- Aston Villa 18 yr-old Omari Kellyman is close to joining Chelsea for £19 million, according to David Ornstein.
Villa have also sold Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for a reported £9 million, while Lewis Dobbin joins from the Toffees for a similar fee.
Here's our reaction to that... we're quite frustrated with how PSR encourages youth player sales.

Hi Frankie, really appreciated your comments about PSR and 'Hollywood' signings. You weren't being overly negative you, were just saying what we were all thinking. As you said thank god we got the appointment of Emery right if we hadn't we could have been having a real fire sale and possibly be a Championship team right now. Keep going with the show and UTV!
We got it badly wrong for a period and are now having to deal with it. But we're doing so from a position of strength at least. It could have been a lot worse.

One thing I can't get my head around is how does the valuation work when considering players in swap deals?, i.e could we tickle Juve in the right areas and get them to value the player higher than he's actually worth, subsequently helping our PSR offset?
Kellyman huge potential, but with diaby, bailey, illing jr, he'd struggle for game time, so £19m, is tremendous, pure profit, stuff psr.

He has excellent potential but we’d be daft to turn down that kind of money for him, particularly given the PSR situation.

Agree about Kellyman - he's looked a fantastic prospect. This whole money-laundering nonsense is ridiculous. I think I used to think some financial controls would be good, based on keeping the league competitive, but am beginning to change my mind. PS I think you misunderstood "anchoring". It is 70% of your turnover (less the permissible expenses) plus anchoring. If it were simply anchoring, that'd allow Villa to spend way above our turnover, to allow us to grow in the way Chelsea and Man City previously did. So, 5 times the lowest club's broadcasting income might be £515m turnover, but if our turnover is £210m, say, then we can only spend 70% or £145m (more or less).

Think I understand what anchoring is about. It’s intriguing that it is seen as something that will benefit clubs like Villa.
Hopefully we can increase the revenues enough to keep competing (although, of course, that likely hits fans in the pocket even further). It’s a very difficult debate, isn’t it. I have various thoughts on PSR & struggle to think of the best solution. UTV!

I do get the practical reasons why Kellyman has been sold to Chelsea but I am sad about it. I just felt that he has this natural talent, a spark about him and sadly right player, wrong time.
And I agree about Duran, gutted about him going too as I enjoy how he plays and the edge he has about him. BUT we will see if he lowers his salary expectations if thats the only sticking point.
I can't lie, if he has to go somewhere Chelsea wld be the most entertaining to observe from a distance 🍿

£19m for Kellyman just feels too good to turn down. I do feel sad about it. But id have probably guessed £5-7m if you'd asked me last week as he's barely played any first team football anywhere.
I'm sorry that you had to sell Douglas Luiz and such good young players for financial reasons. I hope you can build a strong team. I really like Maatsen.

Ah man, gutted to be losing Kellyman. Cannot stand Dhuran’s attitude. Was really hoping he’d be the one to go. PSR is stifling the life out of the premier league. We should be able to celebrate our home grown players. My concern with the revised luis, iling jr, Barrenchea deal is that barrenchea’s value according to Transfermarkt is 7.5 m€, which is significantly less than Weston mckennie. We are making a bit loss here in current structure with the Luiz deal. They’ve got to offer more cash otherwise it doesn’t make sense for PSR. The book value of the Luiz deal as it stands sits at just under 50 million euros. Which is no where near enough for a player of his quality. Hopefully they can restructure the deal and get a decent return.
Good to hear from you, Ciaran. I’m intrigued to see what the final book value for the Luiz deal with be. I have a feeling it’ll be closer to £55 million. Probably going to have to wait and see.
Also gutted to lose Kellyman. PSR rules certainly need evolution as it can’t be a good thing to keep selling academy products. UTV
