I made on how to do it ruclips.net/video/wwxLVyKQGzY/видео.html

      Hi! Vodka or Everclear is even better. If you can not use alcohol you can use vegetable oil but that never completely dries.

    How long do I have to wait for the chocolate to dry before painting it?

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  3 года назад +3

      As soon as the chocolate hardens you can paint it. For a starfish like the one in this video it should only take about 10 minutes in the refrigerator for the chocolate to harden. You can paint it as soon as you take it out of the mold. Keep in mind the thicker your mold the longer it will take the chocolate to set. 👍😊 Does that answer your question?

    Is it possible to make a gold butter icing?

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  Год назад

      That is an interesting thought. My guess is the butter and other ingredients in the icing will mute the gold dust because it is not transparent but I could be wrong. I'll have to try it sometime and see what happens. I do believe you can chill or freeze butter icing and paint it when it is hard which would give the same effect. It's mixing the gold dust with opaque ingredients I think is what would mute the gold. Does that answer your question?

    Can you tell me which gold paint you are using?

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  Год назад

      The edible gold paint I am using is Wilton Metallic Cake Paint Set. Since making this video I have found a better edible gold paint option. Mix Bakell super gold luster dust with vodka (or vegetable oil if you can not use alcohol) to make the paint. Even better is TMP suger gold luster dust mixed with vodka. This is considered non-toxic though so it's not considered food but it is not toxic if ingested kind of like kids paint. Hope that helps!

    Heard you can use clear vanilla extract... Have you used that before?

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  2 года назад +1

      Clear vanilla extract has a lot less alcohol than lemon extract so it does not work with the nontoxic gold that I used in this video (TMP brand). However, it does work with Bakell super gold luster dust which is edible and fda approved and is also extremely shiny. I hadn’t known about it yet when I made this video so I added an update in the video description. If you want to check out how this gold dust looks here’s a link to my video showcasing it ruclips.net/video/ce58m1M9KJM/видео.html 👍😃 Just keep in mind that clear vanilla extract will take a lot longer to dry because there’s less alcohol in it; you can speed up this process by using a new, clean blow dryer.

    I tried autumn gold lustre dust from sugarcraft but its nott at all goodd.. there is no shine , it doesnt even look golden its literally brown 😩😭

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  3 года назад +2

      I am so sorry that happened to you, how frustrating! If you don’t mind nontoxic cake paint TMP super gold dust is the BEST! It is super shiny and looks like real gold! If you want something that is fda approved edible then I found Wilton metallic cake paint set to be the best edible gold paint. (I do one coat of gold then a 2nd coat of copper to lighten it up a little, both colors included in the set.) TMP is shinier than the Wilton so if you are okay with nontoxic then I would definitely use the TMP super gold dust! Another option is 24 karat edible gold leaf. It is not a paint so it will have a little bit of a crinkled look but it is edible and looks like real gold because it actually is real gold. 😊 Check out my video on how to apply gold leaf ruclips.net/video/kUAfVksf-C8/видео.html

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  3 года назад +3

      Hi! Yes, you can mix vegetable oil with gold dust to make paint for painting fondant decorations. This is a great option if you want to use something without any alcohol or if vegetable oil is all you have on hand. It paints on really well but just know that it never completely dries (which usually is not a problem but just wanted you to know).👍😊

    How to make it dry faster in winter ?

    • @tastebakery
      @tastebakery  2 года назад +1

      If you are talking about the gold paint when mixed with alcohol or lemon extract it dries really fast in all seasons and when mixed with vegetable oil it never completely dries. If you are talking about the fondant you can add some tylose powder to your fondant to get it to dry faster. 👍😃

    • @tastebakery

      When using vanilla extract a mixture of heat and air will help your gold paint dry faster. A new, clean blow dryer on high heat for example will dry your gold paint very fast. 👍😃
