It happens, all my boxed n64 games in my collection came from a buy like this, mostly mint boxes even a near mint console box. Pokemon Stadium 2 mint box was my favourite out the lot though. All for £30.
I can understand this gentleman trying to get the price he had set in his mind, it is hard to let go of your past sometimes no matter the price, some prices make it easier though :)
The song starting at 27:08 is "We're Finally Landing" by Home for anyone else wondering like I did lol. Reminds me of Emplemon. Great videos by the way! I've been bingeing them. I'm a Lego collector but appreciate the thrill of the hunt for any good deal! And this kind hits my childhood!
I like the way you are completely honest with him about your reselling. Most resellers like to evade that they are resellers and some even try to rip off these people. Good work.
Wow!!! Congratulations on Your amazing deal. Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures from Toronto Ontario Canada 😎👍♥️🇺🇸🇨🇦♥️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️💯💯💯💯💯✨️
Once he kept mentioning eBay I knew you were going to have to pay up. At least he was reasonable enough to consider the timing and work involved. Just unfortunate you couldn’t get it a little cheaper esp. considering a lot of the cartridges were missing. That’s where negotiation gets tough, when both parties know the deal but finding that fair middle ground can definitely be challenging. This guy also seemed like he was totally okay with keeping it all had you countered anything less than $4k. While this turned into more of a collection upgrade for you, the reselling component sort of went out the door when you pass that 60% threshold. Ideally 40-50% price-charting seems more ideal when factoring taxes on top of all the other fees. Nothing you don’t already know. Just a tough situation to be in when you’re sitting there for hours calculating value and percentages, all the while maintaining that positive attitude. Childhood collections are always more sentimental to owners as well. Good job keeping your composure and having the patience to deal with all of it.
So you expect him to sell everything to this youtuber for 5 dollars , the guy has bills to play he's not going to give this reselling grifter 5000 worth of games for 10 dollars lmfaooo, he's a reseller looking to rip people off not your friendly uncle.. so he better pay up
I haven't even finished the video and all I can say is Oh..... My...... God!!! What a massive score and you can tell this guy had really good taste, just an epic collection! Congrats on the find team CATRP!
The Pokebank is -$4,000. What a find. Good negotiating. Wasn’t sure if you were going to close the deal. Your right about leaving the sale. They never call back.
Chase, I'm a reseller of (mostly vintage) Balsa Model Airplane Kits and totally understand your approach to 'adding to your collection'. The goal there becomes adding higher quality items to your collection while breaking even on the acquisition costs of what you're buying. In the end, you've recovered your monies spent while at the same time greatly enhancing the value of your personal collection. Good job!!
Something you should mention when negotiating % of eBay on stuff is that they have to pay taxes on it too. A lot of people don’t realize that. It can be a difference maker. A lot of people don’t want to have to fill out separate taxes for eBay and all that so you can get stuff even cheaper sometimes.
Yup, ebay takes their percentage on the sales taxes to so the fee is actually more than 15% and then you get to pay income tax on it... Barely worth it unless it's your job or you sell less than $600 worth a year.
Would have been the craziest find if he only wanted $5 a piece or something. Having to pay 70% of pricecharting definitely made it a tougher decision, basically just like buying someones collection that hit you up from your youtube videos. Still, to go up to a yard sale and have them pull that out must have been exhilarating... up until he told you what he wanted lol
Yep definitely a nice haul but at $4k it’s a hard sell for me. If the seller was at $1k I’d be all over it. And who wouldn’t want to find this for $5 a piece
lmfao so you expect this garage sale gentleman to sell this rich youtube reseller 5000 worth of games for like 50 bucks? he got a family to feed buddy, this reseller is getting 30% off that's already charity enough, he's literally a grifter
Dude, ok. This episode brought a HUGE smile onto my face. I had sooo many flashbacks just seeing all the classic game boxes and magazines. I feel so good right now. Thank you.
Far from ripped off that’s a best case scenario for a seller like him. He’s getting cash money instead of having to claim it like income if he sold on auction and may have not even gotten that much
I loved this episode and appreciated the part Grant played in it; he represents how many of us hold dear to our childhood treasures and even more, treasures he worked hard to obtain. Many were quick to point out that the total price was way too high and that the haul wasn't really that much of a deal due to how pricey it was. Still, things we have to consider are that he wasn't planning to sell these at the moment his family's yard sale took place, the condition of those boxes was insane and his whole childhood was inside those 4 boxes. Chase really insisted on closing the deal at that moment, so the haste of closing the deal at that moment might have also influenced the total price to hike. It is different when someone wants to get rid of their stuff quick and make a buck out of it vs when someone is still not fully ready to let go of something, but gives it a go to see if the deal is good. Either way, this was one of my favorite episodes for sure. Great score Chase!
Man standing there telling the stories behind the games...Chase going through those bins with a smile and full mast just like "uh huh, yea, uh huh, such a good game, uh huh, yep, love it man"....lol, man I know you were excited! hahaha what a find!
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Didn’t think I’d find this comment so I had to comment. Everyone has their own taste. I actually liked that game too.
That red box! The way the guy was digging through all of them quickly without much care made me freak! I would have been flipping out for him digging through so carelessly LOL. Despite him being gracious enough to sell them to you.
I don't blame you for adding these to your collection some of those boxes are immaculate quality seeing chronotrigger, majoras mask, lost vikings, mario rpg, perfect dark, tmnt and zelda/mario 64 those games are my childhood and those SNES boxes for everygame are so nostalgic very great pick up for 4k imho awesome you met him halfway too both going home very happy!
You already know most of that stuff will go for above retail. Like you were saying the scarcity of boxes in that condition makes it few of a kind. 4000 wouldve been alright in my box. Add some quality conditioned games to complete that, and again you're getting above retail. Your margins will be solid
It’s like he was waiting for someone to come through and buy out his collection at less than ebay or price charting. The guy is a talker and knows exactly what he’s doing. Not many would have pulled that off. CATRP will not be stopped. You guys were meant for that long random drive to that yard sale. Priced up but you guys will get the value back from sales and content. Nice job fellas.
This dude was awesome! He's a super unsuspecting video Gamer. He looks like a football or soccer Dad jock. He ended up being super awesome and relatable. A lot of the things He said hit home
You got some incredible stuff but I think right now the seller made out better in the end. Counting fees, shipping, and taxes there's not much room for profit. He got really lucky he got you as a buyer because I can't think of too many people who would buy a lot of games that are mostly box-only for that percentage and I don't think he considered that. Luckily I think you'll end out making out very well in the end because most of these games going into your collection will only increase in value, especially considering condition. Incredible finds!
I really like that you're willing to expand your expertise passed just games. With so many resellers these days it's getting harder and harder to get good deals. Have you ever thought about sending half the crew to another metropolitan area, and double down on sourcing?
@ChaseAfterTheRightPrice I hear you. If I was selling a little more I'd be more active buying all the time. I'm hoping to unload as much as I can this Christmas season. I plan on joining the patreon soon.
Crazy yard sale find! Holy crap! You know my neighbor growing up had all his boxes and it was a collection just like this. I wonder if he still has all those somewhere. Man I would love to still have all my SNES boxes. My mother threw mine away at some point.
I wish I would of keep my snes and n64 boxes as a kid. I had so many of those game’s especially chrono trigger. Least I keep my magic cards and a lot of the game carts. Congrats on upgrading your collection that is the heart of the show and this one showed it.
The way that seller was talking.. he was definitely on the fence. I know that once you got to the negotiation.. you already had alot of time and wages invested. The seller was still reasonable in the end though.

tbh I always wondered why everyone tore up and threw out the boxes and stuff along with scratching up all the games. That includes my friends. I always kept everything as nice as possible because I liked it so I treated it well. Granted at an early enough age it was my mom keeping them nice, I think to her if she paid $40 for a NES game it was going to be well taken care of.
Video idea: Go back to this guy and challenge him to going for the Nintendo Power record (Reward him with a switch for his kids for trying) Seems like a genuine dad who loves games but his kids are a higher priority. Respect.
Pro tip: snes and 64 boxes are designed to be opened from the right side. The left has those catches designed to hold the left flap in place, but the right doesn’t. What an amazing buy and the quality of them looks outstanding too. This would be my dream job of doing what you do!! even on a part time basis once I retire in a couple of years that is what I'm going to do Lord willing
oh no this type of deal no percent off. hopefully people see this message. AINT NO WAY YOULL EVER FIND SOMETHING LIKE THIS. Full price all of it, just know your stuff there is ALWAYS a buyer.
I’ll be the only one commenting on the Woody Woodpecker hat, I’m sure, but if you ever find a hat like that again with letters over the top of the SnapBack, that style is called “Blockhead” and has a dedicated collector base. Worth throwing in as a search term on the ‘Bay.
It hurts my soul to see those boxes being opened from the left side. The left side is designed to stay shut. I really don't think $4k is bad based off what I'm seeing. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that turns out to be a net profit of $4k or more. This is a textbook example of why having a lot of cash on hand is important even if you are just a collector that resells to fund a collection. What a beautiful collection.
What a score! The only thing I struggle with is your profit margin. It's none of my business what you pay for things, as you clearly know your business better than anybody else, but with that said, for me personally, as a small time reseller with no staff to pay, it seems like you're at break even or maybe even a little loss (when factoring wages, taxes, opportunity cost, fees, and all the other little Nickle and dime hidden costs of running a business). I don't know. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I know I need to be doubling my money at minimum all the time! With that said, if I thought I could make $1000 on a $4000 purchase, I might do that...where I probably wouldn't entertain making $10 on a $40 purchase. Is that kind of your thought process on some of these purchases where your profit margin is so tight? Don't get me wrong though. I am GREEN with envy over that score. Just amazing.
Well said! This was a purchase that turned from finding stuff to flip, to trying to collect. After all expenses I’ll be able to break even or better. I’m keeping quite a few games (2nd channel video tomorrow) and I’ll be selling the lesser quality duplicates in my collection which helps a bit
One way to think about it is, that the Charizard profit money could be used for this collection basically (and the stuff not needed in the collection, could be used to go toward the next goal).
I would so much love to do the same thing you do and browse around looking for the little gems. But just the hunt would be so magnificent to do. When i lived in Netherlands i loved to drive around and look for games and movies for my own collection, sometimes few 100 km driving for 1 movie lol. Now in Mexico i cant do it unfortunately . But maybe if we move to US i might start doing it if i am not too old. Love to watch the vids.
Sometimes people who are wanting to buy video game's of other people to relive there childhood can never get them because of resellers getting there first checking on eBay to see what it's worth and asking for a cheap price from people who don't really know what there game's are worth so resellers can boast about how Much money there earn in profits on RUclips videos
Haters will say its fake
We aren't going talk about how we paid everyone in these videos $100k to help us stage a small internet video?
It happens, all my boxed n64 games in my collection came from a buy like this, mostly mint boxes even a near mint console box. Pokemon Stadium 2 mint box was my favourite out the lot though. All for £30.
Lucky I not a hater then lol
We know it's all fake you pay to sit up all the yard sales to buy stuff. Then you never really sale anything it's all for the video. haha

Early 90's was my prime gaming years, astounding condition. I would click thumbs up twice if I could. Mint boxes, amazing time capsule...
If you’re clicking twice, make sure to give it a third click as well ;)
Pro tip: snes and 64 boxes are designed to be opened from the right side. The left has those catches designed to hold the left flap in place, but the right doesn’t. Opening from the right side reduces cardboard stress on, say, a Chrono Trigger box worth several hundred dollars.
Also obviously not doable at a yardsale but I like to slide a butter knife in to open boxes vs thumbing the center. Less wear on the flap.
Awesome pro tip! No idea about the right flap

You also have to remember he is making money on, sponsorships, youtube, etc.
One way to think about it is, that the Charizard profit money could be used for this collection basically (and the stuff not needed in the collection, could be used to go toward the next goal).
content grows the business also
that waa pretty cool talking about hairy tornado
You guys always seem to find the most unexpected stuff at yard sales can't wait to see what other rare stuff you guys find next time
If those are sealed Magic Revised booster and starter boxes behind you, you should be able to trade those easily for a PSA 9 Charizard.
Man in the red top loves a good chat
Man, awesome score! if you'd only taken me up on those manuals you'd have a super Minty Zero manual to put in that box.😂
