I have struggled for the most part of my 31 years on this earth with acne. I was at the end of my rope trying everything I could find to sort my skin out and NOTHING worked. I've cried, felt cursed and believed that it was NEVER going to get better and I found your videos 2 months ago. I have switched my skin care routine and use a few simple products (not all are available in Australia) from your recommendations and I tells ya! I am LOVING it. I am super proud to say that in the last 16ish years, I have NEVER left the house without full face of makeup to cover my skin and acne and today that ended!! My skin is glowing , clear and so damn pretty! I went out, had the best time and I feel better than ever! I can't wait to see how my skin changes in 6 months or in 1 year by following your advice. Your videos have helped me in many MANY ways and from the bottom of my heart from all the way over in Australia, I cannot thank you enough!
@@ladycuomo Apologies Alex, I only just saw this! For a face wash I use the Simple Gel Wash and purchased The Ordinary Niacinamide 10%+Zinc 1%, the Lactic Acid 10%+HA and once a week I use the Salicylic Acid 2% Masque. I am yet to find a moisturiser to add to this without buying online as I will always forget to re-order when I need to, lol.
Joanne Krestensen, hi hi! I recommend Cerave’s moisturiser or first aid beauty’s moisturiser. if not, u can look at more vids to find what suits your skin! recently, i have been using lanolin cream for my face since it is thick and it works really well! before the lanolin cream, i used the first aid beauty and it works wonders to dry skin. just use what works for your skin! hope this helped ^^
Quality consumer skin care products requires a lab and a team of chemists. There are literally hundreds of great products already available. He’s just a RUclips kid - makes more sense to just recommend existing products. That’s why all celebrity endorsed beauty products are garbage.
i was talking with my mom about how i'm going to buy the ordinary chemical exfoliator and a suncream and she literally said that it's going to ruin my skin. she started saying how chemical are bad for your skin and told me to use coffee grounds as an exfoliator. i love my mom but she literally looks older than she is because of wrinkles:')
I’ve legit watched like 3 videos and I trust this human with my skin. If he told me that lighting your skin on fire once a week was good for It I’d agree because he always gives research and scientific background when he gives tips and information about skin
I'm pretty sure the way I found you was your video on the ordinary peel. Then I watched this one and found out about how scrubs are bad and immediately my st. Ives blackhead scrub turned into foot scrub, my skin care routine started to grow, and I learned from you everyday, I'd watch at least one video. Now, I know the bumps on my face are milia, not moles like I thought were growing. They've started coming out on their own with very little help (not popping but I did have to help my "pearl" get out of one spot.) My skin has changed so much for the better, and you've were my first skin care youtuber I found, besides dr. Pimple popper, that's how we all start off, though. So thank you, Hyram. You are a skin care guru.
@@areyoureadyforthis oh no! you didn't do anything wrong, i was just replying to the joke the first person made about the lemon juice since it's something bella thorne uses on her skin. your english is very good by the way, i'm bilingual too so i know how hard it can be to learn a second language😅
Dear Mr. Hyrum: Terrific video! Just to add an additional bit of info for everyone: the chemical exfoliates (BHA & AHA) need to be in the correct ph range, i.e. 3.2 to 4.0. Anything greater than 4.0 won’t exfoliate. Most good quality formulas are within that range; if you aren’t sure you can contact the company and ask. I am very happy to find your channel and applaud your efforts to educate folks about the beauty industry. You are doing a terrific job. I have a few subjects I would love to see you cover, if you are interested. If not, no problem. I’ll still watch your channel with hardly a bitterness ;-)
no its me: the better cleansers fall between 4.5 and 7. I don’t know the ph of the product you mention, however, you can check their website and see if it has that info. In some cases the company may not tell you, stating that it is part of their “trade secret” of some kind. That is just nonsense, and if the company does state something along that line I would look for another cleanser. There’s a lot of good stuff out there.
Hyram Thanks so much! You are doing a great service; your research-based advice cuts through all the junk-y noise that is rife in the You-Tube beauty/self care world (not to mention twitter, instagram, etc.). Truly a breath of fresh are. A big, warm kiss on the cheek(s)-you can choose which cheeks receive the, uh, ummm...yeah (insert nervous giggle here).
This is going to sound really bad but when I was a teenager I used a lot of physical exfoliants without sunscreen and scrub the living crap out of it so my face feeling super squeaky and shiny. So 20 years later I have large pores that is impossible to get rid of. Thank u for this video and educating everyone about exfoliating.
Before watching Hyram I was using TJ Maxx whatever cheap cleanser and moisturizers I could find (Clean & Clear included) I’d use sheet masks like half the week, SUPER ABRASIVE EXFOLIATORS because I was told they’d clear up dark spots, I used spf like once every three weeks and I couldn’t figure out why my acne was getting so bad. Jesus I’m just now realizing how ass my routine was. Now I’m on Curology, I use Cetaphil, Cerave, the Ordinary and sunscreen EVERY MORNING. My skin is already doing so much better thanks to you !!!! Thank you !!!

AlumniArmy how do you follow up other products after using the peeling solution? are you supposed to leave your skin alone after using the solution or can you follow it up with niacinamide or moisturizer (just any products in general)
Turtle Mayhem To follow up, definitely apply a moisturizer and sunscreen because it does sensitize your skin to the sun and can be extremely harmful without any sunscreen on. it is recommended not to use it with Vitamin C or retinol, and give it a day to apply niacinamide to not interfere with process of the peeling solution! Hope that helps a little.
Threw away my only physical exfoliant! It was at least 2yrs old, so no tears here. Thanks for the tips! Also a good tip to always have a clean face towel, buy a ton of those tiny body rags & keep them in your bathroom storage. High quality ones are the softest! I use a new one every day to dry my face 🙃😉

Sometimes physical exfoliation is kind of necessary for my face, particularly the extra-greasy t-zone and chin. But I use a clean terry cloth rag for exfoliation, gently rubbed in circles, or a fine clay mask (which I count as exfoliation because when you wash it off it has a little mechanical action against the skin).
Love you so much. I work at Sephora as a color artist and they have been putting me in skin care lately and I’ve been binging you and James Welsh!!! You are so knowledgeable and I’ve sold a lot of YTTP and shouting you out!!! Much love 💕
Chemical is my favorite way to exfoliate. Agree, love the Ordinary AHA/BHA once a week... but when I first used it, I only left it on my face for 6 min, then slowly worked my way to 10min. Cheer!
This was SO incredibly helpful. I’ve been trying to get into skincare but everything is so confusing and it’s hard to find videos explaining what all these products are and how to use them. This was so informative and helpful!
Here are my notes; I'd thought I'd share if anyones interested :) Exfoliaters- Define- helps remove dead skins cells from out skin Concerns - acne, dark spots, aging, and scarring Other products will absorb better and work better WEAR SUNSCREEN after exfoliating or do at night Physical exfoliation - not preferred bc it may be too abrasive, damaging long-term use physical once a week at most VERY gently only 15-30 seconds per area Chemical exfoliation - preferred bc they’re gentle and steady but they may be too intensive Gentlest to most intensive Salicylic Acid (great for acne and pores) Lactic Acid Glycolic Acid - beware of percentages Multiacid - combination of all Also exfoliant mask (TO- AHA 30% Peeling Solution) Beware of sensitivity, burning, rednes, irritation, thinness Good if skin is looking good, healthy, glowly, skin problems are disappearing Start Slow - Exfoliate starting once a week Patch Test: use product on arm to see if there is a negative reaction for 24 hrs.
Hey, you helped me a lot with that comment. I have big pores on my nose, I wanted to use the Salicylic Acid. Do I still have to put it on my whole face or just on my nose?
I’m so confused on how to exfoliate and what to use :( I don’t know what products I should use. all I do is cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen. my skin still breaks out so I need to try new products but there’s also timers and serums as well as exfoliating and idk what they are and I get so confused when those words pop up.
My mom forced me to use walnut scrubs when I was a kid (I didnt even have acne) and it would always sting my face. Now I have scars on my face thanks to her :)
When I saw that my mom made herself a scrub of coffee grounds and honey I thought okay, a nice scrub for the body. But when I saw her rubbing in the scrub on her face as hard as possible I literally stood there with my mouth open, especially when she rinsed the scrub and her face was burgundy red and she even said that the scrub was so refreshing... I asked her what the fuck was she thinking and stated that she was ruining her skin, then she got angry and said that I know nothing about skincare :))
oopies_ my sister does the same thing she bought me skincare when my skin was perfect and now I struggle with acne since she forced me to start skincare when I didnt need to and Hyram is my only solution she also buys products that barely work for me since she messed up my skin when I was 11(last year) I’m glad to have found Hyram
Doesn't matter if you live there. You still have to use sunscreen. The sun can damage your skin all time of the year. Doesn't matter if it's rainy day or anything else.
R Lemon i mean the sun is still there right? Its just that the clouds are in front of it. its like putting a blanket on top of a dog and saying the dog isn’t there bc the blanket is on top of it
I've been doing physical exfoliation with scrubs and my face feels very smooth and fresh, but only for about 24-48 hours until it goes back to it's normal textured state. I think I might give chemical exfoliation a try!😁💕
When you’ve been using a scrub every day for months as a cleanser with a sonic cleansing device... 😂😅🙈 So very grateful for ya Hyram and the way you use your platform to advance the well-being of others!
Fun story about me: When I was 8 I decided to exfoliate my face with a sea shell, I started with my nose and it started to hurt after like 5 seconds of doing it but I said to myself "pain is beauty so suck it up" ,after I while my nose started to bleed so i didn't do the rest of my face (I didn't wanna tell my mom so I tried the best I could to hide it). Then we when out to eat diner right after I did this to myself, It began to rain and the rain dropped on the wound and I screamed ( it didn't go very well). That whole night I had to deal w/ my mom yelling at me for what I did and honestly she should have won the record for the longest a mother can yell at her child, but I also had to deal w/ having a meatball colored nose at school and people asking what happened and stuff like that.THANK GOD I don't have a scar because of it
I'm sorry I'm laughed. At least you're 8 when wound can heal perfectly without leaving scar and when you're young enough to be dumb 😭😭😭😭 it's better than some teenagers who is too passionate but lack of information when doing something 🤧
Oh my gosh- I feel you!! I’m such a skin care junkie!! I must have a thousand dollars worth of products still waiting to be opened! I force myself to stick to a product for at least 60 days coz I used to switch every week due to the excitement upon receiving a new product in the mail and paid the price! No more fast switching! But jeez!! It’s so hard to let a product sit in the fridge and not use it! By the way I had to get a second full size fridge to hold all my extra skin care goodies! I don’t think I’ll have to buy another skin care product for the rest of my life- I’m covered! Lol! Love you, Hyram! Keep up the good work! I’ve learned so much from you (Cassandra and James)!❤️🙏
@@adagioborntrager4456 thanks, I do know what UV rays are. I had to look up what dark spots are and unless freckles count no one in my family or who i know has dark spots other than those who arnt of Welsh ethnicity. On very sunny days where i would get a sunburn i will wear suncream but thats only for about a month
Em I think you’ve still missing the point. And I don’t say this it of hate or trying to argue but skin damage is real. Those invisible UVA rays mutate your skin at a cellular level. This can cause many different diseases including skin cancer. Your body can learn to regenerate after exposure to UVB rays (sunburns) but UVA can cause lifelong hurt. This is why wearing even just a thin layer of sunscreen on the face at all times is important because UVA can get you anytime even when it’s cloudy.
I started skincare April of last year, and before then, I was so clueless. I remember up until March of last year, I had dry, flaky skin, and was literally scrubbing them off with my bare hands by tugging on my skin!! I cringe so much when I think of how I was treating my skin back then, but thank god I'm more knowledgeable now.
Thank you for all these informations...it helped me to stir away from irritating products for my sensitive skin! Your videos are a great guide in this very confusing skin care universe! You are great! And you also help me to practice my English! I’m French from Montreal! Merci beaucoup!
Robertas Kazbaras you still need to use sunscreen! the uv and uva rays aren’t there only when it’s sunny. maybe your morning news channel warns about the uv index for the day. anyways, they’re radiation and are there even when it’s cloudy. so the best its to use sunscreen at all times :)

Joanne Krestensen may i ask what products you’re using? :)
this is the best skinspo ever. yes, your story is empowering, skinspo is now a word bc of this 😭👊💖💖💖
@@ladycuomo Apologies Alex, I only just saw this!

Dear Mr. Hyrum:
Terrific video!
I’ll still watch your channel with hardly a bitterness ;-)
where does the neutrogena oil free acne wash fall?
no its me: the better cleansers fall between 4.5 and 7.
Thank you so much Scott, I really appreciate you adding to the conversation and your kind words!!
Hyram Thanks so much! You are doing a great service; your research-based advice cuts through all the junk-y noise that is rife in the You-Tube beauty/self care world (not to mention twitter, instagram, etc.). This is going to sound really bad but when I was a teenager I used a lot of physical exfoliants without sunscreen and scrub the living crap out of it so my face feeling super squeaky and shiny. @@turtlemayhem9700 this is what I'm wondering as well
Turtle Mayhem Cassandra Bankson has a good video on this
Turtle Mayhem To follow up, definitely apply a moisturizer and sunscreen because it does sensitize your skin to the sun and can be extremely harmful without any sunscreen on. it is recommended not to use it with Vitamin C or retinol, and give it a day to apply niacinamide to not interfere with process of the peeling solution! Hope that helps a little.

Cheer!
But did you like start with salicylic acid or lactic acid before multiple acids or did you start right away with multiple acids?
I used to never exfoliate and I started to once I discovered your channel , my skin looks so much better now 🥰
This was SO incredibly helpful. I’ve been trying to get into skincare but everything is so confusing and it’s hard to find videos explaining what all these products are and how to use them. This was so informative and helpful!
Here are my notes; I'd thought I'd share if anyones interested :)
Exfoliaters-
Define- helps remove dead skins cells from out skin
Concerns - acne, dark spots, aging, and scarring
Other products will absorb better and work better
WEAR SUNSCREEN after exfoliating or do at night
Physical exfoliation - not preferred bc it may be too abrasive, damaging long-term
use physical once a week at most
VERY gently
only 15-30 seconds per area
Chemical exfoliation - preferred bc they’re gentle and steady but they may be too intensive
Gentlest to most intensive
Salicylic Acid (great for acne and pores)
Lactic Acid
Glycolic Acid - beware of percentages
Multiacid - combination of all
Also exfoliant mask (TO- AHA 30% Peeling Solution)
Beware of sensitivity, burning, rednes, irritation, thinness
Good if skin is looking good, healthy, glowly, skin problems are disappearing
Start Slow - Exfoliate starting once a week
Patch Test: use product on arm to see if there is a negative reaction for 24 hrs.
thank you so much!! I am so disappointed that you can’t copy comments on yt but I’m gonna rewrite it by myself haha❤️

That whole night I had to deal w/ my mom yelling at me for what I did and honestly she should have won the record for the longest a mother can yell at her child, but I also had to deal w/ having a meatball colored nose at school and people asking what happened and stuff like that.THANK GOD I don't have a scar because of it
This....this is gold
I'm sorry I'm laughed. At least you're 8 when wound can heal perfectly without leaving scar and when you're young enough to be dumb 😭😭😭😭 it's better than some teenagers who is too passionate but lack of information when doing something 🤧

There's still uv rays, which cause dark batches and/or redness
@@MoonOffMoon Welsh, Irish, & Scotish folks: *white af skin wanting to look darker to not seem like a vampire* hmm ok
Em UVB rays are what cause tanning/sunburns. UVA rays are the invisible ghost rays that you don’t see until you see skin damage.
