Exactly what I was going to check next week -- 👋🏽Hybrid shooter here ...got my GH7 these days, now my GH5II is no more the A-cam. Thanks a whole bunch 😅👍🏽
Thank you for this video tutorial, I'm new photographer enthusiast, and recently I acquired the Lumix GH7, I was really confuse before this video (too many options), you deserve My Like and my subscription.
Hi Shane. Another great video! I shoot a lot of both video and photos, and a useful setting I learned quite recently is "CreativeVideo Combined Set" under the cogwheel settings, bottom of the 2nd page. If you set Picture Profile to the video icon, you can separate your photo and video picture profiles. Why would someone want to do this? For photos, I usually like to use the Standard profile for natural looking colors. But when I'm shooting video, I almost always want to shoot in V-log for the flexibility it gives in editing. Before using the CreativeVideo Combined Set, I would always need to switch picture profiles when I switched between photo and video modes (unless I set it to a Custom mode). Seems like the CreativeVideo Combined Set option doesn't get a lot of attention, so hope this might be useful to others.
I have Zebras set up with all my Panasonic cameras. As I shoot in Log I have the zebras at two settings. 80% for almost everything gun and run 50% for filming head shots, if I ever get round to them. Just like you, I have the Waveform assigned to a custom button. However, I have it set up on a button at the front of the camera, next to the lens but it’s horses for coarses. The waveform and zebras are a must, for me.
Shutter angle is fantastic BUT you don't want to have it on all the time if you're shooting indoors, as the wrong shutter will cause bands on your video when there's a mismatch between shutter and lights/mains frequency. Indoors, you should have it set to 1/50 or 1/60 (whatever your mains/power frequency is). Outdoors, absolutely 180 degrees for the best look.
If you're shooting in the right system region (Pal or NTSC) and not using frame rates higher than the frequency output of the light the 180 degress in shutter angle will work. You will see flicker if you choose to shoot 59.96 in a pal region. Or if you shoot 100p and your light output is not constant.
@@PhotoVideoTechOz It isn't just about flicker; if there is a mismatch you will see horizontal luminance "bars" that slowly roll. For example, I shoot 24p in an NTSC region. If I have the shutter at anything other than 1/60 (AC power frequency is 60Hz here), tripod footage isn't usable. (30p at 1/30 or 1/60 also works, but I usually don't shoot 30p.) The real solution to any situation is "understand the ISO, aperture, and shutter triangle" as it pertains to video. I think Panasonic's decision to make shutter (rather than angle) the default is appropriate, since that's what most people expect from a camera when they are first starting out.
@@andersistbesser Choosing to control the exposure time by shutter angle doesn't cause over exposed image you choosing to opt for 180deg for motion cadence does. Just because you use shutter angle doesn't mean it has to be locked to 180.
@@JimLeonard Do you mean 24p (23.976) or do you mean true 24p = 24hz. Big Difference. If you set your camera to 23.976 in ntsc region and shoot 180deg you will not have banding.
First thing I do is increase the number of custom settings on C3 (on the G9-II) or C4 (on the GH6/7) to 10. It's strange this isn't default. I also set custom mode only reload to it's original settings if I change to a different custom mode but not when the camera is shut off. When I use a video custom mode, I often do changes for the exposure and AF settings and then I don't want the camera to reset the custom mode when I turn it off for a while. Also, if a function like AE-lock is assigned to a button it can't be assigned to something else by pressing it longer because AE-lock is a function that needs the button to be pressed as long as you want to lock AE. So in this case, you have to go to the menu.
Hi Shane. Thank you for this great lumix content. Keep up the great work! I just wanted your opinion on something. I am an owner of a gh5 and I am using a metabones speedbooster (Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds T Speed Booster XL 0.64x) and all of my 3 lenses are Ef. I am considering upgrading to a S5iix and not a gh7 which a more reasoned choice I guess. I have seen footage from both cameras and I can say that I like the image quality of S5iix a bit more. However that means that I have to find another adapter to use my Ef lenses (probably the sigma mc-21). What do you think about this? Is it worth or should I stick to the gh series? I saw that with this adapter the auto focus system works pretty well too compared to the gh7 and the metabones speedbooster. I am mentioning that because having this auto focus system working properly is a really a major factor for me to consider for my next camera and also to utilize my Ef lenses at the same time.
Thanks for the heads up. I think it really depends on the shooting scenario. I turn off the picture in picture zoom, I know a lot of people leave that on. :)
Hi Sir, I reviewed the AF introduction and noticed it mentions that we can set Contrast AF to Mode 2 and keep it always on. From my understanding, the GH7 has PDAF. Is it possible to manually toggle the PDAF on or off?
I’m thinking of picking up a G9 ii at my local store today. All because of you. I notice my turn around time of clips with my Sony work flow is way to long. Hi ... question : Why does my shutter button start recording ?? Did i maybe change a setting by mistake ?? Or is it like that out of the box ? How can i disable that and only use the dedicated RED buttons for recording ? ?
All mirrorless cameras are set up like that straight out of the box. I can't recall where the option is to disable that off the top of my head, but there should be a shutter button option in the menu. If I can find it, I'll let you know.
I am wondering if the gh7 had a low pass filter on sensor for anti aliasing. Love the no crop. 4k60. How do you find the color science skin tones compared to s5iix. I feel gh6 was a dream in that arena. Don’t know if autofocus may have come at a compromise on color science. Perhaps what’s why Lumox put off autofocus for the longest time for this reason. Just a speculation. And wanted to hear your take or opinion. Thanks
The colour science is great on this camera. It's maybe nice quite as nice as the GH6, but it's close. I shot the last video on the GH7 using my Natural+ picture profile that I made - ruclips.net/video/w60poaiM6pw/видео.htmlsi=ONnAG47MPNfQy1pb I think the GH6 has slightly more mids saturation in comparable picture profiles but otherwise the Real-Time LUT, VLOG etc all are great.
Oh man, THANK YOU for this video... For some reason, IS Boost is grayed out for me... I use an Olympus lens 12-100 f4 ... Also I only have the icon with the hand inbetween (( )) when the E-Stabilization is OFF... When set to Standard the icon is a hand between (( )), but inside a white rectangle, When set to high, its the same icon but with a small H in the right left corner... And even more weird... if I turn the Lens Stabilisation off on the lens; then Icon turns to a red hannd, and I can't access any of the E-Stabilization options... Any idea?
I'll get back to you on this. I don't have any Olympus lenses but I have some manual focus ones from third party brands. Let me see if it works with those. Gimme a few mins
I just tested it with a Meike Manual Focus lens. I have no issues turning both IS Boost on and off with E-Stab on or off. Red Hand usually means something is off all together?
I bought this camera but i still cant over they removed 4k open gate.. i used to shoot 4k50 open gate exclusively with my gh5 and now i cant do it any longer. 5.8 k is the only open gate option so i no longer have slomo.. sometimes i wonder what this lumix guys thinking. Now we have a 4.4 k pixel by pixel mode. This means it crops in by a lot and uses only a small part of the sensor. Probably smaller than a phone sensor. Because it crops in so much your wide angle lenses are no more wide angle, you get less bokee, more noise, worse low light, reduced image quality I like the camera a lot but i will sell it if they dont fix this via firmware. To me as an open gate Shooter gh7 was not much more than an expensive downgrade as i can do less now than with my gh5.
It's 5.8 because of the higher resolution sensor. Maybe the open gate 4k mode was too downsampled or something, I am not sure. Calling the GH7 a downgrade for one feature is not true when there's about 50 updates on the new generation of cameras that take it to new levels, but I get it. :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy it meanys pixel by pixel which means it crops in at whatever pixel are needed for 4.4k this is why wide angles are not wide angle in this mode anymore. ists not because of the higher resolutionion i assume . gh5 had a 5k 10 bit open gate mode already and there still was a 4k50 open gate downsampled.it was real open gate. i shoot 4k50 in opengate only . i dont use 16.9 or 17 by nine because it is not good for my type of work and i need the extra pixels in height. i was hoping gh7 would have 5.8k50 open gate but i could live with 4k , removing this feature my gh5 already had is beond my understanding. so to me gh7 is not only a downgrade , i cant even do what i did with my gh5 as i have no slomo in open gate which is essential for my work. open gate 4.3 is the only feature that makes mft really outstanding. i would not have bought if i knew they crippled the camerea for open gate shooters like me.
